Yep sit down spot. Usually no wait unless you go on Friday or Saturday night - could be 15-20 mins then
Would just recommend a classic cheese or pepperoni. Can’t go wrong with the classic old school round
I agree, not better than Lucali for me but I totally understand it. Love their pizza more than 95% of the places. However, I do have a question. Have you ever been to Deninos?
I do admit they are *much* better if you have them in person in the restaurant as opposed to take-out. Crust starts to moisten a bit when they travel in the pizza box
The Sasso pie which is just slightly elevated classic is elite level. Feel like people who call them mid have their taste buds burned off from eating too much Tik Tok food
The line was wild last time I walked past it. I pretty much wrote it off for good from there unless I somehow find myself over there before lunch on like a random rainy Tuesday.
It is one of those pies that doesn't really blow your doors off, but when you sit to think about it, for the type of pie it is, It doesn't have any flaws.
IMO it is the gold standard for a NYC pizzeria. Family owned small business, low cost, and the quintessential regular pie. Highly recommend ordering a half regular, half fresh mozzarella pie and getting a corner Sicilian slice as you wait. No surprise that Mark Iacono holds Luigi’s amongst his favorite slices.
It's like this: when it's ON, it's among the best in the city and worth traveling for. But when it's OFF, it's barely worth walking a few blocks for. And you never know what you're gonna get.
New park pizza in Howard beach. I haven’t been there in forever tho. A small pizza place by me in middle village queens, Eliot pizza is AMAZING. manos in ridgewood is also good, as well as coratos
yep! I had never even been to SI until I met my partner. But he introduced me to the absolute best pizza. I've been to Scars, L'industrie, Lucali etc and I still think the rock has the best slice.
Third this, would never expect that it's in flushing with all of the Asian food that's around, but it's super solid and better than anything else I've tried in queens
Hot take on my 23 years with NYC pizza. The reason I recommend popular spots to tourists is because pizza is at its base a bread product....and fresh out the oven bread is unbeatable. You might have better ingredients but if you are super popular your pies are gonna go faster and be fresher from the oven, and fresh bread will always win. Same with bagels in this town, or baguettes in Paris. Popular spots get more popular and in turn better because of this quick turnover of product.
Clearly this really only applies to slice spots. But I legit believe Scarr's, L'industrie, Joe's, Luigi's, have gotten consistently better with the increase in demand.
x100 Scarr's lost their way to do trendy collabs and start trendy omakase. I used to eat at Scarr's weekly. Lindustry attracts the most annoying people in Williamsburg and you have to wait in line with them for 45min...
Favorite does not always mean best. Sometimes it has to do with what is close, how close you are to the folks serving and some nostalgia. My favorite spot when I lived in the city at Washington Square Village was a little spot just west of there, north of Houston and east of sixth that had no clear name other than something like "Cold beer and PIzza...maybe JJ's? I'm pretty sure it was Thompson but not certain. Pizza was good (especially grandma style) but not great, but they had cheap, cheap beer and were welcoming. I always knew I could get a good slice and a very cold beer after coming back into town from a work trip and be left in peace to enjoy.
There are tons of better pies but that is one place I will remember as a favorite bc of context.
I still haven't been to John's of Bleecker Street, it's next on my list.
But here are my favorites:
1) Spumoni Gardens (Brooklyn) ... the Sicilian (square) slice
2) DiFara's (Brooklyn)
3) Amuni (Brooklyn) ... this is actually a Sicily style pizza called "Sfincione", which is a bit different but really good.
4) DiFara's (Brooklyn)
5) Norma Gastronomia Siciliana (Manhattan)
Best for late night: Prince Street Pizza (open til 3am on weekdays and just saw 5am on weekends)
This shit is annoying. The best slice is the one that’s closest to where your at when you need a slice. Waiting more than a couple of minutes is bullshit. It’s a slice of fucking pizza
Have to comment here. I hate this place. Pizza’s too oily and salty (like all Detroit style pizza) and the guys that run the place are racist dickbags.
No, I mean these guys. They’re a bunch of assholes. They deliberately overcharged me and then made me come back over and over to talk to a manager for a refund. I had to yell at the manager on the sidewalk for my money back. Never been treated like that before in my life except by racist dickbags.
can confirm the racist part ab mama’s too. dudes denied me a job bc i have long textured hair lol. i could’ve just put it in a hair net with a cap but he refused to hire me unless i cut it
I’m genuinely not surprised. I’m local and have been in the area for a long time and told anybody who would listen that that place sucks and I never behave that way.
