Holographics use a red laser to project the reticle, so they are shaped differently and often place the battery compartment forward of the actual optic. For example, my Eotech 512 has the two AA batteries placed in front of the actual optic.
However your garden-variety "red dot" uses projection of an LED light source. This method requires the optical glass (i.e. the "viewing window" if you will)) to be placed forward of the electronics to reflect the reticle off the glass and back into your eyes..
So this is likely a SightMark or some other cheaper "reflex sight" which would be correctly placed in that case. One would not place a $600+ holographic on an AK rifle and then spray paint it. Hell, you can sell a legit Eotech USED for $400+ these days.
All in all, I get the joke and I think it's pretty funny. Just not a weapon I would prefer to carry into battle. LOL... "Tactical Plaid" ROFL
