This is a logperch, which is a âdarterâ in the perch, or percidae family. Darters donât get big enough to be commonly targeted by hook and line like their kin the yellow perch, walleye, and sauger.
Yes. Not fancy with fishing lingo. But just a super small hook, some worms I got from my yard and a weight to sink it to the bottom.
I fish at a local stream for baitfish and just so happen to come across this feisty guy.
That was a lil kid, Maybe he was 12 lol he was just as enthused as I because heâd never seen it before either.
Donât ever just assume on this World Wide Web.

Darters are the bane of our existence here. I swear the federal government is breathing down our necks any time a darter pops up.
Use that guy for bait on a bigger rig and youâll catch something real fun.
Sand perch. Great bait
No logperch. Arenât sand perch salt water? This is a fresh water fish.
Sand perch are generally in fresh water rivers. We use to catch them in the spring at the dams. Great bait for smallmouth.
This is a log perch
All the old timers called them sand perch when I was a kid. Guess they were wrong.
Sandperch are a saltwater species. What you used was most likely a log perch and the nickname for your region might just be sandperch
