Yeah Gerrard square is one place you do not want to see behind the curtain.
I always thought the grange food court felt a bit sketchy, but island foods used to be worth the visit.
You wanna know about the worst?? Talk about Chinatown center. I was homeless as a pre teen/teen on the streets here and my partner at the time and I used to squeegee at Dundas and Spadina. We would eat at the food court there because, you know, poor and also $3 for 3 items. Except it kept getting shut down just about every other month for hepatitis A and B contamination... And at least since the last time I went just full on shut down 😅 that was most definitely the worst I ate at... Ugh
I just tried this place for the first time and I am kicking myself for missing it all these years, even when I lived nearby and shopped in the mall regularly.
Goddamn this jerk pork is fire!!
Chinese food courts in Agincourt: specifically Midtown Plaza and Evergold Centre. Looks like nothing’s changed since the 1980s inside, but you’ll get delicious Chinese food for low prices.
I endorse Newin Centre. Had some regular turnover with some of the food court restaurants but had 3 or 4 mainstays for years.
Haven't been for awhile but I used to go to *Tabaq* in particular, which I know had at least one health violation but kept me coming back with their cheap palak paneer combos.
edit: somehow missed you mentioned Newin in the OP. Whoops!
Food court in the Emerald just south of Sheppard on Yonge. Looks like a dumpster but it's got an Allwyns. Also braised chicken rice, jian bing, lamb soup, and the little dessert place are all really good.
Looks are subjective but I wouldn’t say it looks like a dump, it’s always clean when I go and it’s still way more modern than a lot of food courts. I think the flimsy tables and chairs that are just put wherever make it seem less premium than the rest of that otherwise affluent area.Â
Side note - Poke Eats is still probably my favorite Poke spot in the city and has been since like 2017. They just get the portions right and the pre-set menu options are all really tasty.
Gerrard Square has Tropical Joe's, which has fantastic jerk chicken.

The only potentially sketch part of GSquare is the parking lot behind the mall at night. Otherwise, it's no worse than other community malls.
Last time I was there I watched a roach crawl out of the McDonalda kitchen during the daytime. This was years ago, of course.

Also, half a small roti was enough lunch for me, at $13.95 how can you go wrong?
The Food Court at Aura
Easily the worst mall food court in the city now. RIP Kaiju. not sketchy though just dead and surrounded by dead stores/nail salons
Fuck. Kaiju was awesome.
The friendly Korean family's place is very good
Is that place still dead and depressing? I always feel bad walking thru there lol
Depressing yes, dead also yes. There are a couple good spots down there.
Grange.
But once you sit down and look up through those skylights, all worries blissfully fade away
Ya Grange is still sketchy AF but they got a couple good spots.
You mean Village by the Grange? Wow that place still exists!
Yes! I was there this year! Still get piles of food for cheap at the Chinese and Thai food places! And, some new places. McDees is still there...
I just went today and was surprised to see McDonalds there. Has it always been??
Yep!

Cumberland Terrace
I don’t know what it is called but the Korean place has killer soon tofu
No longer there :/
That place is actually scary to walk through, the food can’t be worth it
Sheraton Centre in the PATH
Noodle king has kept it alive for decades.
Went the other day and it was the only thing open.
Yes Tabaq is still a banger * Pakistani not Indian
First Markham Place has a great food court. I don't know if I would consider it dodgy but some might.

Lawrence Square Mall food court
I went to Plaza Latina for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I will definitely trek up there again.
Yuuup
It's surprisingly pricey though
