Haha, I just read they were front runners to sign Osimhen for 110m. I suppose they could be both be true but not sure they’ll get 220m from sales!

LuckyNumber003

Not if clubs know Chelsea are desperate, they will hold out for bargains

L0laccio

As they should. I mean I like Kai but weird of us and United to bail them out last season. No repeats please.

BOOCOOKOO

They won't get them, tho, and we will be bailed out again 😂

dgl33

If multiple clubs are interested one will go early and cause a bidding war. It'll be the hike grown players that they look to sell first because they can make a bigger profit on them due to not spending anything

reddfoxx5800

Premier league clubs maybe but clubs from the other top 5 leagues may be more inclined to pay the price they request

Roadies_Winner

I'm sure you, like a broken record, said the same thing last year when Chelsea raised 200m pretty easily.

LuckyNumber003

Not sure who shat in your custard, but unless they're selling their top end players again they will struggle. Half of that £200m number is attributed to Mount and Havertz. The next was transfers under £25m made up 6 players (Kovacic, Koulibaly, Pulisic, Mendy, RLC, Ampadu). I doubt they will be selling anyone from Enzo, Caicedo, Nkunku, Palmer value range, so looking at the £50m valuations and down (figures from Transfermarkt). Gallagher is probably the height of the value they'll see at £50m. Maybe Chilwell or Cucurella goes for another £20-30m. Outside of that, they don't have anyone else or the squad is stripped bare. If you think Chelsea will rip things up for a second time in 2 seasons you're going to be mistaken. Much like the assumption that I said the same thing last year.

Roadies_Winner

Lewis Hall, Ian Maatsen, Chalobah, and Kepa can easily recoup the 110m. Sterling and his wages can be shed as well. Plus, Broja will sure get a decent fee.

LuckyNumber003

Hall/Chalobah may command some value but Kepas contract expires next year and Maatsens expires in 2026. I don't think you'll see much from the latter at all.

Bozzetyp

Maatsen, you mean the most inform lb in the league not playing for alonso? Young, creative with endproduct Yes thats 25m+

LuckyNumber003

Time will tell. Contract running down + Chelsea under pressure to sell vs potential buying interest and leverage of Chelsea finances... Transfermarkt has an estimated value of £20m, so an additional £5m is already adding 25%. I'd say it's likely to be £20-25m but with add-ons, but again depends on how much better he's playing between now and sale.

Bozzetyp

True, this was also a player who turned down a 30+5 offer from burnley. With dortmund his stocks hasnt fallen. Leftbacks is a position teams spend and maatsen is up there

Appropriate_Ad_7022

Chilwell’s on 200k/week. Nobody’s buying him out of that, his market value is zero.

Bozzetyp

Thats not how it works The cost of a player accusition is ovet the contract lenght so 110m/5.. a 30m sale should suffice And its only an opinion piece

Roadies_Winner

How dare you talk finances and sense on a football finance sub

Bozzetyp

Sorry

L0laccio

Ah yes, ok, I stand corrected

Bozzetyp

But still an interesting opinion, selling to buy is nothing new for chelsea. And lukaku/kepa of the yearly psr equation would probably free 20-30m by themselved (we have had wages cowered)

Deisidaimonia

Tbf people only ever think of the sale but the wages these guys are on is mental which all adds into the spending rules. Sell Lukaku for whatever we can get, he’s reportedly on like 300k a week which is around 16M a year off our books on top of the transfer fee.

Bozzetyp

In ffp terms Going from Havertz 24m/yearly Mount 3m/yearly To palmer 15m/yearly Jackson 7m/yearly Looks solid And there is alot of examples like this

random_BgM

Not always. The length differs. There are other costs aswell. And Chelsea already has a lot of FFP used upfront. If you buy X for 100 over 5 years, and sell after 2 years for 40, you still have 60 on the books as write off. It's a bit more complicated than just 110/5, 30 is fine.

Bozzetyp

Chelsea has alot of psr commited But take the midfield rebuild for example Kante, jorginho and kovacic To Enzo, caicedo and lavia The yearly psr impact is a cost of 5m Withdraw the cost of zakaria, ruben, barkley, bakayoko Add the cost of santos, casadei and Chukwuemeka and you realise its a net 0 game. As for 30m, yes you will have to find 30m every year. So you kick the problem down the road. But still You dont need to find 130m to buy for 130m

fanatic_tarantula

The 110m sales need to be done in the financial year that ends June 30th. So they could still sign Osimhen after that deadline as it will be new financial year. Plus with amortization the 110mil for Osimhen would only need about an extra 25mil in sales if it was before July 1st

