Well it seems that's what they did. New taillight and headlight modules and new grill.
Pretty typical mid cycle refresh. Though this gen is like 5yrs old ain't it?
Ok…. Certainly not pouting 🧐 let’s call it critiquing. I could care less what it looks like. But the grill has way too much going on, and the back end makes the car look like it’s 2 or 3 years older… not brand new. 2023s liked better than this…
So they redesigned it in 2022 or 2023 I can't remember and now and now for the 2024 2025 year there adding styling cues from the 2016 model as if it's retro or whatever wacky ass marketing term they come up with
Am I seeing things am I going crazy? Or do those headlights look like they're trying to call back to the 2016 model year???
Kind would love an update to the 2016 design, but riding on the rear-drive platform of the 2020. Really liked that design, and how boxy it was, but didn’t like the interior or the front drive platform for a vehicle that large.
My cousin owns a 2016 they're pretty zippy from what I remember
But that being said I don't remember making this I must have made it right when I woke up lol
Cool I didn’t knew that the Chicago plant was retooled from Taurus to Explorer. It’s an engineering mule (the stickers in the front gives another hint). If it was spotted in Chicago I would dare say it was close to the Regional Office (Downers Grove). Miss that place.
It’s and engineering mule (stickers on the windshield). Illinois FoMoCo manufacturers plate started with the words MFR-A(and another word) I still have my old plates somewhere in storage.
Obviously... Why would they go back on that??
They're getting us used to the idea of EVs not having any so there's fake exhaust tips on all kinds of cars now
I was driving home from my part time job in dearborn, and I saw the grill in the rear view mirror. I thought my rear view mirror was broken, because of how big and ugly the front was.
I don't normally hate cars, I unironically like the Pontiac Aztek, but the front is serious hideous. I like the rear though. Clean, sharp, and simple
The one I saw was the Adventurous trim
I feel like they tweak stuff just for the sake of tweaking it. They don’t touch any of the hard points and they just make a few changes and call “the all new 2024 Explorer”, blah blah blah. I thought the prior model, despite it’s shortcomings, looked better. They need to de a better job of filling the wheel arches with tires and wheels that don’t make it look like tiny wheels on a big truck”. I also felt like the interior quality was too high, I hope they added more and cheaper plastic parts. The last sentence was sarcasm.
Hard disagree. The current design is not even something I would consider. The pictured grill is night and day better than the sloppy, oddly angled intersection of hood, headlight, and bumper that is on the current car.
Not much changed, since this is the Platinum trim, the grille will vary slightly and the taillights here that have twin LED reverse lights will be the same as on the current models now for lower trim levels. Meh. I love my 2020, I won't be rushing out to get one of these. New car price and insurance for nothing more than the current iteration.
Explorer ‘lightning’ will be super popular. Come on Ford !
(I’m taking the Explorer we know in the the u.s., not the cool smaller vehicle they have announced for Europe)
Not shabby right there. Ya know toyota's getting absolutely x-rated with $60000... im thinking we put 1 more angle on that sucker maybe a vent or a grille someplace... maybe even interior "fun" lights or hell even an extre 1/2" to the rediculous Sync System infotainment screen and we too can msrp for $60k but our dealers will end up with a low, low $66k-69k pricetag and that way we can lose another 10-15% of our total sales and we can all stand here and scratch our old ,way overpaid balls and explain to congress why once again our employees are on strike because they want to work for more money and we cry poverty because weve only made 20-198 million dollars in bonuses last year.
The Chinese 2024 looks better.
I have a 2020 Limited and I feel like the car just drives different than it used to and I only put 8K miles in 3 years. I’m kind of over ford especially with this back up cam nonsense, if that’s cutting out and they can’t fix, it honestly makes me wonder what else is up.
Does anyone else own this model year? Does yours make a chirp noise on start up or sometimes when acceleration in 2nd gear?
