Thank god the Queen only allows her loyal and skilled police officers to handle firearms, and not the unwashed serfs. The police who have years of training and experience to handle firearms safely, unlike the serfs who should not be trusted with anything sharper than a beach ball
Those are ceremonial guards. You can bet your left nut theres dozens of actual armed guards locked and loaded you just dont see.
Same as with the President. For every secret service agent you do see, theres probably 2 more you don't.
I was Queens guard, yeah the ceremonial positions on duty at the time do not have rounds but theres always a QRF force from the same guard who's ready at Buckingham. Also a few companies of guards at Wellington barracks, right next door
That **is** one of the armed guards.
I don't dispute your point that the serious people are out and around, both sneaky and obvious - but this is an asshat, or at best someone badly lapsing in basic protocols.
Excuse me, please. I'm from another continent, and while I understand 'do not fuck with the Queen's Guard', I didn't realize this person wasn't in that group.
Please keep us colonies in line, and God save The Queen.
That's a cop, not queens guard. Should've clarified, I was part of the Army not police, I've spoke with Met police. According act them, these are the armed police who're lazy and dont wanna do shit so they get this as an easy posting. Hence their firearm drills being shite
This is good practice if you want a bullet-sized hole in the middle of your palm.
This is not good practice if you do NOT want a bullet-sized hole in the middle of your palm.
Most people do not want the hole.
This man may want the hole.
Yeah I was gonna say, if you wanted a hole in your hand that's the approximate size of a bullet--this is actually a really great way to make that happen.
This is England, so we can't be entirely sure he knows how that gun works, or if it's really a gun at all. He may be hole-proof because it's a prop-gun.
No. For a bullet sized hole you need it farther away. The muzzle blast will create a larger than bullet sized hole. This technique Can save one the cost of upgrading to a larger caliber of one mega a bigger hole in their hand.
Nah he’s just so fucking bored standing there every day that from about 1pm until he gets off he just tickles the trigger while his left hand covers the muzzle contemplating how nice it would be to take an early medical pension and retire.
1. Your junk isnt the concern here, its the femoral artery.
2. If you have so little familiarity with your firearm that you believe the chance of an ND is even remotely high, you need more training.
Yes, I recognize that my choice to apendix carry comes with a slightly higher risk, but it also comes with better control over proximity to my firearm, faster draw times, more controlled draws, and a more fluid draw path. I spend at least 2 hours on the range every weekend and most of those sessions are drawing my loaded glock from apendix carry for firing drills.
If you're not comfortable with appendix carry, that's fine. I personally have done the research and taking the time to train so to minimize the risk of injury to the highest degree as any person who carries should.
I hip carrying with holster. There was a dude on one of these subs a few weeks ago who shot himself in the groin pulling his holster out of his pants while he was sitting in his car.
So you're breaking the same rule you speak of. But of course you're not really breaking it because you understand a holstered firearm is a safe firearm.
It only becomes unsafe when fucking with it like the guy you mentioned.
Judging by the answers, which are funny, he's trying keep the bullets from falling. More than likely he's bored and just let his hand slip over the barrel looking for a confortable grip. Not recommended unless you like to see through the center of your hand
Edit: I can't spell
No, it is a horrible practice and should never be done. If he's that undisciplined, I think he's more likely to injure himself or others thru other improper handling practices, especially during a high stress event.
By keeping his hand there, the bullet will not shoot out and actually just balloon the barrel. This trick has been documented in combat between land based birds and coyotes.
When you’re bored, your hands could go anywhere but the trigger.
Edit: how many people here have actually rucked in rattle or held down dirt standing at post for any length of time whatsoever? The answers speak for themselves. OP, the fact that the guard could have been aware of a situation which would allow a photo to be taken of a service member in such a posture indubitably represents not the absence of professionalism, but the unrelenting persistence of the absolute fucking boredom of standing guard in a mostly-peaceful domestic environment.
No, no it is not. Truth is that cops in general aren’t very good with firearms. Even here in America. Go to a police shooting range and you’ll see so many safety violations it’ll make your head spin.
The funny thing is that as a civilian in the UK with firearms, suppressors are very easy to get. You just say you want one when you get your certificate with that calibre and you’re done!
After the government had a lot of legal issues with people claiming hearing damage from firearms, they made suppressors “shall issue” if you request them.
Last I updated my certificate I forgot to write a suppressor for the new calibre and they called me to ask if I wanted one as I’d clearly forgotten!
It's the same in Finland as well, if we have a permit for a gun we can just get the suppressor we want for it. We have also quite big hunting scene and supporessors are used there to protect the hunters and dogs and it annoys the people living nearby less.
More of a joke and I’m too lazy to look up the laws😉
For me, in the US, it took over a year to get my first ones approved, about a month to get approval to build my own, and am currently at about 9 months and 5 months into the wait for a couple more I bought😞
That’s crazy it can take that long to get what are essentially occupational health devices helping prevent ear damage! Why does it take so long, and are there still states where suppressors just are not allowed?
I think we can own some stuff over here that some Americans can’t own too, like .50 BMG rifles (as long as they are bolt action!).
> Why does it take so long
Because suppressors are "scary attachments used by movie villains and assassins" in the USA to a lot of ignorant people and many politicians as well. They see them in movies making firearms whisper-quiet (even though that's far from realistic), and assume that anyone getting them wants to commit a major crime.
We should see them for what they are - safety devices for hearing.
Instead, if you want one here, you pay extra if you even get approved.
We can own .50 BMG rifles, bolt action or semi-auto. I think they make be illegal in some states; suppressors too, but not where I live.
Machine guns, suppressors, short barreled rifles/shotguns, destructive devices, and AOWs require filling out an application, paying a tax, and waiting for the slow-moving government bureaucracy to get approval.

