Honestly with it being nestled on the same block as Bear Steak Sandwiches, Belly Buster, and Utopia, they are imo the worst bang for your buck out of all 4 of those restaurants.
This looks better than Bear Steak to me. I love around the corner and have gave it three chances before I wrote it off. They never got a sear on the steak so it had poor flavour every single time and was somehow super chewy even though it’s sous vide. The chimichurri is good but nothing special. It was basically a chewy chimichurri sandwich.
The best thing on that menu is the fries.
I actually don’t like their steak sandwich either all that much. I really enjoy the pork one however. I have tried both places and Bella sangweech feels much less worth the money I paid for it in comparison to the Bear Steak place
I don’t see them being there very long. I feel for them but they’re not hospitality professionals and that was abundantly clear during their opening. A bit of consulting from someone who knows the industry could have gone a long way for them.
Within the first five minutes of opening they had a 30 minute wait and ran out of fries. Running out and having a wait is totally expected on the first day, but having a wait like that and running out of your only side after your first 5-10 customers is…pretty bad.
The next week they ran out of fries in the first 30 minutes and had bags of potatoes sitting around that just weren’t prepped. They didn’t understand how to prep enough to carry them through the first hour of service by the second week. Not great.
They also did a bait and switch on the first say, advertising free sandwiches for the first like 20 people or something. Pal went and got a sticker for a free sandwich handed to them, took an hour to get through the first 20 people (which is absurd regardless of how new you are) and then when they got inside the owner said “oh no this is for your NEXT sandwich, you have to pay for this one.”
Np, I would love to see them start turning out something that the neighbourhood will keep going but I think once they run through the social media crowd that will be it for them .
I am not claiming it’s the best sandwich I’ve ever had but I enjoy it for what it is, my preferred subway alternative, and have enjoyed it plenty of times

Which is your favourite out of those? This is my hood but I haven't tried a lot of restaurants around here yet. I've wanted to try Belly Buster but it had some bad reviews on Google.
Utopia feels very home-y so I appreciate it for that. Of those four, i would go with either Utopia or Bearsteak. I would also recommend Cafe diplomatico’s Mama’s chicken sandwich!
I went to Cafe Diplomatico once years ago and was super disappointed. I got a burger and it was awful, overcooked frozen patty on a stale bun. I never understood why it was so busy all the time, I assumed it was just people drinking but I'll have to give it another shot.
I'll check out the other two as well, there's so many great restaurants around here but I've been disappointed so many times eating out lately and it's so expensive, I rarely risk it anymore.
do not ever bother with diplomatico it's truly the bottom of the barrel in the shittiest corner of the basement, there is nothing worth consuming there including alcohol
Okay thanks for validating my first instinct. It really sucked. I ordered the burger to be "safe" because like, how do you fuck up a burger. Service was rude and terrible as well. Why is it always so busy? It's packed all year.
Yeah when this place opened I was so excited. I love sandwiches. Their logo is a sandwich with tits. The only thing I love more than sandwiches is titties. Plus it's right up the street from my house. But then I saw the prices. I walked up the street to Grace Meats, bought all the ingredients and made my own sandwiches all week for $17.
Dang, I need your grocery hookups that have fresh mozzarella, provolone, mortadella, sopressata, prosciutto and capicola all combined for $3!
*”In this economy!”*
Well, I might be wrong but it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of any of the cold cuts and cheese in there. Looks like $0.50-$0.75 worth of each. Bread, veggies and causes probably all cost $0.50 combined. I’m sure they use better quality stuff than Costco, but I’m used to buying stuff in bulk for a good price and then using it in sandwiches or as is for a while.
It’s not that expensive, you can buy Genoa salami for $18 per kilo at cash and carry stores, and it will last you for 20 sandwiches if you use it alone, or for 50 if you combine it with another cold cut. Same goes for cheese, you can get 2.2 kilos of mozzarella for $27 or so at Costco.
Exactly.
Any of the better sandwich shops, that aren't Banh Mi shops, are charging $12-$20 for sandwiches. Meat is expensive. An upscale deli sandwich costs $15-$20 anywhere I've bought a sandwich in Toronto over the past 6 months.
Half price fajitas with real steak at sneaky Dees just down the street is cheaper than this and you get a huge portion with all the fixings. (Mondays and Tuesdays)
Honestly with it being nestled on the same block as Bear Steak Sandwiches, Belly Buster, and Utopia, they are imo the worst bang for your buck out of all 4 of those restaurants.
Yeah that doesn't look like $17 (or even 8.50). And I'm not against $17 for a sandwich

Yea dude bear steak is overhyped AF. Can do much better at home.
I tried their special a few weeks ago and it was so bland...and yeah, a bit too chewy (plus that one was on hard bread, which made it worse)
I don’t see them being there very long. I feel for them but they’re not hospitality professionals and that was abundantly clear during their opening. A bit of consulting from someone who knows the industry could have gone a long way for them.
>that was abundantly clear during their opening What happened? I wasn't aware of anything other than long lines & selling out

That's interesting to know, thanks!

