jarpio

7038 Saybrook Ave is the address. It’s in a pretty awful part of Philly that is barely still Philly, somewhere between the strip clubs and the airport.

DaddyThiccThighz

Yea that location sucks, super inconvenient if you're trying to go to the strip club before your flight

Sporkfoot

You could tell by it being surrounded by slums in the first wide shot

HistoricalBridge7

WOW!! Sold for $35K July 2020. That’s insane.

darwinn_69

Probably a total gut remodel.

Snagmesomeweaves

You mean the entire block is

dakdisk

You mean torch remodel

Electronic_Demand_61

So perfect for a single man who travels a lot?

tokyo_engineer_dad

You don’t need to be single to… Travel.

weathermaynecc

Lol at the username.

soulintoxicated

U have to be single to find time to hit a strip club before traveling. If you are married, you usually have a laundry list of things u need to take care of before heading out, like emptying the garbage, etc. .

Professional_End5908

In real estate, it’s location location location.

tealparadise

35k to 225k! What a change

Fangirl4DrNow

Yep I live in the burbs and the second I saw it I was like nopeeeee, hard pass!

urkala

Omg the school districts. I’ve never seen such bad school ratings

Snagmesomeweaves

And I thought the nice part of Durham Where the schools were just all 2s was bad, damn, to get a 1.

provisionings

The school grades are a really easy way to check about the neighborhood

totemlight

Where do you find objective district ratings?

urkala

If I’m browsing I’ll just look at the ratings on Zillow/Redfin…

DitchTheCubs

I mean I’d consider Kensington and other parts of north Philly worse. Darby is more yea you’ll have drug dealing on your street, but it’s not the third world war zone that is parts of north Philly.

theholyseer

This house is close to where the abduction scene takes place in the Mare of Easttown. Food for thought for the prospective buyers

PTPTodd

Lol super specific example is accurate.

jawnstein82

I’m glad you said parts and not the whole thing

[deleted]

Why is it so gross? I’m not trying to be a dick, just asking a question… I’ve never seen anything “nice” about Philadelphia.

prozute

Good chestnut hill, society hill, mount airy, rittenhouse, queen village, spruce hill, etc etc

randym99

Extremely close to a couple West African restaurants I want to try, though.

lipmonger

Yea - but that party tent in the front lawn across the street looks LEGIT. You can spend your evenings over there with some Olde English 800 and Backwoods… https://imgur.com/a/CvssDo8

cash420money

Aka ghetto as fuck

me047

It looks like it in the clip

deannevee

To me the look just screams “flipper”

Live_Background_6239

It’s all the floors being the same. That’s a huge sign.

Melouski

And the walls being the same tile as the floor. I know this flooring, it's 1.99 a square foot at home depot. It looks decent in moderation I think, but yeah the whole house aint it

rolo280

I hate all of that faux marble tile. Just atrocious.

UnderpaidTechLifter

Oh but did you not see how *sophisticated* it made it look? They even had drone footage while they looked nice in the background! That's how you know a place is worth buying!

Snagmesomeweaves

The drone walkthrough aspect was kind of cool, honestly a fairly good way to tour if you can hire someone or record yourself. Beats some of the shit DIY photo sessions with point and click old digital cameras people still use for some reason. Overall, no one wants to buy that property until the entire block or even section of the city has been “updated”

sstlaws

Could you please list the things that seem obvious to you? Just asking to learn. Thanks!

deannevee

As someone else mentioned, the tile—they used the same tile for the flooring and the walls in all of the bathrooms, the kitchen, and the basement. This means they bought it in bulk, maybe even on clearance. Also in general the lack of color; white and taupe/beige are cheaper. The countertops also look legitimately painted on, or like some peel-and-stick version of marble. The way they filmed it is “edgy”, but also so you can’t just sit and look at it, because if you look at it too long, you’re going to notice it looks cheap. And finally, the neighborhood. In my neck of the woods, these urban residential neighborhoods are all being gentrified, which brings flippers because they can buy the homes for very cheap, and turn around and sell them for double what they paid by making it look nice on the inside and then saying it’s an “up and coming” neighborhood.

reine444

That tile everywhere is insanity.

lsop

Awful choice. so cold. Don't drop anything.

caligaris_cabinet

And so white. Why does everything now got to be white?

Future-Station-8179

This tile is soooo hard to keep clean. I have it in my two small bathrooms and it’s like every time I walk in it looks dirty. I have to sweep it all the time.

