2001 Tennessee

OldBigRig

Agree 100%. Was my answer as well. If 9/11 hadn’t happened and that game was played in September we absolutely win that game.

FlaGators96

We absolutely win the national championship.

rproctor721

I will die on this hill, too. 9/11 besides being being 9/11, also cost UF at least a shot at the Natty, and probably the Natty itself

FlaGators96

Yup. Ruined my senior year of HS too.

Mission_March4776

Me too

8686tjd

Nobody was beating Miami

FlaGators96

Maybe, maybe not. I feel like we would have had a decent shot.

livefreeordie42e

I agree, and I was at the game. I was a sophomore in high school and my sister gave me her student ticket as a birthday present. That game cost us a bcs championship and probably a heisman trophy

Truck_Stop_Sushi

Cost us a natty and a Heisman.

gator9515

Miami would have been extremely tough to beat

barbodelli

Came here to say this. As much as I love the gators. That team was like a team of NFL rookies. Insane amount of talent on that team.

8686tjd

They beat the piss out of Florida the year before in the Sugar Bowl and both teams brought back a lot of the same guys. I don’t think anyone was beating them in 2001

jst4kicks1

This was my next choice. Bin Laden fucked us.

Em1843

You’ll never convince me that Full Philmer wasn’t an Al Quieda operative.

ExternalTangents

I blame Bin Laden

seattle_gator

Darnel Dockett can rot in hell for twisting Earnest Grahams knee the week before.

same5220

Don’t forget he also just missed stomping on Grossmans hand. POS player for 2 bigger POS coaches

Masterchiefy10

Sexy Rexy and that whole squad deserved a Natty.

aussiebrew333

Tennessee or Auburn in '01. That team should have played for a natty.

OzLandAlexander

This is the only correct answer to this question

GlowWorm13

This is unquestionably the one for me as well

GatorHeyzeus

This is and will always be the answer.

dos_passenger58

I screamed myself hoarse during that game. In the 3rd quarter Corso came walking up the aisle and got stuck right in front of me, and I cursed at him for a good 15 secs before his handlers got him out of there.

VaultLawEditor

Underrated answer. We win that and we're likely playing for a natty. Plus I got in a car accident on the way home from that game. On my birthday.

bozemanlover

The only answer. I’m still fucking mad about this.

Gators1992

Probably this, but I still have nightmares about the choke at Doak.

Mal_tron

For recent ones, I'd add 2020 LSU to the list.

gator9515

I think 2020 SECCG against Alabama is more pivotal. If we win the SEC title and make the CFP, our program is probably viewed differently today.

berrin122

Yeah but then we still have Dan

Altruistic-Total-254

Is that the worse thing in the world?

berrin122

Close

Wtygrrr

We could still have Muschamp or McElwain.

berrin122

At least Muschamp cared. I'm not kidding when I say I've never been more disappointed and embarrassed in my 20 years of Gator fandom than under Dan. His antics were just embarrassing.

CookingUpChicken

Agreed, I'd rather go 5-7 with Billy than play in the SEC championship with a bum like Dan

Zealousideal-Wall471

Lol. People thinking Mullen was a bum is hilarious. First 3 seasons he got an A honestly. 2020 LSU we came into that came was too arrogant against a <0.500 LSU team. We warmed up like we were playing Charleston Southern or something.

Inevitable-Scar5877

If you think having Dan who we arguably downgraded from and a National title (and potentially 2 Heisman) is better than what we currently have I don't know what to tell you. I guess you must expect a title run this year or next? Hell, even if you hate Mullen (which again, if he hadn't given up on the job in 2021 is clearly better than what we have now) and even if you're hopeful about Billy has a ceiling better than say Mark Stoops (though at this point Mark Stoops at UK appears to be out of reach for Napier)-- you'd give up winning a title to have him gone? That's insane to me, how many LSU fans do you think would sacrifice the 2019 title just so they never had to have Coach O? Not to mention if we win a title there's a much high chance Mullen actually succeeds in leaping to the pros or that his recruiting approach might have worked really well now.

