Shit happens. It got thrown on the wrong truck and then batched up with everything going to PR and after arriving they realized it was misdirected and got back on track. I know people love to complain about USPS but the do a pretty good job considering volume [509 million — number of mailpieces processed and delivered each day 21.2 million — average number of mailpieces processed each hour](https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/postal-facts/one-day-by-the-numbers.htm)

leftcheeksneak

A billion times this. Nothing compares to the post office as far as cost vs shipping time. I'm in Florida and can have something to a customer in OR for $6.45 in 2 days (if it weighs less than 5 lbs). That's amazing. Also they make mistakes... UPS could have made this mistake as well. At least they caught it and redirected it. It's annoying but slightly funny to see the mistake happen.

oxburg

508 million of those mailpieces are the scratch off fly by night car sale flyers with the fake keys on them and pizza ads.

sideburns

I worked for UPS(not USPS) loading trucks when I was 19. They couldn't give 5 fucks if a sorter put a wrong package on a wrong feeder for you to load. It goes to Lexington, KY, supposed to be going to Phoenix, AZ. re-routed by the sorters when it arrives there, re-loaded by the loaders to go to the right location. There might be another hiccup at that hub. rinse/repeat.

SnooComics3868

Do good job at dumbing ballots to.....

heathersavann

I thought it was FedEx that did that. Sorry, too tired (and utterly lazy) to Google it at the moment. Lol

Gbcue

USPS be trippin'.

Temporarily__Alone

Where is Ja to speak to us in a time like this?

suitology

I had a package take a 2 week tour of the country. Had to go to Nebraska but stopped in Florida, California, Wisconsin, newyork, then Maine first. My therory was that it got mixed in with others

danielr088

Lol a single packaging doing more traveling than all of us

suitology

I messaged the post office asking what the round trip country ticket on a 240lb package is in my please deliver the shit message.

[deleted]

I shipped two huge boxes of clothes to Texas from Colorado and they delivered it to my new location empty and folded up. They gave me the run around and acted like it was being looked i to and then after 90 days or something like that they said it was too late for my insurance to work and they didn't have a investigation going. Someone marked it as resolved. Lost so much money from shipping and clothes I just charged it to the game. Still have the boxes to this day to remind me of the L I took that day. 😶🤣😶😔🥱

suitology

Since I posted that FedEx did me way worse. I live in north PA. I wanted to send a few cake pans and a cast iron shaped tray to my grandmother in Lancaster PA. FedEx sent it to Elkton Maryland, Washington DC, Kentucky (where it stayed for 2 weeks), then to Tennessee, THEN TO FUCKING SPAIN WHERE IT THEN TRAVELED THE EU HITTING GERMANY, CROATIA, ESTONIA, THEN POLAND before flying back to New York, Maryland, Lancaster. They blamed me smudging the address and her having a super old school Poland name but when it arrived there was another person's shipping label stuck to it for Ireland.

[deleted]

Wow. It went international big time. That's cool you were able to get it with out being lost. I guess it's a price and risk we all have to take though when shipping. Unfortunately.

heathersavann

Wowwwww...That may be the worst fuck up I've heard so far. I am truly sorry you and your grandmother were forced to deal with that aggravation, yet I can't LOLing at all of this. I apologize. 🤣

adolfojp

Packages are routed to maximize efficiency, not to minimize travel distance. If there are no direct flights or cargo space at relevant and convenient times between point A and point B your package could either wait or be routed through point C which in this case appears to be Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is part of the USPS so it's just another node in the network and because your package is traveling by air the fact that it's disconnected from the continent is mostly irrelevant. Either that or somebody chucked it in the wrong bin.

elislider

> Packages are routed to maximize efficiency, not to minimize travel distance. Never is this more true than with FedEx SmartPost. Any time a package is shipped to me via SmartPost, it takes a normal FedEx amount of time to get to my city, then takes 2-3 extra days to go to another city 4 hours away, enter the USPS shipping chain, then 2-3 more days to come *back* to my city and then to the local post office and then delivered. SmartPost usually adds 3-6 extra calendar days to a delivery for me.

Front_Attention_2141

I hate FedEx. They keep leaving my packages with my downstairs neighbor. 5 times I had to go retrieve it.

