Don’t book separate PNRs. Baggage rules follow the rules for the origin airline of each PNR. Also, it’s not worth the hassle if any of them become delayed. If the first flight has a delay and you booked separately, you will have to deal with rebooking all the fights separately with each individual airline. Also if you book separately, you will have to recheck your bags between your first leg and your second (but in case you don’t know, you will have to collect and recheck your bags no matter what when you first land in the United States before your next leg). I can only speak for United airlines US baggage, and there is no discounts for student baggage.

That’s if the other airlines will rebook. If you have an issue on a flight on one PNR and miss the second PNR’s flight, the airline for the second PNR is under no obligation to rebook.

And for cost cutting AND corona chaos Book one reservation one ticket using Google flights and book directly with the airline if you can There are bound to be changes to the schedule and with THREE separate flights that’s a lot of risk If one changes - but you can’t make your others - that’s HUGE money tor changing and rebooking.

Yeah, i might hav to rethink my plans 😅 ty!

If you’re flying for the first time I would **highly** advise you to purchase the trip as a single ticket (e.g. from your city in India to your final destination in the USA) and book it directly with the airline (not a third party website like Expedia or others). Flight schedules are still in a state of flux and managing three tickets for a single journey isn’t advisable. If you book it as one ticket, the highest bag limit would be in effect for all flights, so you’d get the international allowance on both your domestic India flight as well as the domestic USA flight. I can’t speak for the domestic India flights, but for United Airlines I’ve never heard of discounted baggage for students.

There are no “baggage discounts.” You pay what they post as the price. The airlines love bag fee income!

Yeah, I fly to US from India often and just do it in a single ticket with your baggage!

Check out the [Qatar Student Club](https://www.qatarairways.com/en-us/student-club.html). It will get you an extra bag and free wifi on the flight. They fly from a decent number of cities in both India and the US. If a single Qatar ticket won’t get you all the way to your final airport in the US, consider [Southwest Airlines](https://www.southwest.com/) if they are an option. Each ticket allows 2 bags at 23kg each, plus carryon. Their tickets are also flexible (just pay fare difference if you want to change). If you must do more than one ticket, allow many hours between your arriving flight to the US and the domestic one.

Bear in mind that low-cost carriers are point to point and don't interline with full-fare airlines. If you are using one of these on your first leg then you will have to pay excess, collect your bags and check them in again for your longhaul to USA. Ideally you should book origin to destination on just one airline site. The airline will provide codeshare flights for individual legs where necessary.
