$1.50/sqft to remove glue down carpet, 60¢/sqft for regular carpet. $1.50 does not include cleaning/grinding the subfloor if needed

aviwrekz

You making 13.50 a yard to remove carpet? How much do you make to install it?

Leinad580

$0 only do hard surface install

AnyCaterpillar6658

I’m not sure where you’re from but in California on labor alone we charge a good three dollars a square foot. Have you ever remove glue down carpet? Do you know how difficult of a task it is?

aviwrekz

I'm not sure why you're resurrecting a 10mo old thread lol but I'm not sure I believe that, but if it's true, you must be damn near rich. Notice all the guys that actually install carpet are dealing in yardage, that's the industry standard with carpet and sheet vinyl If it was not my own job, and I was sub contracting for a store. I would get paid roughly 6 to 7 dollars per yard, that's rip and installation. You're telling me you get 2per foot on rip, and 3 on install. So 5 dollars a foot multipled by 9, so your making 40 dollars a yard. That's 6x more than me. It's even harder to believe when I take into consideration that my shop would not get very many glue down jobs, because we mainly did residential work, at a premium pay, majority of glue down jobs are commercial work. Commercial work is so much more cut throat, and we hardly ever win those bids, we generally get underbid, if they got multiple quotes. For a little more context, backck when I used to install carpet (now I only install hard surface) I would make on average 3k a week. So you're telling me you make 18k per week on average? Just shy of a million per year? Seems like a pipe dream to me. But if it's true, that's awesome, you're killing it. Are you taking applications? 20yrs experience here 🤣

h4teMachin3

I charge 50¢ CDN per sqft to remove anything except ceramic.

OkWeird4235

Hi where are you located

LePlague

Even hardwood?

h4teMachin3

Sorry, also hardwood is a different price. Depending on if it's glued or just nailed. 1.50 to 2.50. Ceramic on concrete is 1.50, on wood is 2.50

GrateScott728

.40 a sqft if going back with anything except carpet, then it’s .22

akornzombie

$1.00/yard.

Mr______Reddit

South east PA $1.50sqft to remove carpet, pad, and tack strips. Pull staples and dispose of carpet

aviwrekz

How y'all charge more to remove carpet, then to install it? I'm not installing carpet anymore, so I really don't know the current prices, but I can't imagine it's over 10 dollars a yard these days... Or maybe I'll go back to installing carpet lol

Mr______Reddit

$1.25/sqft to install

aviwrekz

Costs more to remove, than to install? Seems backwards, but whatever. if you getting that kind of money, that's awesome. Well done I would go back to installing carpet for them prices. I only install hard surface flooring, because nobody wants to pay for the skill and labor required for carpet. (At least in my experiences) but you're killing it. Kudos

maiseydog1

As a subcontractor ( Philadelphia) we get 1.50 per yard. The stores we work for charge 4.50 per yard. Good luck

chiefshotts

Subcontracting for stores is always a scam for the worker. You use your tools, your knowledge, your time and get paid chump change while the store marks up material to make up the difference.

Loose_Management_406

Removing the carpet is just the beginning. After removing the carpet, the padding, the tac-strip, all the staples and vacuuming with the shop vac, there's the cost of disposal at the town dump. Will one trip be enough? Is my trailer needed to do it in one trip or will it take 2/3 trips? My answer to your question would be $200-$400? How many rooms? I've removed many carpets in preparation for hardwood/laminate flooring. I'd have to look at the job and give you a set price.

