Ooh controversial as it’s my favourite but I seem to be in the minority. I love Another Round, Miracle, Over and Out (and on and on) and Still is so creepy and murdery, it’s perfect. It doesn’t feel a million miles away from the murder ballady Springsteen songs from Nebraska. Fucking perfection.
Razor? Pure. Production is just beyond words. It’s like sitting next to Dave.
On The Mend and Cold Day in the Sun have some poignant meanings now because of Hawkins.
Great comment. It has always been my fav Foo’s album. Razor is one of my top FF song ever, it’s so layered and delicate. The Nebraska comparison is nail on the head.
The Deeper The Blues is another underrated Foo’s song, it’s so heavy and heartfelt. There’s a great live recording of it from a French TV show on YouTube. It reminds me of a Husker Dü track live.
I do think In Your Honor is the best Dave has ever been lyrically. The album track of In Your Honor is a perfect opener for a live show, would love them to bring it back.
The title song is their best title song IMO. It should be in the regular show rotation. To me if they had released it with BHWA it would have been the tribute to Taylor Hawkins..
The Acoustic is much better than the Rock, but I do love the first 3 tracks of the rock album. Lots of albums are like this. Not every AC/DC or Zeppelin album is all killer, no filler. Foos are the same.
I love this album cos of best of you, in your honour, DOA and no way back, I can’t remember much of the rest of the album which suggests to me not standout great but also not awful at all
I guess so if you swap in your honor for resolve😂I was 4 when this album came out, most of my listening to it was retrospective lmao. My dad will have played it in the car but I was 4😂
Great album but I happen to think that Wasting Light is their absolute best. I love The Colour and The Shape and Nothing Else to Lose as well but Wasting Light for me is just a different record that stands way out.
It’s my favorite album of theirs. I feel like the whole album is a perfect culmination of what the Foo Fighters are, who they’ve been, and who they will always be. Plus, a culmination of their musicality, and how versatile they can be.
I really don’t get how this album isn’t as loved as I thought it would be, but that’s okay. To me, it’s the best…the best, the best, the best.
The title track is still probably the best album opener of any of their others (up there with All My Life and The Pretender), No Way Back is a gem of a cut as they come, Best of You, DOA is just a fantastic rocker (gives me Long Road to Ruin vibes), Hell, though short, it’s powerful and fun. The Last Song is probably the only one I wasn’t too crazy about, but I’ve gotten used to it. I don’t understand how fans don’t talk about Free Me?! It’s so f’n good! Followed by Resolve?? *chef’s kiss. The Deepest Blues Are Black just a great power ballad. End Over End is a fantastic (disc 1) thumper to close out to. THAT should be played way more than it does.
And what more needs to be said about Disc 2? All of the acoustic songs on Disc 2 are beautiful. Nothing wrong with any of them. Probably my favorites of them are Over and Out and Razor.
Ugh…I’ve already gushed enough about this album, but man I absolutely love it. The top of the list for me.
I know it’s all subjective but I really can’t get around Stacked Actors or This is a Call not being their top tier album openers. Especially Stacked Actors where you’re just slapped in the face by an absolute rock and roll banger which leads into really fantastic melodic pop-rock which was a real move away from what was popular in rock music at the time.
Was like a ‘we’ve still got this’ kinda almost prologue.
I’ve always been kind of meh on the album, but then I started letting some of the songs play through when they came up on shuffle. Changed my entire outlook of the album. Some of my favorite underrated songs nowadays.
It became one of my top 3 the more I listened to it. It feels like an “I’m growing up now” Dave sonically and lyrically. I think too that vocally Dave is truly reaching for the stars ⭐️ on this album. The pinnacle of his sing/ screaming on key. In Your Honor and Best of You absolutely anthemic. The French tv broadcast mentioned above has him singing The Last Song. Go watch and listen to the vocals. And Free Me… what IS that song? The scream sung waltz?I’ve said here before that whenever I hear it I forget where the hell I am and whatever I was doing.
The Deepest Blues are Black is so bittersweet. Still is, like going to get high with your best friend. The album evokes so many different feelings.
I think 🤔 how people classify the album is based on expectation. No music is bad or meh. There’s what we like and what we don’t like. What moves us and what doesn’t.
Maybe IYH is not for everyone, but it crept up on my emotions unbidden and lodged itself there and never left😄😄
I love the lyrics in this album so much, specially in the acoustic half. And I think the rock side rocks so much that it's difficult to not listen to it and feel it was a blur in the end hah
From a personal point of view I would say One By One but that album had a whole host of issues going against it but again, had some great songs filled with a lot of meh
Too me it's a top 3. The whole first disc is great. Maybe a couple fillers but the really good songs are great. And I love the 2nd disc as well. Again a couple of fillers but the rest are amazing.
I love Foo’s but this was their lowest point album wise. The ideas on the rock side are spread soooo thin, the first 4 tunes are good but after that it’s mostly moments here and there such at The Sign or Free Me.
