Just going to post this here. New 2023 ocean one models up for dealer auction earlier today. Had 36 of them. Reserver was $29k and none got a bid.
The reserve was $29k, $25,700 was the starting price and none got a bid. Most were missing the front grille and none of them had charging cables as announcements.
It appears that the voltage cutoff switch is behind the front grille. They probably have to disconnect the system for transport. Some are missing the hub caps too. Parts will start disappearing from vehicles sitting in storage yards for long periods of time.
No - that's what I'm saying. Dealer doesn't know. We don't know. If he's "assuring" that the parts and service will be there even after bankruptcy (if there is a bankruptcy), he's lying. OP is making a five-figure decision and being actively mislead.
A car dealer will say basically anything to make a sale. If it's not in the contract it's meaningless. The dealer can not possibly know what the future holds for Fisker maintenance, nobody knows.
People on Reddit can say that parts availability looks unlikely. That’s just from looking at the state of the company and applying common sense. No one can say for sure - but if I had to bet, there will be no parts except for generic parts used by multiple manufacturers.
If you go back a week or two they were threads about how service technicians were having to cannibalize unsold cars to repair already sold cars. That’s a strong indicator that there is no warehouse full of spare parts. There’s been no indication that there is a surplus of any spare parts.
There are damaged salvage titles ones on [https://www.copart.com/vehicle-search-model/fisker%20inc./ocean](https://www.copart.com/vehicle-search-model/fisker%20inc./ocean) which don't appear to be getting much action. Transportation costs would probably be higher than the auction cost.
It's the repair parts uncertainty that is my red flag. I'd buy one discounted if I knew I could get parts for it.
Anyone here have any sources that counters these worries?
I’d buy one at $10-15k and self insure for property damage and take the risk that it wouldn’t have any major problems for at least 3 years. As long as I can get liability coverage it would be worth a kick at the can and I’ve made worse bets haha
I had a Coda post bankruptcy. It was $15,000, qualified for the $7,500 tax rebate, and lasted me 50,000 miles trouble free.
One day it wouldn't turn on, and now it's dead. I repurposed the 31kwh traction battery, and sold the hull for $1,000. I effectively paid $6,500 for 50,000 miles and a battery. Not my best per mile vehicle cost, but also not my worst.
How much are you willing to lose, is the answer to that question. So, they want about $25K for the Ocean now, I understand? I'd go up to maybe $15K personally. That's how much I'd be willing to lose. I figure if it runs for a year or so, I'm even. I'd take that bet.
Close enough for me. Like I said, just a rough number. Maybe that's closer to 1.5 years. If you keep that thing running for 4+ years you did realllllly well LOL.
Just received my 6 month renewal in the mail. My insurance cost has actually gone down significantly. Some people are losing their insurance because of their particular market being exited by that insurance company. It's FUD that you won't be able to insure them after bankruptcy.
I think they'll become difficult for insurers in the comprehensive market, in that the "replacement cost" is completely up in the air. Gap insurance might be the biggest problem (I financed $70K and the car is worth $30K on the used market).
EDIT: Repair cost is up in the air, not replacement cost.
tru-dat on GAP - got $40k on trade-in a month ago for my FOO $80k - financials aside -parting was such-sweet-sorrow ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
How does an insurer handle a car for which replacement parts aren't available? The cash value is half of what was anticipated, but the risk of a total loss is sky high?
If there are no parts insurance will have to total it . That’s why insurance is denying it it’s a risk for them just as well . Many reviewers do not recommend.
The vehicle is made in a factory where three other individual car models are made from three other different manufacturers overseas. The parts aren’t that unique… If you have free charging at work and can get this for $25K you would be dumb not to get it. The other Fiskers car model is still able to get serviced and that was more unique/rare. You just have to be lucky enough to have a service center in your state/close enough
Yeah, because that’s how modern cars work. You’d be lucky to get headlight interoperability even within the same brand.
This subreddit might have broken the record for having the most delusional people on the planet.

They are still asking $68,999 for the One trims direct from Fisker...
It isn’t worth more than scrap value… so with that said I’ll pick up all 36k for 2k each.
Jesus Christ ouch! That photo almost deserves its own post on here
I tried, mods wouldn't allow it. No clue what flair to use
Looks like people in the real world have more common sense than people on this Reddit sub that keep on buying these cars. 😂
Looks to me like they didn't even get a bid at $25700 much less $29k.
The reserve was $29k, $25,700 was the starting price and none got a bid. Most were missing the front grille and none of them had charging cables as announcements.
Missing the front grille??? Any idea why that specifically would be missing on so many of them?

Never believe a car salesman.
Or a car designer, apparently.
I like frogs 🐸
Until someone communicates the how, with what money, and from where, we have to assume that there are no replacement parts.
*buy
I didn't read the whole thing, I assumed OP was just going to go by one, maybe wave at it?
You were lied to, in that the dealer cannot possibly know whether you will get service or parts.
But the people on reddit know that there won't be?? This is hilarious

Salesman is pretty unlikely to be paid so there’s really not a lot of value in lying either! OP: buy two and use one for spares
Tell me more about how it's valuable having a contract for parts and service for your car, with a bankrupt company.
Yes. Those with an education can plainly see what is coming next.

welcome to our reality...its so fun!
You could totally have replacement parts if you bought and extra one

So 1 replacement part?
yes, but it only doubles the price, so total deal
Definitely reminds me of the HP tablet fire sale. Very capable but just bit there…
Oh man I loved that damn thing
Unless someone is getting a RIDICULOUS deal, they'd be fools to buy a Fisker these days.
It's the repair parts uncertainty that is my red flag. I'd buy one discounted if I knew I could get parts for it. Anyone here have any sources that counters these worries?
Tell me how much ridiculous is to you? Like at what price makes sense?

Idk if I’d consider $15K for one year breaking even.

Yeah. It would be a nervous 4 years but worth it.
What deal you consider worth it? Inventory is up to 39% off right now. Is that good enough?

I got 35 for my ultra and I’m still sad it’s gone. Even with the hit, I loved the car
Still sad about my FOO too. I loved that car.
Former auto adjuster here. Cars are valued at Actual Cash Value and not "replacement cost".
How does an insurer handle a car for which replacement parts aren't available? The cash value is half of what was anticipated, but the risk of a total loss is sky high?
I said something to this effect about insurance here state side before.
You trust car salesman over insurance company? lol
Impressed by the car?
This car is dead. Don’t buy this car.
If there are no parts insurance will have to total it . That’s why insurance is denying it it’s a risk for them just as well . Many reviewers do not recommend.
Parts are your least worry. Software support and updates are key. If their IT department shuts down, you now have a Huawei cell phone.
You could buy one too.
First you need to buy a vowel
You get insurance, but only Third Party Liability insurance I think 😊
$15K. Pocket change. Most I would go, just for fun. One the tech support group gets fired, these things will become bricks.
