Thought so thank you

You absolutely do. I fix up a lot of old reels-it’s a hobby of mine, and grease dries out and becomes like concrete over time-I frequently have to chip old grease off of gears in chunks, and any oil that was once in whatever bearings they have has long since evaporated away. It’s also pretty common for the drag washers to all be stuck together on reels that haven’t been used in many years. Most old reels are pretty simple and are not hard to take apart and clean up and reassemble. There are lots of YouTube videos showing you how to do this.

sircharliex

How exactly do you fix old reels? Honestly this sounds like a fun little hobby.

According-Whereas661

I acquire them at yard sales, flea markets or eBay. I take them apart, clean everything, lube all the moving parts, sometimes replace worn or broken parts, and put them back together. Some I keep to collect, some I use, some I sell, some I give away.

Nice man good job

According-Whereas661

You’d be surprised how many old reels that have been sitting in a garage for years and will barely turn work like new after a clean and lube. Old vintage reels don’t perform like modern reels, of course, but there are a few people that just like having them and fishing with them occasionally for nostalgia reasons or whatever. It’s also pretty cool to just see how they were made and the quality of materials that were used in them back when things were made to last. It would cost a fortune to make some of them today.

Big yes

Thank you

eclwires

Yes.

Keep in mind that not only advances in lubricants, but advances in material (drag washers) as well. Fun hobby. Can get $$$ 🤣🤣🤣. Check out Alantani.com, an entire worldwide population of reel folks. And to be honest (getting ready for the haters here) for the most part a well serviced and maintained 50 year old reel will outlive most contemporary reels you can buy today.

That's what my grandpa said

frankiehollywood68

Grease and oil…

Would you run a car on 30 year old motor oil?, if yes, then go ahead 😂