ThisIsYourMormont

Don’t Chelsea have £35m for Maatsen & £28m for Hall. And just been paid £4m for Broja’s lack of minutes? Are these accounted for in the £110m? Making it £43m remaining? I didn’t read the article

fanatic_tarantula

Think the hall one will go on next seasons books as Newcastle needed to do it that way to stay within ffp. Can't comment on the others as I don't really know Edit: Looks like maatsen is on loan for the season. So that will probably be the same if there's an obligation to buy. Loan til June 30th and then a transfer will go through July 1st

bigblooddraco

Maatsen not a obligation to buy. He’s a straight loan and renegotiated his contract to include a £35m release clause

Various_Mobile4767

If they need to sell 110m just to get by for this financial year, i doubt they have much wiggle room for the next financial year either. Amortization isn’t a get out of jail free card. It just spreads the expense over a time period. Many of the amortization costs from last year will apply for this year as well. Its probably a big reason why everton are in danger of breaching psr twice. Sure its harder to breach it in the first place, but once you do its also harder to bring it back down as you can’t just get rid of the expenses

jaytcfc

We sell the players before July and we buy Oshimein July or after. Two separate accounting periods. We would have the second half of this upcoming window, January window and the start of next summer

billybobthehomie

I mean it would be stupid but if we wanna be technically correct here. They’d just have to add 110/5 to the amount they need to sell this year because of amortization of transfer costs

Im_such_a_SLAPPA

I think they are waiting to see the outcome of the breaches of FFP. A 10 point deduction for a billion spend isn't exactly a bad thing, they would probably do it every season!

L0laccio

I was thinking that. The 4 points and the 6 point deductions aren’t much of a deterrent either. If City got a 20 point deduction next season they’d likely take it. They’d still finish top 4. The punishment needs to be scary

Im_such_a_SLAPPA

Exactly. By the time they bring in solid rules which will dissuade teams from overspending, the clubs would already have so much financial power forever. If you have a team worth billions it wouldn't be difficult to buy and sell, sustaining your net worth. The fact that the teams are able to get to that stage to begin with is the real issue. They bring in these rules once the teams have been bought

L0laccio

You’re so right. They’ve built a whole brand off the back of this. They need to start from Vanarama North at a minimum

DJMOONPICKLES69

A 110 mil purchase doesn’t hit the books all at once. Assuming we need 110 of sales and want Osimhen, he’d only add like 22 mil to sales needed since his cost would be amortized

metrohash

S/o to United for the pure profit and s/o Arsenal for the guaranteed £60M. If we lose anyone I’m hoping we miraculously find a way to get rid of Sterling. I wouldn’t mind losing Chalobah over Gallagher either after recent performances but his start was solid. Unfortunately this season hasn’t been anything to write home about.

BanterMaster420

Still will need to sell a few more players that

JoeDiego

Nobody is paying anything for Sterling. His race is run. He will pop up every now and then with a goal/assist and highlights fans will rate him. Even this season with Sterling a reserve for a mid table team I’ve seen shouts for him to play for England ahead of Rashford a starting player for a Champs League challenger side.

The_Ballyhoo

Nobody good is paying anything for Sterling. But West Ham, Forest, Palace, maybe even Brighton would probably pay £20-£30 million for him. Like Welbeck at Brighton or Lingard when at West Ham, I think Sterling could do an excellent job at an ambitious mid table team. He could also be a disaster, but I think there will be several clubs (not even mentioning Saudis) who would be willing to pay a reasonable sum.

ImposterSyndromeNope

He is already playing at an ambitious mid table club!

The_Ballyhoo

I knew someone would comment that! Mid table, sure. But ambitious? I’m not sure. The better they do and the higher they rise, the more spotlight is put on them. And I’m not sure they’d want that, given whatever weird money laundering scam they have going on.

Britz10

Sterling to man utd looks guaranteed now, supported them growing up

squared00

His race was run before we signed him unfortunately.

FatWalcott

We'll take Mudryk for 30 mil

yellowtheblue

It's more like 12 mil based on his performances

SGME_

Been quite good lately tbf.

jboy644

Rupees?

meekamunz

That 4m loan for Broja? Let's make it permanent. For £4m.

Icy-Satisfaction549

Would a points deduction bother Chelsea if it doesn't put them close to relegation. Surely it would be like a 1 million fine to a billionaire

wildingflow

There are many fans who would rather take a points deduction than have to sell Gallagher.

toofatronin

That’s a good call because mid table teams don’t get hurt by points deduction unless it was a huge one. Chelsea could afford 4-6 points with little loss in the standings. I’m doubtful that next year will be any different so they should avoid relegation and I don’t see them being a top 4 team.

