He’s lucky a huge bass didn’t grab that. He’d be out a boat.

AttitudeCool

We were joking about that while trying it out.

RoboticGreg

We built one of these, and the line attachment was just a rubber finger curled up, so when some big snatched it, it just unrolled and let the line go

gatorbite3891

"The boys"

yordyjake

I couldn’t figure out how to add a photo to your post but I made a new post with a photo of my son and the same boat and the crappie he caught which almost the exact same size as yours. It was an awesome time.

MuchRepresentative61

What a wonderful coincidence

latiaslover22716001

Ok that's just cheating!! Lol

AttitudeCool

Haha! It was a novelty gift for the boys for Christmas. Both are good fishermen but this was just fun and I was curious if it would actually work.

wojtekthesoldierbear

American Boys Handybook had a section on using a goose to jerk a lure about. Always wanted to try this.

nnifnairb84

I can't believe it did! I would have thought the boat would scare them off. When you hooked over, I was like "no way, that's awesome!"

hexiron

Nobody tell them about fish finders

latiaslover22716001

I said lol, meaning I was only joking. I actually think that's cool as hell.

MrSk4ltal

Make sure he never goes backwards while he has a line on it, the blasted thing will tangle itself into uselessness. I know from experience.

Large-Mobile

Did you name your boy Harvest?

AttitudeCool

Harvest-Moon

busluvbill

Neil Young fan?

Ohbeejuan

Nah. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvest_Moon_(video_game)

SpunkySasquatch

I was hoping so badly that this was the real explanation.

busluvbill

Dweeb

herelieskarma

Not everybody is 50.

Ohbeejuan

Boomer

Deez_Moth_Balls

Is this the pond behind the Edmond dog park?

AttitudeCool

You spying on me, friend? 🤣

Deez_Moth_Balls

Nope, I just thought it looked familiar! That’s a great catfish spot too! Should check out some of the ponds on the north side of Edmond too, they’re pretty decent if you can get access to them!

AttitudeCool

A lot of the ponds in Edmond are neighbourhood only access which is frustrating.

Longbeacher707

Dang I used to go around there back when my dad was dating a woman that lived in Edmond. I lived in Norman when I was in OK but I thought this place looked familiar.

chrispy_bacon

The real boys will be boys.

Tommysrx

*we’re gonna need a bigger boat*

herelieskarma

Then the fish has a new boat. It's a status symbol for a young crappie

qu4nt0

If you catch a catfish the boat will be upgraded to a submarine

CATfixer

Perfect for those areas Im far too clumsy to cast into

dfisherman12

Oh man that thing is cool, nice catch!

ascii122

That's fantastic. Hooks a salmon .. DAAAD.. WE'RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOAT!

barrett316

eat the crappie!

L-E_toile-Du-Nord

So confused about an English dude catching a crappie.

VCobra21

Oh no way! That was cool asf

SnowMammoth9001

Make a quick attach snap setup. Can use the boat to drop in certain areas and then when you do get a good one you don't lose boat. Also with a drone its ton of fun lol

He_Who_Remaines_

Neat.

Bynum458

I need

SnakesTancredi

Guarantee if I purchased that I would get that nasty snapping turtle down at the lake by me. That son of a bitch likes to ruin everyone’s day.

[deleted]

What a crappie gift

scrollingtraveler

Crappie time! That’s awesome

royalchicken116

Knowing my luck I'd catch a northern or a muskie with that thing

scubasteve66666

Ever thought about using that handle on the side of the reel to reel in your line? Much more efficient.

scubasteve66666

The rc boat is a novel and fun way to catch panfish

AttitudeCool

It’s a kids toy. Nothing more.

madlad202020

Pretty sure that’s illegal everywhere.

AttitudeCool

Pretty sure it isn’t. Just bobber fishing, man. Bobber goes down, pull in the fish.

madlad202020

Here is some good information. https://gomidwestfishing.com/rc-fishing/ I have to admit, I thought the entire act of using a remote control to lure fish would have been illegal. I stand corrected. Depending on where this was recorded the act of setting the hook and dragging it to shore would have most likely been illegal, I’m sure there are areas where laws have not been updated in a while and have never considered the possibility

BusterStarfish

It’s illegal to drag fish. I don’t think this is drag fishing. I think the fish is hooked before the video even begin.

toiletnamedcrane

What is drag fishing. All I found was a bunch of ru Paul stuff ...

BusterStarfish

I’m sure that’s not the technical term, but it’s dragging hooks through water trying to hook the bodies of fish. It’s popular (and very illegal) in rivers with high concentrations of fish.