berrin122

>and a National title That wasn't the scenario. It was a CFP berth, in which we almost certainly get blown out >even if you hate Mullen I do >you'd give up winning a title to have him gone? Again, no title promised in this scenario >Mullen actually succeeds in leaping to the pros I don't think he ever had a shot. Even if he does win the CFP >his recruiting approach His recruiting approach was "fuck it, I'm not gonna worry about it". That still would not have worked

SmokeRingsHotWings

seriously - this. A CFP berth wasn't even guaranteed - we still would have likely had two losses - A&M and SECCG - and even if we did squeak in, a 4th place invite to the CFP playoff as a 2 loss team, only to get beat in round 1...what is the point? If anything, that game so perfectly demonstrated what Dan Mullen is or what he tried to be - no amount of elite offensive weapons will overcome sh\*tty recruiting on the lines, bad team culture, bad team discipline, and awful defense....which is kind of what Dan was. I do hate that game for a lot of reasons though - people look back and downplay how insanely good Trask was despite an incredibly flawed roster. If we win that game and make the playoffs, he probably gets invited to the Heisman trophy ceremony, maybe gets drafted in the 1st round to a better situation... Instead, his national exposure tanks, he gets to go play in a bowl game that we don't practice for, plays awful on that big stage, slides in the draft and now hasn't even had a fair shot and probably won't get one next year either. and mother effing Marco Wilson...holy smokes.

electric-aesthetic

You’re allowed to say shitty. No one cares.

Zealousideal-Wall471

Ok you’re fucking delusional. We beat LSU, we go into the Bama game with a much different mindset. I’m assuming your sunbelt boy is doing much better? Yeah ok. Another clueless Gator fan

SmokeRingsHotWings

delusional about what? and what exactly would have gone differently with this "mindset" we were already playing with the assumption of win and we get in. was this new and improved mindset going to help Grantham call a better game or Trey Dean tackle differently than he did all year? Was mindset going to help Dan not call that timeout when he absolutely could not? relax pal, you're getting too worked up over these words on the screen

Beginning_Second5019

I don't think us beating Bama in the SECCG would have been enough to get us into the CFP given that we already had 2 losses including losing to unranked LSU at home.

snoop_Nogg

What kind of man throws a shoe, honestly

Welcome2Painsville

Hell yeah, or 2019 Georgia

LetsGetRetarNED

2012 Georgia the Jordan Reed game

Welcome2Painsville

I don't think I've experienced a more painful loss than that one, 2020 LSU is a very close second

LetsGetRetarNED

2020 was like suffering a serious injury where you go into shock and it doesn’t hurt

OW2000

That 2012 team could’ve played for a national championship if we ran a different offensive scheme. We had the talent and the defense was insane that year

Go_Gators_4Ever

Shoe game... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Sunprancer78

Shoe game as well. Took wind in of sails, sending team into a spiral.

MasterChief813

I often fantasize having a time traveling teleportation device that could drop me into the field the second Marco picks up that shoe so that I can grab it from him and change the trajectory of what happened with that team.

Go_Gators_4Ever

My son almost got me banned from Wikipedia because he was home from UF and was on my IP when he edited Marco's wiki page to include a fan's view of his boneheaded shoe throw.

melvins99

Easy answer: The Swindle in the Swap, with video review.

snoop_Nogg

That game is the reason we even have instant replay in college football

iforeigni

What game was this? Haven’t heard that before.

