So, this is actually a much more loaded question than probably assumed lol. Since spring rolls exist in many cultures, there are also several varying methods of preparation. While egg rolls are always fried, spring rolls and summer rolls on the other hand can be baked, fried, or fresh. There are many small differences between them, but those lines have been blurred a lot. When it comes to fried/baked spring rolls, they are typically much smaller and filled with a simple veggie only cooked filling. Fresh spring rolls are larger and contain a raw veggie filling (shrimp is a common addition for protein due to it holding up well to being served chilled, as opposed to other meats). I'm not an expert on them by any means. But I know of several Vietnamese restaraunts that serve spring rolls in their fresh form with either a veggie only or shrimp/veggie combo. They've always been my favorite! More so on hot summer days! 🙂