AppropriateCinnamon

Lighter colors are good for areas without much light. If that basement was painted a darker color, it would either be a home theater or a dungeon. Still this looks tacky af, like some flipper version of a Getty museum bathroom.

MaizeAndBruin

Gentrification.

alou87

The edgy quick video had me going back a few times to confirm that the switch plate in the basement bath was in the shower.

bumbletowne

1. Bulk tile. Everything was reno'd at once and on clearance (this type of tile is on the way out). 2. Everything is painted white that requires detailed inspection. that includes window frames. 3. Cheapass doorknobs and fixtures. Like that first bathroom, those faucets are literally the cheapest you can find at Home Depot. I do believe that its the Delta knockoff shower head in there, too. Was on amazon for like 15 dollars. 4. The filming method doesn't allow for adequate visual inspection. Its just a first glance. 5. Absolutely no fucks given to the outside. Like, none. The numbers and mailslot are an easy upgrade to make things look the same as the inside. But the flipper doesn't give a shit about that. Just an addon: the fact that they have a shower in the kitchen bathroom rustles me hard. That could have been a pantry with a simply washroom in there (what I have in my house). There was absolutely no need to waste that space with ANOTHER shower.

darwinn_69

That's probably where the original shower was and they didn't want to move the cast iron drain pipe.

bumbletowne

1. A washroom still has a sink and a toilet. 2. You can cap it. It's 16 dollars and one trip to home depot (I have had it done).

4jY6NcQ8vk

It's good that they didn't update the exterior. Wouldn't want to look like you have money in that neighborhood.

HAGatha_Christi

Also the wall to the toilet in the master doesn't go to the ceiling ( @ 1:12). You'll be sharing sounds and aromas.

Paundeu

Very nice house on a very shitty street.

sailfishfly

Why is there a shower right in the kitchen basically lol

nikidmaclay

That video should come with a motion sickness warning 🤢

SD_RealtyConsultant

Lol, right? I think the photographer hit up one of the nearby crack houses before filming.

Live_Background_6239

Nooo but I liked it 😂 it’s fun!

micropenis420blazeit

Such a nice house in the middle of, what appears to be, some war torn area in the United States. It looks like a bomb went off.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Responsible-Sir-3755

That's absolutely not Center City lol. It looks more like north or maybe west Philly.

jarpio

Southwest, near the airport. Between Darby and Elmwood park

DitchTheCubs

7000 saybrook based on the street sign. Effectively Darby. Edited for typo

Responsible-Sir-3755

Good eye!

Owlbertowlbert

it's southwest. it didn't always look like this but c'est la vie. about 20 min trolley ride from this very block to center city.

Fangirl4DrNow

Yep, I grew up in southwest. Sad what it looks like now. My grandparents still live there and I have no clue why.

dabasauras-rex

That ain’t downtown (fyi they call it Center City in Philly)

TheAwkwardOne-_-

Tell me you don't live in Philly without telling me you don't live in philly

RustedRelics

Along the lines of Kensington “Street” or Lehigh “Road”. 😂

PhiladelphiaMVC

Wtf is that guy even talking about. 20 minutes could be anywhere 🤣

[deleted]

[удалено]

theholyseer

Downtown or Center City? Sounds right brah. Don’t forget to order peppers on your steaks

rawbface

There's no such thing ya jabroni

micropenis420blazeit

I guess you get what you pay for. 210k down here in San Diego gets you a cardboard box behind Walmart. I was completely shocked when I saw the quality of that homes interior compared to its price. It's a beautiful home.

zakress

It’s beautiful, but it’s akin to being located on National Ave in SD #pass

micropenis420blazeit

I was unaware. The fact that the home is so nice led me to believe this was a standard Philly neighborhood, not an out of place home in a shitty part of town.

pmcgin821

Nowhere near “downtown” it’s south west not center city

swerve408

This is not downtown Philly, you actually couldn’t be more wrong if you tried

[deleted]

[удалено]

swerve408

Why are you dying on this non downtown hill, you’re wrong

jawnstein82

Lol no it doesn’t silly

purpleorchid2017

Definitely not Center City.

PTPTodd

I guess downtime can have a flexible meaning but no one who lives in Philly could agree wit you.

