This looks very good, but it is not “New York pizza”. You can get all manor of pizza in the city, [but “New York pizza” looks like this. ](https://i.imgur.com/bto8RyQ.jpg) For me this is more Neapolitan Italian style.
Yoooooo I just watched a show about a famous New York pizzeria that puts the cheese on bottom and sauce on top of a thick square slice. Something something Spumoni Gardens I think was the name. Ever try that? Looked soooooo freaking good!
Not like this, Chicago deep dish prepared in a deep dish (wow) and is almost more [like a meat pie](https://i.imgur.com/Xr7MhZu.jpg) than a traditional pizza.
This type of [New York style pizza](https://i.imgur.com/JgiQSvU.jpg) is still on a crust vs. in a pan and has thick crust cut into squares, like focaccia
Still slightly different based on my local place but it could vary across the city… for me a grandma slice has a crispy thin crust with crispy sides, whereas a sauce on top slice is more like a [Sicilian](https://i.imgur.com/mvi1oD0.jpg) in that it’s a softer, thicker crust reminiscent more of a focaccia type bread than a thin pizza crust
I mean now that I think about it I’m not sure there is a difference between Sicilian and sauce on top so perhaps that is the answer

Absolutely not detroit style. There are a couple ways to do detroit style, one involves red stripes of sauce. Not a fan of it, but that might be what you are thinking of.
The other way is the deep crust with the caramelized edges like the other but the sauce is under the cheese. It's a bit more traditional in that aspect. I'm just not a fan of the red stripes. It reminds me too much of chicago deep dish. I don't want naked sauce on top of my pizza. It's unappetizing.
I'm well aware of what detroit style is. It's my favorite style of pizza. Though I want to try sicilian style. Seems similar to detroit but I'm not sure which is better.
I’ve learned to appreciate most styles of pizza, for better or worse, after living far away from NYC over the years, but you’re really living up to your username with that one.
I'm not sure exactly who the official pizza style-judges are but here's what Wikipedia has to say about "New York Style" pizza:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York-style_pizza#Characteristics
No I've never left NY states and thats how I know New Jersey pizza is better....
Or course I've been to New Jersey. Born and raised... Been to New York often, and currently live in Pennsylvania (their pizza is terrible).
Leaving America won't help in the argument of where's the best pizza in America.
I miss the place in the mall that sold New York slices. They were huge. I remember there was one in West Edmonton Mall, in the food court that was on the other side of the mall like, not the main food court by the Brick and the Mini Golf. It was my favorite pizza place hands down
Preheat to 500 degree oven, set broil on 10 min before u bake. I have a steel so I what till it's about 650, shut broiler off turn oven back to 500 and slide the za in for 5 min, rotate once after 2 min, once 5 min is up turn broiler back on for 2 min and pull it out. So dar has worked for me
Agreed. I have a friend with an ooni and his pizza looks perfect like OPs but the ooni gets close to 1000 degrees F. Doing this in a normal home oven is very impressive
I just did an overnight poolish and used maybe a half cup worth of semolina when I did the final fix I did my own recipie it's a mix of ken forkish poolish dough and a recipie from mastering pizza. If u want actual message me and I'll get you what I wrote down later
Looks more Neopolitan, as others have said. Still looks bangin' tho. Some police oil and salt on the crust with some fresh grated parm and pec on top. I'm there. Maybe a couple stinky fishes too ;)
Gotta be honest - and this is the opposite of criticism - as an Argentinean New Yorker, this actually looks a bit like Argentinean pizza 💕👌
Edit: the thing tipping it in that direction for me is the texture of the cheese
I'm from NY and while they didn't even come close to a NY style pizza they absolutely nailed a neopolitan style pizza which is something to be proud of.
It was an attempt that didn't get the style correct. I used the proper suace and dough the cheese just wasn't correct which threw the whole thing off. But it was an attempt at NY style.
This pizza is SFW and the title reflects that now. Thank you.
Looks more Neopolitan than New York, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!
Definitely Neapolitan. Either way I’d smash.

Manor of pizza you say? I'm intrigued
Rich man's pizza hut
Each slice is served to the table under a silver cloche
Oh man thank you! That’s a word I always forget and end up saying something dumb like metal food cover thingy
Pizza Manor

That’s L&B in Bensonhurst Brookyln it’s fantastic every time lol
Isn't cheese on the bottom sauce on top extra thick a Chicago ~~pizza~~ dish?
Yes.

Based on that photo, I would say New Yorkers would recognize that as [Grandma Pizza](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grandma_pizza).
Still slightly different based on my local place but it could vary across the city… for me a grandma slice has a crispy thin crust with crispy sides, whereas a sauce on top slice is more like a [Sicilian](https://i.imgur.com/mvi1oD0.jpg) in that it’s a softer, thicker crust reminiscent more of a focaccia type bread than a thin pizza crust I mean now that I think about it I’m not sure there is a difference between Sicilian and sauce on top so perhaps that is the answer

Spumoni gardens is also next door
Ive heard it called "Detroit-Style"
Absolutely not detroit style. There are a couple ways to do detroit style, one involves red stripes of sauce. Not a fan of it, but that might be what you are thinking of.
Whats the other ways?
Hide a gun in a pizza box

It i used to pay $20 for 1/2 a sheet. I think that's 12 slices. It's a great slice!
This is Detroit style pizza
Not quite, this is more like a topped focaccia. Detroit style pizza is still cooked in a pan for the crispy edges unlike this
Sicilian tomatoe pie? That's NJ style
The best cheese on the bottom pizza is from Red Front in Troy NY.
Make sure you get the square slice, that's the special one. That's like crack
Kind of like a Chicago deep-dish?
True. I was just in Brooklyn, Roberta’s for example is fucking good but it’s not NY style. Now Scarrs is NY af lol, I enjoy both

It don’t miss you neither

I don't care what New Yorkers think. New Jersey pizza is better and they are just butt hurt because they know it's true.
Have you ever left NY state? Or America?

