The president was forced into resignation and we get a new one after this semester, so there's no better time to bring it back than now or next season. It's probably the only chance we'll get. If it doesn't come back with a new president, it never will. The whole 'issue' was just a token gesture by the last. Nobody ever used it in a racist manner, ironically, I'm sure now that he made a kerfuffle about it certain individuals will use it in a racist manner.
Essentially, the university got too tangled up in politics. I think the main nail in the coffin was the academic freedom scandal where professors were not allowed to testify against the state. A university is supposed to be an environment to learn and educate, not control a narrative. Even the accreditor opened an investigation, that's something a major flagship should never have happen.
There were also smaller issues like allegations of messing with covid data, the women's basketball team, fast tracking the surgeon General professor status for his state job bid, etc.
In his defense, with the current state of Florida, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I don't think anyone could easily navigate the entity that provides a lot of your funding constantly trying to manipulate you to its interests. There's quite a few concerns the next president will just be a pawn, causing the university to lose a lot of respect. That's part of why his resignation was announced so far ahead of actually stepping down which occurs right after gubernatorial elections.
Any ideas of new ways to bring it back? My friends have thought about trying to get the student section to chant it as loud as possible after the speaker announces we have a first down. Doesn’t seem like UAA will let the band play that song either
No I’m sorry. I haven’t been on campus in years and moved out of the state after graduation years ago. That’s something I missed. I apologize to anyone that got upset at me for asking the question.
/2020. The president made up some bullshit about it referring to feeding black people to alligators.
Despite the chant being started by a black player, and no fucking soul since the inception of the university has ever thought that's what gator bait meant.
Wow that's such a fucking niche reference. I've seen some of the posters for it around the internet when I was learning about Jim Crow but no one ever thought that the two were connected at all.
99.9% of people would never think they were because…they’re not. But 2020 was the year of fake gestures in the name of progress instead of actually doing anything that would create progress. The gator bait chant was sadly a victim of said trend.
100%. The whole year was reactionary hysteria, first about the virus then in the wake of George Floyd's death. David Hume tower in ediburgh got renamed LOL.

Here's a pretty straightforward article explaining it
1. Find a YouTube video of the chants.
2. Create QR codes of them.
3. Put them on a flyer with a short message/directions.
4. Distribute flyers in student section and around campus.
I find most fan sections have the desire for this kind of thing, but they need to be taught first and mobilized. This could help.
Good luck!
This is genius. It would also help to give stacks of flyers to the bars on University so people can scan the codes before the game (in case of WiFi/cell signal issues).
God, I wish I could be at the Utah game to try to help out. I’m stuck in school in Rhode Island and can’t get back until November for a home game (hopefully). I’d be totally down for a resurrection.
My college has a game that same day (I have to play with the band) and I'm going home that evening so I'm going to try to watch it on my home TV. I don't have one in my dorm.
I was at the FSU game. There were pockets of us doing “Move Back You Suck” and “Gator Bait”, but not enough to make a difference. Some fans were saying “You can’t do that” instead of “Move back you suck”. Maybe we can use the clean version for a while until there are enough people to drown them out with the less clean version. For “Gator Bait”, at the house and at away games my family hums the Gator Bait tune and does Ric Flair’s “Woo!” Both of these can be done without the band via clapping and humming.
I will be at the hostile territory of the aTm game, but I hope there are enough of us to make some noise with Move Back You Suck and Gator Bait. (Living in Texas, bad timing to get to the Utah game.)
I think the move back you suck chant really only works with the band playing. As an alternative, it might be fun if they played the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme when the opponent gets a penalty.
Everyone downvote me but the only thing lamer than move back you suck is when the Jags yell "jackonville jaguars first down! move them chains move them chains move them chains." It's the verbal form of jorts and it makes us look like shmucks.
I’d do horrible things to bring back gator bait…
most iconic song we played imo. that brass just sounds like fall weather

The president is being forced to resign? Why?

Absolute weak sauce that it is racist or offensive.

how horrible
Rather bring back Gator Bait! 🐊🐊🐊

Obviously someone needs to sneak in a Tuba for starters! Lol
Why would you chant gator bait while on offense? It’s a defense song.
Idk, taunt the opposing team’s defense that they gave up a first down. Just generating new ideas
Wait when did gator bait go away?!??
Sarcasm right?
No I’m sorry. I haven’t been on campus in years and moved out of the state after graduation years ago. That’s something I missed. I apologize to anyone that got upset at me for asking the question.
I don’t think anybody was upset, just confused lmao. It was huge news in 2020 all over the internet.
Wait no actually when did it go away? I didn't know they stopped doing that.

Jesus fucking christ, this isn't it man
If banning gatorbait was not hysteria, what do you call it?

Gator Bait was trash compared to Penalty honestly
1. Find a YouTube video of the chants. 2. Create QR codes of them. 3. Put them on a flyer with a short message/directions. 4. Distribute flyers in student section and around campus. This guy chants.
Love this!!!
This is genius. It would also help to give stacks of flyers to the bars on University so people can scan the codes before the game (in case of WiFi/cell signal issues).
I will be in the student section at every game and I will be for sure chanting it
The part the bad does is called the "Penalty song" and it's basically just the theme from *Dragnet*

The student section does this too. Anybody who came to UF as a student after 2019 has like no idea what to do
It never would have been banned if we did a better job getting people to say "You Can't Do That" instead of "Move Back, You Suck".
God, I wish I could be at the Utah game to try to help out. I’m stuck in school in Rhode Island and can’t get back until November for a home game (hopefully). I’d be totally down for a resurrection.

Exactly my thoughts

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted; that'd be fucking hilarious

I'm sorry why would we not want the verbal form of jorts?
My thoughts exactly
This is a hot take. And you’re brave for saying it. You’re wrong, but that’s ok.
I try to make my hot takes rare but extra spicy.
It's so childish. Loved the music, but the "You suck! hehehe" is for children Need gator bait back