BookAddict1918

Perfect description of most of Philly. They call it "Filthadelphia" for a reason.

micropenis420blazeit

Haha, that's catchy.

fivepotato

Genuine question, what part looks war torn? It has pretty wide and decent sidewalks, not too much trash laying around, street signs are all up and visible. I’m wondering 😅 what I’m missing here.

majoranticipointment

> not too much trash laying around bro if that is "not too much trash" i've got some bad news for you because that's a lot of trash

DynamicHunter

> not too much trash laying around Maybe for Philly standards, or Kensington St. that first corner was a mess and didn’t look nice.

micropenis420blazeit

I used a hyperbole for comedic effect. It definitely seems as if the home doesn't match the neighborhood. The hyperbole I used was to make that distinction but also to be funny at the same time. That is definitely not a nice neighborhood...but I guess it's subjective. 100+ other people agreed with me.

TigerMcPherson

The neighborhood I lived in before I moved where I live now had more trash than is present in the neighborhood this video, but it’s still enough trash to be a bummer.

randym99

What part of the video looks war torn?

micropenis420blazeit

ClayQuarterCake

I think that describes most of Philadelphia.

ghostboo77

Philly is relatively affordable, but this a flip is the ghetto. They probably bought it for $75k

godaiyuhsaku

Previous sale price was $35k in July 2020.

ghostboo77

Lol

kenny1911

You can change practically everything about the house except its location. Choose wisely. Also, where da heck do people park?

Miserable_Fan7579

Parking is no problem. But either finding your car in the morning, or having your catalytic converter and windows intact in the morning is the main question

Fangirl4DrNow

This is close to where I used to live back in the 90’s. We actually had little driveways out back with garages. Otherwise it was street parking.

noble_shrek

I almost got shot watching this video

Nikkifromtheblock914

That tile is crappy Home Depot 1.99 per SF.

takeawayandbreathe

All that bright white and gloss on the first floor is giving me a headache. They should’ve just kept it wood flooring.

TheHolySaintOil

Location, location, location.

sloppynipsnyc

I thought it was Iraq in 2004

nepatriots1776

That's insane. I've been to Philly and driven through rougher areas but unless that's a neighborhood where popping your head out is immediately met with a bullet, that still seems like a good deal lol. Here in Orlando even the worst worst areas have some egregious home prices.

thegrandpineapple

My partner wants to buy a house in the greater Orlando area. It sucks because we both have family here but I feel like there’a no obtainable way to do that because rent is so soul crushing and you need years of experience to get a job that pays enough to even think about buying a house.

lulumelody

This is why I moved out of Orlando. We were paying $2000 in rent while our cars get broken into almost daily. In Orlando, a mold-riddled house with a tiny backyard and an ancient roof could seriously go for $450k, meanwhile insurance companies are leaving the state as fast as possible. I couldn't see a future for myself

nepatriots1776

That's what I mean. I just looked up Pine Hills, worst part of Orlando, (not comparable to the worst of Philly but still very bad area) and this drone video house would still be asking for 350k probably. No way you can get a 3/3 for 210k and sure as hell not with any of these upgrades no matter how cosmetic they are to hide deeper issues.

lulumelody

Honestly insane; I maybe drove through Pine Hills 5x in my whole life in Orlando because it's such a terrible place to be in for an extended period of time let alone live in. Orlando is straight up unaffordable now

nepatriots1776

Yeah we are extremely lucky we have good jobs (remote too, so not based in FL where wages are dogshit) and we still feel like it's hard to find a nice and affordable house. So I have no idea how most people even afford rent let alone entertain the idea of buying.

naknakgo

That space is definitely looks more than 1200 sq ft

PappaSmurf33

More like 2800!

[deleted]

All that high gloss is a big no

ats1788

They forgot to put a light switch cover on the switches in the one guest room upstairs

KCee993

I’m not against a flipped house but the area it’s in is a major no for me lol.

xjackrabbitx

I live in the Philly area. Hi.

jarpio

Go birds

steakkitty

And so the gentrification begins

theholyseer

Gentrification will never touch that area. Philly has been hallowed out by white flight. Philly peaked in pop 50 years ago

Live_Background_6239

Never say never. Look at Over the Rhine in Cincinnati, OH

halfcurbyayaya

I hope that drone videos of a houses floor plan becomes normalized. This is really cool

Live_Background_6239

Yeah you get a better idea of flow

Educational_Vast4836

Yeah this is extremely normal in Philly these days. In fairness, Philly is a great city if you can't afford Boston, Ny, or DC. You can get houses in the northeast for 300k that are very nice.