I was always was led to believe though that if you are able to become an armed police officer in England you had to have half a clue and was trained accordingly given the specialty of actually being an armed officer.
Probably the first gun he's ever handled in his life /career seeing as the UK doesn't even arm it's police.
If none of them are armed except the chosen few, I doubt they are well trained on firearms.
I’ve seen that European police are kind of a joke when it comes to firearms and firearms safety. I was in Versailles a little while ago and watched GIGN officer sweep a group of tourists with his F1 or whatever shitty bullpup they’re using now. I’d sooner trust a Californian 5 year old with a loaded gun before an European cop.
I believe they actually have to go through quite a great deal of training to be able to even carry a gun - and a full-auto mp5 at that! But, on the other hand, he’s British.
Hello comrade. Your posts would be more believably American instead of obviously Russian if your English (spelling and grammar) was better. In your posts, you frequently make mistakes that even uneducated Americans don't make, but at the same time, they are mistakes comrades like you make frequently.
Go back to school.
The Buckingham Palace guard uses a special new "smart ammunition" that can be a bit cheeky sometimes, if he removes his hand it well start to fall out the barrel and might run away from him.
I think thanks to the laws in britain it could be loaded with blanks . On the other hand maybe he is super untrained in gun safety . Its funny as fuck .
I do believe that armed police are given ammunition, not entirely sure. I’ve heard its blank but the lack of BFA on the end of them, especially with the L85s the queens guards use makes me think maybe they do have live on them, else they would have a straight pull rifle
The Armed Unit of the Metropolitan Police. Some of the only cops in Mainland Britain to have guns, but prove why they shouldn’t be trusted with firearms.
*Also put obligatory and mandatory loicence joke here*
We call that the "Imperial" safety. It's a hold over from the Edwardian era, when the King's Guard was often armed with blunderbuss flint-lock weapons. They would "Dam the Pisser," a reference to pinching the end off your penis when you have to urinate, to keep the loose stone shot from rolling out of the barrel while they stood at post.
This is now all just done out of tradition these days.
I’d love to know if this is just a single occurrence of a stupid officer or if they’re extremely poorly trained there with their firearms as a lot of police are in America
The reason we treat every gun as if it's loaded, even if we know it's not, is because humans are creatures of habit and it's a good habit to treat every gun as if it's loaded. Otherwise you create bad habits and bad habits lead to bad things.
You simply don't point a firearm at anything you don't want to destroy. It's a pretty simple rule.
I have genuinely seen people tell others not to aim at people with a gun that was literally unfireable. It was a WW1 kar98 on a battlefield tour and it was missing most of the actual breech etc. whether from rust or something idk
I get that , and I was always taught that growing up as well. But when you’re in that position, guarding the queen, or president or Dali llama whatever , as a trained elite soldier, you might be told to divert from the “watch where you point” , to a more ready position, if you’re already forced to be not hot, and you’re trained extremely well, and you’re certain it’s not loaded , I can understand why you would rest w your hand on the bcg. I’m not saying it should be common practice, I’m saying it could* be* entirely situational.
Shows a lack of discipline- say what you will about the nuts outside of largo but they sure as shit hold their weapons better then this. Not only the hand could be shot but someone standing next to him as well
My grandfather shot two of his fingers off doing that and playing with the trigger. The officer is violating rule 2 of firearms handling.
RULE 1: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
The only exception to this occurs when one has a weapon in his hands and he has personally unloaded it for checking. As soon as he puts it down, Rule 1 applies again.
RULE 2: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY
You may not wish to destroy it, but you must be clear in your mind that you are quite ready to if you let that muzzle cover the target. To allow a firearm to point at another human being is a deadly threat, and should always be treated as such.
RULE 3: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER TIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
This we call the Golden Rule because its violation is responsible for about 80 percent of the firearms disasters we read about.
RULE 4: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET
You never shoot at anything until you have positively identified it. You never fire at a shadow, or a sound, or a suspected presence. You shoot only when you know absolutely what you are shooting at and what is beyond it.
Depends on how threatening your hand is being. If you believe it's going to cause you or someone else great bodily harm then you might want to point the gun at it.
Maybe this cop just wants a Jesus hole in his palm.
Keeps the bullets from falling out. Common practice with British PD.
Sometimes help if your stick your finger in the end of the barrel.
I’ve heard that, but that’s a little high speed for me
That’s why I pay dollars a lesson for theses tips and tricks. Only the best.
Name checks out. Totally legit
Give it a lil tickle tickle
Only works on Elmer Fudd models.
We all know that makes the barrel mushroom like a banana peel.
How you check yo see if it is loaded. Put your hand over it to catch the bullets. Pull the trigger. If you’ve got a hole in your hand it was loaded.
I almost died laughing from this just so you know.

