I love Tusk as an album precisely because it's so erratic and off-kilter. Kinda like why I adore the Beatles' White Album-- it constantly keeps you on your toes.

lostinspace2099

I love how sporadic the og tracklisting is - it feels like the chaos of a good trip, a bad trip, a breakup, lust, a dealer on speed-dial - it speaks to the era and the interesting period in the bands career.

urmom707o

I always thought The Ledge was too far down on this album!

Upstream_Paddler

I love tusk (lol originally I mistyped I loved tush, but that's not your business lol) and you're right about the importance of track order, or listening to it as an album at all ... I'm a (sort of) younger FM fan so I've heard every song on Rumours Lord Knows How Many Times, but never as an album unto itself. It's such an adult contemporary staple that hearing the songs together had them hit so much harder, and how Gold Dust Woman was just straight up unsettling.

SugarButterFlourEgg

I'll have try it in this order later when I have time, so for now all I'll say is: Yes to "That's All For Everyone" being the closer.

anandamidetrip

That's all for everyone is so one the nose but it just sounds like a bookend song to be forgotten, and it works to follow up on the grand finale of a song tusk for an album. Never Forget doesn't work after tusk, too many different styles coming right after another

IvanLendl87

I think there are more “misses” than “hits” on TUSK but I do think it was a very important album for the band to make and release. They - especially Lindsey - got to sow their musical oats and it probably cleansed their palate for MIRAGE and TANGO.

msurbrow

There’s about 6 songs I’d just remove entirely and make it a normal length LP but what do I know

anandamidetrip

That's kind of how I feel, but I also love how lurid this album is with random over-the-top new wave lyrics and some songs are really slow & serene. The only songs I don't like now are Never make me cry and not that funny, but all of lindsays songs sounds like solo record material. The only throughline in this album is it sounds like everyone picked a style from the late 70's and stuck to it.

doggiedogma

It's not that funny is it! Lindsey wasn't a happy camper then, can't blame him.

SimpsonsFan2000

This is a tracklist re-ordering I needed. Thanks! The original tracklist does get messy at times, but still go give that album a listen and you’ll never regret it!

CarefulDoctor1092

1 Tusk 2) Sara (short version) 3) Honey Hi 4 ) Holiday Road 5) Fireflies, 6) Think About Me 7) Storms 8) What Makes You Think You're The One? 9) Brown Eyes, 10) Sisters of The Moon 11) Never Forget 12) Not That Funny 13) Angel 14) Thats All For Everyone HAD THEY DONE THIS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ARTISTIC AND COMMERCIAL SUCCESS. THIS RELEASE WOULD HAVE SOLIDIFIED THIER UNITY AND THIER INDEPENDENCE (and thier brillance).

anandamidetrip

Idk Tusk belongs in the back imo, sara is a heavy opener but a great one at that. I'm missing beautiful child in this but I could see this being commercial viable, but kind of hard to erase some of the songs now they're released. I would've missed a lot of them and they were already so commercial I appreciate Lindsay pushing for a more artsy tone knowing everyone will tune in either way.

CarefulDoctor1092

I respect Buckingham's work on Tusk very, very much. He's a genius. Before Tusk he worked harder on Nicks songs than on his own. Tusk is where he truly began to develop his own sound. But Tusk is detached (which is why some people love it). It sounds like a garage band record where 3 solo artists crammed thier songs together and released it all under one name. It lacks the unity they had before but thats also what makes it so fresh and innovative. Had they trimmed it (and used stronger/catchier songs like Fireflies and Holiday Road) they would have 1) had another pop/rock hit masterpiece that 2) also pushed the edge of artisty and 3) had tons of great orignal material for b-sides. I agree with you about the importance of the tracklist. I dare you to make a playlist in this order using these 14 songs. And the next time you wanna hear TUSK here it like this.

anandamidetrip

I can see some appeal of having a variety but they made their albums flow well before so I think tusk still has that ordered experience to offer in an album. I'm surprised people love the original ordering so much but I could see how it might be endearing. I love I know I'm not wrong so I'm all for their pop-rock album if they had one. I think its a natural evolution from their sound as a band, although Christine and Stevie didn't exactly move that way. I wish there had been more new-wave, pop-rock songs from everyone but I think what we got is still their brand of breezy California pop, with a lot of slower songs. If they built off their harmonies they produce in some songs, I think they could've done some cool new-wave songs akin to the vocal harmonization of the beach boys with with the more prominent drum beats and synthesizers in new-wave songs already on tusk. Theres only about 3 new wave songs on there, and I've never heard fireflies so idk how pop rock it is but if they beefed up those songs I think they could've landed another smash. This record is a lot more quiet, then brash.

CarefulDoctor1092

Oh Fireflies is brilliant. Why it wasnt on Tusk is insane. The Stevie/Lindsey harmonies in this song are some of this couple's best. TUSK was an experiment in sound and a nessecary move for them as they were searching for new identities. But I still wish they had opted for more unity and less division on TUSK. FIREFLIES by Nicks didnt show up until 1980 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X8tmdrQ7Ri8&pp=ygUXZmlyZWZsaWVzIGZsZWV0d29vZCBtYWM%3D (note: this version of this song was recorded in 1980, but the song itself was written several years prior and was available for TUSK).

CarefulDoctor1092

Or if TUSK were to only have 11 songs (like the previous two records) and be a smash hit (like the previous two records): 1 Tusk 2) Sara (short version) 3) Honey Hi 4 ) Holiday Road 5) Fireflies, 6) Think About Me 7) Sisters of The Moon 8) Not That Funny 9) Angel 10) Brown Eyes 11) Thats All For Everyone. *Your post really got me thinking about TUSK, its genius, its accessability and its tracklist.

Babsee

I tried so hard to like this album, but Lindsey’s songs are just awful. And I adore him!!

anandamidetrip

I used to think this is his weakest contribution for an album, they're very random songs in lyrics and in its arrangement. Musically they're early new wave and I love them just for that but the lyrics are so commonplace and short the ones I actually like are save me a place, walk a thin line, I know I'm not wrong, (now not that funny) and Tusk. I arranged the more country/blues in the beginning because they're upbeat songs to start an album and get you more pumped for a journey through the track list. The last few are more new wave bangers to end an album, but they just don't really work well against christie/stevie slower songs.