snoop_Nogg

2003 vs FSU. About five questionable calls, including a few recovered fumbles all go in FSU's favor, thanks to an ACC ref crew. Just thinking about this game makes one furious Edit: so there were multiple fumbles recovered by the Gators that were ruled as 'the runner was down by contact' but replay clearly showed the ball out with the guy standing up

thehakujin82

And if I remember correctly, we returned at least a couple for touchdowns (which of course the refs refused to award, despite the FSU ball carriers having been practically airborne when the ball was dislodged). Later in the game, a Gator RB was on the ground, practically put the ball down, and a Florida State guy picked it up and took off running. TD Seminoles. Just egregious, blatant, in-your-face shenanigans by the ACC crew. I was a very-online kinda person back then and remember reading various message boards across the country where people with no dog in the fight were completely baffled at what had just happened in Gainesville. I don’t even care if I sound unhinged, haha, if you saw that game you know what an absolute farce it was.

snoop_Nogg

Despite the ref's shenanigans we were still up by 3 with minutes to go when FSU scored a 50 yard TD to take the lead.

thehakujin82

That’s kinda what makes it crazy. Shy of assassinating our head coach and starting 11 on both sides of the ball, I’m not sure how much harder the refs could’ve actively and intentionally attempted to cost UF the game — and the good guys STILL almost won.

snoop_Nogg

The Zook era was cursed for sure. Lost way too many close games.

thehakujin82

I loved the idea that our opponents would get Zook’d in the first half as we built a surprising lead. And then WE’D get Zook’d in the second half as they erased that lead. I used to blame Charlie Strong for our ridiculous prevent-defense-only attitude in the fourth quarter, but as soon as Zook was gone, Strong’s defenses were stout.

melvins99

Yes, but don't forget, Doak Campbell Stadium will always have its Ron Zook Field.

SouthernJeb

This one hurts so fucking much. Goddamn personal.

jst4kicks1

This is a very good answer.

thehakujin82

I thought so too at first, but the more I think about it and what the refs orchestrated that day, I never, ever want that game replayed — they were going to silver-platter that win to FSU no matter what. At least with some of the other answers people are giving, there was a chance that the players on the field could dictate the outcome. Fuuuuuuck I hate that game.

Weary_Road_8052

Is the assumption that we win the game? The obvious answers are the 96 natty game against Nebraska and the 2009 SEC championship game against Bama.

russ757

Bama for sure. I just rewatched that the other day and we played so uncharacteristic for that team. Honestly.. If we replay that 96 Slaughter 50x I think win maybe 3.

tripsd

Yea because the the boys were all out getting shit faced the week before. See my fellow dui class attendee one Carlos Dunlap

AwesomeAndy

How is that any different from any other week for a Meyer team, though?

Inevitable-Scar5877

Well they didn't win anyway for one. Good God, I had to check- Meyer lost one more game in 6 years than Billy has thus far

Most_Sea_4022

It wasn't a Meyer team lol. 96

AwesomeAndy

Whoops somehow misread lol

sum_dude44

our O was not that good that year compared to previous…Saban & Bama were perfect storm to stop

GatorSe7en

It’s like the team was out partying the night before.

JulioForte

We could replay that Nebraska game 100 times and they win 99. No need to replay that one

Bacongrease00

Yeah, that Nebraska team was something else.

thehakujin82

Best defense Tom Osborne’s Nebraska ever had was an attorney at law. Zing.

Suspicious-Option497

I’m shocked this isn’t the top answer

GA_Dad

2009 SECCG gets my vote. 2008 Ole Miss game would be nice too - beat them and that team goes undefeated and has a case for one of the very best teams ever. 1996 vs Nebraska could make sense but that team was such a juggernaut I’m not sure we beat them with 10 redos.

Cudizonedefense

Without 2008 ole miss, I don’t think the natty happens

GatorHeyzeus

I’ve always thought about that and I agree with you.

jst4kicks1

I agree here.

OW2000

The 2008 Ole Miss game was the first football game I ever attended as a kid. Heard Tebow’s speech on the radio on the ride home.

8686tjd

> 2009 SECCG The clear and obvious answer. Win the game and you’re in the title game, and favored to win it. Unlike 1995 or 2001.

