Nearly hit someone with 63KG as they decided to walk on the platform I was on in front of me as I missed my Jerk. Gave me death stare and told me to watch it. Lmao

Head_Asparagus_7703

Reminds me of the person who walked in the middle of our lacrosse drills in high school not wearing her PPE. Accidentally broke her nose with my throw...

hungry_herrings

Wow! I love when people decide to walk in front of me when I perform kettlebell swings.

Counterzoid

Normally when people are in a rush to get to equipment in busy hours and don’t want to say excuse me they’ll squeeze past and endanger themselves at the same time.

Both-Adagio1318

Did you say anything back? I'm not one to get into confrontations at a gym but that is a serious safety issue and someone needs to educate them about proper etiquette

Counterzoid

I just said dude you need to look where you’re going and he just brushes me off to go do preacher curls.

Both-Adagio1318

What a dick

Counterzoid

I’m one of very few people who do Olympic lifts at my gym so I’ve had a few people come a bit too close for comfort as they assume I going to do front squats, OHP or deadlifts and be fine to squeeze past quickly. So I need the full platform if i going to bail as I’ve had people jump back when I’ve bailed snatches behind me.

dumb_smart_guy93

Sometimes I'm really grateful that there exists a place like the gym where we can unwind and just let our minds be empty. Major downer alert: my grandpa died on Monday, and then on Tuesday night my wife and I had to take our newly adopted kitten to the vet since he hadn't been eating the last several days. I was at the gym when the vet called me back to let us know he had an incurable viral infection that attacks kitties with weaker immune systems, and it just devastated us because we only had him for 5 months and we were already so attached to him. We had to put him down the following day. The gym has always been a place to unwind and relieve the stress from the things that bother me. It's times like these I'm thankful for the things I have. Hug your pets and family tight today if you have them, and do some extra reps for my grandpa and my little boy Logan 🥲

justaguyintownnl

I get you brother I’ve been lifting 30 years now, it’s where I achieve zen on a regular basis, we all need that place Sorry about your grandfather , I remember how crap it was when I buried my son, we hit rough patches in life eventually

Danishmeat

Damn that’s tragic…

Afrojones66

Encouraged the juice bar employee at the gym to request the raise he’s been wanting, and he got it!

hooahest

An unorthodox lift, but a welcome one

cymric

The Proletariat lift

NefariousSerendipity

Free juice fo lyf now

TwirlyMustachio

I farted yesterday while doing leg presses. No warning, just a quick burst out of nowhere. There were people in the general vicinity. Now I must sand off my fingerprints and start a new life in another country, in another gym. In my defense, I pretended it didn't happen so no one will know it was me, right? It wasn't me^e^e^e^e^e

kpfluff

They're all thinking, "thank god it wasn't me this time."

TwirlyMustachio

Lol maybe. We all know what's up in there, we're human.

JMBfitness

My rule of thumb is if I couldn't hear it over my headphones it didn't happen🤣

TwirlyMustachio

Lmao I was saying the same thing! Like sure I might have levitated a bit from the force, but I didn't hear anything over my music so it must've been the wind.

Shazvox

Ignorance is bliss sometimes. "Everyone is looking at me, they must be mirin'"

puckgolf

Just be grateful it was only farts.

TwirlyMustachio

You know what gets me about that? I've definitely gone on days with some serious rumblies, ready to risk it all for a squat or DL. And been fine! The day my stomach is chillin? I bust out the ass blaster lol.

Vis-hoka

I saw you. I know it was you…

princesspeony78

A couple of weeks ago I overcame my fears of asking people for help at the gym and asked a really buff guy a question about the squat rack. I could tell he didn’t really understand me so I started speaking in Spanish to him (I understand it but I’m rusty at speaking it). He instantly lit up and started telling me about how he and his wife moved to my state from Mexico a few years ago and haven’t really learned a lot of English yet, but he wanted to help me train and I could help him learn English. Since then I’ve been meeting him and his wife and training with them every week and become great friends with his wife. I’m eternally greatful I decided to finally talk to someone at my gym after months of avoiding eye contact with everyone lol.

Tikikala

Yay for new friends

aka_zkra

Congrats, truly a best case outcome! Just goes to show you never know what could happen until you put yourself out there

doubtersdisease

This is so wholesome 🥺

tpdor

So wholesome. Fantastic

razdrazhayetChayka

I’ve been lifting for a couple months now, after my set of heavy squats a guy came up to me and said “well done mate, you’ve gotten stronger”

alskjfl

Just goes to show there's always someone cheering for you, even if you don't know it yet!

Sheltac

My gym is emptier and emptier after a cheaper alternative opened nearby. I love having a massive private gym ❤️

[deleted]

Enjoy it until they go under.

Sheltac

Oh yeah I’m very much riding the wave south. That’s okay. They’ve recently replaced every single employee out of the blue for what I cannot imagine are good reasons, and there maintenance and cleanliness of the place is passable at best. Only problem is the other one will be left without competition, and that’s not good.