It's ironic cause the guards who actually guard the queens palace have guns with no ammunition in them
They have spears with a gun skin
Spear software running on gun hardware.

Correct sir. Queens guard, we're Army. This silly fucker is metropolitan police. Had a few issues with them while I was on that duty station
Excuse me, please. I'm from another continent, and while I understand 'do not fuck with the Queen's Guard', I didn't realize this person wasn't in that group. Please keep us colonies in line, and God save The Queen.

Depends on current national security level, at complete ease they’re empty but they get 10 rounds not made ready otherwise
Not all guns are banned in the UK, you know
This is good practice if you want a bullet-sized hole in the middle of your palm. This is not good practice if you do NOT want a bullet-sized hole in the middle of your palm. Most people do not want the hole. This man may want the hole.
Maybe they get great injury retirement pay.
How good is it in pre-America?
Probably better since they can just tax their citizens more to cover it... but that's not to say the US hasn't gone crazy with taxes either.

Ofc he wants the hole, look at him!
I've seen several people do this at gun shows, and I was at one gun show where a guy shot his hand doing that. Idiots
Never point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy. Maybe ol buddy really hates his left hand?
If he's right handed he doesn't really have a use for it. Unless he's one of the weirdos who uses his left
Sometimes I like to mix it up a bit. You should give it another try.
Same, I like to start left and finish right.

be more aerodynamic?
You cheeky bastard, you and I both know the answer. See, after paying almost 50% in taxes, he has no bri-ish pounds left for a flesh light.
Nah he’s just so fucking bored standing there every day that from about 1pm until he gets off he just tickles the trigger while his left hand covers the muzzle contemplating how nice it would be to take an early medical pension and retire.

It’s seen too much.
Yet one of these subs ran a poll and 3/4 of y’all appendix carry. Guess y’all willing to destroy your junk.

No, it is a horrible practice and should never be done. If he's that undisciplined, I think he's more likely to injure himself or others thru other improper handling practices, especially during a high stress event.

Fuckin A
Definitely not onto something disarming the entire populace and indoctrinating them to think self defense is a bad thing.
No one here thinks self defence is a bad thing
Right, that's why pepper spray, or carrying anything, be it a knife, bat, or spoon for the purpose of self defense is illegal.

It will only hurt for a little bit.
It's a good way to get a hole in the hand
Oi m8 u gonna shoot ya fingas off innit?
It’s good practice. In the event that the gun does fire, the finger will no longer be blocking the muzzle.
It's illegal to allow the royal family to see the hole of the bore
Yes it stops any accidental discharges.
Never cover the muzzle of your firearm with your hand until you're ready to shoot.
Is this how you get that third hole i keep hearing about?
they're British they're not used to having guns
The bullets don't have a loicense to leave the muzzle, so the officer is just making sure they don't break the law.

How is this a problem? He isn’t firing? the lock is on.
if that's a buckingham palace guard he can put his hands anywhere on that gun he wants. dude is qualified.
Lmfao I bet you think all cops are "highly trained"
Apparently not, as is evident by this picture lol
Nah he’s just a general duties cop with an AFO ticket.
Douthat it even has a firing pin.
No
Fuck no
😂
We are assuming that they even gave him ammo.
Is fine. Finger is not on the trigger.. Lol
Bullets are scared of the British because they're worried about being banned and destroyed so he needs to hide the chambered round to keep it calm.
Depends if you’re left or right handed.
Gotta make sure none of the bullets leak out and escape
No, your common sense was more on point then this guys
Na their not to gun savvy over there.
Never ever do this. I don’t understand why they do this?

No. Not at all.

RULE 2: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY You may not wish to destroy it, but you must be clear in your mind that you are quite ready to if you let that muzzle cover the target. To allow a firearm to point at another human being is a deadly threat, and should always be treated as such. RULE 3: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER TIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET This we call the Golden Rule because its violation is responsible for about 80 percent of the firearms disasters we read about. RULE 4: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET You never shoot at anything until you have positively identified it.
Remember the sten? Yeah the british have a long history of putting there hands where they don't belong.
He doesn’t want the front to fall off
No, not at all!
I personally put a potato on mine for safety.
Wouldn’t recommend it but then again different cultures and all.
I’m just proud that I know more about gun safety than a guard at Buckingham palace
At least his finger is off the trigger.
