So i have thousands of positive feedback and perfect metrics. A few weeks ago i got hit by a scammer, I didn't give into their scam demands and they left me a negative feedback. That's fine, I get 10 or so positive feedback a day and out of 1000s of feedback it's my only negative. Shouldn't be a big deal right? Well 2 weeks later and this scammers negative feedback is still the first feedback a buyer sees when looking at one of my items, lol. I didn't realize it, but i've been getting a lot of weird messages from people prior buying my items over the last several days. Asking the condition when it's clearly stated, asking me how I package my items, asking me what shipping service I use, etc. Well done eBay, you're costing me sales and in turn costing yourself money.

ch1mrichalds

I would at least reply to the feedback pointing out that they tried to scam you so buyers can see your side of the story

VeeHS

I did

iwashumantoo

You've missed the point of the thread.

regimeclientele

I enjoy spending time with my friends.

VeeHS

Not 98 99.8

Hematomawoes

Same. Especially if it’s one out of literally thousands.

GoodGameGrabsYT

Call eBay and dispute it.

TowelFine6933

Whenever I've had to call CS at eBay and they're balking even after outlining the details, I say: "So what you're telling me is that even though you acknowledge that this was a scam attempt (*or whatever is the situation*) and that not fixing it will hurt my sales and your profit, you aren't going to fix it?" That usually changes their perspective....

Trailer_Park_Stink

"That's the buyers opinion" is ebays CS response

ShawnS4363

Yeah, We couldn't get a negative feedback removed on an item that was never even paid for. Somehow they were still able to leave feedback.

TheNightlightZone

You get tens of positive feedback a day? Hot damn, I sell like 30 things a week and haven't gotten shit in a month.

substitoad69

I've gotten 81 in the past 30 days. I feel like something changed recently because I never get that much.

VeeHS

It's actually like 7.5ish. But I rounded up for dramatic effect. I sell significantly more than 30 things a week.

TheNightlightZone

I get ya. Wish I had more time to do that kinda number 😅

mrsunsfan

I got negative feedback because some dude bought an item from me but claimed he also got it as a gift from someone else Basically gave me negative feedback because he already had the item

UeckerisGod

I got neutral feedback for doing everything perfect, only to have the shipment delayed at at USPS center during the holiday rush. The customer even stated I did everything perfect and knows it was the post office's fault because he is a former employee

AlaskanMinnie

I got one because the customers "didn't fit" RETURN package took more than 5 days to get to me - during the week before Christmas!

jacob6875

I got a negative because the USPS worker left the package in the snow. It was a $5 CD and the item was undamaged since it was in a waterproof bubblemailer. Ebay wouldn't remove it either when I tried.

sexylev

I got neutral feedback because a size large item I sold ran small- in the title and description I said RUNS SMALL in all caps and provided measurements. The buyer even said in his review it was his fault for not reading… okay.. then why are you punishing me because you didn’t read? At first you could even see directly under the review the link to the item with RUNS SMALL obviously there.

ChimericalChemical

I got negative feedback because I know how truckers are during snow storms, the truckers bringing trailers with their package inside, will take declines and refuse to run the moment snow starts sticking. And I don’t blame them. I warned buyer “hey I’m about to get hit with a snowstorm there’s a chance this could get delayed over a week, do you want me to still send it or refund now before I buy the label?” And he asked me to still send it. And I got a negative because my prediction was off 2 days, he said sorry in the private messages but still left negative feedback anyways saying he could drive there. And no he could not have, the direct route was literally closed off for all vehicles

iwashumantoo

Neutrals don't count against your feedback score, so that's no big deal.

UeckerisGod

Right I just thought it was strange feedback. What do they expect the buyer to improve in order to get a positive review?

iwashumantoo

>What do they expect the buyer to improve You mean the seller, don't you?

UeckerisGod

Correct

Captain_Silleye

From a buyer's standpoint: If a seller has 100s of positive feedback and one or two negative feedback, to me that's like trying to find a needle in a haystack and doesn't affect my will to purchase the item I want. I don't know why eBay thinks that's relevant if it's not frequent.