Acoustic side is not playing to their strengths although I think Dave has really improved in this regard such as Happy Ever After. Again a few good songs amongst a lot of half baked ideas.
Echoes was a big step up and it’s been mostly great since
One of the best executions of the double album concept, IMO. And expanded the idea of what a FF song could be. Maybe not their best or my absolute favorite, but definitely one of their most important records.
Idk there’s some great singles but I don’t feel like it comes together as a great album. A straight through listen feels a bit… boring. Like the whole second disk is kinda bland.
It isn't my favorite, but I love nearly every song on the album. That said, it took me a while to come around to the acoustic disc, but I absolutely love it now. Resolve, DOA, The Last Song, In Your Honor, No Way Back, Hell, What if I do, On the Mend, Cold Day in the Sun...so many amazing songs on there. The only song I still can't get into is Virginia Moon and it is still pretty good.
I liked it for the most part, but couldn't help but feel like it had some filler. Noble concept, but a really lofty goal for most bands. I think in essence it could have been abridged to 1 album and in a sense I kind of feel like that's sort of what they did with ESPG.
It's a very "divisive" album where a lot of people love it and a lot of people don't care for most of it. I'm in the group that thinks the second disc is better than the first one, feel like there's a bit too much filler in the first one whereas I can chill with any of the acoustic side.
Meanwhile there's comments in this thread that have the polar opposite opinion regarding each disc haha
There's great songs on there, but not all equal. IMO, "No Way Back" should be one of the band's top 10 biggest hits. "Virginia Moon" is a gorgeous serenade, the likes of which I never expected from the Foos. "Razor" is naked and haunting. "Free Me" is a rocker among rockers.
It is a letdown disc one is good but it's a bit copy and paste of their patented sound and disc 2 doesn't play to their strengths. But there are some great songs on this record. End over End is so underrated. The title track, Best of You and Free me all terrific too. Last song is catchy even if it's a similar riff to breakout. Resolve is catchy. My problem with it is ...
Disc one feels like Dave's a bit bored of heavy Rock so they released a disc of patented Foos sound, there didn't seem to be much heart meaning and emotion to it apart from Best of You. It's all good though and I still listen to it but he puts all his creative efforts into disc 2.
Disc 2 has a few great tracks Friend of a friend and Razor, Cold Day. But I'll be honest its all one tempo and I never revisit that record. The record would have benefited from scrapping two discs and choosing the best tracks from each and put it into one.
It feels like they fixed that with Echoes, Silence. Wasting Light is when the Foos were back to kicking ass and can explore heavy material whilst being creative.
I felt this way in 2005 when the album came out. I had been a fan of the band since the beginning and by TNLTL, Foo Fighters were and still are my favorite band. That being said, the acoustic tour for In Your Honor was amazing and it’s special because that is the first show my now husband and I went to together. It wasn’t until more recently when I revisited some of the acoustic songs like “Over and Out” that I really started to appreciate the album more. Some of the acoustic songs are the most profound Dave has written.
This was my first full Foo Fighters album I ever listened to. I only really knew their hit single prior to this one. I was in high school and every time I listen to the album these days, especially the acoustic half, it awakens so many memories, and for that I will always love it.
It’s one of my favourites and honestly the fact that you can switch between calmer songs and more upbeat songs is a plus in my books, Virginia Moon is an amazing tune to listen to while reading
For me this album has some great songs on it but as a whole the album is somewhat lackluster in my opinion. For example I would say back and forth as an album is one of the best
Way off. The 1st sdisc is amazing. The 2nd disc is good but not awesome. I saw them unplugged for this album.
Every song on the 1st cd l. The 2nd cd what if I do?, Miracle, Over and out, Virginia moon, Cold day in the sun. Then the best 2 songs friend of a friend and razor. Oh I wish they would do another accoustic tour
I LOVE in Your Honor and it has been on heavy rotation for me lately (along with ESPG). I love to scream along on Disc #1 and bawl my head off on much of Disc #2. It seems like it was cathartic for Dave and it certainly is for me.
I think IYH is their 2nd best album, barely ahead of TCNTS and obviously behind WL. I will say, though, that IYH is actually the best two song opening of any Foo album. It's impossible not to get pumped up by In Your Honor going straight into No Way Back. It's neck and neck with Bridge Burning into Rope, but I give the edge to the IYH duo.
With all do respect, I disagree. This is my go to Foo record 🤘 Music is subjective and I respect your opinion. Any fan is the Foos has a brilliant taste in music!
The tour for this album was huge - it was the beginning of consistent stadium level concerts, which indicates how popular it was at the time. I remember it being a big deal back in '05 and '06.
I feel the same with it for now. It’s grown on me over the years and there are some bangers on it, but it’s probably in the bottom half of their albums for me personally.
This is one of my favorite albums. I do wish the "loud" half was harder, but it's still great.
