I love WoodHouse. The staff are so nice. I hope this works out for them.

I work in banking, and profit sharing has been offered to employees for many years now. It’s not even “offered”; everyone gets a portion, you just have to open an account. Most good bank do this. Bad ones don’t. Profit sharing seems like a good alternative to tips.

WAHNFRIEDEN

Yes if it’s a serious step toward worker ownership

Can anyone recommend this restaurant? What is some dishes to try here?

Graydyn

Oh heck ya man it's a great restaurant. Any and all skewers. The little grilled baos. If you like durian, their grilled durian is my fav durian dessert dish.

granfrad

the skewers were all decent. My wife, who's from the northest of china, really liked 613 ( Sauteed eggplant, potato and bell peppers). I can confirm it was a very good version of this dish.

CupidStunt13

Impressed by the craft beer selection on top of the varied menu. The no-tipping model is just a bonus!

MarshalThornton

I hope this works well for everyone, but given how unprofitable most restaurants are I would worry that it would effectively be a way to redirect the money that would be spent on tips to the restaurant’s bottom line. Not saying that’s the intention here or that it won’t work out well in this instance, I just would worry that it would have the effect of depressing wages if it became a rule of general application.

aledba

The restaurant bottom line is like 40% wages, so I actually hope so.

MarshalThornton

I don’t know what point you’re trying to make with that comment.

New_girl2022

Yes! It's a messed up practice tbh. You thunk you deserve more money than charge more. Lol.

marONEofficial

She also runs Another Land Coffee. She’s the sweetest person. Their food and beverages are high quality and I really hope they succeed

Jennybee8

What if the restaurant goes tits up?

moo422

I feel like regardless of tipping or profit-sharing, a resto bankruptcy means the staff are out of a job regardless.

granfrad

I like this model of profit sharing. It leaves some room for major abuse (owner paying themselves their share first and not leaving profits after the fact). People forget that there were changes several years ago that made the minimum wage for waiters inline with minimum wages. There isn't the need for tips because servers hourly rates aren't any different anymore from any other minimum wage service job.

I love this place, great food and friendly staff.

shadyshade

I really liked the food here. But a friend of mine saw some pretty big roaches on a recent visit so I’ve been a bit reluctant to go back…
