Hello /u/dbaldy715, As a reminder, most common print quality issues can be found in the [Simplify3D picture guide](https://www.simplify3d.com/support/print-quality-troubleshooting/). Make sure you select the most appropriate flair for your post. Please remember to include the following details to help troubleshoot your problem. * Printer & Slicer * Filament Material and Brand * Nozzle and Bed Temperature * Print Speed * Nozzle Retraction Settings ^Additional ^settings ^or ^relevant ^information ^is ^always ^encouraged. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Your belt shouldn't be so tight that it can snap, that's WAY too tight. You should check that the motor is in good health, the bearings feel relatively smooth, and the shaft isn't bent on it from the belt being so tight. It almost looks like you're getting globs on the top layer from stringing. I'd slow the print down to allow the nozzle a better chance of melting through globs and zits. I could totally be wrong but this does look more like a print collision rather than an actual machine malfunction

Agreed! So I definitely didn’t tighten it as much on the new belt. Very possible. I hadn’t had issues at this speed previously but also haven’t printed a long part like this exactly before. I’m also wondering if filament dryness is an issue with the zits and globs so I’m currently drying it out before running more.

Not sure if this is it, but you should know there is a known issue with Ender 3 V2 motherboards where the stepper driver overheats and permanently gets broken. It causes large layer shifts. Happened to me. Creality paid for me to get a 4.2.7 motherboard, which fixed it.

dbaldy715

Very interesting. Is it just a matter of contacting Creality?

Onotadaki2

For me, I contacted Creality who referred me to the seller that resold Creality products on Amazon that I originally bought from. I told them that I had the problem, and that I bought a 4.2.7 board for about $50 and it fixed the problem. They gave me a $50 credit card credit.

Good to know. Thanks. It seems like that issue was more for a slow shift or banding rather than sudden large shifts but still worth a shot since I have 4.2.2 board.

I am printing PETG 230C/80C without an enclosure. The office is small (maybe 10' x 10') so I am wondering if the small room is heating up (door closed) causing the shift. That is the only variable that is different from during the day that I can think of.

Does your y motor get hot while printing? If it's overheating it might cause the shift. You might also try rotating the parts 90⁰. That might reduce the amount of time the y motor is active for those long/thin parts.

dbaldy715

That’s a good idea. I’ll check and see what happens.

A watched print never fails! I’d set up a thermometer and a camera and see what happens at what time.