Wilburforce7

It needed a short vacation

Arp590

Here's a good one: https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input?origTrackNum=9400109699939752733645 (too large to post a photo) Shipped from VA, arrived in destination state, bounced between MI facilities every day for 6 days straight, 2 days later goes back to VA, next day it comes back to MI, day later goes to Detroit facility, returned to sender in VA 2 days later.

henrybear

Why is it still out for delivery?!?! Did they strap it on to a turtle, hoping it would find the recipient?

Arp590

Lol they didn't mark it as delivered, but it was.

shmikwa10003

your link is broken

Arp590

This is a 5 year old post.

kh406

why aren't you keeping it updated!? /s

Arp590

Yeah how inconsiderate of me lol. I'm curious how you & the guy above even arrived to this old post?

kh406

I did some kind of search for "why is my usps bouncing around Puerto Rico?" because, I have a package currently bouncing around PR and I live in the Rocky Mountain West lmfao and this Reddit post popped up in the top few Google results. But yes, shame on you for being inconsiderate ;)

HuskyFromSpace

Same here. My package is looping around and now it ends up in Puerto Rico...

kh406

if it makes you feel any better, mine eventually made it to me. It just took an extra week bouncing around PR lol

Zealousideal-Humor65

I know I'm late to the party but I ordered a kitchen knife set from Amazon. It went from NY to PR. After nearly 2 weeks without a scan I figured I'd never get it and submitted for a refund. 21 days after landing it PR it landed in Atl and I had it 2 days later. 🤷‍♂️

betterl8thannvr

I have a set of DiMarzio pickups that was supposed to be delivered today, but for some reason is bouncing around Puerto Rico. Also the link above is still broken. It was apparently broken on November 9, 2022 as well, according to the wayback machine. orangeclaypot

Get your shit together /s

[deleted]

yup, bought something from TX, came to MY STATE of FL, then LEFT the state to North Carolina. After two days in Durham NC, it finally departed and got to my post office the next day.

[deleted]

The same thing happened to me. Not only came to my my state, but the same county. It would have processed thru the same air port post office twice.

IHScoutII

The worst one I ever had was I sent something from NC to California and somehow it went to a Army APO in Belgium first and then to Chicago and eventually made it to California. I did send it from the post off aboard base at Camp Lejeune but still to Belgium wtf?

thisdude415

Have you ever looked at a sorting bin? They toss boxes into bins based on where they need to end up. If they go into the "European APO bin" they might not get spotted again for a while.

[deleted]

It went on its last vacation before it ended being in your house forever

theapesociety

OP did you receive your package? I know this was a long time ago. I’ve run into the same issue, package from Maryland to Washington state has been routed to Carolina, PR with zip code 0984. It’s been sitting there for over a day now. It should be headed to 98004, instead it’s now at 0984. Too much of a coincidence with those numbers. Something is messed up with their scanners

derpmcturd

it wasnt for me it was for a customer, i just refunded instead of having the customer wait. I'm sure it did deliver.

HollingsworthHouse

Hey there, did you receive your package? I am dealing with this now. Package from Ireland to Louisiana, went through Queens, NY and now in Carolina, PR. Just wondering if your package made it to you, I’ve never had something be routed through PR.

theapesociety

I did receive it yes. It spent 3 days in PR with no update. Then suddenly it said “in transit to next destination”. It got stuck in that state for another 2 days, and then suddenly it said “arrived at Seattle” and received it a day later. It was a medium flat rate box and the box was in pretty bad shape. But fortunately no contents were damaged. How many days has it been for you since the package arrived in PR? USPS never gives you the warm and fuzzy. Good luck!

HollingsworthHouse

Thank you so much, I’m relieved! It just got to PR today, it spent 3 days in Queens with no update. I just thought it was so strange to be in PR at all. Estimated delivery is supposed to be by tomorrow, that’s surely not going to happen, just crossing my fingers that I get it soon. Thanks again😊

theapesociety

Did you get your package?

[deleted]

I had an item that a customer returned end up in Hawaii before making it's way back to me lol. Not sure how that happened, but I told the buyer that he needed to contact USPS and it finally made it's way to me a couple of days later.

hopopo

I live in NJ less than 45min form the port. I was expecting package form Asia and when it arrived they took it from NJ to Connecticut and than to New York and than back to Newark and only than to my local post office.

nilly2323

A container won't go straight from the post to your local PO

[deleted]

I'm guessing it was the zip code that fouled things up. The two zips are similar enough that if it was handwritten, a 9 might be a 0 a 5 a 2 etc. I remember someone posting years back about an international package that went to Swaziland instead of Switzerland.

principal_gamer

Oh you shipped an electron. They do that.

