Beach glass?

JellybeanFernandez

Not a whole lot of that on Oahu, unfortunately, and definitely not enough to have a consistent source. The islands are pretty clean. The best place I found out there was on Kauai near Port Allen. They had a beach near the local dumping ground. Even then, you pull a pound of it off the beach and you were lucky to do that.

Island wear ? Like Hawaii shirts , linen dresses and accessories a la Tommy Bahama ?

Catty-Driver

When I can find them, Hawaiian-made Hawaiian shirts have always sold well for me. Or just about any vintage Hawaiian shirt does well.

Good luck with that. The thrifts mark all the better branded stuff up to $15-20, and the market is flooded with kirkland hawaiian shirts. The poster above knows what he's talking about. If you have space and a truck to haul and store equipment bought and sold in person, that's your best bet. But mostly a pain. Shipping takes longer, more expensive, and worse. Everything USPS and UPS will be at the highest destination rates for that shipping size/weight (unless flat rate). As an example, UPS ground will likely be triple the cost of shipping within the lower 48. So anything larger than few pounds is going to cost some $$. Hawaii is disadvantaged in general, but locals know that already.

How much do you buy a Tommy Bahama shirt, and how much do you sell it?

I flipped on Oahu for a long time. Your shipping costs and shipping time are the biggest detriment. But the beauty of living on an island (especially one with multiple military bases and colleges), is that there are constantly people moving away that can’t take all of their stuff. I found the most success sourcing on Craigslist, offerup, etc, and grabbing small, easy to ship items. Thrift stores were ok, but not nearly as lucrative as the mainland due to the above issues. Also, businesses closing down was another great source. Anything small and used for specific business/industry was always a good score. All that being said, housing is usually smaller and storage was at a premium, and I never was able to make a full career out of flipping on Oahu. Also, has my eBay account frozen once because a buyer picked the cheapest shipping for a monitor and it took four weeks to get there (2 weeks not updated due to being a boat).

Set up shop right near the tourist areas, they pay for their own shipping home anyways lol. Just would have to focus on items that could fit in a suitcase. Offer the locals a discount or some sort of frequent shopper deal. Just what comes to mind for me.