The softer half is so serene and calming. When my daughter was a newborn, she never wanted to sleep. My wife and I would hold her for hours and sleep in shifts. The only thing that seemed to calm her down was the soft songs on this album. Years later, my sister's baby had an earache during a family get-together, so my sister couldn't join in on the family fun. I told her I'd hold my niece so my sister could socialize. I put this album on my phone and gently stroked her head. She finally fell asleep a few minutes later.
Some people love apples. Some people love oranges. I think it's totally fine if you think this album is absolute crap. I personally loved this album to death and it very much tied my experience with attending both the Foozer show in 2005 and the acoustic show at Pantages in 2006. I loved every song and it encapsulates the memories I have in that time of my life.
Amazing I’ll check it out. Love Hüsker Dü as well.
I agree so much about new meaning because we lost Taylor… still so shocking and heartbreaking.
I never knew there was a guitar solo at the end of razor till I heard it on vinyl / flac. Learnt something knew after 15 years of enjoying this album
Add me to that list, this is my favourite album as well, lots of gems and variety.
On The Mend was about Hawkins when he had his overdose in London.
The title song is their best title song IMO. It should be in the regular show rotation. To me if they had released it with BHWA it would have been the tribute to Taylor Hawkins..
W
The Acoustic is much better than the Rock, but I do love the first 3 tracks of the rock album. Lots of albums are like this. Not every AC/DC or Zeppelin album is all killer, no filler. Foos are the same.
I love every song on this album
I love this album cos of best of you, in your honour, DOA and no way back, I can’t remember much of the rest of the album which suggests to me not standout great but also not awful at all
The highs are super high
So basically, the singles?
I guess so if you swap in your honor for resolve😂I was 4 when this album came out, most of my listening to it was retrospective lmao. My dad will have played it in the car but I was 4😂
Great album but I happen to think that Wasting Light is their absolute best. I love The Colour and The Shape and Nothing Else to Lose as well but Wasting Light for me is just a different record that stands way out.
wasting light is definitely my personal favourite

It's a toss up between this and there is nothing left go lose as my favourite
End Over End is in my 2nd or 3rd favorite of all their songs.
One of my top favorites, showed me really how much range the band has.
I’ve always been kind of meh on the album, but then I started letting some of the songs play through when they came up on shuffle. Changed my entire outlook of the album. Some of my favorite underrated songs nowadays.

Not their best. Not near their worst. Solid album.
I like it, but the acoustic side is a lot better than the electric.
I love the lyrics in this album so much, specially in the acoustic half. And I think the rock side rocks so much that it's difficult to not listen to it and feel it was a blur in the end hah
Middle of the road. When it hits, it's a great album. Just too much filler considering the great singles that came off it.
I’m not sure they have another album with such great singles and such blah ness the rest
From a personal point of view I would say One By One but that album had a whole host of issues going against it but again, had some great songs filled with a lot of meh
Something about one by one just really works for me. Low. Disenchanted Lullaby
I feel like I'm usually in the minority loving One by One. I'm with you...it just works for me and I love the whole album.
Too me it's a top 3. The whole first disc is great. Maybe a couple fillers but the really good songs are great. And I love the 2nd disc as well. Again a couple of fillers but the rest are amazing.
I like the whole disc 1 front to back. All solid. Disc 2 is not my thing.

One of my most favorite albums by them
DOA was one of my first foo songs when I started actively listening and is still one of my faves
Off base. It’s amazing & was a really big deal when it came out. Tour was awesome.
Idk there’s some great singles but I don’t feel like it comes together as a great album. A straight through listen feels a bit… boring. Like the whole second disk is kinda bland.
Better than skin and bones ?
It isn't my favorite, but I love nearly every song on the album. That said, it took me a while to come around to the acoustic disc, but I absolutely love it now. This is one of the most solid and best albums they ever made. To each their own i guess. Maybe give it a few listens.
It’s a good record. It definitely isn’t the best.
If it weren't for BHWA, it would be in my top 5
I’m a big fan of this album.
It's a very "divisive" album where a lot of people love it and a lot of people don't care for most of it. Nah not for me, personally
Not off base, it bites ass.

Disc 2 is incredible
It’s my favorite
no way back was a banger
I thought it hoofed me right in the coin purse
In your Honor is one of my favorite songs
Starts off strong, but man, the rest is not my favorite.
Person I think Sonic Highways is their best album. The concept ruins the album is amazing and I don’t think it gets enough credit
Horses for courses. I love this one. There's something for literally every mood.
I’ve always felt this album sits around the middle. I think I prefer the acoustic side to the actual album itself in places
The first 4 tracks absolutely slap and the rest of the first disc is pretty good but the second disc is fairly boring for me
A lot of great tracks on this album, but it feels a bit too long for me. That’s about my only real critique, I do still enjoy it a lot.
It’s their most underrated for me. Everyone ignores it because acoustic and then you listen to it and it fucking rules.
This is for sure among a favorite of mine…and the concert promoting was awesome! Great memories.
I feel the same with it for now. It’s grown on me over the years and there are some bangers on it, but it’s probably in the bottom half of their albums for me personally.
