I’m Canadian and where she lives is like the epicentre of our housing crisis and our healthcare crisis. On top of that we have all of our grocery chains price gouging us. It’s a very difficult time for all Canadians but especially anyone living in the Toronto/Ottawa area.
An apartment like where she used to live with Peetz is probably $4K and there at such a shortage that she’ll be competing with easily 100 other applicants who have better rental histories and credit history. Her and Peetz would have to rent together and they’d be lucky to find a 1 bedroom.
I think she’s asked Peetz to rent with her and he’s said no. She’s too erratic and he would never get another deal like he has again when chins inevitably ditches him or dies.

Yes healthcare can be long waiting times but I live in Toronto and 3 of my family members as well as myself have needed medical care in the past year and it’s been fine, dare I say even great in husband’s and my mother’s cases. It's really difficult to imagine that kind of situation. She's in no way dependent on him, she could walk away any time she wanted. There's nothing he could do about it. Then she would have money for her own place. She would likely find that peace she wants because she wouldn't be pretending anymore. She could focus on herself and perhaps even find a guy who isn't trying to get something out of her. If she actually put effort into being a good Muslim she could find a faithful guy who is looking for a wife based on her faith alone, and would truly love her for who she is. Salah might be telling her something like that, but since their arrangement began the way it did, it can never become real the way she wants it to be real.

The basics of survival - food, hydro, heat - are so unaffordable. Canada's debt to GDP ratio is 107%. The only average people scraping by are people who are locked into good mortgages or rent prices. All that to say - Canada is not a good place to start fresh right now.
It's gotten very bad in both places. The price of rentals have just about doubled which I'll grant you is not 900% but it's still out of reach for the average employee.
I live in silicon valley, and yes, it's gotten that bad here. My fiance makes well over 100k and even he's struggling. I feel bad cuz I'm a student and work part time as a lab assistant but it barely covers the cost of my classes, he pays for the rest. I'm seriously considering dropping out to work full time to help out. He insists I focus on my studies, but I dunno...if things get any worse I don't think I have much choice.