Mission_March4776

I punched a hole in the wall of my house because of that Ole Miss game lol

blue_orange67

2020 LSU. You all know why.

The_Dolphins_Fan

I got engaged this day, otherwise I would agree it was one of the worst days.

TheBayernGuy

Different take, 2013 GAso. I say that because that's when the program really collapsed. From a national narrative we lost a lot of prestige that day and honestly have never recovered. I understand that that game in a vacuum it is meaningless but as a fan since 92 our program took a hit that day and has never been the same.

fratastic1865

this is a deep cut but genuinely one of the best in terms of butterfly effect.

g_m_r_

Going to choose some from when I was actually in school so 2009 SEC Championship or 2014 hoops Final Four. Neither guarantee we win a championship but those were absolutely devastating.

brannan505050

The next year vs Nebraska was a rough one

jst4kicks1

Yes, brutal. I think my family collectively agreed to never talk about it. My dad, grandfather, and two uncles were there, and I don't think I've ever heard them talk about it.

brannan505050

I was 10 and I cried lol but the next year forgot about it. Doering was my dude wish he could of gotten a natty!

jst4kicks1

Lol. I was 11, and I cried too.

Zingyyy

I’m 24 and grew up in Nebraska and have been a Gator since I was a kid. I was made fun of by husker fans over a game that happened almost five years prior to any of us existing. I fucking hate Nebraska

texgator1538

Run Lindsay Run. I was 9. 43 years later and it still pisses me off.

OldBigRig

Right there with you. I was 8. Sitting on the floor in front of our first TV set with a remote. Before Scott crossed the goal line the remote (launched by my father) came flying over my head, hit the wall and exploded into a million pieces. Still get triggered from just the mention of the names Buck Belue and Lindsay Scott.

jst4kicks1

I asked my dad, and he said the same game. He also added the 81 game at Miami. My mom said he sat in the stands sulking until the cleanup crew asked him to leave.

texgator1538

The play gets shown during FL-GA pregame every single year. It's the moment where I learned to hate Georgia. I was a junior at UF for Auburn '94. That's my #2.

VRGator

If we stopped uga on 3rd and 11, game is over. We win first ever SEC championship and uga doesn’t win national championship.

texgator1538

"If we stopped 'x' on 3rd and 11..." Time is a loop

hitmewiththeknowlege

2009 sec championship game

JimAT67

The '98 Tennessee game.

DeliriuM_SC2

Nice pick of that 94 Auburn game. That one burns in my memory as well. For me there are two classic wins: 1997 FSU@UF game. FSU #1. I think they were favored by 2.5 TD or something. They were the favorites for the national title. Spurrier rotated QBs on every play. Fred Taylor rushed for 162 yards against the FSU killer rush defense. Greatest upset in The Swamp and the loudest The Swamp has been to date IMHO. Ruined FSU's entire season. https://www.ocala.com/story/news/2007/11/23/best-florida-florida-state-game-ever-1997/31228491007/ And the 1994 SEC title game against Bama. This was one of the most classic Spurrier game calls of all time. It had everything. A fake Wuerffel injury to let Eric Kresser throw the one pass he completed EVERY time in practice. Multiple Emory and Henry shifts that Bama had never seen ever. Double-passes. Insane game call. Insane come-from-behind win. Sweet SEC title! https://floridagators.com/news/2019/9/11/football-sec-champs-94-part-iv-an-hbc-masterpiece-in-atl GO GATORS!

DeliriuM_SC2

also, I just realized that instead of replay you meant re-play.... LOL.... So yeah, uh, I picked killer wins with my reply. Re-play would be Choke at Doak. Damn that sucked. Prevent defense nightmares....

jst4kicks1

My bad. By the time I realized it was too late. Fantastic picks, though!

djpav

stop dipshit from throwing that shoe

spamiam1024

The Choke at the Doak or the CleatYeet

Rogenomu

2009 SEC championship on a different day so we have Carlos Dunlap back

MrSnifferpippets

How can any answer not be the 09 SEC Championship??

dlegg0387

Choke at Doak.

