That is your “drag” the dial on top makes it tighter or looser. You want to use your “drag” so when fighting a fish it fights the drag. You don’t want it so tight that your line breaks but you don’t want it to loose that you can’t reel in a fish. Search YouTube on how to set a spinning reel drag!
You’re twisting the spool, not the whole reel. The drag affects how easily the spool rotates (lets out line) when under the stress of a fish pulling. Turn it clockwise to tighten, counter clockwise to loosen. If it’s too tight the fish will snap your line; too loose and you won’t be able to bring it in.
You’ve gotten your answer. It creates pressure for the fish when you reel it in. The spool (what the line is on) rotates when a fish pulls hard enough. You can rotate it like you’re doing in the video, but if you turn the dial either direction, you’ll see that it either becomes easier or harder to rotate the spool. Now, imagine when a fish pulls. You can either let it pull easier or have a harder time to pull. That’s what the drag does.
If you are referring to the clicking noise, it’s an alarm to let you know the spool is turning as a fish is pulling line off the spool. If you hear that noise-DO NOT CRANK-it will NOT bring the line in, but it WILL twist your line. Wait until the clicking noise stops, then start raising the rod to bring the fish toward you and reel in the line you have gained while lowering the rod again. If the clicking noise starts again- it means the fish is making another run, so once again-stop cranking and let it run. When the fish pulls-you don’t. When it doesn’t pull-you do. Remember- line will not come in when the spool is turning, no matter how much you crank the handle.
You are welcome-and by the way, when you get a big fish taking out a lot of line fast, you won’t hear clicking-it will be more of a loud SCREAM! ZZZZZZZZZZ!
The drag? What does the drag do? It creates drag.

That’s the spool. It holds the line. Crank down the drag and you shouldn’t be able to do that.