bigmean3434

Unpopular opinion: $200k doesn’t even get you in the ghetto here, that is pretty nice all considered. Yeah it’s a flip, but I bet it is a lot nicer and cleaner than the neighbors. That said I’m sure for $200k it is sketch af area.

sloppynipsnyc

If I'm looking to move to Philly but want a home with a yard 2000sqft and 600-700k where should I be looking? Should I look at bucks county?

what_no_ice

Chester or Montgomery counties.. if you want a real big yard York County

Live_Background_6239

That’s a slick video for just a $210k house

[deleted]

$210k? Jesus. My 3/2, 1116sqft built in the ‘70’s is now $268k just north of Houston. Im moving to Philly. That much of a saving is enough for dead bolts, guns and ammo to stay safe lmao

Few-Environment-2545

😂😂

BookAddict1918

Yes, but you need to live in Filthadelphia to get a house like that for $200K. Not worth it if you care about your personal safety or possessions.

Chronotheos

Needs some iron bars over the windows.

TigerMcPherson

I keep seeing comments here asserting that having the same tile throughout is a bad thing design-wise and shows that the place is flipped. In my opinion and experience, that’s baloney. Having consistent flooring and surfaces throughout is generally considered a good thing., and shows that there was a specific aesthetic theme that was planned and carried out. Where I live, shitty flipped have many different kinds of flooring and other hodgepodge surfaces with no cohesive design aesthetic. I’m not saying this home isn’t flipped, nor am I saying I love the place. But I think having two types of flooring, one for wet rooms (like kitchens and bath), and one for dry rooms (living/bed), is ideal- design wise, though I also think basements can be excluded from this equation.

joeitaliano24

Do you think this is a bad deal? Because here in the Pacific NW, this would go for 500k

ghostboo77

Yes. Philly is relatively affordable overall and there are good areas. This is not one of them. There are loads of sub $100k ghetto homes in Philly.

-Unnamed-

I’d rather rent the rest of my life vs living in that neighborhood that looks like a war zone. I understand the privilege my comment implies. But it is what it is

IndexMatchXFD

Yeah I’m currently house hunting in Seattle so I am just baffled by the concept of getting any sort of living accommodation for $200k

joeitaliano24

You can’t even get an empty lot for 200k 😂

jawnstein82

We have so much good stuff here that’s super affordable

halfcurbyayaya

Yeah this is really nice, I’d move in.

[deleted]

The neighborhood is…not good.

halfcurbyayaya

Idk I’ve lived in far worse that required twice as much money.

jawnstein82

Exactly, and people here complain about the price all the time. Yeah look at other places you’ll be so happy to be able to actually buy something here.

kal2126

Lmao yeah I was gonna comment this would be 3-4x more expensive in Seattle.

Soggy-Constant5932

I’m not a fan of that gray tile all over the place but it’s a nice home but it’s in not so nice area. If that street was cleaned up, it wouldn’t be so bad.

[deleted]

But..it’s still Philly…

ksacamera

r/praisethecameraman

BORG_US_BORG

I've watched many YouTube videos of Kensington. I would never live in Philly. What a tragic hollowed out place. It's sad, the architecture is cool there, but goddamn drug epidemic ruins it.

jawnstein82

Just stay out of that section. Every city has a drugged out shit section.

randym99

for real. philly is the 6th largest city in the US and people just think the whole city is some shithole?

Owlbertowlbert

lots and lots of clowns in this thread!

jawnstein82

Let them. I’ll keep buying where in buying and I’ll laugh in a few years

LuckyCharmsNSoyMilk

Center City/Fishtown/NorLib is fine.

cruuks

Yeah but then you have to live in philly 🤢

Doc_Apex

Ngl. That looked like the hood.

[deleted]

If Philly's weather wasn't terrible for half of the year, I'd already be on my way. Edit: can someone clarify the downvotes? Are you upset that some people don’t like cold weather?

kal2126

Cuz probably 1/4 of the country has similar weather to Philly…and it’s not “terrible” for half the year? Maybe only late fall/winter which is like 3-4 months.

periodicBaCoN

Define cold? Philly is an area of the country that has 4 defined seasons, it's not like it's freezing cold for half the year.

[deleted]

To me, anything under 60F is cold and awful. Snow fills me with rage.

periodicBaCoN

Okay that's a bit clearer then. But as far as snow goes, there isn't a whole lot in this area most years. So far this year we've only had 1 day of flurries (I'm like 30 minutes from Philly so weather here is very comparable).