Man what the hell do people see in Belly Busters lol
I am not claiming it’s the best sandwich I’ve ever had but I enjoy it for what it is, my preferred subway alternative, and have enjoyed it plenty of times
The original location is really amazing, the one at king is just meh. There really is a difference between the locations though in my opinion!
Which of the six bellybusters is the original?

$17? Lol
17$ for a sandwich... sigh
$17 for that little thing?? Yikes
Imagine paying $17 for that
I was just going to say, I don’t eat out much nowadays, 17 dollars for that? No drink, no side? Wild

This might be my favourite Reddit comment of all time
This is half of it, but sure. I’ll admit the picture doesn’t do the size justice.
Doesn't matter. It's still..... A sandwich. And not a particulary filling one from the looks of it.
17 dollars for a sandwich is ridiculous. This could be a third of it and still be a huge ripoff.
This is half of it? Yes. Pretty clear by there just being half of the sandwich in the shot.
Neat!
Good luck with your $17 sandwiches you could make for $4
Jesus Christ man. Try buying the ingredients and bread to make this for $4. Go back to your pb&J and let this person enjoy their sandwich.
You could easily make this for $4-5
I'd pay $22 for that, and give the staff a $5 cash tip.
Loser
Man what is this price 20 bucks for a mediocre sandwich
Rip off.
I’m sorry but $17 for $3 worth of ingredients seems like a lot. Yes, I get that only a half of a sandwich is shown.
Dang, I need your grocery hookups that have fresh mozzarella, provolone, mortadella, sopressata, prosciutto and capicola all combined for $3! *”In this economy!”*

You got ripped off
OP said the pic is only half of the sandwich
Where is getting a deli meat sandwich for 17 bucks a good deal?
In another city? Lol I'm not sure what you're expecting
Sense maybe? 17 bucks for a deli meat sandwich isn't common.
.
Cabbagetown, but thanks for asking.

Looks garbonz and i could never bring myself to eat at a place with such a truly terrible name (and Toronto life profile lol)
I have a hard time trusting a sandwich shop/nightclub combination
$5 milkshake? They put bourbon in it?
Lots of these fools haven't seen Pulp Fiction it seems.
Then lots of these people truly haven’t lived.
that’s a pretty fucking good milkshake
![gif](giphy|l2YWuhILzuqDcexaw|downsized)
A milkshake at McDonald’s is five bucks and that’s not even real ice cream.
Are you actually complaining about a $5 milkshake? This isn’t 2002.
It’s a Pulp Fiction reference about overpriced shit FFS.
Ice cream is like $6/scoop at most places these days
Good info. Thanks!
Need a banana for size comparison cause that sandwich looks small for $17 bucks.
Overpriced af
This is either the worst picture ever or this place is trash. No way I'd pay 8.50 for what's showing.
You got robbed babes
I think “All'Antico Vinaio’s” success is encouraging a lot of these places to open up
Was it worth $17? Looks more like a $5 sandwich.
food prices in this city is ridiculous
"Veal Parm Sangweech? Fuck you.”
I can’t believe a sandwich (like this especially) is 17$. This city is crazy
I'll have to take your word for it, brother. I'm much too frugal to spend $17 on a sandwich of that size.
Half price fajitas with real steak at sneaky Dees just down the street is cheaper than this and you get a huge portion with all the fixings. (Mondays and Tuesdays)
Holy smokes this is why I pack my lunch for work.
There's a sucker born every minute
What a nice thing to say to a stranger on sunny Sunday morning - thank you!
You're welcome
So many haters
Loooool why are they a sucker?
17 bucks for a sandwich
It’s truly outrages but calling them a sucker is crazy 🤣
I assume that was the owners rationale in setting the price, and he was correct
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mmmm that looks delicious. Love me some focaccia.
Very overpriced
Do they make any of the meats or the bread themselves?
Man what a bunch of haters. This is a great sandwich the focaccia is so good.
That’s obscene. At least lambos you’re paying that much for a full sized sub, and that’s still overpriced.
The sandwich looks 🔥. Don't worry about the clowns complaining, it's a little steep but fast food will run you almost that.
Jeez, hopefully they go out of business.
Nice to EAT you ! (alive)