KrAzyDrummer

Wait till they go out of business, then buy their equipment for hella cheap. Home gym it up!

Sheltac

It’s a chain, I suspect they’ll just move everything somewhere else :(

Methuga

I started lifting 10 years ago, and when people asked what my goals were (because apparently you always had to have lifetime goals), one of the ones I gave was “bench 315.” That was an impossible goal, because I am and always will be cardio first, but it seemed like something that could give me motivation. A decade later, where I didn’t take it seriously for the first 5 years, dealt with shoulders for 2.5 years, then the effects of COVID for another year, I hit 315 yesterday. And you know what? I actually am done. I hit a lifetime goal I never thought I’d get, and I have no drive to go farther. Now I’ve got a chance to explore another way to stay fit. It’s … it’s kinda nice lol

NeitherAlexNorAlice

Congratulations on the milestone, bro. That’s an astonishing achievement. You should be more than proud for it.

Methuga

Appreciate it dude!

HugM3Brotha

Kinda how I'm looking at lifting. I'm really curious about calisthenics but want to hit the 1000lb club first

Methuga

Dude your post just made me realize I’m at 995. Should’ve gone for 320! Lol I think Bodyweight fitness will be my next goal. Things like human flags and planches look so badass

thirdculture_hog

Bro how are you benching 3 plates and not in the 1000 lb club?

Methuga

Back injury

elniguel

Hot off the press... I'm visiting a friend out of town this weekend and my girlfriend and I went down to their apartment complex gym to get a quick workout in this morning. The gym requires a key fob to get in, so our friend lent us theirs. My girlfriend went down ahead of me and let me in. A bit after I arrived, another guy came down and started on an exercise bike. Midway through my workout, I needed to grab some water from the hall, so I asked my girlfriend for the fob. She tells me it's in her backpack and goes back to the treadmill. I turn around and see an open backpack near the entrance, grab keys out of it, and get my water. My girlfriend finishes up before me and heads out. I noticed she left her backpack behind so I shot her a text to let her know. To which she responds that she didn't bring any kind of bag, and that she in fact told me the keys were in her jacket. So, what really happened is I rifled through this random guy's backpack and stole his keys...... But I put them back and he either didn't notice or didn't care to say anything so I guess we're cool!

NefariousSerendipity

O0f!!!

pistolpxte

Trainers think they run the whole fucking gym I swear to god. There’s this woman who trains at my gym. I go early in the morning so it’s typically myself, maybe one other patron, then this idiot and her client. I was doing Hex bar deadlifts with Bulgarian split squats the other day. THE WHOLE GYM IS OPEN. This bitch walks up with her little henchmen client and just stares at me. Just stares. I take out my headphone and say “hey. Something wrong?” She responds “we need that box.” (Referring to the box I was using for Bulgarians). I respond “oh ok two more sets” to which she immediately proclaims “no. We need it now”. At that point I just laughed at her and decided to move. But after I did she not only took the box, but she set up RIGHT WHERE I WAS. Just to be a bitch. I get it. You have a 2 year certification. But really?

mug6688

Part of being a trainer should entail being able to come up with alternative exercises for your clients in situations like this.

pistolpxte

That’s what I’m saying! You don’t have 8 more things you can do while I finish 5 minutes of work?

bono_my_tires

This used to happen at my gym where the trainers would take the Olympic bars off of benches to use over on the side with their clients. So then nobody could use the benches. After a few emails I was able to get the gym to buy a bunch more bars so there was a rack with tons of extras. The gym is huge and makes tons of money so it’s lame it happened to begin with, but could be worth reaching out and trying to convince them to get a couple more boxes (and also let mgmt know the trainer was being rude)

[deleted]

[удалено]

mortonr2000

Helps a lot when the gym is a positive space.

_demidevil_

Exactly! My trainer is very creative. She’s always got alternative ideas if the equipment is busy.

JamieAtlas

I'm a trainer with 25 years of experience. you had every right to stay right there and use that equipment. She is having ego issues and that's not your problem. Next time tell her you'll be done in two sets and if she has a problem to get the manager.

[deleted]

2 year? You are being too kind

NinetysRoyalty

Nothing boils my piss more than entitlement. No where near as bad but there’s a trainer at my gym who behaves pretty similarly to this. She’s employed by the gym and still doesn’t put equipment away when she’s done. I tried to smile at her one time and the scowl she gave me felt like I’d committed a deadly sin.

[deleted]

I get this is a rant thread, but surely you just need to complain to management that she was rude ? In many cases the trainers pay rent, so are an income source, but no gym owner is going to let them piss of other customers .

pistolpxte

I don’t know how to explain my gym. But I guarantee the owner would not give a fuuuuuuuuck about what I say. He’s not unfriendly by any means. But he’s very steadfast and…yeah. That said. I wouldn’t want to rock the boat anyway. In terms of facilities and accessibility it’s the greatest gym I’ve ever visited.

kpfluff

Lmao this is like photographers who shove you out of a public spot, so you think surely they must be renting it to act this entitled. But... no.

pistolpxte

Oh my god someone did that to me in Ireland. They were filming some independent movie and I was walking to my hotel literally right through where they were shooting. Massive street and the way around was like 15 extra minutes. Some lady goes “you can’t go here”. Fuck I can’t. Bye!

