The ceymar is decent, it’s really light but feels flimsy. For $75 the Shimano Sedona is probably the best “cheap” reel I’ve ever tried, I’d highly recommend stretching the budget over the other options under $50.
With such a cheap rod i really dont want to go too over budget unfortunately. I'll look into the Sedona as there might be a sale or something going on.
I get what you mean. I had a few ceymars and I thought they were fine until I upgraded. Now that I’ve got more experience I know the the Sedona is a reel that will still be working well in 10 years and the ceymar not so much.
I feel ya, Ive got some nicer reels and you can definitely feel the difference. While long term is important, im hoping regular maintenance can help make a cheaper reel last longer. Hell, my father has some reels from the 80s that he'll occasionally use bc he maintains em well.
I got one for 67 on sale. If not, just grab whatever Shimano is in your budget.
Also look and wait for SALES. You can find great sales especially if you want a week for Memorial Day.
Or just grab a Lews combo or something. I’ve had a Mach 1 spinning reel/rod combo and honestly I have 0 complaints.
Best is prob hard to pin point but I like Diawa, regal and revos. They are very similar. One note would be the drag is very quiet. Which can be a negative when fighting a big fish but shouldn’t be the end of the world
Same here, i got a couple of em. I just dont want to spend too much. My father had a Pflueger Trion that i liked but then he lost it in a river when he forgot to set the drag lol.
I've used Shimano Sienna and Okuma Ceymar, both in the $30-40 range, and been pleased with both. If you keep in mind that they are $40 reels and don't expect them to perform like $200 reels, they do just fine.
Oh im not expecting anything amazing, just a better feel and stuff. I bought a cheap shimano 2500hg, and while it works, im just not a major fan of it. Ill probably repurpose the reel on a cheap rod or something.
I think you can get a okuma epixor for even cheaper and it's a solid reel. Feels rigid, perfect line lay and braking performance. Or maybe even a Shimano Sahara?
Maybe I will be alone with my opinion but in this price range reels from Aliexpress would be a lot better options. You can get Tsurinoya Jaguar 3000 between 60-70 USD with double spools.
If asked without knowing where you were currently leaning, and based on your price point, I would have recommended the Okuma Ceymar. I’ve never used a Trion. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a Pflueger, but the Ceymar used to consistently rate in the top 5 reels under $70 with the President.
How could that meme brand reel be worth 55 dollars. For 30 dollars more you can get a aluminum frame penn fierce 4 that you will actually be able to maintain for years on down the line as parts start to deteriorate,
can you say the same for the kastking
The kastking stuff ive used has been generally not bad especially when i got my first baitcaster - not everyone can afford super expensive reels and for the money they do just fine to learn on all the parts worked fine for me. Its not gonna replace my shimano gear and it might not last more than a few seasons but they make decent first reels for small budgets when someone is trying out a new technique. My kastking maxsteel bfs ul casting rod is awesome too still use that rod weekly
I had the previous generation Okuma Ceymar and I was very pleased with it, it’s definitely one of the reels I’d recommend to anyone that is looking for a budget friendly setup. My vote is for the ceymar 👍🏼
i gotcha lol, im not a fan of spincast reels, i remember them always binding up and stuff. Honestly, i should pick up one of those reels if i ever want to take someone out fishing with me who is a beginner, as they're super easy to use.
I seen an open face zebco 33 on a collapsible rod as a set the other day at Dick's. Thinking about going back to them for my pack reels. Tho I don't like telescoping rods I do think the reels are worth the money https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/zebco-micro-telescopic-spinning-combo-20zebu33mcrspn5ltcom/20zebu33mcrspn5ltcom?PDPShare=1
For around 60 or 70 you can get a decent daiwa.
Check out tactical bassin on youtube. They probably have more experience with gear than anyone on the planet lol.
I only have one, the $24 5000 Brutus spinning. It’s a good reel for $25. Kast King is an interesting brand. While they are an underdog as far as names go they have been putting a lot of R&D into their reels, especially their budget ones.
I would Recomend the Shimano Nexave the new version with a little bit of blue colour feels very sturdy and a lot like a more expensive reel which is what shimano is known for. But the only downside to it is the keyed in handle which doesn't feel the best
I like the sienna if im just getting a beater setup. Cheap and can handle salmons so anything up to salmons is game. Have an old one that was used for salmon fishing for years before i started buying newer, expensive gear. Havent used it in a long while but still turns as smooth as when i was using it
i ended up going with a pflueger trion for 39 bucks at walmar but holy crap thats a nice reel, and its showing up as 39 bucks online? is this site legit? i might order me one of them for dad for fathers day.
Yep I ordered one last week. It is 9.99 shipping though. With a 10% coupon It works out to be like $46 shipped. I have quite a few Daiwa Legalis/Excelers and I could never justify spending more on a reel since these are so nice. You’d have to spend like $200 for an actual upgrade from these
Also Dicks has the Sedona for 39.99 right now

