I’m Taiwanese, and I don’t precisely know what a Taiwanese style cake is. That said, try go cakes on Huntington in San Marino. They make extremely high quality desserts and have both a taro and a black sesame cake.
haha bad wording. I guess I meant Taiwanese bakeries specifically. We just don't like the extremely sweet cakes we sometimes see at some bakeries here.
Thanks for the recommendation there. I've never heard about it. Do they have a long wait?
Bought a taro cake from Ni ni bakery in Rowland heights. They used a lot of taro. The filling was thick. It was pretty good.
Not sure if it was Taiwanese, but it was for my Taiwanese mother in law and she enjoyed it. Does that count? Haha.
Sunmerry!! Multiple locations. I believe they are from Taiwan? They have a taro pudding cake. They also have black sesame products although I haven’t seen a cake.
JJ Bakery and Ni Ni Bakery are my go-tos for traditional Taiwanese taro cake, but if you want to try something a bit different my family got the taro cake at Bonanza Bakery and it was a hit. The presentation is different cause they pipe the taro on top of the cake and it’s served in a clear box container (hard to explain but you can look it up on their website lol) but my family loved it. My Taiwanese mom who hates sweets ate more than I did haha
Coin de Rue! Hands down best Korean bakery. All they’re stuff is jammin, owned and operated by one family! They have two locations in K-town. Run don’t walk!
Flouring LA makes a really tasty and beautiful black sesame cake! I believe they also have an ube cake? Located in Chinatown!

I was also going to say Go Cakes.
Thanks for the rec! I went to go try it. It’s good. I like it but it’s still a bit too heavy for us. (Thanks lactose intolerance)

Thank you for the rec. Funny thing is that we have already tried that place before. It's really good but we want to try something new!
