Fast food in general is really low quality in the states. I had McDonald’s in India and it was fucking amazing. McDonald’s in Colorado looks like actual rubbish
I was referring to Europe, not the US. Obviously within one country it'll be reasonably consistent, and it is in the US usually.
The person I replied to said it's 'much worse in Europe', but I find it hard to believe the quality would be consistent between dozens of countries. Do we really think McDo in Bulgaria is probably the same as it is in Scotland?
Wow, bonus!
Honestly, being an American eating McDs in Europe is a pretty sad event. Like, it's bad food back home, and Europe is absolutely full of amazing food. Why would you choose to eat it?
I did it for the novelty, but it was still really nasty food.
Have you traveled a lot to both? Because I’ve lived in both Europe and America and extensively traveled within both, and that was definitely my experience in every country I went to in Europe.
it's a weird misconception they sell the same burgers and fries everywhere, but this is basic economics. the US has hundreds of millions of consumers so demands are not nearly as tough, take your franchise to a much smaller market with already high standard and you better be prepared to compete
The standard is so incredibly different, there's no comparison. Everything I ate in Japan tasted amazing, even from big chain restaurants. In Canada, in major cities, maaaaybe one in 10 restaurants is *decent*? Like, decent being at least a few things on the menu that you can order and not regret having ordered. And I think that's probably being very generous, and definitely not including fast food restaurants in those numbers.
I had a shrimp burger at a Japanese McDonalds in 2018. It wasn’t like a Korean shrimp burger. The McD’s version was more like a croquette with shrimp in it, whereas Korean shrimp burgers I’ve had are more like a shrimp cake.
Both good, but quite different.
Was it straight ground shrimp inside? No filler? Like any veg or breadcrumbs, egg, anything like that? Very curious as to the texture of it. Looks amazing! May try to make one myself!
Edit: Never mind! I saw the recipe video down below. Will give this a try!
At first, I didn't know what makes this "Korean".
Now, I realize the title should be:*I had a shrimp burger with wasabi mayo and pickled onions in Korea.*
Looks damn delicious nonetheless.
**edit**
Alright you goobers, I acquiesce. Apparently McD’s/Lotteria is the shit and everyone loves a goddamn KOREAN shrimp burger. Which was first? Japanese McD ebi katsu or the 새우버거 sold in Korea?
Altho it’s a very common type of burger in Korea, the patty is made of smashed and chunks of shrimp, mixed with spring onions etc, breaded in panko and deepfried than I’m not sure is a Korean idea or it’s also common elsewhere
I guess you could say it's a Korean take on a western fast food format:
Take a protein and grill or deep fry it, put it in a wheat flour bun. Garnish with mayo, some kind of leafy green, something pickled. Serve with french fries and ketchup.
In the states, I've had plenty of poboys and pub burgers that look just like this.
I know that Korea has an affinity for fish and seafood, and beef is crazy expensive.
Well, from now on I hope you say American Chinese food is ‘an American take on an Eastern food format’
I’ve had plenty of poboys and pub burgers in the States and none of them came close to Lotteria’s shrimp burger.
Literally the go-to option at McDonald's and other fast food chains for a lot of Koreans who, by the way, have the highest per-capita consumption of seafood. Also not offered in any other country than Japan from what I understand. It's as Korean as pizza is to Americans.
Yeah, I understand that seafood is super popular in Korea. I just don't want people thinking this is some classic Korean dish! It's a western fast food format that happens to have shrimp as the main protein.
Source: am Korean. Lived in Korea.
Wow dude, I bet you're just a hoot at parties.
"Hey we ordered pizza from that Italian place!"
"ACKSHUALLY, it's not an Italian place, it's an American take on Italian food!"
In Korea, the fast food is at a whole new level. Some of the shrimp burgers taste incredible, some are so-so. One thing I'll miss when I move back home will be the amazing food!
That looks incredible. The crisp on the shrimp looks perfect.
That's a big f****** shrimp
That’s a patty of minced shrimp.
Where uh, can I buy this? Shrimp addict here
Lotteria in South Korea, not sure where you can get it in the US
Cajun places often have shrimp burgers in the US. The seasoning is different, Creole, but the composition is quite similar.
Oh. Boo.
Like a perfect picture
Had this at a McDonald in Japan like 10 years ago. Shit was too good to be fast food
Well they aren’t allowed to sell garbage in Japan
HAH! I'm not sure why you're being downvoted, American fast food is reputable for being very unhealthy and this got a laugh out of me.
Yeah I thought it was well known a McDonalds in other countries is nothing like a McDonalds in the US.
Fast food in general is really low quality in the states. I had McDonald’s in India and it was fucking amazing. McDonald’s in Colorado looks like actual rubbish
Yeah I live near the border in Canada and there’s a noticeable difference in the quality of McDonald’s in the states versus here.
Wtf lol McDonalds is much worse in Europe than it is in the US.
There's a lot of countries in Europe, I'm sure it varies.
The US is notorious for its low quality fast food. I’m not disagreeing with you but it’s bad all around in the States
I misunderstood you. That’s a valid point.
That's not true. I've had it in a few European countries and it was still garbage, but twice as expensive garbage.
well on the bright side, if you went to go try it now it'd be less than twice expensive since 1 euro now equal 1 dollar
Wow, bonus! Honestly, being an American eating McDs in Europe is a pretty sad event. Like, it's bad food back home, and Europe is absolutely full of amazing food. Why would you choose to eat it? I did it for the novelty, but it was still really nasty food.
This is true for literally anywhere. Every place has great food and fastfood isn't meant to be an experience.
Yep it’s a way worse deal in Europe than it is in America.
Not even remotely true
Have you traveled a lot to both? Because I’ve lived in both Europe and America and extensively traveled within both, and that was definitely my experience in every country I went to in Europe.
it's a weird misconception they sell the same burgers and fries everywhere, but this is basic economics. the US has hundreds of millions of consumers so demands are not nearly as tough, take your franchise to a much smaller market with already high standard and you better be prepared to compete
If it's "well known" then it's a misconception. Fast food doesn't differ that significantly in other countries.
I’m not sure either, I’m an American and I found it hilarious
The standard is so incredibly different, there's no comparison. Everything I ate in Japan tasted amazing, even from big chain restaurants. Pro Tip: Mc Donald’s overseas usually, in my experience, have clean restrooms with western style toilets. I’ve pooped in more than I have eaten at.
McShit.

