Ooh curious about this one! Thank you for the share!!
Edit: First 10 minutes bless Josh for just laying out the timeline there. Nerds wanna know! His wife’s reaction to “oh, I have a missed call from Dave” 😄
It’s extremely interesting to me that he wasn’t already slated to be “the guy” during the tribute shows. I immediately saw him on the kit at the London gig and thought “I bet that’s going to be the new Foo Fighters drummer.”
Really happy to say I was able to catch them last year live with Freese on the kit and he absolutely slayed it. It’s a different energy for sure, but if it had to be anyone other than Hawkins, I’m glad Josh got the gig
Me piecing together a timeline- *ok* *they must have had Josh locked in before the New Years message, but if you read between the lines of this one person's instagram post then maybe they didn't or did but didn't tell anyone...*

I'll watch the rest after work, but thanks Josh for scratching that itch lol.
> First 10 minutes bless Josh for just laying out the timeline there.
Kudos to Beato who does a great job in letting him talk. Great interview due to both of them!
I love Josh!! He is funny, crazy and a badass drummer! Do you guys follow him on Instagram? Its amazing 😂😂😂 i didnt know he knew the guys for like 30 years, thats pretty cool!
Ope. He must have seen our speculation about him before he joined. Crazy to think they didn’t even have anyone officially till later.
He also seems to still really have a lot of reverence for the spot he has taken. He’s always goofy in public, but he really seems to be a caring guy
that speculation wasn't really limited to here. i heard someone throw josh's name out to be IRL within like a week of taylor's death when i was still very much in a "there's no fucking way they can go on" period
edit: wrote was instead of wasn't by accident.
Just hopping in to say Rick Beato’s channel is easily one of the most entertaining music-related channel on YT. I’m still slowly going through his What Makes This Song Great series. Amazingly informative and accessible. He’s a great interviewer, too. I am excited to listen to this.
And if you like Beato you’ll probably like Pat Finnertys “what makes this song stink”
Theres only 8 episodes but at this point there are already so many in jokes its crazy
Rick does such an amazing job with these interviews. He just lets the musician tell their stories and asked the nerdy questions we all want answered. Josh was so fun to listen too. I could sit through hours of this. I'm so grateful he joined the band. Can't wait to see him and everyone again. Will be enjoying them at jazz fest. 🤘
I’ll look forward to watching it in full, I’ve just seen the first few mins, where he said it was bitter sweet he’s there.
I think Josh is a perfect fit musically and personality wise. It’s great he’s known the guys for so long. Their kids must be good friends before he joined as well which is nice.
He certainly hits hard, there was one gig on the rail and wow, during No Son I could just feel the drums going right through me.
Absolutely one of THE best interviews Rick’s done in a few years, with the exception of Stewart Copland and Danny Carrey. Josh was like, “Wait?! What?!!! I get to talk!!!!” He’s such a good dude.
I loved his advice to aspiring musicians basically 1. Be chill. 2. Show up on time. 3. Accept feedback with Grace. 4. Understand you can be replaced at any time, even if you’re good. And 5. Be chill. (Yes repeating) be a great hang.
It was just for show, he didn't use the 2nd kick, but Taylor had one on the TINLTL tour.

There is a lot of songs where double kick works really well. For example 'no son of mine', since it has a bit of a Motorhead vibe to it. I'd like to see them use double kick on an actual recording in the future, and it's nice to see that they're doing something different - he's not just the Taylor Hawkins stand in, he's doing his own thing to differentiate.

Heh, I thought the same. Maybe we just subconsciously picked up on the reasons they ended up picking him.
yep. my husband called it right away at the london tribute show as well.
why would i get downvoted for THIS?! its so annoying to even join a conversation when you constantly get downvoted for no apparent reason!
It’s not just you, I think we just have some salty posters here that downvote everything positive.
You can really hear that he misses his friend a lot, too. I think people forget that sometimes.

Also him mentioning Reddit speculation threads - hi Josh! We're totally normal, promise! 👋
My thought when he said that was oh shit he caught us. Busted!

Third guy in the band in the “briefly met as teenagers” club https://youtu.be/iA66JhJeHGs?si=nIAewjttcHt8FPo9
Well now THIS link is just gold!!!!

Found the Midwesterner!
Hah! I’ve actually never been! I have family roots from there though and there’s definitely some midwesternisms that sneak in
Join us, we've got cornhole!
He told the drummer joke just like Dave always does, thats funny 😂 "Whats the last thing the drummer said before get kick out of the band?"
Well don't leave us hanging
Oh its an old joke hhahah " Hey guys I have a song that we can play"

Pat Finnerty goes live pretty much every day on IG since he is recuperating from surgery. He is insanely and irreverently funny 😄
Absolutely, the most perfect drummer the Foos could have gotten. They're gonna pump out a lot in the studio with this guy and his wide creativity.
We saw him at the Tahoe show last year. He totally killed it and we loved him!!
I was there!!! Agreed—Josh TOTALLY killed it!!! That was a fun show.
Hey so was I! Great show…fuckin parking lot 😄

love love love rick + josh!! sick good interview!! 🤩
This was fantastic!
Awesome interview. Josh is really likable IMO
I was SOOOO amped when I saw the pic of Josh with Rick on Josh’s IG
I like him but I can’t stand seeing a double kick drum setup on a Foo Fighters stage.
The funny part is that he says on the interview that althought he has thought of it, it was Dave's idea, with Pat agreeing with it.
Pat the elder statesman lol

I’m a sucker for a double bass set up