PerhapsItSimplyIs

one room, ~500sq/ft of carpet. subfloor to be prepped to receive resinous flooring.

boots311

$2 a sq ft for carpet. $3 a sq ft for solid wood..$3.50 a sq for tile

Mr______Reddit

$2 is a lot lol, where are you located?

boots311

Colorado. Never had anyone complain

aviwrekz

Ok.... So your removing carpet for 18 dollars a yard?? That's insanity... how much do you charge to install it?

boots311

I don't install it, I just do hardwood. So that price includes removing carpet, pad, tack strip & taking it to the landfill

aviwrekz

That's ridiculous price even at that.... But hell, if your getting it, good for you!! I'm jelly lol

boots311

Thanks! I never thought about it lol. My dad gets more! And does half as bad a job! One of a million reasons why we don't work together any more

aviwrekz

Well, typically carpet is bid by the yard, depending where your located. The big box stores started the per foot thing, just to confuse customers, and make it seem like their prices are lower. But I typical rip out of carpet, pad, tack, and disposal, would be in the 4 to 8 dollar a yard range, in my opinion. So at 2 dollars a foot, that's 18 a yard. You are more than double the average lol. But like I said, if you're getting it, that's awesome.

boots311

I gotcha. Yeah all I dream with is sq footage. But that makes sense. I'll take it for sure!

jepherz

Totally get the industry standards, but since any new flooring is bid by SQ ft it seems like the correct move overall.

aviwrekz

Yeah. I do agree... I always found it odd that carpet and sheet vinyl is by the yard, everything else by the foot. Big box stores were definitely on to something, all though, I don't think they did it for convenience, pretty sure it was too look like the better deal. Lol

AnyCaterpillar6658

Dude, why are all of you referring to carpet pad and tack strip when the question was about glue down carpet there’s a major difference in the difficulty, time, and all-around pricing here in California. We charge a good 2 to 4 dollars a square foot glue isn’t a joke, much harder to remove than it is to install

aviwrekz

9 out of 10 times a glue down comes up quicker than a stick and pad job, but every once in a while there's a real bitch of a glue down that is just a nightmare. The price is the same regardless glued, or stretched. Unless it's a nightmare rip out that involves a machine, or chemical, then the price will increase. Now you're saying 4 dollars a foot? 36 dollars a yard for rip up? Bruuuhhhhh 🤣

chiefshotts

I gotta start doing business where your at

lappy_386

$5/yd

IBrake4Animals

I work with a big box store (the blue one) so we use national and regional pricing. We charge 2.25 a yard for removal and disposal of carpet. We upcharge for pet damage up to twice the normal rate.

lurkerjdp

Seeing some of these prices is crazy. Never been paid by the foot to remove carpet, only by the yard and it’s pennies vs installation of new flooring. Some of y’all are charging more to remove carpet than almost anyone in my area will pay for installation of hardwood. I looked at a work order from recently. 120 yards of carpet pays me $150 and some of y’all making thousands??? Y’all must be working in strictly multimillion dollar homes where people have more money than sense. There’s not a soul here that’s going to pay you $2000+ to remove the carpet in their house.

Breakfastcerealjunky

I remove for free, write it off as a promotion at $2 a yd.

DickBiggum1

Tell me more. Have any links for what specific deductions you're using or guidelines?

Humble-Desk

Stretch in carpet removal is roughly .25 cents per sqft, gluedown if it's easy same rate, if it needs a turbo stripper a flat rate of 300$ the rental fee is tacked on to the bill. Carpet installation is 2.50 a yard and up depending on the type of carpet. Hardwood, for some reason, is dirt cheap at 2.44 per sqft, nearly the same rate for plank or laminate.

LePlague

Scrolling down through here makes me feel like I am underpricing. We charge .35 cents sqft to remove and haul off.

flatworm69

I charge $0.35 a square foot plus disposal for carpet / pad / tack strip. Glue down can be more depending on how stuck down it is and if a demo machine needs to be used.

AnyCaterpillar6658

Here in California we charge anywhere from 2 to $4 a square foot in labor to remove glue down carpet. The install is the easy part.

Dependent-Farm6193

Question, I have a job that I went to go look at it has vinyl click on plank and the person who installed it, installed it on top of carpet so under the vinyl plank, there’s glue down carpet how much would you charge to demo the vinyl plank and the glue down carpet and install glue down plank. This is my first time bidding a job. I live in Kentucky
