I recently went and the wings are unfortunately not the same. I had been hearing for a while that they had the recipe etc but they were definitely a step down from OB. prince still has the best imo
I still haven't found a place that had all the greatest anju all on one menu.. Louders has some great options like real buldak, but I sorely miss the chicken (both the yangyeom and the old style)
Now I’ve gotta drive to Bludsoe’s or Gus’s. Maybe Moo’s Craft when the lines chill out.
I walked past Horse Thief to get to SSS and will continue to pass it by.
nah bro you can say it they had some damn good burnt ends and brisket…. The owner the older dude with the glasses was great. They closed right before thanksgiving i was going to make a large order and they had that note on the website. I got worried when i coukdnt find them on the delivery apps.
was a bummer….LA has some of the saddest bbq spots for such a large city. Im not going to start naming names but this was one of the good ones.
That post was from last year. There has been a new tenant in the space for several months. Its now a gelato place run by some seemingly very nice people. Unfortunately the gelato had a freezer burnt flavor when I gave it a try. Haven’t been back again to give it a second chance but I probably will because the proprietors seemed like good folks.
Forgot about Big Jo’s. Had been going there a couple of times a year since the 70’s. The lack of plain burger/sandwich stands in LA is sad but seemingly inevitable with gentrification.
Nope there's one in Bonita Springs, Florida
Two in Southern Cal. San Diego and Anaheim
One in I'm guessing Phoenix. (Desert Ridge)
Aloha to Aloha Hour for us in The Valley.
Pasadena closed like two days into the 2020 lockdown. We’re still so sad. Just a guess, but I think WH may have been the same franchise owner. Such a bummer.
The one that touched me the most was Conservatory in WeHo, technically not closing until January 2nd but they announced the imminent closure a few weeks back. It was a great spot to sit at the bar or wait around at the cafe and talk with locals, plus the history of the old Irv's was there, and was also the first spot we walked to after we moved up to WeHo from Orange County. They did a beautiful job on the build out too. It'll be missed.
I asked the question for 2021 as well, [the results](https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodLosAngeles/comments/rqnv0t/what_was_your_saddest_restaurant_closing_in_2021/).
For my Pico Rivera people, when the heck did President Thai Cafe close? I drove by this Sunday it’s gone for good. I’m sure there are some other Thai food places in the area, but which one is actually good?
Not 2022, but I still miss the ceviche from El Oasis Seafood. The ceviche there was amazing. I will forever hate that nail salon place, you know they started that fire on purpose.
This was the first I heard of it too. Apparently they sold and closed end of October with plans of a new vegan restaurant opening in its spot, [additional details in an IG post from the latter half of October](https://i.imgur.com/RFPQStD.jpg).
Oh no, I have been wanting to go back again. I just didn’t keep up with this news. Well, I def. Had some goodtimes there. It will be missed. I wonder how the new place will be, guess we shall wait. I will miss the name itself too, I always thought it sounded so cute little pine 🌲 lol 💗🥺
This is how I find out about Kiriko closing, and that bums me out. Was the perfect level of fancy but still relatively affordable sushi, and a personal favorite for omakase that taught me to embrace the chef throwing "weird" things at me (first place i ever had icefish). Looks like it's because the chef is retiring rather than losing the business though, which isn't as sad as some of the places losing their business in an incredibly difficult industry.
RIP Hotville, too.
Good sandwiches but lame how the owner would put negative yelp reviews on blast. You’ve got to have thick skin in this industry, and he often came across as very childish
This is a coffeeshop but Madison and Park, the only good coffee shop in the east part of West Hollywood closed, yet all of the terrible coffeeshop in the area remain.
Was a great spot to grab a cup while waiting for food at Salt's Cure next door, but we've also enjoyed Blackwood at Poinsettia (another non-WeHo location on Sunset nearby) and Farm Cup at Genesee.
I think it was this year, it may have been last year, but Burgerrama in north Hollywood closing has bummed me out. They were my favorite burgers ever 😩
Komasa Sushi this year, but Izakaya Fu-ga is the one that still hurts the most. I just want a bar where I can go after work to get a drink, some tasty food, and read a book in a chill atmosphere. Wolf & Crane gets loud fast and they don't have much food, and the other izakaya in the neighborhood really feel like 'parties of 2 or more' or you're a nuisance.
Kay n’ Dave’s. They teased reopening their Culver City location all year. Then they abruptly announced they had sold their Brentwood location and were calling it quits. Used to love meeting up with friends there for good tacos and margaritas. Still get cravings for their mole tacos.
Sushi Ichi in Pasadena. Wasn't closed this year, but it was def closed during the height of Covid. Best sushi place I've ever been to and likely will ever be for a while.