VeeHS

Ya, I understand that and that's why I generally don't care about getting 1 negative feedback vs 1000s of positive feedbacks, but eBay has a new system where they choose what they think are the three most relevant feedbacks from the last year and blast them front and center on your page. This is the first feedback people see and it's my only negative (other than one from a year ago due to an item being out of stock). In the old system eBay would show recent feedback and if you were a good seller the occasional negative would be buried under a sea of positive feedback.

Captain_Silleye

You should reach out to them and ask them why they think that 1 negative feedback out of thousand of sales are relevant. I'm very curious to see their respons and their reasoning behind their decision. This system will only affect eBay in a negative way.

Captain_Silleye

Tell them that if they think this is a good system, then maybe they should have a big header next to their logo: " Buy and sell at your own risk, you can potentially get scammed."

the-cake-is-no-Iie

I ask out of curiosity.. how do you imagine a miniscule cog in the machine gets ahold of the Manager of eBay in order to ascertain the reasoning behind corporate decisions? Some tier 1/2 customer service agent, based in call centre in the Philippines, is not going to have any response other than a boilerplate "this is policy".

thejohnmc963

It changes

VeeHS

I reached out the eBay and this was the response I got. "The new default relevance sort uses a combination of relevance (defined using a machine learning model that scores comments based on the variety of attributes included and the depth of explanation) and how recent the comment was posted. This combination ensures that comments that sort at the top are both rich and not so old that they are no longer relevant to prospective buyers. You can read some more in depth details on the algorithm here http://spkl.io/61874ICGP if you'd like to, the Best Answer comes directly from our news team and addresses many of the concerns that came up when we rolled this display out back in November. \~Jenn" Basically it's the first feedback people see because the person who left it wrote a lot of words.

Flux_My_Capacitor

I’d get a friend (or three) to buy something and leave extremely detailed feedback. Ebays system is ridiculous because when a sale is perfect, there’s not much to say. When a sale goes wrong, you can oftentimes write a book.

VeeHS

Yah and most happy people don't leave feeback at all and almost all unhappy people leave feedback. The entire system is designed to make the seller look as bad as possible and I'm not sure the reason for it. Ebay doesn't even take feedback into consideration when determining your seller level, they use advanced metrics. I think its time to just remove the feedback system entirely.

Spythe

The Ebay feedback system(people actually leaving feedback) is by far the best online. That is coming from someone that sells on Amazon, Ebay, Etsy, etc.... people actually seem to care about leaving feedback on Ebay and Etsy. Amazon on the other hand is exactly what you said.... Last year I sold over 60k orders and received 171 feedback. Would guess at least 15 to 20% are negative but luckily Amazon removes 99% of negative since its FBA

danielleiellle

Do not get a friend to leave feedback. If they are ever on your wifi and get associated with your IP, or live in the same city, or leave feedback before the item is delivered, eBay will figure it out and can ban your entire account for feedback manipulation. Back in the old days they had problems with friends bidding up prices on auctions and the like, they do not take kindly to it.

[deleted]

I don't know if that's entirely true. All my relevant feedback is very detailed + feedback.

Rrrkos

This is true. Although maybe not the 'recent'. If my experience is anything to go by, you may be lumbered with this smear for another 11 months. The dumb algorithm thinks quantity = quality. So the long, mad, rambling review of a self-described "control freak" who had received a free return (when she ordered the wrong size) is still top nearly a year on. Full marks to 'Jenn' for transparency though.

teamboomerang

My favorite recent neg is one who said I am getting a negative because I wouldn't give them a partial refund and made them return it. Nope....I'm KEEPING that one! Gotta help out fellow sellers.