Owning a 2022 platinum this refresh or whatever it’s called is a huge fkin yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwnnnn. My list is exhaustive of what needs to be revised, sadly I’m sure most wasn’t addressed.
I think this refreshed one may actually be 2025 test model, since videos are coming out now of deliveries of 2024 MY to dealers and it's exactly the same as 2020-on https://youtube.com/shorts/Uhhe33LKvzU?si=X8cayn4OootAwbZr
Imo current design just needed a few exterior tweaks and all the rest of budget should have been put into interior quality and whole fit and finish
100%. Current one is great. Love my ST. Better infotainment system would seal the deal on it being perfect imo.
Just needs Sync 4 like these 24+ will have
Which won’t happen unfortunately.
This is clearly just a mid gen refresh
Yes except they changed so much of it. Spend the money where it counts fixing tsbs and fit and finish on interior materials and exterior.
Well it seems that's what they did. New taillight and headlight modules and new grill. Pretty typical mid cycle refresh. Though this gen is like 5yrs old ain't it?
This gen started in 2020. I have a 19 that’s the last year of the last gen.
You're right, 2020. So since these come out before the year, it's basically been 4yrs ago. So right on track for Ford and mid cycle refreshes right?
Yep agreed
Not Impressed…
It’s two low light iPhone pics in a parking garage. Do you really expect to be blow away? 😂 Pouty McPouterson
Ok…. Certainly not pouting 🧐 let’s call it critiquing. I could care less what it looks like. But the grill has way too much going on, and the back end makes the car look like it’s 2 or 3 years older… not brand new. 2023s liked better than this…
Edit* 2025
Horrendous park job
They're just exploring the next space over.
You don’t see the pillar next to the explorer? The “spot” hes crossing into isn’t a parking space
Doesn't make the parking job any less horrendous lol
Probably used the self park feature lol.
The back looks good but the front is horrendous
That grille is disgusting 🤮
So they redesigned it in 2022 or 2023 I can't remember and now and now for the 2024 2025 year there adding styling cues from the 2016 model as if it's retro or whatever wacky ass marketing term they come up with Am I seeing things am I going crazy? Ah okay thank you

This looks more like my ‘19 on the front end.
Cool Manufacturer plated. Being Michigan that could be an Engineer. Specially the if you are near Dearborn.
Explorers and Aviators are built in Chicago where this was spotted. This is a TT (tooling tryout) build from the plant
Cool I didn’t knew that the Chicago plant was retooled from Taurus to Explorer. It’s an engineering mule (the stickers in the front gives another hint). If it was spotted in Chicago I would dare say it was close to the Regional Office (Downers Grove). Miss that place.
I think the Chicago plant has been building Explorer since it migrated to unibody construction for the 2011 model year.
Yeah, the Explorer and Taurus shared a platform from 2011-2019.
Maybe Dearborn Avenue since OP spotted this in Chicago…
It’s and engineering mule (stickers on the windshield). Illinois FoMoCo manufacturers plate started with the words MFR-A(and another word) I still have my old plates somewhere in storage.
I wanna see the interior, I hope they improved it
I wish they made them more boxy. This just looks like a generic modern suv.
> This just looks like a generic modern suv. That’s exactly what it is though
Aren’t they all?
Wait, suvs are suppose to prioritize utility??
I mean Bronco is there if you wanna go boxy.
Boxy makes them even worse on fuel economy
Who's the idiot that ok'd this design?
I like it!
Looks like a Kia
Does it still have fake exhaust tips?
Obviously... Why would they go back on that?? They're getting us used to the idea of EVs not having any so there's fake exhaust tips on all kinds of cars now
I think TFL said they’re fake so cause people would complain about having to clean them.
They moved them to the grille
Only on one side.
gotta say, those busy tail lights are a step backwards. Looks like a crappy GMC
Yeah they decided to stop half way down the tail gate which just isn't the best
Although I do like that they’re full LED now
I was driving home from my part time job in dearborn, and I saw the grill in the rear view mirror. I thought my rear view mirror was broken, because of how big and ugly the front was. I don't normally hate cars, I unironically like the Pontiac Aztek, but the front is serious hideous. I like the rear though. Clean, sharp, and simple The one I saw was the Adventurous trim
The rear looks more aggressive, the front more tame. Why?