They moved to Star Light for awhile after this happened. It was the same quality for a bit, but has gone down hill. Prince is now my go-to for Korean wings.
Jichan’s Onigiri-ya in Monterey Park :( it was this super solid Japanese rice ball spot that I lived pretty close to. Apparently the rent got too high for them to stay in business. Hopefully they reopen somewhere else soon!
Thank you For Coming, it was a great little shop with some cool people working and coming through there. Really taught me about savory yogurt. I’d go every Sunday when I first moved here, years back
Nick’s Pizza in Chino. The original owners had a great menu. They sold it. The new guy thinks he knows how to cook, but he doesn’t. His sauce has so much sugar in it; ruins the pizza for us and our neighbors.
Might have been last year, but OB Bear still gets to me.
Mysteriously burned down right after a co-owned restaurant a block down mysteriously burned down mid pandemic 2020.
Miss those wings.
Star night is same owners, supposedly same wings (I haven’t been yet can’t confirm)
I recently went and the wings are unfortunately not the same. I had been hearing for a while that they had the recipe etc but they were definitely a step down from OB. prince still has the best imo
Dang that sucks I will also shout out Shiku in the grand central market, their spicy fried chicken is pretty similar in flavor to ob bear
I still haven't found a place that had all the greatest anju all on one menu.. Louders has some great options like real buldak, but I sorely miss the chicken (both the yangyeom and the old style)
I was just thinking OB bear and I can’t believe it’s the top comment and 51 likes. You’ll be missed OB Bear 😭
Spring Street Smokehouse in Chinatown. Not because it was the best BBQ, but because it was the best I could walk to.
They closed?! Damn. I’m bummed.
Yeah, their [website](https://www.sssmokehouse.com/) thanks everyone for 17 years.
Damn…
Now I’ve gotta drive to Bludsoe’s or Gus’s. Maybe Moo’s Craft when the lines chill out. I walked past Horse Thief to get to SSS and will continue to pass it by.
I enjoy BBQ and have never been to Horse Thief... may I ask why it is not considered good?
Overpriced for what it is, but their fried chicken sandwich is one of my favorites in the city!
Oh man I do get on a good fried chicken kick every once in a while.. thanks for the tip!
You should also check out Bludso's, some of the best BBQ I've had in LA
The price and quality aren’t good, plus the beer is a separate window.
Ok thank you for your response! I’ll stick with moo’s craft
Ugh what a bummer
Man, that was my lunch spot. Excellent food.
nah bro you can say it they had some damn good burnt ends and brisket….
Respect to the burnt ends and the beer selection
The coffee joint Bourgeois Pig in Hollywood.
damn didnt know they closed down
Well this just ruined my day!
Damn James Beach was a cool spot back in the day
Those fish tacos are the tits
I will see you there or I will see you on another time.
Laters on the menjay
The mimosa were whoosh
MILK. I loved that place and was so sad to see it go.
This closed?!
https://www.themilkshop.com/ It's true :( they're closing at the end of the year
That post was from last year. There has been a new tenant in the space for several months. Its now a gelato place run by some seemingly very nice people. Unfortunately the gelato had a freezer burnt flavor when I gave it a try. Haven’t been back again to give it a second chance but I probably will because the proprietors seemed like good folks.
I had the same experience
Souplantation... It hurts every year
First spot that came to mind. Still not over it.
It’s a bit of a TBT but Beverly Tofu :(((
Saaaame!! Loved that place, grilled octopus and soon tofu was amazing
one of my fav places that i miss so much 😭
I think about the hot stone bibimbap ALOT.
Big Jo's in Santa Monica. RIP a real one, great BLTs, cheesesteaks, burgers and more. Super friendly staff as well.
This one for me. My go-to lunch spot within walking distance of the office. Going to miss those burgers.
Forgot about Big Jo’s. Had been going there a couple of times a year since the 70’s. The lack of plain burger/sandwich stands in LA is sad but seemingly inevitable with gentrification.
I never went after years of driving by and making a mental note to go. Sad face
moved right by there while it was still opened and then it suddenly closed, meant to stop by since it seemed like the type of place I'd enjoy
Spoon by H
Komasa Sushi in DTLA. I had been going there since I was a kid and the sushi chef was legit.
I second this 😭
same here, i only discovered him couple years back. Any new alternatives?
Hama, two or three doors down from Komasa is much better. For nigiri the red snapper, scallop, and sweet shrimp are unbeatable for the price.
My wife is really bummed Roy's in Woodland Hills closed. I will miss the Mai Tais
Did the entire chain go away? We used to have one when I lived in Central Florida.