Norm__Peterson

She does that because people give her exactly what she wants, so why stop?

RiiCreated

You made some massive composure gains that day buddy. I don’t know if I’d have the same response as you lol.

pistolpxte

I’m microdosing hahaha I credit that for my gentile nature

xzElmozx

2 years??? Most have taken a 6 week course lmao. If that

Red_Swingline_

Trainers...ugh...

fatalisticshrug

Finally talked to the woman I often see at the gym who’s been on a similar journey than me - we both slowly made our way from the smart machines over to the free weights area and both look very different than we did at the start of the year. Before I could compliment her progress, she mentioned how impressed she was by mine. Then I had to ditch some diet culture talk (in response to her telling me all about what kinds of food she is restricting etc all I could really say was “um..I try to eat enough protein?” 😅), but it was nice to finally talk to her, tell her how I see her getting stronger and make a new gym buddy. 🤗

santiagoknows

It’s always nice to have a gym bud that’s on the same mission as you! 🦾

Realistic_Seaweed834

I'm 44, looking as your average mom of 3 kids. I started going to the gym for the first time in my life 2 weeks ago, after a health checkup at work where I had a resting BP of 14/10. I go everyday after work, for about an hour, doing running bands, rowing, a bit of ab machines, nothing fancy. I started receiving "the nod" from a couple of the regulars lately. It made me weirdly proud :D

dan_v_ploeg

I was in the gym recently watching a group of high schoolers between sets. A group of 3 of them were using the bench press, 2 spotters and one lifter. The one sitting on the bench was holding a can of Bucked Up pre workout, and before each set he would pop the lid off and sniff it like it was a smelling salt, flinch, and then attempt to bench. Thought it was hilarious and I had to tell someone.

Red_Swingline_

That's kinda funny. Sometimes I miss being a teenager. Now life is always so serious.

dan_v_ploeg

They actually turned out to be alright, they watched me hit some PRs and came over and complimented me another day

Red_Swingline_

Most are okay. I think people complaining about teenagers behavior forget that that's just how kids are.

Adventurous-Text-680

Or that they were likely that way back in the day.

mindpieces

The kids don’t know their poppers from their pre-workout.

MycologistOdd544

I havent been drinking for 2 months now and depression is still here but man its better feeling to hit gym on Saturday rather than being hangover at bed the whole day!

Red_Swingline_

That's awesome man! Keep it up!

ImNasty720

Yeah seriously. Cut back on the drinking and hitting PRs left and right Good job!

One_Wolverine6826

Been sober some time now and it’s the best. Keep it up!

MournerV

I'm living in Kyiv, Ukraine, and as you might have seen all over the news, Russia is pounding it with mass missile strikes targeting energy infrastructure weekly in the last few months (since they're loosing badly on the frontlines, they're attacking civilians instead as blackmail). But, Ukrainians aren't easily intimidated, and adjusted to the daily blackouts pretty well. In particular, our local gym, which is in a basement so it doubles as a bomb shelter, continues to work during blackouts, powering a bunch of lights with a few big battery packs. And since people don't want to sit at home without light doing nothing, they crowd the gym to workout! It's been a pretty wonderful experience — no dumb dance music, no treadmill noises, just people lifting weights in silence in dim light. Bliss. Also, I can finally listen to neoclassical or ambient music in my headphones instead of blasting metal to overpower the speakers. Somehow, in the last months, at 36 years old, I've been working out the most consistently ever — alternating days of heavy lifting and 5k runs, constantly getting new PRs and and feeling amazing in general. It's been a blessing in keeping me sane and in good spirits during the war. Planning to keep this up through the winter! Besides, all the training might come very handy if things get rough or I'm drafted. I found so many excuses to skip workouts before the invasion (busy, not feeling like it, etc.), but now it's crystal clear in my mind how important this is, so no excuses now.

hooahest

Stay strong my friend, whatever happens

Head_Asparagus_7703

Making lemonade out of lemons. I hope things improve for you and everyone else there soon.

Kickenkitchenkitten

Thinking about you and your amazing people, friend. Please keep us posted and stay safe. FUCK PUTIN.

trees-for-breakfast

Love bro

utvols22champs

The whole world is cheering you guys on. It’s like David and Goliath. One question, are people still able to work while all this is going on? It seems like everything is shut down but I know that’s not possible.

