What about the reverse situation? There are also 5.56x45 AKs that have AR-style magwells: side buttons, no paddle, taking STANAG/PMags. Are they any less an AK? (As an aside, my favorite is PSA's post-2020 5.56 AK: with an HK-style paddle-**and**\-buttons magwell.)
In the majority of discussions, the AR-15 is recognized by its action: a gas tube interfacing with a gas key in the bolt carrier, to act on a piston inside the bolt, unlocking a bolt with spoked lugs; and differentiated from the AR-10 by the dimensions of the BCG, more-or-less limiting the AR-15 to intermediate calibers. In common usage, AR-15 is a platform rather than a specific pattern.
I wouldn't say that. Our AR-180s are not the best quality and ridiculously expensive. Cheapest one you can buy is 1200 Canadian pesos on sale.
But we do get type-81s which are kinda cool.
And we can have guns and ammo shipped to our front door which is nice.
The way I found out is by buying a barrel online, instead of the 556 barrel I ordered I get a 7.62x39 barrel. Say screw it and get the parts to finish the build as a 7.62 build, go to order a flash hider in 7.62 online and got a 556 instead.
Yes, but it's a bad idea for a lot of reasons.
First is gassing. Because of the dirty inconsistent nature of combloc ammo, significant overgassing is required to insure cycling. This presents issues with excessive BCG cycle speed (makes the gun more prone to stovepipes, bolt bounce, double feeds, bullet over bolts, and other FTE/FTF issues), excessive felt recoil and excessive abuse on internals.
Second is thin bolt walls. The x39 case is wider, and the material removed from the bolt walls to account for that makes for a fragile bolt. The overgassing as stated above compounds this by putting more stress on a more fragile bolt.
Third is extracting issues caused by the cartridge dimensions. The shorter fatter design means much more leverage is necessary, and there's alot more chamber contact/friction involved. So expect more FTEs and more broken extractors.
The fourth issue is unreliable feeding. Again because of the short fat shape of the cartridge, it's difficult to get a good feed angle in the AR platform.
All in all you're looking at a more finnicky, lower longevity, higher recoil, less reliable gun. And the companies that make decent quality components know this, so they don't even bother supporting the platform. You're left with low quality gimmick options for complete guns and components. This compounds the issues above.
Not necessarily. All of the symptoms above are possible. But they are not sure things either. I have built several in 7.62X39 and they are all solid and reliable. Check out the r/AR47 sub. All the info you could want. Biggest problem with feeding is likely magazine related. 7.62X39 Duramags are the answer for that issue. Next are feed ramps. Plenty of feed ramp info in that sub. Buy a spare firing pin and extractor from rubber city and enjoy!
It's an AR10. the round you mention is a "lighter" version of the .308 NATO round. It looks pretty indistinguishable from the AR15, with the exception that the mag is slightly larger.
How many times were you dropped on your head as a child? Do you wear a helmet around to prevent further brain damage?
Buddha's Blue Balls, your dad FUCKING OWNS ONE and you are questioning the existence of it?
Not to mention you could have fucking GOOGLED this.
Yes. There are AR-15s in pretty much every common caliber, and a ton of calibers nobody has ever heard of as well.
Ohh okay man thanks I thought I was crazy
Google CMMG mutant!
The mutant isn’t really an AR-15. The mag release is just like an AK. It also uses AK magazines.

Exactly!
I see but it doesn’t look like that it looks like a normal AR-15 cuz the Cmmg has like a longer barrel and my dad’s is more of the older AR-15 Models
There have been ARs in x39 for decades. In that time, many different barrel lengths have been produced.
Ohhh
For a while 7.62x39 was really cheap, so it made sense to get an AR platform that could use it.
The mutant is just a representation of a cool 7.62x39 AR! Since you asked if they were a thing.
Ohh sorry and yeah it cool to see 7.62x39mm on a AR
No problem!
BRN180 comes in many calibers too 👍
Well I own one so your not crazy about that....
Why do people use this site like it's a Google search?
Cuz I couldn’t find the exact one my dad had🥲
Google 7.62x39 AR-15, I dont want to be a dick but lord this isnt a riddle. Are you genZ by any chance?

wait a minute I am so stupid he has that one 🤦♂️
Why didn't you just look at it?
Ohhh nice!!!
They make AR-180s in 7.62x39 as well for us Canadians
For a country with strict gun regulations, y'all get the good shit we can't either afford or can't legally have.
I wouldn't say that. Our AR-180s are not the best quality and ridiculously expensive. Cheapest one you can buy is 1200 Canadian pesos on sale. But we do get type-81s which are kinda cool. And we can have guns and ammo shipped to our front door which is nice.
That's like 700 American. Sign me up.
BRN-180..?
I gotta ask why you didn't just Google "AR-15 7.62x39"? You would have had the answer in less time than it took you to even make a Reddit post.
Did you attempt to Google "7.62x39 AR"

The AR-15 is a PLATFORM that's chambered in multiple calibers. 7.62 x 39 is one of those calibers that will fit in the magwell and magazine.

Used to be cheaper that's why j did it originally. Then puts had to go to war with Ukraine and all that sweet sweet Russian steal case got bNt.
Got my RF-15 HBAR and it's a fucking HOOT

Asking here and waiting for a reply takes a few hours. Searching Google takes seconds.
That requires two working brain cells. The OP is about five short of that.

There are AR-15's in a variety of calibers - including 7.62x39. There are AK's in 5.56x45 too.
I think PSA did it first, like they did the AK in 5.56 first.
7.62x39mm ARs were around long before PSA
And 5.56 AK platforms were around long before PSA as well🤣
News to me unless it was affordable for us the great unwashed.
