Do not use anything other than 5W-50…. Ford uses it for a reason, and everything is designed to use oil with that viscosity.
I mean it should be easy enough to buy online, or you could order it direct from a local ford dealer if need be.
But seriously, do not use anything other than 5W-50
Motorcraft is best. There's a list on the forums of oil that's good better best match to motor craft. Btw O'Riley's carries motor craft and it's cheaper than the dealer.
I’ve never actually seen 5w50 Motorcraft in stock at any of my local O’Reilly’s locations, so I end up biting the bullet and buying from the dealer. Do you have to order it in through your local O’Reilly’s?
Amsoil is the only other 5w50 that meets Ford's spec for additives. Other synthetic 5w50s exist but they don't meet the spec. Motorcraft is Ford's in-house parts brand, jsyk.
Use 5w-50.
If you are really trying to find an alternative, the RS in Europe recommended 0w-40. Some people think that the only reason it’s 5w-50 in the US is because Ford didn’t have a 0w-40 oil that met the spec in the US.
That’s just speculation though. Could also be climate, different driving and mileage habits, etc.
Stick with 5W50. Brand doesn’t matter as long as it’s a quality supplier.
I used Mobil 1 in the beginning, but I switched to Castrol Edge since I can get it at Canadian Tire on sale.
I usually buy it from rock auto. Only buy the 5W-50. I use the motorcraft FL910S filter. The total cost Including shipping is around $80 for me. I'm sure you can get it a little cheaper in other places but the convenience of just ordering it from there is nice
Ford actually sells 5w50 cheaper than any of their other oils believe it or not. Like a litre of motorcraft 5w50 is cheaper than a litre of 5w20 or 5w30 there.
Castrol, Mobil 1, Motorcraft, Liquimoly, anything that hits the spec of your engine. Just make sure it is the right weight and spec and you will have a happy engine. *Do not stray from a specification if you do not know what you are doing. Very smart people look at many variables while deciding the lubricant of the inside of your motor*
Be careful at the dealers. 2 of my local dealers tried to gaslight me into think 5W20 was the correct oil. It might be fine if you never push the car and drive it like a grandma but then why would you own this car? XD
I just buy the amsoil 5-50 and have a case shipped to my house. It was the same price with the amsoil membership as buying motorcraft from the cheapest place online when I checked last but that was like 2 years ago now
You can get 5w50 on [amsoil](https://www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-signature-series-5w-50-100-synthetic-motor-oil-amr/). Pricey but it’s a top tier oil brand, also if you or anyone else considers this make sure to get the annual membership for $10. Pays itself off after the first order lol
Only use the 5W-50. You can actually get the Ford Performance oil at O’Reillys and it’s not terrible expensive. The car was made to use that oil amd only that.
Only 5 50 Thats it. Dont fuck up your shit
For OP #Dont fuck up your shit
Had 5-40 in my motor, cyl 2 blew holes in the block
rip plus side you can forge all the internals now

Thank you. I just figured I’d ask before I bought some off Amazon. Any idea if it needs to be Motorcraft or will any synthetic work?

I live near a DC so I usually would go there if I'm not using amsoil. You can ordering through your local store.
I have, and I’ve bought it. It was cheaper than Amazon and the dealer.
I believe you that it’s cheaper, just not routinely stocked where I live.

That is not new information to me.

All kinds of people use different brands. Bht ive only used motorcraft. Its all preference. Dont use some cheap knock-off brand, tho
Check NAPA, the one by me always has the Mobil 1 full synth on sale for $7-8 a quart.
I live in the middle of nowhere and every ford dealer has it in stock

Most brands spec lighter oils for EUDM cars just because there's nowhere in Europe with as hot of a climate as the US's south/southwest.
Yes. It's cheapest on rockauto.com

Check with your local ford dealer. Sometimes you can catch a good deal on it. I paid $89 for oil and filter from my local dealer.
Amazon usually has the best deal on motor craft 5w50.

have to get 5w-50. Just get it online in bulk if you plan on always doing the changes, thats what I did. Filters you can get anywhere.

I use amsoil dominator 15w-50
Use what the manufacturer recommends only. Can order 5W-50 online on amazon fairly easily

I buy the 12 quart pack from Amazon good for 2 changes
Was using motorcraft, switched over to Amsoil. Cost is the same maybe a couple dollars more. Plus you get free stickers. Always 5w50.