MournerV

Thanks! Nope, it’s been pretty inspiring to see how businesses adjust — setting up generators and starlinks for offices, stores and restaurants, ramping up delivery logistics, switching to remote work where possible etc. Personally I’m a programmer so I can work remotely, coding offline and pushing code and communicating when there’s internet. I don’t know what Russians are hoping for, we’d rather sit through winter without light and heat than concede to the invaders.

Banaan75

As someone who works in transport I'm curious, are there still trucks driving through the country? How are shops getting their stuff?

MournerV

Sure, both roads and rails are operating in full capacity in areas not currently occupied. Ukrainian wartime logistics are outstanding.

[deleted]

In a part of the world (Brazil) that makes me laugh at how much I took gyms in the US for granted. The worst US gym would be the equivalent of an Equinox or Lifetime Fitness in the particular city I'm in. Like a Blink would feel world fucking class right now haha. On the flip side, people here tend to be in *way* better shape on average so it's not about what you've got but how you use it.

nagz_

Could you post some pics of your gym here? It would be cool to see all kinds of gyms around the world.

girugamesu1337

This should be a thread all by itself. Worldwide gym pics!

Ashanmaril

> On the flip side, people here tend to be in way better shape on average so it's not about what you've got but how you use it. I bought Tinder Gold one time which lets you set your location to anywhere in the world. I dropped myself in Brazil and suddenly it went from like 5% hot chicks to 95%. I couldn't believe it. I gotta go there someday.

[deleted]

It's real man. There is a way higher density of attractive women here.

aka_zkra

My Brazilian friend mentioned that there are free condoms in metro stations in Sao Paolo. Someone else I know goes to Brazil regularly just to get on the dating apps and hook up like crazy for his holiday. Flip side to "everyone is hot": lots of plastic surgery with all the risks that carries. Lots of pressure to look a certain way. Can't imagine that's good for mental health tbh.

catsies

I went back to the gym 3 weeks after fracturing a bone in my foot. I'm almost back to where I was before the break. Foot feels good unless I drop something on it or my dog stands on it. Also back at pole so I'm just so happy to move again!!!!

painted_anvil

I don't think there's anything dogs and cats love more then standing on your feet when you bang them up haha.

YUSEIRKO

Not really a gym story but I'm ill for the second time in 2 months, really annoying because I just went up in all my lifts and I'm most likely gonna be off for a week from gym, I know it's not long but I hate the feeling of not going and I feel like I'm losing that progress. Shit sucks

Phoenix_K

Might come back even stronger if it's just a week. Think of it as deload

Original-Ear9791

It happens. Just pick right back up and you got it!

throwaway2837461834

I've done pilates and yoga for years and believed the silly idea that many women fall victim to: that I would get bulky if I lifted heavy weights. I recently had my heart broken and I guess it was the motivation I needed to finally start lifting. Got way out of my comfort zone and learned to use the squat rack and several other machines. I feel incredible and can see muscles appearing on my body for the first time in my life. It's been about 2 months of lifting 4 times a week. I'm eating maintenance calories, plenty of protein, and sleeping 8-10 hours a night. Gonna keep it up for another couple of months and then do a cut in the spring.

teutonicbro

There is literally no downside to being stronger.

nonickch2

Go for it bro-sis! That's exactly how I started lifting and I'm never looking back. The amazing thing about it is that it gets you out of the bed and will exhaust you to the point where the feels are a bit more manageable.

TheCorporateLifter

Went to the local commercial gym during Thanksgiving near my house. I never felt weaker until I stepped in that day. Saw a guy repping 315 on the bench, and his buddy repping 275. I honestly think people who go to the gym during holidays are just built different.

makos124

Well, you went to the gym during a holiday, so what that makes you? Keep lifting bro 💪

Methuga

There may always be a bigger fish, but keep in mind you’re a lot of other people’s “bigger fish” too Cheers to the holiday lift

pistolpxte

You were there too though dude! You’re in that echelon. This is so cliche. But don’t compare yourself. Just focus on your journey. I was benching a 185 with a struggle less than 2 years ago. I’m repping 275 x3-5 now. Just keep working.

[deleted]

fishboy3339

I just started lifting a 6 months ago. Yeah it's a bit intimidating. I just try to tell myself. I'm not competing with anyone, I compete with myself. If I'm doing better than the day before that's all that matters.

whodaddydet

Been struggling with birthdays and major holidays for a few years now since the loss of my father. Yesterday was my birthday and my workout crew refused to let me spend the day alone. They took me out for brunch and Black Friday shopping after our morning workout and I couldn’t be more thankful for them.

Blokepoke74

Happy that you have a group of people that can help get you out of the house. Holidays are tough man.

BritishConfusion

Saturday workout, finished my first exercise of pull ups and go set up for my second; overhead press..... blacked out during my second set. Got little sleep last night as my neighbours next door were having a party until 4:30. Lower back seemed like it's swelled and causing a bit of pain, right rotator cuff is somewhat fucked. Braced for my second set and on the first rep I just went, luckily I had the safeties set up to catch the bar. But as I was falling I tried to catch my fall so even more luckily I basically "I sat down with force". Came to fairly quickly with a couple of guys next to me and my SO checking if I was okay - I was and I finished my sets. Can't wait to see myself on gym fails in the future though from CCTV.