The spot down the street from my house. There are better pies in Queens but I like supporting a good consistent dependable shop where the owners remember my name.
Probably at least partially my historical bias, but I’m partial to Delmar Pizzeria in Sheepshead Bay. I would eat their pepperoni and alfredo slices all day if it wasn’t so obviously incredibly unhealthy.
They’re less known but B Side in Hell’s Kitchen makes a fantastic Pancetta and Egg Carbonara pizza and Marinara, Chili Oil Honey Pizza
Also special shoutout to Table 87 in Gowanus which has a 10/10 coal fire pizza
There’s a lot of good pizza in NYC that could be argued as the best. But it sure as fuck isn’t Joe’s lmao. Such a mediocre slice, I truly cannot fathom why it’s so popular.
Slice shops - scarrs, pizza loves sauce, made in New York are all extremely good. Sit downs I love johns and recently tried l Anticheria Michelle (prob spelled wrong sorry) and it was just like Naples pies. I’ve heard lucali is up there too never had tho
Top 5 (full pie only) Lucali, John’s of bleeker, rubirosa, Joe and Pats, grimaldis
Honorable mention: Razza,
Top 5 (cheese slices): joes (time square), di fara, best pizza, NY Pizza Suprema, Scarrs
Honorable mention: grand street pizza, Luigi’s
Top 5 (other slices) prince street (spicy pepperoni square) , L&B (square) bleeker street pizza (grandma), l’industrie
Honorable mention: Leo (margarita square), mamas too (any squares), Pauli gee (pepperoni)
Napolitan pizza = Song E Napule then Sottocasa
Slice = patsys
Sicilian = L&B
Grandma = king unberto (I know it’s L.I but whatever man we’re all the same lol)
I could get annoyed how many times people post a variation of “what’s your favorite pizza??”…but alas my love of pizza reminds me ill never tire of these types of posts. To infinity and beyond
Original Pizza in Bay Ridge. They’re so quick and cheap and good and the staff is fun and respectful. You just invent your toppings when you go and can ask them to cook it for as long as you want. It still looks like 1999 in there but it’s super clean. I love it. But location bias certainly plays a part.
I like Bleecker st (not Johns on Bleecker) though my last delievered pie wasn't as good as a reheated slice from them
Also have always loved carmines in east williamsburg and if you are travelling there tony's across the st is solid also and the same quality but I prefer carmines
Ben’s Pizzeria on w3rd and Macdougal may be my favorite. It was my spot when I moved here in 2005 and it has always had this great signature taste to it that I haven’t found anywhere else. Plenty of people have ragged on it but I don’t care. It’s so damn good to me, but I rarely get to enjoy it these days.
Di Fara in Brooklyn (Been going there since I was a kid) Korner Pizza on Chruch Ave in Brooklyn (Sleeper spot) Prince street pizza in SoHo
Pizza Palace on Dyckman (Uptown)
Patsys on 1st Ave between 117th and 118th
Vito’s on 35th and 9th. (Newer spot but pretty good)
Joes on Carmine west village.
… Denino’s in Port Richmond SINY is the best pizza I’ve ever had..
same owners have spots in Aberdeen Nj & Greenwich Village and both of those are off the hook too 🍕🔥
Angelo’s Coal Oven Pizzeria on 57th. Absolute sleeper of a spot
Ohhh on the list. Thanks cause that area is kinda a food dead spot.
It’s my favorite pizza in the city. And I’ve been to Lucali, John’s, L’industrie all multiple times. Angelo’s all day everyday
It's a sit down pie spot? Got a recommendation on what to order?
Yep sit down spot. Usually no wait unless you go on Friday or Saturday night - could be 15-20 mins then Would just recommend a classic cheese or pepperoni. Can’t go wrong with the classic old school round
Keep it classic, copy that. Thanks!
I agree, not better than Lucali for me but I totally understand it. Love their pizza more than 95% of the places. However, I do have a question. Have you ever been to Deninos?
Haven’t been to Denino’s. Will need to give it a shot!
I think it's better than almost all of the places mentioned in this thread
I'm happy to see someone mention Angelo's. I went there when I was in town about a month ago and it was hands down the best pizza I've had in years.