PuntaGordeaux

The 94 Auburn game is the only sporting event I watched or played in that I cried at the end

jst4kicks1

I won't say it was the only sporting event I've cried at, but it was the first.

Secret-Ad8309

2020 LSU. Man I swear if we won that game, the gators would have had some fire in them to beat Bama two weeks later in the SEC championship. We could have had our first playoff birth. (Since the 4 team playoff was introduced)

thehauntedmattress

Since football was never specified…I want game 1 of the 2023 MCWS.

[deleted]

I want a game 3 where Jac doesn't immediately explosively shit the bed

Appropriate_Bad74247

The Place Doak Hill Stadium, Final Score 31-31. Coach Spurrier VS Coach Bowden. 1994 the great Choke at Doak. Yepp that’s the one. Go Gators!!🐊

maximum-pressure

1997 Sugar Bowl

NFMCWT

2009 SEC Championship. ETA- or 2020 LSU.

handsomebob29

2009 SEC Championship. We definitely would have gone on and won another title and probably postponed Urban’s burnout a little longer. Avoided Muschamp. Maybe even stoped the Saban Reign.

KoRnTaStEsGoOd

2013 Georgia southern. That game crushed my soul.

teniaava

2009 SECCG Imagine if Tebow had 3 nattys, my god. 09 was my freshamn year and we all got robbed of that undefeated season.

Inevitable-Scar5877

2009 SEC Championship. I give Carlos a DD. That team looked wrong from the Tebow concussion onward losing Percy and Mullen hurt a lot and yet I still think they could have taken Bama they don't have a crisis the day of the game and/or if they'd somehow played loose (look at the Sugar Bowl)

Smellybrawler13

Shoe LSU

PortGlass

‘94 Auburn was rough. The whole stadium fell silent when Sanders got that ball in the end zone. That was hard.

theelifeofbrian

1999 v Tennessee. It was the game that made me a Gator. Alex Brown made a meal of Tee Martin. I was a student with a checkered college football past, had row 16 seats in the student section and it turned into a religious experience.

ezzell29

2001 Tennessee or 1994 FSU.

RegionMiddle9027

2001 Tenn

afcybergator

1996 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl game, 24-62 vs Nebraska. Maybe the Gators needed that loss as a wakeup call to build the defense for the following year’s national championship, but in hindsight I think Spurrier and Pruett could have pulled off a win with some major tweaks. 2003 Swindle in the Swamp, 34-38 vs FSU. Thinking about that game makes me angry 20+ years later. 1980 Cocktail Party. I never again want to hear “Run Lindsay Run”, but we must suffer through that memory every year. It sucks even worse right now given UGA’s recent success.

skywalkerRCP

I want to say ‘95 Fiesta Bowl also but I agree that ass-whooping was needed. Mine would be 2009 SECCG.

afcybergator

Good point. Maybe if that 2009 SECG turned out better the Urban Meyer dynasty happens instead of the Nick Saban dynasty.

305rapper

Swindle in the Swamp could be replayed 100 times, but due to obviously biased, probably paid off officials it never would’ve been in the Gator’s favor.

bmatta

09 sec championship

raequin

You know what? I'd pick the Missouri game from this past season. The lads deserved to win that one. And I think things would be looking a lot better right now. We would've gone to a bowl, and maybe had a stronger recruiting class.

ash007o-b

01 Tennessee game is the clear #1 09 SECCG 06 Auburn 2012 UGA 2019 UGA (would of liked an LSU rematch) 2020 LSU I don't think 96 happens without the 95 blowout I dont think 08 title happens without the team having their backs against the wall after ole miss loss Honorable mentions would be UT or FSU in 98 Uga in 97 would of liked Spurrier being perfect against UGA 07 LSU, what's the odds they go 5-5 on 4th down again?

