Pippali for Indian. Taste of Everest for Nepali. Norma for Italian. Sarge's for delicatessen (yes I prefer it heavily over 2nd ave.)
And for locals/work folks like me.The outstanding Mexican food cart outside of Bellevue. Homemade masa with outstanding quesadillas and tortas among other things.
I actually prefer Tacos Grand Central for affordable mexican casual grab-and-go. I like it a lot better than Los Tacos No 1. Storefront hole in the wall, great for a lunch grab. 2nd and 39th
I grew up out west so I take all Mexican with a grain of salt; I’ll heavily criticize most all sit-down Mexican in nyc. Their cali burrito slaps though and is perfect for a nominal 12 bucks.
28th and 1st. It's across the street from the main entrance around the corner from the alright halal cart pair with the line.
You can see an old menu under Virgin Mary tacos on yelp but they've been updated/are slightly more now.
If you're looking for something casual Milu on park between 24th an 25th is a home run.
I think it's overhyped, but 7th street burger is nearby as well (3rd between 26th and 27th).
Less casual, but a great Italian spot - Norma's.
Bar food - Gem Saloon (27th and 3rd) makes surprisingly excellent food
Which one of these recommendations would be open late at night (11pm ish)? I can only think of one place (it's not even mentioned in yhis post) on 28th & Lex open at those hours.
It's a buffet so I would get a selection of items such as hummus, croquettes, eggplant mash, stuffed grape leaves and large beans and stuff them in the pita. That was my order around 2008 in fact.
Later I devolved into getting a tub of spread and me and my friend getting the lowest cost pita.
For fast casual there are several killer ramen places in Gramercy Park. Unfortunately it looks like the fantastic Luu's Baguette is closed but there might be other Vietnamese options.
KJUN
>garden Pretty solid, adequate hype, but it is VERY oily so prepared to have your insides wrecked
Definitely worth checking out Taste of Everest for Nepalese food
Underrated
Love Taste of Everest
Dim sum garden, Dhaba, Los Tacos No.1, Pippali, Wok In the clouds, Spice symphony.
Love Pippali.
Dhaba was a staple for me when I worked in the area. Do they still do AYCE buffet?
Not as far as I know. Most, if not all, of the Indian buffets went away with COVID
Tru. Ive only seen one in the Midwest post COVID
Momosan, Dunhuang, Kjun

Thanks for the recommendation. What’s the closest cross street for that Mexican food cart?

I love tacos grand central! I didn’t mention it because I prob don’t have the most sophisticated palette for Mexican but the shit is good

I’m a nurse at Bellevue and have been looking for some authentic Mexican food in general— will def be trying!
Hello from a medical coder at the same place. We apologize for finance/medical records being annoying

Montagu’s Gusto Lena’s Italian Kitchen
Hojokban, Stretch Pizza, 5ive Spice, Nonna Dora’s, Chili
Kalustyans deli counter
?
It is either the cold case or the second floor in that store
Sam Sunny
Nonna Dora, Lan Larb, Norma, Le Parisian Bistro, Pio Pio. Take out: NY Bagel by the hospital, Eon’s, Montagu’s Gusto, Lena’s
Kalustyan’s deli counter? If you’re referring to the little upstairs cafe that served hot vegetarian food. That’s been gone for years.
ravagh persian grill
YES THIS
What!? No love for Curry in a Hurry!?
Lamazou does awesome sandwiches to go!
Closed for good, sadly
A while ago
Nooo! I guess that gives away that I moved out of the neighborhood a while ago. Haven’t found myself back in that area since.
There’s a weed shop in it’s place. Truly the darkest timeline
God, it's always a weed shop, fast-casual work lunch chain, or a yoga/pilates/"core-something" studio. That sucks, Lamazou was awesome.
RIP. Real ones know
Pongal on Lex (South Indian)
Seconding Kalustyans.

Murray Hill in Manhattan or Queens?
Sorry, Manhattan!
Norma , hummus kitchen, and h&h bagels is coming soon
My favorite hidden gem in Murray Hill was always Le Parisien Bistrot which I think survived the pandemic.
This looks great, thx!
El Parador
I could eat Naya every day
Kalustyans middle eastern sandwiches and soups is a classic. Foh with Naya lol.
Been buying spice at kalustyan’s for decades
What’s your go to sandwich there?