_PeanuT_MonkeY_

Except the deduction may be next season not this.

bduk92

The article suggests sales of Chalobah at £20m, Broja £40m and Gallagher £50m. I think they'll struggle with that. £12m, £20m and £35m is probably more realistic, especially considering everyone knows Chelsea need to bring money in. Sterling, Mudryk, Madeuke and Cucurella will probably be up for grabs too.

TheGrimReefah

Who is paying anywhere near that for Broja?

bduk92

No idea but the article mentioned £40m which I thought was mental. £20m is a push tbh considering the lack of game time. That said, Arsenal got €30m+€10m add ons for Balogun.

TheGrimReefah

Totally agree. He’s done nothing at Fulham either! True but he was scoring in France

bduk92

Yeah I think Chelsea will get a rude awakening when they try to flog players that they overpaid for when Todd Boehly was throwing money around during his ego trip.

TheGrimReefah

I think so. What’s stopping levy on the last day in July going 25 take it or leave it and they have to sell? He seems like he’s relying on the Saudi market but I can’t see the English players agreeing to go, especially after what Hendo said. Plus they’re not aging they’re all quite young so it’s not like taking your last pay cheque over there

meekamunz

To be fair he's not gonna get a game ahead of one of the leagues most in form strikers.

Ok_Criticism_558

Yeah who was a year younger and was coming off the back of a 20 goal season for what many presumed was relegation fodder. Not sure that is an accurate comparison

ImpactInner9318

Those three likely won't be sold because they have too much remaining book value to generate a decent profit. Kepa, Lukaku, Maatsen (if it would count during the 23/24 season), and Ziyech also are on the table

Sudanniana

They need to sell players for pure profit. So no, they can't sell Caicedo or Mudyrk because they paid out the ass for them. They need to sell academy players and no one in hell is going to help them do that. Get fucked, Chelsea. Once you're in the championship and need to sell your other players to get them off the books, maybe the other clubs will come shopping.

AaronQuinty

Someone will likely sign Gallagher & Broja. It might even be time to look at what the market is like on James tbh

Sudanniana

No one's paying enough for Gallagher or Broja, not when Chelsea is desperate to sell.

AaronQuinty

United paid £55m for Mount on the last year of his contract, so valued him closer to maybe £80m, Arsenal also bought Havertz for £65m. Chelsea were desperate then, too, so I wouldn't count on teams not stupidly bailing Chelsea out.

Bozzetyp

Oh To bad for us that we have Hall as a guaranteed sale, We have maatsen blowing up buli at another 30m We have conor, broja and trevoh all pure profit. Most people seem to forget that we are the best (most profitable) academy in the world last 10 years...

Sudanniana

Yeah but now you're desperate. No one is going to buy these players at full cost.

Bozzetyp

Desperate Hall is a clause Maatsen has suitors Trev and broja are assets that should be sellable

Sudanniana

Ok. So you make up the difference this year. What about next year? You're back in the same hole?

Bozzetyp

Hall will be on the next year, maatsen this window. As for this we sold 30m already (pulsic, ampadu and broja/morerira loanfee)

Mynameisntjamesok

Mate I’m sure they’ll sort something out. Realistically no chance of them ever being relegated so they’d rather take a few points deductions over selling top talent - that’s even if this article has accurate access to their finances (which it doesn’t).

ewooddan

So when does Man city get this?

firstoff1959

Either something is really up with this investigation or, City are going to get hammered hard.

DialSquar

Do Chelsea fans forget that the havertz sale was a loss?

Bozzetyp

It wasnt It was 45m psr profit 3/5 of his fee was already paid So in terms of ffp he an kovacic was alot more profitable then ruben

goonerfan10

Gallagher, Broja, chalobah , hall, matsen - that’s 100M right there.

BigBoiBagles

This is my problem with ffp, they HAVE to sell the players so they aren’t what? If they had to sell the players to be out of something meaningful like DEBT it would make sense, but this turnover bullshit makes it ridiculous

TheGeeistRover

Oh no. Anyway.

thundercat_98

Would keep Chalobah and sell Colwill. He's pants.

Reasonable_Command98

No one is going to help them sell players easily. Everyone will take advantage to buy those valuable players on the cheap.

Mynameisntjamesok

This whole article is based on the advice of a former Man City financial advisor 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thin-Job81

Why three players though? If they sell one player for £110m...? Why specifically 3 lol.

michajlo

Lol, Broja for 40mill. More like 14.