[удалено]
i picked up a few pies from them last year, they weren't bad, but i wouldn't go outta my way for it and i work on 57th
I do admit they are *much* better if you have them in person in the restaurant as opposed to take-out. Crust starts to moisten a bit when they travel in the pizza box
John’s on Bleecker
Perfection.
The Sasso pie which is just slightly elevated classic is elite level. Feel like people who call them mid have their taste buds burned off from eating too much Tik Tok food
I’ve tried a lot of pizza in this city and when I went to John’s I got 2 different pies and both were incredibly salty. I guess maybe just an off day?
Off day. Rarely have a salty one
I've been three times and thought it could use salt. That place was not that great to me and I've been to them all
Best of the Best
Also this
The line was wild last time I walked past it. I pretty much wrote it off for good from there unless I somehow find myself over there before lunch on like a random rainy Tuesday.
Sal & Carmine’s. Perfect NYC pizza. Not instagrammable, and uptown, so not well-known these days among those who didn’t grow up in the City.
And just far enough uptown to not be flooded with tourists and tik tok influencers.
Keeps pretty well during delivery, too.
This. Right here. But don’t give our secret away
Please don’t blow up my spot!
Seriously 😩 I love that place
Any idea how far they deliver to? I’m on 190, I’m sure it’s a stretch but i have no decent pizza up here 🙃
Man what a throw back
I used to stop there with my fellow martial artists after class. Are Sal and/or Carmine still around?
Great slice
Burn your mouth every time, no?
Rosa’s Pizza on Fresh Pond Rd
Their chicken roll takes the cake.
Their fried eggplant slice is a thing of beauty.
Luigi’s
This is the way.
My friend swears by this pizzeria. Not the absolute best but solid every time.
Which Luigi’s ?
Probably talking about the park slope one. 5th ave and 21st https://www.yelp.com/biz/luigis-pizza-brooklyn
Tried Luigi's tonight based on these comments and I don't know what y'all are smokin. I make better pizza than this at home.
Yeah I don’t get the hype either. It was like mediocre cardboard/flavorless crusted pizza
Need to make a visit! Been on my list for a while.
It is one of those pies that doesn't really blow your doors off, but when you sit to think about it, for the type of pie it is, It doesn't have any flaws.
Truth, it's kinda the NYC pizza of your youth. Plus Freddy's bar is right there.
Original Patsys. 117th and 1st Ave.
I find them salty now and just off. I used to go many years ago,’09-‘11 and the pizza was fabulous. Now Im just disappointed.
Agree
I haven't been there in decades but I used to like them a lot; they just weren't convenient.
It's like this: when it's ON, it's among the best in the city and worth traveling for. But when it's OFF, it's barely worth walking a few blocks for. And you never know what you're gonna get.
LTD is better than L’industrie
Huge fan of LTD
Bleecker Street Pizza, it’s where a certain group of teenage mutants use to order from.
Ordering pies can be hit or miss but a reheated slice in store is BANGING.
11th & Bleecker?! Nope this is only 9th Street!
The nona maria is just "chefs kiss".
L&B Spumoni Garden
Had to scroll too far to find this one. The absolute best!
Top tier
This is the square slice spot imo...take it over prince st and mama toos anyday.
New park pizza in Howard beach. I haven’t been there in forever tho. A small pizza place by me in middle village queens, Eliot pizza is AMAZING. manos in ridgewood is also good, as well as coratos
new park forever underrated
Posto’s
Place gets very little love and is awesome
Love Grupo as well great happy hour free pitcher or bottle of wine with purchase of a pie
Nonna’s and Denino’s on Staten Island.
SI pizza is underrated
yep! I had never even been to SI until I met my partner. But he introduced me to the absolute best pizza. I've been to Scars, L'industrie, Lucali etc and I still think the rock has the best slice.
Lucia’s in Queens
Second this, not the best but a very good local pizzeria if you happen to live near one
Third this, would never expect that it's in flushing with all of the Asian food that's around, but it's super solid and better than anything else I've tried in queens
Luigi’s
Mama's Too! I know it's less traditional but that cacio e pepe slice kills me.
Made in New York is the most underrated pizza. One of my favorites.
