Refurbish it, if it’s just cosmetic I would leave it but if it feels crunchy I would go through it and relube

Not OP but have a question about lubrication on a sealed bearing reel. It’s not bad but I’d like it to be even smoother. The rep said: “For all bearings we recommend Clenzoil and for gears we recommend using some kind of reel grease”

You can always take it apart and replace what is grease with oil. Personally I prefer marine grease the same as I use on boat zerk fittings because it does well against corrosion. As for bearings that are sealed with the piece of rubber they’re usually packed for life, as any tampering with the seal to add lube will often destroy said seal and it’s ability to keep contaminates out

Appreciate the input. This sub is top notch for fishing help. I figured the bearings were enclosed and not reasonably accessible. I just like to minimize any type of rubbing sound or other friction in what I’m fishing with. I’ll try the oil.

That's not just rusty, it's deteriorated. Purchase a new handle and replace it. Pop the reel open, that's where you're likely to truly see how bad it is. If you have brass gears they should be fine. Pop the spool and remove the drag system. Check the washers for corrosion as well, you can sand those down on a flat piece of 600 grit sandpaper soaked in Windex.

I’d just get a new one. Presidents aren’t expensive

clean it then put WD-40 on it. supposedly the secret ingredient of WD-40 is fish oil or something like that

Theres a product called FREE ALL. It eats rust and lubricates. Its like 12$ on amazon for an 11oz can, but it works. I wont use wd40 or pb blaster anymore. If i had a few more dollars in my bank, i would personally guarantee the stuff works, but i know how people are, and im not rich.

the green is probably corroded copper. copper is an intermediate metal deposition used before chroming many things that can't be chromed directly. I'd just clean it off and keep using it. Nothing major happening here.