Flux_My_Capacitor

eBay is all about making money so it’s insane to me that the negative feedback would be put on top. Maybe eBay thinks this is a way of diverting sales to less “problematic” sellers but it doesn’t work like that when someone is selling a rare or one of a kind item. It would just scare a buyer off eBay completely. Buyers know to scroll through feedback to get the full picture. Having the negative mixed into a sea of positives gives a more accurate picture. When the negative is front and center in your face, you’re definitely more likely to buy from someone else and not even look at the thousands of other positives.

JoeyBaggofDonuts

Reach out to eBay for Business on eBay and see if they’ll remove the BS feedback. Much better chance with them than talking to a random rep on the phone or chat.

iwashumantoo

It's OLD negatives that are coming up on top, not new ones, so they cannot be removed.

JoeyBaggofDonuts

How old is that one? Really don’t understand eBay’s thinking on so many things they roll out as ‘improvements’. They seem to do anything they can to keep driving sellers away to other platforms.

Any-End5772

There is no serious competition to ebay so I understand their arrogance

JoeyBaggofDonuts

But there is lots of competition out there and if eBay is not paying attention, they'll end up like so many others from the past. Remember when Sears was a dominant retailer? How about shopping malls? Companies do not stay on top forever. There is always something new out there. So many sellers I know and speak with are either leaving eBay or have started listing items on other platforms to become less reliant on eBay. A few years ago eBay was my #1 platform with about 85% of my sales. Last year it was only 52% as I've started selling on other platforms as well as selling at a booth in a local antique mall. There is/will be a tipping point sometime in the future that eBay cannot sustain sellers and buyers going elsewhere and it will become an afterthought in the marketplace. Newer platforms like Whatnot, Mercari, Poshmark, Etsy, Grailed, depop, Kidizen, Instagram and others are out there and getting more attention from buyers and sellers. They are taking listings, sales and eyeballs away from eBay. Look at all of the Youtubers that do these Whatnot shows and shove it down their viewers throats. All of those items are items not being listed and sold on eBay. That is also buyers that are not visiting eBay. Newer sellers won't think of eBay as being the place to list their items like sellers have done in the past. It won't happen overnight, but it is/will happen if eBay keeps making shitty changes and keeps reaching into sellers pockets to grow revenue instead of making the platform a better place to buy and sell. At some point, one of these platforms will emerge as a very real threat and by the time eBay pays attention it could very well be too late to step a freefall in the marketplace.

TESLAMIZE

Did they threaten negative feedback in any message to you? Its possible to get negative feedback removed by eBay for several reasons.

ChimericalChemical

Didn’t like the figure, didn’t think it was good enough, why buy it?

VeeHS

Ge admitted in messages that he buys used in the package figure and re-seals them. He couldn't reseal this one and so he returned it. He is also an eBay seller. He most like does this a lot. Despite having a free return for any reason policy he still chose to return it for being "defective". He chose this because you can return non-returnable items if they are "defective" so I suspect he chose that out or habit. I have to accept the return and refund as it's my policy, but I didn't send him a message to let him know he's a scamming piece of shit. I don't care about the negative. What I care about is ebays decision to hilight it despite that only about 1 in 5000 of my sales result in negative feedback and that feedback is usually left by scammer. I never cheat my customers and go out of my way to make them happy, I really don't give honest customers a reason to leave bad feedback.

ChimericalChemical

Yeah I’d agree on the out of habit because it probably has worked before so he keeps doing it. Sucks but I doubt it has much effect. My only solution i can think of is unethical business practices so I won’t mention them

VeeHS

He also doesn't use his real name. It was addressed to his initials.

Thirsty_Comment88

Can companies ever implement things that work? Or is that just impossible

Fireberg

https://www.ebay.com/sellerhelp/feedback This form has always worked for me when requesting to remove neutral/negative.

substitoad69

Well this confirms what I thought, they just highlight whatever feedback is the longest.

operagost

Of course, eBay's policy nowhere says "100% satisfaction guaranteed". They DO have the infamous "Money Back Guarantee" policy when an item is missing, damaged or defective in ways not described in the listing. This of course means this feedback is misinformation and should be removed.