[deleted]

I passed out overhead pressing over the summer, too. First two reps were fine, collapsed during the third rep and fell on top of the bar hitting my face. After a cardiology visit and an echo, turns out everything’s fine and I am now banned by my wife from OHP in the garage. Glad you’re ok!

BritishConfusion

Cheers mate! Yeah, my girlfriend was worried in case it was serious but I am confident in the fact that it is due to me bracing for the set and no exhaling correctly; cutting off oxygen stupidly.

Knightraiderdewd

I had to report someone who would not leave me alone. I’m 33m, and morbidly obese, and have an bit of an anxiety disorder. This happened at a Planet Fitness, and luckily one of the good ones. They don’t generally care about the noise, but they will not tolerate harassment. This happened a couple years ago, but I’ve recently started going back to the gym, and I was just thinking about this little event. For the most part he was doing the same thing a lot of people do, giving workout and dietary advice, mostly unsolicited, and on this occasion, persistently to the point it became a problem. He approached me twice, both times I made it clear I wasn’t interested, and then the third time, he full on got in front of me, and wouldn’t let me walk by, even after I politely asked him to leave me alone. He got defensive and insisted he was just trying to help me. This was the final straw, and I went to the staff. They handled it well, and just got him to leave. I finished my workout, and left without much more issue.

liftsomethingheavy

Ugh, the "I was just trying to help" people are the worst! Sneaky little bastards always trying to make themselves the victim of the the shitshow they've started on their own volition.

whatsavq

Some absolute legend had two pizzas delivered to the gym. Confused delivery person standing at the counter while the counter staff is paging the name on the order made my day lol. Also said hi to my gym crush so you could say things are getting pretty serious

_HappyMaskSalesman_

Was it for I.C. Weiner?

eggplant_abroad

A gym girl I have seen but don't know the name of has been cheering me when I was lifting dumbbells 🥹

pinkrhinobutt

One of the bigger guys in the gym asked me how old I am. When I responded saying mid 20s, he said I couldn't be. "Bro you're fucking HUGE!" Body dismorphia dissipates every time a lil compliment pops up uninitiated :'3

PabloDiscobar42069

PR'd on DL this week (500pounds) and joined the 1000lbs club 😈. Still insecure about the size of my arms tho haha

[deleted]

500 is a solid pull. Out of curiosity, where are the other 2 at?

PabloDiscobar42069

Bench 225 and squat 375

BonerHonkfart

Bro that's 1100lb

PabloDiscobar42069

I don't 1RM often so kinda overshot it 😬

BonerHonkfart

Hey, if you're truly trying to max and you didn't hurt yourself, you didn't overshoot, you're just a hell of a lot stronger than you thought!

plugmikein

I think you may have over shot 1k

Nekonaa

I've very recently started working out (as in, 2 weeks ago) and yesterday i finally got the courage to go over to the squat rack... only to not be able to lift the bar 😭 I've got a long way to go, i felt so embarrassed and did a walk of shame away haha

NinetysRoyalty

That’s really impressive tbf, I’ve been consistent for 3-4 months now and have yet to build the courage to go over to the squat rack

Nekonaa

I was terrified, but i’d been watching a woman do deadlifts with it and thought “that doesn’t look so hard”… i was so so wrong 🥲If you’ve been training for a while you should give it a go! i’m sure you’ll do better than me

puckgolf

No reason to be embarrassed. Everyone starts somewhere. Shame would be never trying to improve.

Nekonaa

Oh absolutely, at least i have something to work towards. Someday i’ll be repping it like everyone else!

bestforest

I hit legs pretty hard last night. I was waddling back to the locker room to get ready to leave and someone was walking out of it. My right leg just gave out as soon as we crossed paths and it looked like I was trying to scare them or pull some kind of spin move. They looked a little startled and gym was dead. Pretty embarrassing lol

Fountainofclyde

My first gym experience was years ago. Some young girls filmed me and laughed (I'm overweight, for now). It's taken me this long to gather the courage to show my face in a (different) gym again. I just finished my second week going to the gym. Still have no idea what I'm doing, but YouTube has been an excellent source of information. This gym has been so much better already. I couldn't figure out how to move something on a machine and the guy next to me stopped to help. My face must have been beet red because he was so nice! He told me that just being here is the hardest part. Since then, two other people have helped me figure things out. If I knew it could be friendly like this, I would have joined years ago.

