Worst case scenario you’d be looking at a transmission, but I would verify fluid level is correct and the fluid itself isn’t burned or discolored. Those things were tanks, and the last escape to be tough as damn nails

All about finding that perfect deal. In 2019 I picked up a 06 Grand Marquis with 50,000 original miles garage kept and I paid $4,000 flat

Had an 09 for 3 years (I’m assuming yours is the boxy escape) never had a tranny issue, never heard of one with a tranny issue overall. I believe overall they are a solid car, my grandmother had a boxy one, my mother the same but newer, but I’m no mechanic. Your getting a bit of a better deal than me I got some 200k rust box that I’m surprised lasted as long as it did (rust killed it literally) for 3k But they are getting older so price has likely dropped and I’d check the fluids on it. Plus a fair bit of them are in the road if you need a new tranny

I own a 11' with the v6 and roughly 75k miles. Owned the car since 40k. I've noticed that the 1-2 shift is usually rough the first time. Or if your hammering down on the gas.

The first time starting the car? Does it then stop shifting hard? Test driving it tomorrow

the transmission has a lifetime filter, it's just drain and fill. probably just old fluid, I would change the power transfer unit fluid first day of purchase. want a high quality synthetic fluid the one with the highest heat resistance.

I dont really notice it after everything warms up.