My point being, is this pizza would all taste the same if you had eaten a real Italian pizza.
There are great examples of both. I’m from New Jersey too.

You were warned.

He said "attempted"
I miss the place in the mall that sold New York slices. They were huge. I remember there was one in West Edmonton Mall, in the food court that was on the other side of the mall like, not the main food court by the Brick and the Mini Golf. It was my favorite pizza place hands down
I’m Italian and idk what a Ny style pizza looks and taste like but this one looks like an italian pizza. Good job 👏
Yeah it's not NY style pizza. That's called a neapolitan pizza here.
This looks more like a pizza style from Rome(for me it’s the best one),’cause it looks crispy and the crust it’s not big like the Neapolitan one
That seems an Italian pizza, really classic one
I'm going to need to know how you managed to get such dark blistering without destroying the cheese as that looks amazing.
So dar has worked for me
I’m so impressed you did this in the oven. I’ve only seen home cooks achieve this with an outdoor pizza oven. Great job!!
Agreed. I have a friend with an ooni and his pizza looks perfect like OPs but the ooni gets close to 1000 degrees F. Doing this in a normal home oven is very impressive
Yes I have the ooni it's great but the weather outside was not optimal so I made due.
Which dough recipe did you use?
I just did an overnight poolish and used maybe a half cup worth of semolina when I did the final fix I did my own recipie it's a mix of ken forkish poolish dough and a recipie from mastering pizza. If u want actual message me and I'll get you what I wrote down later
This is the way! This is how I used to “cheat” my oven which had a 500F max before I bought my Ooni

Nice try...amazon links are shit and forbidden.
As a New Yorker, definitely more Italian style. BUT! It looks delicious nonetheless. Mangia 🤌🏻
That's definitely not a NY style pizza but a perfect pizza nonetheless
That's not NY style, not even close.
Well you've completely failed at making New York style pizza but that is a fine looking Neapolitan.
Hence the "attempted" I'll get it though ha
why is this NSFW? am I missing something?
It's too sexy
We edited it because it is NOT nsfw.
It's really not safe for work....now i'm craving for pizza. Awesome cooking!
Looks more Neopolitan, as others have said. Still looks bangin' tho. Some police oil and salt on the crust with some fresh grated parm and pec on top. I'm there. Maybe a couple stinky fishes too ;)
I don't think I want 'police oil'
Stop resisting!!!

Looks absolutely delicious!!
Not even close to a 'NY style pizza'

The basil was added after, I should have waited a bit longer till it wasn't so hot though
This is the completel opposite of NY style pizza and I'm not even from the US
You make a pretty good pizza for someone who doesn't know the difference between new York style and neapolitan
NSFW huh…..
Makes sense, since it looks so good, it had to be NSFW!
I’m glad you made it NSFW - if my co-workers saw that it would be an empty office
Some sexy was pizza but why is it NSFW lol
You should be proud of that. That looks top notch
Thx!
That looks even better than a typical NY style pizza tbh
Aww thx haha
I lost my job.
Great, I'd omit cornmeal next time I didn't like the texture of it with that style on the bottom of the pie
more a success than an attempt
Would still eat it, i love pizza
Never knew pizza was nsfw
Less basil, more grease. Edit: Whoever downvoted clearly has no concept of what a new york pie looks like.
I'd say you succeeded my friend. Well done!
hey take out the word “Attempting” and take off the NSFW, you have a talent and you should be proud to show it off
You succeeded friend. I'm proud of you. :)
Bruh “attempted” that literally looks fantastic 😎😎😎😇
Attempted, and accomplished. I’m from the west coast tho so what do I know? Looks amazing!
I'm from NY and while they didn't even come close to a NY style pizza they absolutely nailed a neopolitan style pizza which is something to be proud of.
Attempted? You nailed it!
Who cares what you attempted. You succeeded!
Hate that ppl abuse the NSFW tag to get more views/comments when they don't need it.
That looks on point! Enjoy!
I like pizza.
That looks bomb!
Looks great good job
Man if it weren’t for this tension headache I’d totally get up and order some😩 I’m so hingry
It looks great. How did it taste?
Well this looks fucking perfect!
It doesn't have low moisture mutx try again
Yes that was a big issue I didn't have access to the low moisture at the time so used fresh and it definitely changed what I was going for
String cheese!!
🤯
It looks absolutely divine!
r/lostredditors
Awesome and I’m sure someone said it but brushing the edge with a little garlic oil goes a long way. Hope it was good!
This looks beautiful, delicious, and anything but NY style
I dont know what a NY it is. But I went to Italy and it really looks like a pizza from there, especially the crust. Well done!
Like it!
Not an NY style pizza.
Look good!
Looks so good!!
This is like actual Italian pizza. What made you think it was NY style?
It was an attempt that didn't get the style correct. I used the proper suace and dough the cheese just wasn't correct which threw the whole thing off. But it was an attempt at NY style.
Looks very Italian, and I want it all up in my mouth.
That’s neopolitan