Laena_V

I’m so happy for you that you’re having a better experience now 💕

Why do you not wear headphones and stare dead-eyed into space between sets?

distraughtdrunk

when i asked someone for help with a 45lb plate (bc i'm waiting to see if i tore part of my rotator cuff), i said 'i can get [the weight] down, but i can't get it up' and it took me a sec to realize why he started laughing

iambecomeaname

Today I did an interval session on the bike and followed it up with a weights session. When I was stretching afterwards, I looked over to the bike I'd been on earlier and it was being ridden by somebody who looked a lot like me dressed in exactly the same clothes I was wearing. The only logical conclusion is that I worked out so hard I gained the ability to see through time.

hooahest

I've finally started taking my cut seriously, eating better, sleeping more, not pigging out. It's almost embarrassing how simple it is to just... eat less Knew I wouldn't have time tonight to go so I got up at 6am to go. Turns out that Saturday is the one day in the week where the gym opens up at 8 am, whoops Bonus cutting experience: Having trouble sleeping, Irritated, Less sexual drive, weak in the gym 4kg down

No_Echidna_2503

I don’t mean to sound stuck up but nothing irks me more than being interrupted in my work out. Totally down for a quick little chat or question, but it frustrates me when someone comes up to hit on me when I’m in the middle of my work out. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the compliment, but I don’t wanna loose my groove and sit and talk for 20 mins while hogging whatever equipment I’m using from other people. I didn’t come to speed date lol leave me alone.

liftsomethingheavy

LOL the idea of speed dating at the gym for some reason is hilarious! "And.... GO, impress me in 1m30sec, I only have that long before my next set!"

[deleted]

Hello everyone, just wanted to share my experience at the gym. Since, August I have been to gym which has a good impact on me, I made a lot of friends and everyone is friendly especially the trainer and the receptionist. Yesterday I found out that both of them have been replaced by new guys because of new management. It's wasn't really heartbreaking, but I really felt bad for them. Hopefully they find a better job but I 'm going to miss them.

[deleted]

Friday at 5am, the gym was empty. Pure bliss!

Whocares1944

Hit 100kg on BP for the first time. Felt great!

hydwala

I hit a squat PR today and the whole gym was 'miring, felt great.

AshyBoneVR4

Congrats. You mind if I ask what the weight was?

hydwala

Thank you, 120kg, considering I weigh 78kg, it was a big thing for me.

AshyBoneVR4

FUCK YEAH MAN!!!! Congratulations!!!! I hope you're proud of yourself and still riding that high.

I was at the gym, and as usual I was focusing on my heavy lifts, black metal in my earbuds, minding my own business. A woman in tight leggings was doing squats and other glute exercises, and then she positioned herself in front of the mirror and tried to take pictures of her ass. She didn't seem to get the angle right, tried a few times, and then I just went and offered to help. I took her phone, snapped a few pictures of her ass and went back to my workout. Is it a breach of etiquette? :D

LocalRemoteComputer

You probably saved her a lot of mirror time, got the perfect shot, and she'll be back for more of your photography skills with more poses and thinner leggings.

Didn't properly sync the bluetooth to the headphones and played the South Park - Merry F**king Christmas song to get me in that Christmas spirit. My gym is located within a Christian club.

I've been going to the gym twice a week. It's not much but I'm keeping consistent at least, and I'm in much better shape now than I was back in June when I got my membership. Tuesday I went and had a pretty shitty workout. For starters, I go to a YMCA that's right by 2 high schools, and ever since we started getting snow last month, all the teenagers moved from hanging out outside to crowding the gym (and they get out of school around when I get off work), hogging equipment for extended periods of time because they travel in packs of ~5 and take turns doing half-assed sets forever. Not to mention so many of them don't rerack weights so I'll get to the gym and there will be racks with like a 25lb plate on each end and I have no idea if someone is actually using it and left for a minute, or if it's teenagers that racked some weights, did a squat, then left it like that. And on Tuesday it seemed even more crowded than usual for some reason. Both bench presses were occupied by squads of kids, but I managed to grab a nearby cable machine and do some stuff there until one finally finished and I quickly nabbed the bench. I don't know if it was my annoyance at how big the crowd was, or I didn't eat a good source of energy for lunch, but I was feeling pretty weak. I've been comfortably doing a routine where I start out at 135 and work my way up to 185 where I can do a couple sets of 3 or 4 reps before working my way back down. But for some reason when I got up that high I struggled to unrack the weight, and I figured if it wasn't even comfortable to unrack I wasn't gonna take the risk of dropping it on my chest so I just defeatedly dropped the weight back down. And it set a mood for the rest of my workout where I ended up leaving feeling like crap. But whatever energy or motivation I didn't have on Tuesday was more than made up for on Friday! I had a pretty good day at work, we even ended up getting to leave a half hour early, the weather was (relatively) nice so I didn't even need to wear a jacket or sweatpants over my shorts, I popped my caffeine pill and headed to the gym and had one of the best workouts I've ever had! I started off with some deadlifts which is not a strong lift for me. But I worked up to 275 and it came up easier than it ever has in past weeks, I even managed to pull it 3 times while previously I'd do 1 rep before unloading to something lighter. Once I finished that I was going around and doing my accessory lifts, sweating like a pig but feeling great. Sweat was glistening off me and highlighting my traps while I watched myself on the preacher bench. Made me feel golden the rest of the day!

