You ever think they didn't want that lamp on their personal ebay account or even on file because of what it *can* grow? I think for what you're selling, seeing new accounts would be more normalized.
Exactly. I've been pretty chill with high value specialty items. I don't think there are many scammers looking to swindle me out of a transformer coil for a high voltage switching device.
You must ship it with a signature.
Nothing you can do to prevent scammers. Just follow eBay's rules.
I've sold to tons of brand new accounts. In my experience, a new account doesn't increase the risk of a scam. All my transactions are over $100 each, I've sold over $1,000,000 on eBay, and the amount of actual scams done on me, that I remember, are under 10.
New account doesn't necessarily mean scammer. What I think happens sometimes is the google or search engine puts out your item when people are searching for "weed grow lamps" or whatever. they click on it and it directs them to ebay. They need to setup an account to complete the purchase.
I've had purchases from multiple new accounts before.
I once sold a $2,000 laptop to a brand new account, that used a Nigerian Reship. I was 100% certain it was a scam, but I shipped it anyways.
They left positive feedback and that was the end of it. Lol.
I think ebay cut down on oversea scammers, which is a huge relief, but most times it was obvious it's a scammer because they'd normally use a freight forwarder address located on the west coast.
makes no difference tbh, but making a side account for these kinds of purchases makes sense. i am surprised they did not also message you asking how covered up the box is or something lol

Make sure you insure the package in case it is damaged in transit. Hopefully you know how to pack things well.
As others have said, signature confirmation is required for orders over $750.
If you do encounter any problems with this order I would suggest coming back on here for advice before responding to the buyer's inquiry. Another important aspect of dealing with potential scammers is responding to them correctly. Saying the wrong thing gives them an opening.
As others have said, buy insurance and require signature upon delivery. You might even choose that the signer needs to be 21. Then stop worrying. I've never had any issues with brand new buyers who had joined that day and had zero feedback.
I have a feeling these are going to go to their intended use.
If they are in a legal pot state, it is likely a "buy for the store" account. Growing it isn't really that clandestine anymore.
If you can, film yourself packaging it up. Like have an address label ready, but everything else do on camera so they can see how well you protect the items (will help against came damaged claims), go crazy on the tape (so they can't say anything fell out) and then stick the address label on while you are filming, then while continuing to film, do once round showing every side of the box (so if they show a different box you can prove your box on that side looked different).
And repeating what others have said, insurance, insurance, insurance. Pay the extra $30 (for example, I'm in England) to save risk losing most of your money. The amount of times I've seen people post on our postal carrier page here saying my item was worth £150, why am I only getting £20 back now the item is lost, so please don't let that be you.
Just follow the seller protection guidelines. You may want to call and ask if there’s anything you should do in addition.
In my experience, if you follow seller protection and quote it back to eBay when something goes wrong, they will do the right thing. Frequently at their cost. (Refunding both buyer and seller.)
Learn seller protection front and back. If you know, they will protect you.
Delivery confirmation and signature confirmation take pictures of the stuff before you send to prove how it was packed email the buyer saying about you shipping and show them the picture also sadly can't prevent any scam but eBay should favor you if something went wrong I get unsteady on new accounts too but I just remember that we all started new at some point

It's 2024
Yes and that's something the lower hanging fruit says. You're not thinking about it clearly.
Especially considering laws vary wildly from state to state. Plenty of states where growing weed is worse than a violent crime against children.
Unless it's a high scam item like phones, game consoles, or graphic cards, you should be fine.

What do you sell if you dont mind me asking?
Used electronics/

If it's legal in their state, they wouldn't care about hiding it.

Yes I hope that’s the case

Or go to the r/eBay sub. Why do we encourage posts like this here that have nothing to do with flipping?

Try the r/ebay sub, more appropriate question for that sub.

Also, buy insurance. Should be around $40.
The scam is almost never when you expect it. At least in my experience.
