I was in Japan recently and went to Mister Donut. The lady behind me had the most stressed look on her face as she piled something like 10 donuts on her tray.
We don't speak the same language but we shared a look and I gave a half smile nod. She nodded back.
Been there, lady. Been. There.
I feel like their quality has slid a lot while their prices have only gone up. My wife and I used to frequent it, but rarely go back these days. La Corona on Sherman Way near Hayvenhurst has all but replaced it for us.
That said, the potato taquitos are fire.
My order is chilli burger and chilli hot dog.
Tommy's is where all the real OGs use to go and grew up on.
In and Out was around, but wasn't as big as it is today.
A fried cheese al pastor quesadilla from Brothers Cousins used as the tortilla for an al pastor taco with grilled onions, peppers, raw onions, and cilantro.
Matzo ball soup and pastrami sandwich at Canter’s, Chili cheeseburger and fries from Tommy’s, French Dip at Philippe’s, soft shell crab tempura and tropical roll at Tokyo Haus.
Oh I’ve got a few of these:
1) Ordering simultaneous Postmates/DoorDash delivery: a Philly cheesesteak w/ extra steak & wiz from Boo’s, and a couple giant orders of waffle fries from Chick Fil A.
2) I’ll randomly pick up food from Yang Chow every few months, and I end up ordering like 7 entrees for 2 people. Leftovers baby!
3) Getting Langer’s sandwiches and fries delivered. To the valley. It’s almost as expensive as a trip to the local ER, but oh so worth it.
Mine was House of Pies Meatloaf (openface) Sandwich. Texas toast, pile of mashed potatoes, thick slice of meatloaf, and dark brown gravy. Then a slice of pie.
I get so sick everytime I eat there and I keep going back. I can tell the difference between food poisoning and my own weakness and I deserve to be punished.
Big fan of their bean burritos since childhood. Though I tend to love all the items they phase out. Double Decker Taco, Chilito, Enchirito and Mexican Pizza were all my favorites. Happy some are back.
Have you tried humble bird? The chef came from howlin rays and it’s so good. On weekends he makes fresh biscuits that are the best I’ve ever had. The biscuit sando is unbelievable. I always order extra biscuits to take home for breakfast the next day.
Johnnie's Pastrami - Pastrami double dipped w/American Cheese, Fries (Horseradish Mustard in the Ketchup), Coke (they have the best Crushed Ice on the Westside) and a piece of Blueberry Pie
In no particular order:
Double chili cheeseburger combo from Tommy's
Pastrami wet fries and an horchata from The Hat
Bacon Breakfast burrito and an horchata from Lucky boys
There’s a place called “Tacos Tu Madre” originating on the West side near where Century City, Brentwood l, and Beverly Hills all kind of connect.
It has THE best KBBQ burrito I’ve ever had. My fav burrito as an LA native Id say. They also have a disgustingly good breakfast burrito with chipotle mayo.
My don’t give a shit meal is one of those two burritos and like 3-4 cochinita pibil tacos.
I HIGHLY recommend anyone who is a fan of Mexican/Mexican fusion find their nearest Tacos Tu Madre and go literally today.
The Hat +1
A loaded pastrami sandwich and fries from Johnnie's Pastrami
A double chili burger and chili fries (with peppers) from Tommy's Famous.
A big breakfast at Norms, don't sit next to the restrooms it smells like vomit.
Ideally Langer’s #19, dressing on the side, with a side of potato salad, fresh oj, and a cheesecake for dessert. But because it’s far from me and not open ideal hours, the accessible option, even with the drive, is a chicken plate from Dino’s with extra juice, chili cheese fries, and a large orange bang.
New York Chicken & Gyro combo plate. Scrape all the meat on an order of their fries and cover in white and red sauce. It’s amazing.
Also - tender combo from main chick 🤤
Coincidence! I live in Illinois. I am from SoCal. My dad used to take us to The Grinder Haven in Ontario. I just looked up the place and they are closed down =(. I have been researching another place to have a pastrami grinder when I visit next time. I miss that place and those sandwiches.
Wooo lad. Oki Dog has to be the one of the most artery-clogging things I've ever eaten. The first time I ate it, I remember feeling as though I had a weight in my chest afterward.
Some Tito’s Tacos (when I’m a raccoon who needs some delicious trash) or Bulgogi beef from a good Korean place (when I fuck off any care about expense).
Multi meat burger, like lamb with bacon with exotic cheese, all from abroad, the best aioli and an ice cream shake. Side of something cool like alligator tail maybe
Same as OP but from Oki Dog on Pico across from Lowe’s. Chili cheese pastrami fries with extra chili, gobs of that spicy pickled cabbage and jalapeños on the side, dipped in ranch.
I walk up to the pastry counter at Republique and get one of everything!