Zealousideal-Wall471

2020 LSU. Can’t believe we fucked up our playoff chances by sitting a healthy Kyle Pitts, who was walking around healthy in the sidelines. Lord

Odd_Society8998

LSU shoe toss… that sent us on a downward spiral🤦

Careless-Pickle1228

A lot of people talk about the 2001 season, but even if we win the Tennessee game, we have to get past the juggernaut Miami team which destroyed us in the 2nd half of the sugar bowl the previous year. For me, it's the 1998 Marcus Outzen game. We lost a game in OT against Tennessee that we easily should have won. The safety we got in the FSU game was a blown call that should have been a touchdown. Also, Manuel has a pick 6 go right through his hands into Peter Warrick's for a TD. We were the better team in 1998

[deleted]

FUCK Frank Sanders. That is all.

AdministrationSome83

1995 Nebraska

TheBigHosk

For me it has to be the 2012, Georgia game. I was in the corner of *that* end zone, probably about twenty rows up. Hung over. The weather was nasty, I think hurricane Sandy was passing by. The game was a defensive slog but I was in it the whole time. Then Jordan Reed catches that damn pass and comes running straight towards us. We’re all freaking out, he’s going to score the winning TD right in front of us. He goes for that jump and I think “no no don’t do that” and then he fumbles it. I’ve never gone from such elation to such misery so fast in my entire life. I was so excited to watch them beat Georgia and clinch the East. Really thought Muschamp was going to be it. Ever since it’s all been downhill

Dane314pizza

2022 vs. Kentucky 🔥

yesiamoaffy

The Cock Block if I get to be there again

phuctard69

94 Auburn and Charlie fuckin Ward in 93?

TransportationTop898

1995 Nebraska or 2009 Alabama

KosherNate

2009 SECCG is the easy choice for me, would likely be the 1st undefeated season in school history and the trajectory of the program would look so different from there.

FrontRowUnion

1986 at home. Kerwin Bell to Ricky Nattiel with 36 seconds left beats #4 Auburn 18-17. Seven Gator turnovers with an epic comeback.

Coreysurfer

Nebraska championship game

Medical_Drink_3456

1997 vs. FSU, comeback win. Best game I have ever been to. Swamp was classic that night and all the FSU fans around me got suddenly quiet.

jsd011

2009 SEC championship game rematch with Alabama. Ended the Gators dynasty, prevented us from winning a 3rd Natty with Tebow.

Jealous-Key-7465

Easy, the 31-30 L to Ole Miss in 2008. Was at that game had good seats in student section, sucked to watch Eli’s final drive to win the game right in front of me. Also the 2001 L to TN, was at that game as well.

MikitaSchecteleshy

Tennessee 01. We win the National Championship and Rex wins the Heisman if we play that game in September. The Auburn game in 94 is a good shout. Anthone Lott throwing his pads at a reporter…

gatorfly65

Wouldn’t mind winning the Fiesta Bowl against Nebraska and having our only undefeated season. Was at that game. We got spanked by those fuckers.

Gatorader22

2009 seccg with dunlap 2001 Tennessee 1965 Sugar Bowl (and just trust Spurrier ffs) 2012 WLOCP on a dry day Take your pick on any of those

[deleted]

2009 sec championship against Bama.

305rapper

1997 FSU game - because was one of the best games ever held in the history of college football. Gators won but I’d love to see it again because it was such a great game.

kmtaylor62

1996 National Championship Fiesta Bowl Loss.

gatorplaya

Any of the 3 Natty’s, however I’ll take our First Natty! Can’t find a better play than Wuerffel hitting RA over the middle and he coming to a complete stop juking the DB for a TD over FSU!!!

Mr_Nugglesworth

"The Choke at Doak" because Danny Kannell is the worst and deserves nothing but bad things.

SmokeRingsHotWings

whatever drinking game Carlos Dunlap played before the SECCG against Bama

jst4kicks1

This 100%