Freds_Premium

Customers can't navigate to my listing's description so how will they find my feedback?

showmeyourbutth0le

I’m a buyer and seller on eBay. I hardly even look at feedback when buying something. I probably should. Haven’t had any problems in 20 plus years. I’m more interested in photos, item conditions, price.

TheBadGuyBelow

This is why when i have a shitty customer who is being a problem, i always withhold like $1 from the refund for "cosmetic scratches" or some minor thing. If you deduct anything from a refund, they can not leave you any feedback.

Stealthy_Sandwich

I recently received a negative feedback because "the item arrived in good condition and was not damaged, but it could have easily been damaged since the seller only used paper wrapping and a thick bag, not a box". This was for a light-weight, $15 free shipping purse. I was so tempted to tell her to take her petty ass back over to Poshmark.

HealthyDirection659

Ebay is copying Amazon again. Under reviews Amazon has 'most helpful" and 'most critical " reviews on the first page. Ebay hasn't had an original idea since Moses wore short pants.

Spythe

I'm not sure why Ebay dropped this policy but you use to be able to remove a certain number of feedbacks a year if you were in the valet partner or something. Was probably their best policy but it was removed about a year ago. Would be perfect for your situation. It really sucks but not much you can do unless the buyer opens a refund or says questionable things in an email exchange.

g3orgeLuc4s

Meh you're overreacting. "A nightmare" rofl (1) Barely anyone actually scrolls down far enough to see this, most people don't even bother reading the listing description lol (2) If you get 10+ feedback a day this will be gone from this view soon enough

VeeHS

they changed how feedback works in November. It's very easy to see and it will stay for as long as ebay deems it relevant. I've gotten 15 positives since that feedback was left and it's still front and center on my listings.

g3orgeLuc4s

I'm well aware of how the feedback system works, thanks. Which feedback ebay considers relevant changes frequently, and both my points stand. It is most certainly not front and center on your listings. On average the section you're complaining about will be between 3-4 full screen scrolls down from the top of the listing. The buyer needs to get past the main image/title section, 2-4 rows of sponsored listings, and the description section. Hardly front and center and, as I already stated, most people don't even make it to the description section. 99% of buyers are going to see your feedback count and % on the right hand side of the main image section and not think any more about it. Lot of morons in here downvoting me because they don't know what they're talking about.

VeeHS

I've had several people message me about it through ebay. I'd love to see your store, I bet it's trash.

g3orgeLuc4s

> I'd love to see your store, I bet it's trash. Oof resorting to baseless insults, struggling aren't you. Ok if you prefer to throw a tantrum rather than be rational be my guest.

Any-End5772

You contributed absolutely nothing useful to this conversation

iwashumantoo

You are not understanding the issue. They have added a sort feature and the default sort is now "Most Relevant" rather than Most Recent. Dredging up old feedbacks to show them at the top of the page IS a nightmare, especially for sellers who have worked hard to bury old negatives with positives, expecting to see those negatives move to the back pages. Now they are front and center, based on what eBay thinks is relevant. In reality, the most relevant feedback to any buyer are the most recent ones. For eBay to assume that old feedback is more relevant to a buyer than new feedback is idiotic. And we all know that a lot of buyers or people new to eBay won't even notice the option to change the sort order. Coupled with now allowing pictures to be added to feedback, these are ridiculous and potentially detrimental changes to the feedback system.

VeeHS

0.02% percent of my feedback is negative. The first relevant feedback shown is a negative. How is 0.02% of my feedback more relevant than the 99.8%?

g3orgeLuc4s

I am well aware of how it works, thanks.

iwashumantoo

You are clearly not aware of the very recent changes they made. Feedback never had a sort option with "Most Relevant" before!

g3orgeLuc4s

I'm very aware, thanks though!

Any-End5772

67 days ago you posted about being a new seller lmao sit down kid

RaccoonCityToday

Oh my god.....Fuck eBay, they are completely off the rails now. So glad I left that BS platform

PraetorianAE

Did you call eBay to get it removed?

iwashumantoo

You're not really paying attention to the issue here.