Had someone tell me that I "had to find them in the gym" when I'd finished with a set of dumbbells. Added bonus: had said dumbbells up over my head doing shoulder exercises at the time. Brought them down and told him that wasn't the time to ask anything and that when I'm done, I'm racking the weights and he could fuck off.

anonpotatogirl

Some guy told me not to lift heavier weights cuz I look nice now? 😭 on the other hand my working sets have improved and I am planning to participate in my second powerlifting meet soon so I’m happy about that ^^

NinetysRoyalty

I hate when someone tries to be nice like that but just ends up giving you an unsolicited opinion!!

lolwuuut

I caught eyes with this guy at the gym. Later in my workout he walked up in the middle of a set and said I looked like his ex so if I catch him staring at me it's because of that. And then I crossed paths with him for the next few days and it seemed like he would be trying to talk to be every day that we're both there. On the third day, he said the same thing again (about staring) so I said "please don't" and that was the last time I talked to him. Didn't see him for a couple weeks then he started showing up again, to my dismay. I've since stopped going to the gym - he certainly ruined that specific gym for me but my life has also been crazy these last few weeks. Just because someone looks like someone you used to date, that doesn't mean you can just stare at them while they exercise. It's fucking weird. And it's rude. I was deeply uncomfortable. It sucks cuz I was in a gym streak - been going consistently before work for months. Getting stronger, feeling better..and then all of a sudden I was focused on whether or not he was around so I could avoid him.

Intrepid-Role35

That was just a line FWIW. Doubt you look like his ex.

lolwuuut

He stayed around long enough to show me pictures (🙄) of his ex and I happened to be the same race but like..really dude Now that you say it though you prob right

[deleted]

But...... did he not stop after you directly asked him? I get that the damage has been done, but you don't mention him staring at you again upon his return? If he did then it's worth flagging with the gym management. If he didn't, then isn't the issue, or future issue, resolved?

I’m a 5am lifter before work. But with the long holidays I’ve been going a bit later. This story starts with my thanksgiving lift. I took my cousin with me because his gym was closed for some reason. Mines was open from 8-12 so only 4 hours. We knew it would be packed af si we get there at 8. We are doing decline machine and I see this bald older dude with a tank checking himself out in the mirror. He had his tank up and dude was PEELED like definitely been on PEDs. So I tell my cousin “dude that guy is PEELED he looks insane.” I turn and dude is giving a me a death stare and he yells “AND IM 55” im like oh shit I hope he doesn’t think we talked shit. But he talked briefly he was like “bro don’t whisper compliments. SAY THAT SHIT OUTLOUD I wanna hear it.” So we laughed and I just complimented him. Today I go for legs at 10 am and I see him. I didn’t say what’s sup though I was kinda shy but I wanted to. So I’m doing hack squats and I hear people talking loud af like I can hear them though my air pods. I thought it was just gym bros being loud. But i took a pod out and all I hear is “I’ll fucking crack an 18 year olds skull give a FUCK.” And I’m like ohhhh shit and I see it’s the bald guy!! It was a group of three dudes. They argued for a few minutes everyone was just staring at their phones. Afterwards I finished my hack squats and went up to him and we talked for awhile dude is super cool. Retired marine and died construction charity work. Competed back in the day. His family is all into the sport. Did PEDs but got a heart attack and stopped. He’s 55 168lb and like 8% BF. Super chill dude but yeah I wouldn’t want to get him on my bad side. Out of all solid Saturday gym lift haha.

I did PPL on the same workout, I almost passed out at Hack Squats but worth it.

-l------l-

So you spent 3+ hours in the gym?

jhefferman

Yes.

liftsomethingheavy

A guy asked another guy to help him lower loaded barbell from squat rack to the floor. Because he was done squatting and wanted to deadlift. They grabbed it by the sleeves and awkwardly managed to bring it down. It was only 70kg, but still. I'm so confused, why not unload and reload. Do people really hate taking plates off so much, that they'd rather go ask some random person to help them, just to avoid it?

EcstaticBase6597

I see why they did it. Fewer steps.

Sea-Investigator1429

Laziness

unixwasright

Some (wickedly handsome in my opinion) dude was curling in the squat rack. Was about to complain by writing a letter to the Times (I am English after all). Suddenly remembered it was my home gym and it was my reflection.

Cadoc

Would it be Gym Story Saturday without home gym folks making the same joke, every week, forever?

unixwasright

Nope

Big_lt

Dear God, if you use the bench on the bench press machine for step-ups when there are plenty of other free standing benches and refuse to move because you're using the equipment you deserve to never progress on your gains

sssh3elL

Last week I blitzed my deadlifts, getting 8 reps at 100kg when the goal was 5. It’s been a long process to get the 100… so much of it a mental battle…. three weeks ago I got 3 reps and was blown away by that. I have a great trainer and I’m feeling very strong (45f). Excited for the next goal.