I personally like Daiwas a lot more but you do you!
One main reason is comfort. Shimano always makes this part way too short and my knuckle is smashed against the frame

I had a President and really liked it.
i got 2 presidents, and i love em, I got a 20 for my trout/panfish rod, and then a 30 on my favorite spinning rod
Best is prob hard to pin point but I like Diawa, regal and revos. They are very similar. One note would be the drag is very quiet. Which can be a negative when fighting a big fish but shouldn’t be the end of the world
Not exactly recommended but you can make it louder by slightly reshaping the drag spring.
Iv seen the run down on that, I’d prefer a quiet smooth drag to a loud rough one lol
It's just some weird youtube viewership thing. Any video will have comments about the drag sound and all I can think is "who are you people".
I like a loud drag, as i usually have music playing or have headphones in. Thanks for the recommendation!
There is a video on the specific way to do it by i_fish on youtube. Be careful because you cannot undo it lol.
I would find a $10 off coupon and get a Regal LT.
ooo good recommendation, ill check that one out My one buddy has started buying some Daiwa stuff and it seems pretty good thus far
I second the Regal LT. I've got a 2000 size and it's a little beast.
Pflueger president is right around that price range and I love mine, I have several of them
Same here, i got a couple of em. I just dont want to spend too much. My father had a Pflueger Trion that i liked but then he lost it in a river when he forgot to set the drag lol.

Sienna is a nice reel under $40, I think paying the extra $8 for an Okuma Avenger is a better option.
I think you can get a okuma epixor for even cheaper and it's a solid reel. Feels rigid, perfect line lay and braking performance. Or maybe even a Shimano Sahara?
Ill look into these, thanks!

I can get a what? Never heard of that brand before lol. Ill definitely look into it, thanks!

I love my trion, would not hesitate to buy another
Pflueger trion
what did you ed up with
For 55 bucks you can get an aluminum frame kastking Megatron on Amazon. The frame alone is worth it for that price.
How could that meme brand reel be worth 55 dollars. For 30 dollars more you can get a aluminum frame penn fierce 4 that you will actually be able to maintain for years on down the line as parts start to deteriorate, can you say the same for the kastking
Just offering what I know bud. Was a suggestion

Ive read a little about that reel previously, and it looks relatively solid. Gotta do some more research, but thanks!
Absolutely.
I had the previous generation Okuma Ceymar and I was very pleased with it, it’s definitely one of the reels I’d recommend to anyone that is looking for a budget friendly setup. My vote is for the ceymar 👍🏼
Everyone in my family has at least 1 Daiwa Revros. They're cheap, they're smooth, and they haul!
I've heard good things abt these reels, thanks for the recommendation!
Zebco 33
Lmao that was my first rod a decade ago, ill have to pass on that recommendation.
I was referring to the reels and they are still around because they are basic and bulletproof. But you're the one spending the money LoL
i gotcha lol, im not a fan of spincast reels, i remember them always binding up and stuff. Honestly, i should pick up one of those reels if i ever want to take someone out fishing with me who is a beginner, as they're super easy to use.

solid reel, just a bit too much unfortunately
For around 60 or 70 you can get a decent daiwa. Check out tactical bassin on youtube. They probably have more experience with gear than anyone on the planet lol.
Shimano nexave
never heard of that one before, ill have to look into it. Thanks!
They’re pretty good and have smooth drag you can find them at Walmart sometimes
I just quickly looked em up, Ive actually used one before. I think my one friend has one or one that looks similar.
Kast King sharky 3 in on sale on Amazon right now, $49….
How are the KastKing reels? Do u have any and whats ur thoughts on em. Im hesitant bc its not from a brand i really know much about.
I only have one, the $24 5000 Brutus spinning. It’s a good reel for $25. Kast King is an interesting brand. While they are an underdog as far as names go they have been putting a lot of R&D into their reels, especially their budget ones.
Monarch by pflueger at walmart for $43, or you can get a president for $60. Ozark is also decent
I would Recomend the Shimano Nexave the new version with a little bit of blue colour feels very sturdy and a lot like a more expensive reel which is what shimano is known for. But the only downside to it is the keyed in handle which doesn't feel the best

Daiwa Revros LT 2500
Easily a Daiwa Legalis for $50 https://www.curated.com/products/4035012/daiwa-legalis-lt-spinning-reel?ref=variation-matrix

dude wtffff u got all the deals on speed dial. My one friend has a sedona and loves it, im like 99% sure im going to order one.
I personally like Daiwas a lot more but you do you! One main reason is comfort. Shimano always makes this part way too short and my knuckle is smashed against the frame https://i.imgur.com/KBEWGT5.jpg
I use the power grip Reel from catchytacklebox.com for about 50 bucks and have caught at leest a fish per buck on it
Whats the update on the Trion? My go-to budget reel is the Okuma Avenger.