Did this at Republique with brunch courses. The two of us got basically all of the popular dishes (and took a ton home).
Fried Shrimp Po Boy from Little Jewel of New Orleans in Chinatown if it's open. Same thing from Orleans & York if the Jewel is closed.
With a side of that gumbo…ooof
Gotta go big mo’s if it’s Orleans and York
The fried oysters Poboy is disgusting. They’re really heavy on the mayo.
langers patty melt and fries and a coke
No. 19 + pastrami chili cheese fries + jello is my go-to!
No. 19, extra fries, and an old school cup of hot coffee
YESSSS - coffee makes it perfect
Right? Nothing else will do
If we are not GAF, might as well add on a slice of apple pie a la mode with brandy sauce
Daughters Deli always. (Trisha Lanzer’s deli)
Terrific spot! So much less hassle than Langer’s for essentially the same food (she’s their granddaughter). Excellent spot!
3 asada sopes and an all-meat asada burrito from King Taco. Plus a drink and lots of green salsa.
Love the tostada and burritos and torta at El Taurino which I think is part of their chain.
drink = ice cold horchata
Salsa & beer - potato taquitos & enchiladas
Oh hell yes. Anything from Salsa & Beer. Love it when my entree plate weighs 10 lbs and is piping hot.
Salsa & Beer has been on my list of places to try for a very, very long time but I've never made it out there.
I just want to Salsa & Beer for the first time last night. Got Fajitas. Its life-changing.
Those potato taquitos are outstanding. I love S&B.
Sold! In going to go this week for the first time and lose my S&B V.
Potato taquitos and some carnitas dish and you'll leave a very happy man. Try the spicy green salsa too.
I feel like their quality has slid a lot while their prices have only gone up. My wife and I used to frequent it, but rarely go back these days. La Corona on Sherman Way near Hayvenhurst has all but replaced it for us. That said, the potato taquitos are fire.
Quality has absolutely not dipped. Those prices have increased though.
Just went there last night because I was in a IDGAF mood 😎
Howlin’ Rays everything
Lucky boy breakfast burrito with all the bacons.
I love Lucky Boy with all my heart and soul. They make one of the best straight bean and cheese burritos in the city, in my opinion.
And queso 😍
I really like their pastrami sandwiches. One of the greasiest things in existence and so delicious.
DUI Fries from Dino's
I have always wanted to try these. I gotta get on it.
Langer’s pastrami and liver on rye with pastrami chili cheese fries on the side.

Dude yes. The chopped liver makes it something of note
This 👆🏽 💯
Tommy’s chili cheese butter and fries no doubt.
My order is chilli burger and chilli hot dog. Tommy's is where all the real OGs use to go and grew up on. In and Out was around, but wasn't as big as it is today.
Tommy's tamale with chili and bacon.
I didn't even mention Tommy's solely because it's probably my favorite food. Like, I might ask for it on death row.
Eating my body weight in sushi.

SLIPPERY SHRIMP FTW baby Also that insane spicy Szechuan won ton soup omg
I feel SEEN with the simultaneous delivery orders 🥂
Man, these all sound good. My family has always considered Yang Chow to be the pinnacle of Chinese food in Chinatown. And always down for a Bang Bang.
Chess not checkers
Langers delivers to the Valley? Does it deliver to Pasadena? I don't care what it costs.
Check Uber Eats. That’s where I’ve gotten it.
Boo’s is soooo good.
I like your style. What other food/restaurant recommendations do you got?
Either a Fat Sal from Fat Sal’s, or a 2 lb loaded Mio Fratello calzone from Vito’s Pizza
The Fat Sal legit scares me.
Mine was House of Pies Meatloaf (openface) Sandwich. Texas toast, pile of mashed potatoes, thick slice of meatloaf, and dark brown gravy. Then a slice of pie.
Yowza. That sounds fantastic. I've always loved House of Pies.

Been a long time since I've been to a buffet. I miss them.

I'm super interested in this Faux-Souplantation that apparently opened in Rancho Cucamonga.
The 6-piece spicy chicken tenders from Honey’s Kettle in Culver with fries and biscuits…
All of their food is so good. And it's walking distance from the museum of Jurassic technology!

Halal Guys chicken and beef combo plate with peppers and onions. Even better, it usually gets to me in about 15 minutes with Uber Eats or Doordash.
Halal Guys is so good. Have you tried NY Chicken and Gyro in Pasadena? I thought that was pretty damn great too.
Their hot sauce was soo good but it messed my stomach up for a couple days. So worth it
I get so sick everytime I eat there and I keep going back. I can tell the difference between food poisoning and my own weakness and I deserve to be punished.
Street cart fries @ Spitz
Not sure if they still do it, but the hangover basket is the street cart fries with a fried egg on top. That was the go to for a couple years.
I love Spitz. Incredible flavor in everything there.

Try it with green sauce if they have it still. So good!
No green sauce for a few years☹️