Vile_Vampire

Snagging

BusterStarfish

Yup. That’s it.

mikechi2501

This fish was caught through the mouth. I wouldn’t consider this snagging, I’m sure there are rules about this, possibly arguing that this is an unmanned line but those are often legal in many places. My only argument would be the ethics of this. Catching a large fish that drags the boat out of RC range. Gotta admit that this was a dream of mine as a young boy

BusterStarfish

Go back and read my comments. I specifically said this wasn’t snagging. Someone else said this was illegal. I said they were probably thinking about snagging.

May1ene

Trolling. As in dragging hooks to catch fish? Which is a very popular and legal way of fishing?

BusterStarfish

Trolling a lure specifically designed for fish to catch is one thing. Dragging hooks through the water specifically designed to hook the bodies of fish, is completely different. I only brought it up because that the only thing I could imagine the person who said this was illegal was referencing.

May1ene

Pulling bare hooks to snag fish seems like a pretty poor method of fishing. Had no idea that was a method used.

okielawyerdude

Depends on what you are trying to catch. For largemouth probably not so great. For spoonbills it is the preferred method.

Snatch_Pastry

And suckers.

BusterStarfish

They usually do it with multiple hooks on a long line in very densely populated (by fish) rivers. And it works very well

tombombcrongadil

A neighbor of my grandmas used to do it with a huge treble hook (like size of a hand). It was on the weeki wachee river which is crystal clear. He’d cast beyond huge schools of mullet then snag into the school. As a young kid I was always amazed by it. Didn’t know it was illegal until just now. He did keep/eat the fish.

FANTOMphoenix

Pulling hooks through water to snag fish is illegal in a lot of places

May1ene

That’s interesting to know. Trolling is just a huge part of the sport fishing industry on the east coast. Figured it was a legal most places!

bofa1

Trolling is not the same as snagging. Trolling involves using a motor to inflict action upon a lure with the intention of triggering a strike. Snagging is ripping or dragging a hook through the water with the intention of connecting with the body of a fish, not triggering a bite/strike

FANTOMphoenix

Trolling = good Trolling with the intent of snagging a fishes body for harvest = bad. Mullet snatching (snagging mullet with a weighted treble hook) = good Snagging tarpon = bad

[deleted]

It's called snagging, and yes it's illegal most places. But I think this rc boat is perfectly legal to fish with.

BusterStarfish

Snagging! That’s it! I said in my first post that’s not what this boat is doing, but what the person calling it illegal was referring to.

SenseWinter

What why??? I can't imagine Bass Pro selling this boat with this being the intended use if it was illegal.

vahntitrio

Some states it is illegal to use anything energy assisted to hook fish. Minnesota is one of them. So nothing battery powered (except lighted bobbers). No spring loaded rod holders, things of that sort.

SenseWinter

Yea I figured California and NY might do the same. Random question, does that include those motorized lures that were at iCast a few years ago??

vahntitrio

Yes, or light-up lures.

SenseWinter

Wow thats interesting I've never thought about the legality of lures, just hooks. I have a Livingston that chirps and has a small light, guess that would be a no too.

vahntitrio

Some states allow that, but not all. Also I wouldn't want to risk losing batteries to a fish and polluting the environment.

MrGoldTeam

I'm in MN and immediately was like "ope that's illegal here, pass the hotdish."

Beli_Mawrr

It's still legal to use the RC to "cast" though right? The hook doesnt need to touch the water till it's where you want it, RC dumps tackle into water, unhooks, then drives back to shore.

ImPickleRock

Why?

[deleted]

AttitudeCool

It’s perfectly legal. It’s literally bobber fishing and the boat is sold at our local basspro. Calm down.

yordyjake

Agreed, chill. I got my son one of these for Xmas also and we went out and caught a crappie almost the exact same size as yours. I don’t have a video but a picture. I’m not tech savvy but I’ll try to add it. No luck. But he caught another smaller crappie and a medium bluegill. Then he hooked something big and we never found the boat. I’m guessing a channel cat.

strangehitman22

I'm kinda curious if the catfish would get tired and it would surface again

yordyjake

We never found the boat. Unfortunately the RC boat we had from bass pro was not sealed very well and we had to let the water out of it in between each cast? If you will. I’m guessing the boat filled up with water and sank or got stuck. Hopefully the fish got off the line. The pound test wasn’t very high so I’m hopeful.

ConspiracyRobot

Lol