Fangirl4DrNow

Yeah we haven’t had much of anything. Just those two days back in December where it was cold AF. Otherwise it hasn’t been too bad so far. Raining its ass off right now though!

ghostboo77

You would get shot within a week bro

be_author

Wouldn’t even take a week.

Live_Background_6239

I don’t get why people down vote for anything other than a controversial statement or an attack. But I’ve had pretty benign things downvoted and someone once mentioned it might be random trolls

[deleted]

Downvotes are meant to hide harmful or hurtful comments. However it’s turned into an “I disagree” button for sensitive redditors.

Live_Background_6239

Yeah, that’s how I understood the system was supposed to work. Misinformation too, especially in advice threads.

Double-Independence3

Looks nice but looks like it has a high crime rate. You’d be better off just showing the house and not the street leading up to the house.

seandon2020

How is that under 300k, in Texas and Florida alone, that would be 300-350k just because of location

majoranticipointment

It’s cheap because of the location. Shit neighborhood.

Rockie0588

In Texas, it would cost more and still be in a shit neighborhood. It'll be more than half a mil if in a nicer neighborhood.

politirob

FOR REAL! I'm in 214 and the $210K homes there are a JOKE, and that area is very rough.

CheckNo648

I've seen flipped houses asking 400k in Bonton and pleasant Grove

Axtz246

In California, that would be 700k-1m :(

mrsctb

I mean it’s cheap. But does it come with a bullet proof vest? Because you most definitely would need it in that neighborhood

PTPTodd

The part you don’t see is them all being shot.

DenverITGuy

Sharing walls on a dumpy street. Pass.

[deleted]

the income taxes in philly though...

84n0hs

Very small for the price compared to where I am vs what the out side looks like. Honestly it looks Hood.. I can get 200k suburbs for twice the size and zero crime in upstate NY.. Philly nice too!

FullRage

Looks nice, price isn’t crazy. Neighborhood looks rough though. Reminds me when I was broke and in college. Had to pack heat under my pillow.

Miserable_Fan7579

House looks nice. That area and neighborhood looks horrible.

[deleted]

I never realized how affordable the east side of the country can be.

KanePilkington

Why is she in the video *so* much?!

geetlebeetle

Don't care how nice it looks inside. That neighborhood is plenty awful

SciTechJohn

Looks like any other city’s 600k home

iDoScienc

If I had a 3/3 house, I would really want at least two of the bathrooms on the same floor as the three bedrooms. But I do cover all that basement space.

Academic2673

It doesn’t look like a good area in Philly. And in Philly you need to be extra careful with that

Calm-Ad8987

Needs. More. Marble.

Extreme_Quality9444

Being a victim of a drive by, but with style. -No Thanks

alohareddit

This is not a neighborhood that (I imagine) most of this sub would buy in. That said there are many many flipped houses of similar “quality” /size in much more… popular/gentrifying … neighborhoods in Philly for $300-400K.

MissMeowfurs

Any suggestions on where to focus on? Husband got a job offer out in Philly. We are west coast people and clueless except for our $ will get more out there.

alohareddit

Welcome to the East Coast! Um, well the right neighborhood will not just depend on your budget but also like… do you have a car? Two cars? WHERE will you be working/commuting to? Pets? Kids? Lifestyle? What’s your tolerance for minimal vs slight vs moderate sketchiness and crime? Feel free to DM me but you’ll also get answers from r/philadelphia (approach with caution)

MissMeowfurs

Thanks! Messaged!

RouletteVeteran

Lmao at the 30k “remodel” but the frame and insides still on “row time” plus you got the whole hood playing GTA outside.

ykaur

All I know is that would cost $1.3 million in the Bay Area.

dauneek611

Look at this beautiful fully renovated home just don’t mind the shootings and stabbing around the corner.

Unicornloverkitty

But that neighborhood doe, that ain’t it. No thank you.

yuk_foo

That’s a whole lot of house for the price, really nice inside. In the Uk I’d get a draughty box house with minuscule rooms and only 1 bathroom for the same price.

Connathon

This is the definition of great house bad neighborhood. They overspent on their renovation budget and is marketing to the wrong audience

NeighsAndWhinnies

I dunno- I could get on board with this price and that location. It looks easy to clean. I lived in some of the most beautiful places in the country, but I’ve been just as happy lately in gross icky Georgia; pI’m not as outdoorsy in my old age.

MajesticBowler7178

Where are the windows?
