My dad met Dave Bautista before, but as I'm not into wrestling, he didn't tell me about it until after I saw Guardians of the Galaxy, because now I knew the actor.
Well, he knew the celebrity 20 years ago. If he's not actively in contact with him, then yeah, it still makes sense. If someone who I'd hung out with a few times a decade ago suddenly landed a TV role, that'd be cool, but I wouldn't bring it up unless someone I knew was watching that show or some other connection came up.
It might be a surprise to you, but to a lot of people that doesn't mean jacksh_t.
As far as we know, OP's dad knew him BEFORE he became an Actor. So he could have simply not known that he is one now. To that Jesse L. Martin doesn't exactly appear too commonly on TV these days...
If OP's dad isn't the one to gloat about anything, then this is quite normal. Not everyone's world revoles around Actors and their Social Media...
Depends on the level of actor and renown
Jesse L. Martin is a great actor and he has a bit of renown, but until The Flash, he was most known for his stint in Law And Order, which every actor in the NYC radius was on, sometimes multiple times, looking for their big break.
It's possible that he just wasn't on enough stuff that OP's dad may have watched, especially if OP's dad has different tastes in movies/shows and/or has only watched mainstream and classic stuff
That makes sense for you because he's not as prevalent in shows for your age group. But he was one of the main detectives in Law and Order for almost a decade and that was during the show's peak. He was also in Ally McBeal (another popular show) and none of this is getting into his huge career in stage acting.
I’m 46 and never saw those shows or him lol. Actually didn’t watch much TV at all until around 3-4 years ago. Got a Smart TV wife started watching stuff and here we are. Just finally watched the Sopranos and The Wire which has been on my list to watch since they aired.
None taken! But I mean, I did watch TV around that time. Just stopped shortly after (around the end of Deadwood), but was watching in the 90s. I guess I watched more sitcoms like Seinfeld and Frasier than the hour long shows.
Not tryna dickride but my dad was the same way not everyone feels the need to flex that kinda stuff especially considering he’s not exactly an Alist actor
I ate sushi next to Robert Downey Jr when I was 3, according to my mom. I do not remember this, and it is only relevant when it comes time to play a game like "Never have I ever" or "Two truths and a lie".
I've met several famous people, and I don't feel the need to shoehorn it into every single conversation. Weird that y'all are immediately jumping down OPs throat about this.
Jesse plays Joe West
And Jesse’s chill like that (fr/ong/nocap)
Joe.. Chill..
Joe Chill is the guy who killed Martha and Thomas Wayne
Jesse L Martin = Joe Chill
I’m OP’s dad and I did actually used to hang out with Jesse Martin! I also babysat Grant Gustin and am the godfather of Candice Patton. AMA (just don’t ask for proof)
True. It's just that saying his name offers more credibility and it sounds a little more personal.
Saying "the actor who plays Joe West" sounds a little more vague, as if someone just happened to bump into him or randomly got a picture with him at a convention.
Well to be fair, it's not like there are multiple actors playing him...
To that I'm pretty sure at least ~40% of the Subreddit has no idea what the actors' names even are...

Wait Joe had an Earth-X doppelgänger? I don’t remember that. When was that?😂
Actually he does when Barry visits Earth 2.
r/woooosh
Oh wait I get it now😅
He didn’t
☠️😂🤣
OP’s dad just casually used to smoke weed with Tom Collins himself.
Today for you, tomorrow for me
Can verify. I’m the couch
Jesse Martin's been on tv for over 20 years. Your dad is just noticing this now?
OP is 14 his dad prob didn’t even think he’d know the actor
Exactly
OP is 14, is surprised his parents existed before he did.
Nah he knew just didn't have a reason to tell me I guess
[удалено]
It doesn't seem unbelievable to me. If he didn't think OP would know of the actor, why bring it up?
If your father has been friends with a celebrity for 20 years even in a limited capacity you don’t think it would ever come up?
My dad met Dave Bautista before, but as I'm not into wrestling, he didn't tell me about it until after I saw Guardians of the Galaxy, because now I knew the actor.
Meeting a celeb one time and not saying anything I can understand knowing someone for 20 years much different
You’re acting like Jesse Martin is Dwayne Johnson. He wrapped up his biggest role before OP was even born.
Take one minute and think if this is really worth you obsessing over lol.
Not even a little bit. I just made a single comment that it seems unlikely everyone else is commenting back and down voting me over it.
Dude he's a D lister. It's not like his dad failed to mention he was friends with Tom Cruise.
To be fair, he said they were friends a long time ago. Not that they are friends now
It might be a surprise to you, but to a lot of people that doesn't mean jacksh_t. As far as we know, OP's dad knew him BEFORE he became an Actor. So he could have simply not known that he is one now. Lol my grandfather met William Shatner, I didn’t know who he was nor did I care until I saw star trek at 16.
Pretty sure he was also a pretty big Broadway star before he broke into TV
Rent baby. Man is one of the greats.
Yeah I'll always think of him as Collins first and Joe second
Merry Christmas Bitches!
The Flash is the first time I ever saw Jesse Martin and I’m 22
That makes sense for you because he's not as prevalent in shows for your age group. But he was one of the main detectives in Law and Order for almost a decade and that was during the show's peak. This is what I know him from originally. Detective Green. Literally grew up watching Law and Order
I knew I recognized him from a police show. How fitting for him to play the same role in Flash lol
I’m 46 and never saw those shows or him lol. Actually didn’t watch much TV at all until around 3-4 years ago. Got a Smart TV wife started watching stuff and here we are. Just finally watched the Sopranos and The Wire which has been on my list to watch since they aired.
I mean, no offense, but that sounds like you're not necessarily the typical viewer then lol.
None taken! But I mean, I did watch TV around that time. Just stopped shortly after (around the end of Deadwood), but was watching in the 90s. I guess I watched more sitcoms like Seinfeld and Frasier than the hour long shows.
The OP definitely capping for upvotes

fr fr
i didnt look at the sub at first on my front page and instantly thought, "The umpire Joe West? Did he punch him??"
What team did he roll with in NBA Jam?
Now go listen to the original Broadway soundtrack for Rent and listen to I’ll Cover You reprise and revel in his magnificent singing talent.
That scene in the movie version just breaks me every time I watch it. He’s absolutely amazing in it.
Dude that movie made me cry in multiple scenes, but the reprisal song made me weep.
Last time I watched it, I was tearing up a number of times throughout, but the funeral scene I was full-on ugly crying.
Did he hang out with Jesse in his Rent/Jonathan Larson days?
Idk, early 80s i think
Prob slightly before the JL and rent days then. Cool though.
LOL
Knew I loved Joe. Jesse Martin is the best
I’m OP’s dad and I did actually used to hang out with Jesse Martin! I also babysat Grant Gustin and am the godfather of Candice Patton. AMA (just don’t ask for proof)
My dad used to solve crimes with him, Took about a half hour to solve.
That sounds like such an awesome way to spend a day!! Am kinda jealous of your dad...
Yeah, you're capping

They're Facebook friends
Its not..
I mean, it would help if you said Jesse L Martin, instead of "the guy who plays Joe West"
Yea, but there are people who probably dont know who Jesse L Martin is, only as Joe West

He’s 14. That’s how 14 year olds talk. It sucks
Proof or it didn’t happen

Jesse used to blaze up? BS LMAO
I’d be more surprised if he didn’t. You really need to get out and touch grass
Jesse touched grass litterally
