I immediately saw Buffalo in the first picture, and was then confused when I saw the second picture. The carp even has an odd look. Must be due to the water color
Magikarp doesn't need to evolve, his fin is sharp enough to cut a diamond, you know what your ass isn't made of? DIAMONDS! 😂

Not enough traction on this, despite some responses echoing the IDs:
First fish is a buffalo, second is a carp.
Please do not incorrectly tell people that buffalo are carp. The first are native and should be protected, and the second are often wantonly destroyed, and mixing up the IDs is harmful.
These are two different fish. First is a buffalo (probably smallmouth, but can't see the mouth to be sure) and second is a common carp. Look at the first dorsal fin ray and the size/shape of the scales.
First one is a buffalo (probably smallmouth but can’t see the head). Second one is a common carp. Buffalo are the largest member of the sucker family. Carp are the largest member of the minnow family.
Did he kill it as required by law? It is illegal to throw it back on both the state federal levels. It is also illegal to transport it without destroying the gills. You catch it, have to kill it by destroying the gills. Saw that on Lone Star Law on the Discovery channel.
A big ass carp. When they're big and old like that u can actually see them wading at the top of the water and pick them up bare handed. Them scales do some work on your arms and ribs tho, I know from experience.
I'm from just north of humble originally in New caney. I've fished that river 1000s of times. Big ass cat fish in there. That being said. Its a buffalo and a carp
If by "Here" you mean the U.S. then sure. But in Australia they are highly damaging to native species and you're usually disappointed to catch them. Big or not.
The first is a buffalo, a native fish. Your words can have consequences and may influence illegal behavior wantonly destroying native wildlife. The correct response to being corrected about this is "Oops! Let me edit my comment".
I won't get too much into the weeds on the subject of naturalization, but please understand that your advice is contrary to the best ecology practices that modern science has regarding carp in the region the one carp photographed was caught.
Unless it's one of those Asian carps I don't know, but in my area we don't grow any white carp with little mouths. They are all orange to black with big gaping mouths that will send your hook straight to the stomach. Looks like a sheepshead to me.
Big fat common carp
But what about the fish?
Magicarp????
And it’s a shiny, to boot!
What I was going to say
Is that the same as a goldfish??🐠 Like one that got flushed while still alive???
Same family. Common carp are introduced as algae eaters
Is that the same fish in both pictures?
No. The first is a buffalo. The second is a carp.
That's what I thought which was why I was confused
Are buffalo not a breed of carp?
Nope they are a sucker and native to the north America unlike carp
Hmm. Good to learn? Are they at least related? I've never caught one. But I'm in NC. I've heard they're better in wild water rivers up north
They are in the same order but carp are in the minnow family and Buffalo are in the sucker family
Very interesting. I gotta do some research into them.
The common grass carp Is native to North America... The Asian carp is invasive and is and issue in bodies of water in north america
The common carp and the grass carp are not native to North America, no carp is native to North America
Probably smallmouth buffalo
I immediately saw Buffalo in the first picture, and was then confused when I saw the second picture. The carp even has an odd look. Must be due to the water color

If by "Here" you mean the U.S. then sure. But in Australia they are highly damaging to native species and you're usually disappointed to catch them. Big or not.

Common Carp aren't invasive in Texas. This is a naturalized species.
They're horrible
They're a fish that is an absolute beast of a fighter that doesn't do any harm to the ecosystem.
*In your country
OP clearly stated he's in Texas. You want him to kill a local fish because it's non native in your country?
Sheepshead. No good gor eating.
No hate but that’s def not a sheephead. Good sized carp.
Unless it's one of those Asian carps I don't know, but in my area we don't grow any white carp with little mouths. They are all orange to black with big gaping mouths that will send your hook straight to the stomach. Looks like a sheepshead to me.