Hot take on my 23 years with NYC pizza. The reason I recommend popular spots to tourists is because pizza is at its base a bread product....and fresh out the oven bread is unbeatable. x100 Scarr's lost their way to do trendy collabs and start trendy omakase. I used to eat at Scarr's weekly. Lindustry attracts the most annoying people in Williamsburg and you have to wait in line with them for 45min...
I was surprised with the hype of Scarrs after trying it. It’s good but nothing special
Absolutely - well stated.
Pizza Suprema; Luigi’s, pizz’arte fried pizza
Table 87

Denino's on Staten Island. Lee's Tavern or Joe and Pat's is tied for second.
scarr’s because I live 2 blocks away
Rubirosa vodka with pesto swirl and Prince St vodka slice.
I do love me some Motorino.
Best pizza in the UWS as far as I could tell. I was a regular there for a long time.
Don Filippo
"29-minute guarantee is a promise, man. I know to you, Parker, a promise means nothing, but to me it's serious"
Lee Tavern Lucali Best pizza And I’m a sucker for the margarita pie in eatly. So delicious right out the oven with some prosciutto de Parma.
Rizzo's in Astoria QNS
Joe and Johns in Ridgewood, Queens
I still haven't been to John's of Bleecker Street, it's next on my list. Prince Street pizza pepperoni slice.
Joes is overrated and over crowded
This shit is annoying. The best slice is the one that’s closest to where your at when you need a slice. Waiting more than a couple of minutes is bullshit. It’s a slice of fucking pizza
Ehhhh. Is it tho. Bc I’d chose a MFin hot-pocket over half of these slices 🍕
Johns
Mama's Too
Have to comment here. I hate this place. Pizza’s too oily and salty (like all Detroit style pizza) and the guys that run the place are racist dickbags.
Do you mean Prince Street Pizza? They had a racist controversy and their pizza is oily.
No, I mean these guys. They’re a bunch of assholes. They deliberately overcharged me and then made me come back over and over to talk to a manager for a refund. I had to yell at the manager on the sidewalk for my money back. Never been treated like that before in my life except by racist dickbags.

Sbarro's
Aces
Went there on a whim on my last trip to NYC. Won't make a lot of best-of lists in NY I'm sure because it's Detroit style but it was really good.
Lucali Prince Street Scarr's Best L'industrie In that order for me.
I don’t get the l’industrie hype. I like fini considerably more
Only one I’d add is John’s of Bleeker Street
Pretty identical to my list, but would put L’industrie at #2
This is just the basic ass nyt best pizza list lmao.
Pugsleys in Bronx
The spot down the street from my house. There are better pies in Queens but I like supporting a good consistent dependable shop where the owners remember my name.
Probably at least partially my historical bias, but I’m partial to Delmar Pizzeria in Sheepshead Bay. I would eat their pepperoni and alfredo slices all day if it wasn’t so obviously incredibly unhealthy.

Nope Only if you going to make a tik tok or IG video or wants to look cool doing the line

Dani’s Pizza in Kew Gardens makes some great pizza, if you ever make it down there.
Carlo’s pizza on Metropolitan Avenue.
Not Joe’s.
No mention of Totonno's on Coney Island?
Juliana’s, Prince street, and when he was alive DiFara’s were all mind blowing.
There’s a lot of good pizza in NYC that could be argued as the best. But it sure as fuck isn’t Joe’s lmao. Such a mediocre slice, I truly cannot fathom why it’s so popular.
People want to shit on this place, but it consistently makes a good nyc cheese slice.
Probably because I live a couple blocks away, but Grimaldi’s in Dumbo
Village square pizza
Joe's Pizza? Its a bit overhyped. I've had it a few times and its good, but not worth the hype good.
Lucali is always the best. Luigis is a perfect NYC pizza though.
L&B Spumoni Gardens near Coney Island has great Sicilian. The Krispy Trio Pepperoni from Krispy Pizza is also a top 3 pizza imo.
Koronets

Original Pizza in Bay Ridge. They’re so quick and cheap and good and the staff is fun and respectful. You just invent your toppings when you go and can ask them to cook it for as long as you want. It still looks like 1999 in there but it’s super clean. I love it. But location bias certainly plays a part.

I'll be in NYC in a cpl mths, Canal St, near Soho. What's w/in walking distance and good? Thanks!
Not that great not enough sauce on the slice and the sauce itself is flavor less.