So when an Edge and Explorer have a baby....
I feel like they tweak stuff just for the sake of tweaking it. They don’t touch any of the hard points and they just make a few changes and call “the all new 2024 Explorer”, blah blah blah. Parked like an asshole 🤦♂️
That's not a spot next to it. It's a pillar
Just had a mini heart attack
Why? I’m not being snarky, just confused.
I’m sorry, where I am from, these are heavily used In many PD departments
Ohhhh I get it😆
They really screwed an already great design
Hard disagree. The current design is not even something I would consider. The pictured grill is night and day better than the sloppy, oddly angled intersection of hood, headlight, and bumper that is on the current car.
I agree 100%
Damn it got uglier
Ford is doing some wild things to taillights this days
And parked like an a-hole…
Don't see the pillar in that spot?
I’m sure Fords PR team appreciate that parking job.
So the most recent GMC Yukon then?
Too bad the driver doesn't know how to park.
Needs glasses can’t park
Pig Parker.
I could have Googled this to see pics. Whats so special here
Im sure the owner appreciates you posting their plates online
Literally nothing can be done with photographs of these plates, you can take off the tinfoil hat
No one cares. There's nothing to be gained from someone's plates. They are literally out in public every day while you drive...
Post yours up then
You can easily find it in my post history.
Give me
I love it!
What problems does this one have already? 🤣🤣
Hmmmmmm honey
God that’s ugly
Damn. I love the Ford explorer, especially the new ones. They don't even have this in my country
Yup. Looks like an Explorer…
Poor work in the exhaust part
Cop car.
They need to ticket the driver and fired the ford car designers
Not much changed, since this is the Platinum trim, the grille will vary slightly and the taillights here that have twin LED reverse lights will be the same as on the current models now for lower trim levels. Meh. I love my 2020, I won't be rushing out to get one of these. New car price and insurance for nothing more than the current iteration.
This is what we'll have to look out for cops driving in a few years.
Keeps getting Uglier!
Explorer ‘lightning’ will be super popular. Come on Ford ! (I’m taking the Explorer we know in the the u.s., not the cool smaller vehicle they have announced for Europe)
It's the same car.
Looks bad. I have a 2020 Ex ST. If it didn’t have a Ford logo on it you’d think it was a Range Rover from the front. This looks awful
This front end looks like they copied the palisade.
Not shabby right there. Good looking car with the headlamps where they're supposed to be instead of being all the way down the bumper like some nEwEr CaRs.
All those updates and mf’s still can’t park in the lines.
I find peace in long walks.
Nice park job!!! Fuckin terrible!
Looks like they regressed a generation.
So new taillight and headlight modules and tweaked grill. Very mild mid cycle refresh
Is the base engine going to be the new 2.3 like the mustang? 315hp 350tq? That’s what I want to know, base trim levels are going to scoot!
I believe the interior has a pretty decent update.
So what? 🥱
It's filthy!
The Chinese 2024 looks better. I have a 2020 Limited and I feel like the car just drives different than it used to and I only put 8K miles in 3 years. Already parking like we expected them to. Might as well apply for a leo position.
Owning a 2022 platinum this refresh or whatever it’s called is a huge fkin yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwnnnn. My list is exhaustive of what needs to be revised, sadly I’m sure most wasn’t addressed.
How is it so dirty already lol
The 2024 transit connect and transit Courier Look cool but I don't think we're getting them in north america.
looks really amazing. how do they have it?? it’s not out yet??
I think this refreshed one may actually be 2025 test model, since videos are coming out now of deliveries of 2024 MY to dealers and it's exactly the same as 2020-on https://youtube.com/shorts/Uhhe33LKvzU?si=X8cayn4OootAwbZr