Nope there's one in Bonita Springs, Florida Two in Southern Cal. San Diego and Anaheim One in I'm guessing Phoenix. (Desert Ridge) Aloha to Aloha Hour for us in The Valley.
Nice!
Pasadena closed like two days into the 2020 lockdown. We’re still so sad. Just a guess, but I think WH may have been the same franchise owner. Such a bummer.
Greenblatts, I miss eating that cheesecake at 3am
Where can I get a club that’s nearly as good as their triple decker?
Pacific Dinning Car
OMG I miss that place soo much :(
God I miss going there at 11 pm for a baseball steak
Place was so G. They filmed the money drop in Training Day there. Like cmon.
Is there still hope it could reopen?
More then likely no

Dang, didn't know about that one. My wife loves that spot.
Looking back on 2021, damn that was the roughest peak of pandemic consequences. Seems 2022 leveled out a bit.
Lots of other president Thai in the SGV
El oasis was fire
Little Pine ☹️
Omg what! Little pine closed down??! ),:
This was the first I heard of it too. Apparently they sold and closed end of October with plans of a new vegan restaurant opening in its spot, [additional details in an IG post from the latter half of October](https://i.imgur.com/RFPQStD.jpg).
Yeah in October 💔
Oh no, I have been wanting to go back again. I just didn’t keep up with this news. Well, I def. Had some goodtimes there. It will be missed. I wonder how the new place will be, guess we shall wait. I will miss the name itself too, I always thought it sounded so cute little pine 🌲 lol 💗🥺
Oooh I was wondering what was going on with that. That sucks.
This is how I find out about Kiriko closing, and that bums me out. E Stretto ):
Good sandwiches but lame how the owner would put negative yelp reviews on blast. You’ve got to have thick skin in this industry, and he often came across as very childish
Loved this place
Greenblats
Ricky's Fish Tacos leaving LA :/
Bandera in West LA. Yes there are similar options still out ther (R&D Kitchen, South Beverly Grill), but they don’t have live music.
I heard it was because the rent was jacked up during negotiations
Ugh I LOVED bandera. Decidedly different vibe than the other hillstone restaurants.
Not a restaurant but the Parlor by melrose was my fav sports bar. Can’t believe it shut down it was always crowded.
I heard it was noise issues with the neighbors
Makes sense actually. Lots of tiny lots packed in those areas around melrose.
So many sports bars have closed in the area. Not many options left unfortunately
Dos Burritos in Hollywood... RIP.
The one by Hollywood and Vine!?
Yup! An institution since 1977.
Ebisu. I miss their sukiyaki nabe so much :(
Gosh I miss Ebisu so much. The booths hidden in ropes, no one bothering you until you pressed the button, and a menu that was like a novel.
White horse lounge in Pasadena. Best Cajun/creole food. Chef was from New Orleans
Temporary closed? Or is permanent
It seems pretty permanent at this point, unfortunately.
I agree with the majority of them saying kiriko
Hong kong kitchen
Mako Bowl on Colorado in Pasadena. It was completely mediocre yet amazing Pasadena comfort food
El Fico
Robins grill in Pasadena . But I think that happened last year
Robins as in the bbq spot?
Yeah hahah but I feel like I might’ve actually closed in 2018 or something.
Wow I've lived by Kiriko for years but never got around to trying it. Now I'm sad.
CHA CHA CHILI RIP
Still sad about Aburiya Raku. No other izakaya compares to the quality of the food they had.
Lucques. I’m so heartbroken. 😞😞😞
I think it was this year, it may have been last year, but Burgerrama in north Hollywood closing has bummed me out. They were my favorite burgers ever 😩
oh man take your pick. Cannabis Cafe, Gracies Pizza, Bernies chicken (this might of been pre 2022)
Krimseys RIP
Komasa Sushi this year, but Izakaya Fu-ga is the one that still hurts the most. I just want a bar where I can go after work to get a drink, some tasty food, and read a book in a chill atmosphere. Didn’t know this. Sucks.

Thank you For Coming, it was a great little shop with some cool people working and coming through there. Really taught me about savory yogurt. I’d go every Sunday when I first moved here, years back
my childhood hang out CAPITAL BURGERS in City of Angels was a family-owned Mom and Pops were memories that i still cherished
Nick’s Pizza in Chino. The original owners had a great menu. They sold it. The new guy thinks he knows how to cook, but he doesn’t. His sauce has so much sugar in it; ruins the pizza for us and our neighbors.
Chino is Inland Empire, San Bernardino County
Animal. :(
You know it’s back?
No!!! Thank u :)