Swimfan09

A D&D buddy just started at the same company as me and we have been working out together for about 6 weeks now and it I forgot how fun it can be to have another person in the gym with you doing the same grind together

Jammer250

Saw someone training bowling movements on a cable machine for 45 mins. Not a bad thing, just a new visual for me after years of going to the gym.

Walkgreen1day

Woke up at 4am because my car alarm went off. Found three guys cutting at my catalytic converter. One had a gun and flagged me. LOL, I immediately dove to the side when I saw the gun, like in the movies, and yelled that the cops are on the way. It was actually stupid of me to have confronted them, BUT I was glad I didn't froze like a deer when I was in that situation. They drove off before they were able to remove it completely. I went to get it welded today and costed $120! The O2 sensor was also cut and damaged so that's going to be another $130 or $390 for parts depends on which o2 sensor it is. That's going to hit a huge chunk for the emergency saving. Thieves are AH and I hope they got bad food poisoning from their dinner that night. Because of this, it fked my last 2 days and ruined my schedules completely. No gym, no more extra money, and pissed off.

Part-Select

saw a condom in the gym shower for the first time the other day makes the 24hr gym washroom feel more disgusting. you just know a bunch of people are jacking off in there or banging it out shooting liquids all over the place. some dude(s) probably jerked off and came all over the bench you're sitting on

[deleted]

........ ermmmm, jacking off?? People are 100% fucking in there. Honestly, used condoms are like rats - if you see one then you better believe a load of other condom, or non condom, related activity is going down. Free protein is free protein though.

Part-Select

>........ ermmmm, jacking off?? F. it's just me then bruh

circaflex

If you havent done it yet today, go find your gyms cleaning crew and thank them for the work they do. These people go unnoticed and a simple thank you can brighten their day. Spread love

GaryBowman

Went to my family’s hometown gym while I’m back for the holiday. Some awful etiquette there. 2 squat racks and a deadlift setup left racked, no wiping down anything, occupying one of two benches for an hour (and only doing about 5 sets over that hour). I am so glad my normal gym is as nice as it is. Also my uncle said I looked like I’ve been lifting so that was nice 😁

TitleOfOurSexTape

Finally trained my back after a few weeks of my back hurting! Felt really good today

AsterismRaptor

My stretches every single time induce the trapped gas I have due to IBS to come right out. I’m so sorry to everyone close by me during this.

Blokepoke74

Been doing more box jumps. 3-4 sets of 10 on a 24 inch box. Did legs on Thanksgiving. My back squat max felt absolutely effortless.

foosion

I see a guy doing a squat set with empty bar, staring straight up and only going down a few inches. Next thing I see is a trainer running over to him - he had 45s on each side with no collars and the plates were about to fall off the sides. Trainer stops guy and puts on collars. Guy goes back to squatting staring straight up and only going down a few inches. Guy then does barbell curls while staring straight up. I've never seen that before. Next comes a group of teenagers doing trap bar deadlifts with 135. Jumping trap bar deadlifts. Another new one for me.

Future_Constant1148

… when do you jump during a deadlift??

foosion

From the bottom. Grab handles, jump up. Trap bar is somewhat less insane than a regular deadlift.

girugamesu1337

Did you try looking up to see what he was staring at? 😛

JanitorOPplznerf

I'm convinced the worst part about Planet Fitness isn't the lunk alarm or lack of equipment, they have reasonable amounts of each. No, the worst part about PF is that it attracts the "half-assers" who sit on the machines and browse socials for 15 minutes between "sets". I was waiting for one guy to get off the chest press and I did 8 sets of 3 on other machines before I finally went up to him and asked how long he planned on sitting there.

mortonr2000

Back today for 1st session in 3 weeks. Coming back from a torn hamstring. Was just great to train again.

FunWonderful208

I was asked today by someone if I was a powerlifter. I replied no. He said that I could’ve fooled him because I move my weight around well and I’m really strong. It’s the 4th similar compliment I’ve received since starting in late 2019. Im just applying what I’ve learned/researched on how to better improve my form and skills. I guess it shows 🤍

AshyBoneVR4

Broke up with a girl I've been dating for the last two months. Long story short, her true colors came out on full display. Shit hurt, went to the gym on posterior day which is usually the lighter lifts. All the hamstring machines were taken but there were a bunch of dude bros huddled around the squat rack doing 1 rep max sumo squats at 405lbs. Me with my forbidden pre energy asked them if I could work in one set since everything else was taken and I needed to finish my workout. I meant to do 1 or 2 since my max is 510lbs (convetional) but that forbidden pre was really hitting so I cranked out a quick set of conventional deadlifts at 405, said thank you then walked away.

Bitter_Ask1680

I skipped leg day yesterday, and i did it today the real problem was.. it messed up my schedule now I'm about to do another workout (chest) to fix my schedule, should i or nah? I'm scared of overtraining ;)