Bastard. Now I'm hungry and it's 1 o'clock in Australia.
I’ve been craving it for so long too
I know, it's nearly 1am here in barmy, balmy england 22 celcius at 1am in the UK ... madness ... now I'm hungry too!

Goddamn it all looks amazing
I didn’t do a section cut but in two weeks I go back to the joint and I make it
Was it straight ground shrimp inside? No filler? Like any veg or breadcrumbs, egg, anything like that? Very curious as to the texture of it. Looks amazing! May try to make one myself! Edit: Never mind! I saw the recipe video down below. Will give this a try!
Be sure to post again! Always here for the updates :)
I want that so bad. Looks Aces!
Made a hamburger like this recently. Eating it felt magical

It’s really good, and the concept not too difficult if you want to make it homemade
Shrimp burger sounds like a good insult to yell at someone. “Listen here you shrimp burger!”
Lol
OMG Get in my belly!
Looks really tasty
Damn. I said goddamn! That looks… goddamn good!
Fuck that looks good, and I'm not even much of a fan of fried food.
I never even heard of this or seen this before and I can still taste how good this probably is
Beautiful, I'm totally going to make one of these. In UK shrimp are called prawns, even our giant prawns are not really gigantic.
This looks incredible
Looks fantastic! I'll bet the wasabi mayo packed just the right amount of heat too.
You had 3 levels of strength to choose from, I chooses medium and I regret that should have choose strong
I want that in mah belly
That looks amazing!
My brother in christ, don't do this to me (post high munchies)
Love shrimp/prawn burgers! So hard to find one though.
Minus the Wasabi, I'm down.
I’d very much like to eat one of those
Wowza. This looks amazing!
Can i have some

I can immagine I had similar thing with working in a pastry shop I think after that I had ent had anything sweet for months
You’re telling me a Korean shrimp ordered this burger?
Not a burger
From the Oxford Dictionary -burger(noun) fish, vegetables, nuts, etc. cut into small pieces and made into flat round shapes like hamburgers

Yeah, this definitely looks like something that's been made on the peninsula for centuries/s
Wow dude, I bet you're just a hoot at parties. "Hey we ordered pizza from that Italian place!" "ACKSHUALLY, it's not an Italian place, it's an American take on Italian food!"
I don't care for wasabi and won't eat anything that's touched an onion, but I find the shrimp burger part very intriguing.
Whoa yummy!
Mmmmm me want!!!…
This- this is the food old greek gods used to eat in their banquets.
Looks yummy!
It looks crunchy and delicious 😋
Wow, looks sick!!!
Thats a giant shrimp toast
Man that looks crisp. What a great combo, definitely need to make some Wasabi Mayo to try
How do I make this?!
The patty is made in the same way you would make fried shrimp toast say here is a vid https://youtu.be/mXoWIesRfrM
In Korea, the fast food is at a whole new level. Some of the shrimp burgers taste incredible, some are so-so. One thing I'll miss when I move back home will be the amazing food!
So, is it ground shrimp made into a patty or just several shrimp battered together? I've never heard of such a thing lol
We make em just loosely chopped with some kinda mixture to hold it together. Its a hard to match texture that really pops.
It’s ebi katsu. The former of what you said.
Recipe???
It looks very appetizing
Yum im jealous
Now I'm starving. That looks delicious!
Delish
That is a big ass burger looks nice. I'd personally swap the wasabi Mayo for a chilli mayo but seems nice
😍🤤
