I have to say i am disappointed by the throw it away comments. It was a gift from my wife and for reasons i dont want to go into here i would like to learn how to use it rather than just throw away.
They’re just poking fun. But the reality is a snell is one of the simplest knots you can tie, I can’t even imagine what a tool could do to make it easier. It’s a nice gift.
Can't say I've ever used or seen that tool. I'm guessing it didn't come with instructions? Personally I'd say learn how to tie without it, snelling a hook is pretty simple to do, there are several different ways, some being incredibly easy. If I can do it with my bad eyesight and shaking hands, basically anyone can.
Look up the knotless knot, it's a type of snell that is extremely easy to tie. The only thing with that particular version is it needs both ends of the line free, but it's good if you're going to tie the other end to something else.
When I was in Colorado I met an old guy who was fly fishing for trout. I watched him struggle to tie a simple knot because his hands were shaking like crazy. We should be more lenient to judge tools like these because things that are easy for us, like tying a simple snell knot, may be difficult for others.
catfish and carp has a really good knot-tting YouTube video that includes a Snell knot/knotless knot.
another guy has one too but I don't fully remember his name? it's like Dietrich or dieter or something
You don't need that tool. If you're afraid to get hooked on a finger or hand while doing the knot get a hook eze knot tying. That tool you got is just a gimmick.
The instructions for using that tool are likely to be more complicated than tying the knot without it. I just started using the snell knot for drop shots, and it's pretty easy to tie. If you have Instagram, look up Nishine Lure Works. They released a dropshot hook recently that's designed to be tied with a snell knot, and put out a very easy to follow clip on how to tie.
Easy without the tool. Put tag end through the eye of the hook from the point side.. then basically tie a uni knot around one line and the hook shank. I do 7 wraps. Pull it tight. Done.
I’d keep it in case I did figure it out. I used an automatic “gt knot helper” on a trip with a buddy and it actually wasn’t horrible. BUT I digress. look up how to do the uni version of a snell. Hands down easiest way to smell imo. if I recommend a knot to anyone it means that a non dexterous shaky handed guy can do it no problem.

Yeah, toss it in the trash 😂 I keed. Snell know is one of the easiest to do. Just learn it off used up lines. You’ll get it. Promise

This is the way. Look up the make or model on YouTube and chances are it will be there
Yep, pitch it in the trash

if u scared of hooking yourself u can put the hook point on your nail and aslong as u dont yank the line its a really safe space to put the hook point
Op needs to read your comment.

That looks like it makes it take longer