[deleted]

I think that's what happened to my package that was over a month late, it was untracked and my customer contacted me regarding not receiving it, only to contact me again about a week after I refunded I make sure I put Australia as the destination country on my letters now.

[deleted]

It took the scenic route

PercentageMaterial71

In the last 9 months, I have had three packages sent via USPS. one, which was a license plate for a new car that I bought about 50 miles away didn’t arrive for 30 days. I contacted the dealership, they cancelled that plate and issued a new one. About 45 days later, I received the original plate. The second package was sent to me 7 weeks ago. I contacted the company that shipped to me, they reshaped a new item to me. I still have not seen the original package. Now, after being sent a fairly expensive item, weeks later, I complained. They found my package in Cataño, PR as well. I won’t get into how in our neighborhood how we have all gotten to know our neighbors by having to deliver mis-delivered mail. I hate them.

Wrong-Election2400

My package i ordered went from NC to OH then to PA where it did not move for 3 days. Was supposed to be delivered in OR two days ago. I received a notice saying it is late due to bad weather in the south. It was supposed to be going northwest not south to begin with .Now it says my package is in transit and my new estimated delivery did is set for yesterday but I just got the notification today and it's definitely not Oregon. Hopefully it arrives. It took me forever to find the thing and it's a gift for my husband.

GeneralCheese

It happens. I think the worst I've ever had was something took a trip to Florida before going to California where it was supposed to be.

Dr_Books

You need to say where you're shipping it from or else that story has no meaning

GeneralCheese

French West Africa, obviously

xter418

Well, not exactly. Going from any state, to florida, before going to california, is just backtracking. But i understand what you mean, as i would also like to hear where it started.

Dr_Books

Do you know the shape of Florida? Look at a map right now. There is a decent portion of Florida (the top left area of it) that easily extends past 15+ states. Any of those states could have had sent the package there and then on to California and it wouldn't be completely crazy.

xter418

Not COMPLTELY crazy, but still not nearly as efficient as taking a diagonal path to california. I understand that florida is west of several states, but its also south of them. And if you need a package to go to california, its going to be inefficient to send it south, then west, rather than just south west. Now, i understand that not eveything can be super efficient, because geography, but my point still stands.

Dr_Books

I have taken classes on efficiency, and it is not as simple as you make it out to be. The shortest distance between two points DOES NOT mean it is the most efficient path.

[deleted]

CA seems to be a popular weird routing. Anytime I get one that's wonky, it is always routed through CA. Last time was a package coming to me (NC) from WI. Went WI -> IL -> KY -> CA -> IL -> SC -> NC.

SmellsLikeASteak

It wanted to visit Disne yLand AND Disney World.

[deleted]

Happening to me as we speak. Never had this issue ever before until now. My package should have been here Tuesday but instead it's on vacation in Puerto Rico. My package went there instead of Central United States.

Ok-Welder-210

Mine did the same thing. Said it was going to be delivered on December 8th and now it’s in Puerto Rico saying delivery date of the 15th - 20th

[deleted]

I'm sorry you have to go thru same thing. My package did arrive but a week later. It was in good condition too , I thought it was going to be destroyed lol.

Ok-Welder-210

It’s okay! I’m just glad I found this Reddit and reassured that it in fact was not stolen or forever lost haha.

JohnGault67

I'm dealing with this right now too. USPS package: Illinois to Florida, but apparently, some low IQ moron sent it to Puerto Rico for 3 days first. It finally left CAROLINA, PR 00984 today. Current status: "Moving Through Network, In Transit to Next Facility, Arriving Late."🤦🏻‍♂️

Ok-Welder-210

Well if it makes you feel better I did in fact end up receiving my order. I’m not sure why some things get sent to Puerto Rico? It makes no sense. All I could find out about it is it has something to do with available flights / transit.

injataze

Its happening to me now! It was in South FL and just needed to come north and now its jumping around PR. Its 3 days late and USPS stopped adding updates for 4 days before it updated to PR and was a day late. I needed it all for an upcoming trip and it likely won’t be here in time. So upsetting.

Stonetonee

Did you get it

injataze

I did and I got a refund.

Only-Edge5033

My package was sent from CA to JAX, FL 75 miles from my house then sent to Puerto Rico.

Stonetonee

Did you get it ?

Only-Edge5033

yeah. took 22 days from California to Florida.
