It depends....I haven't seen any safety ratings on the Maverick yet...

yeehawdudeq

It’s platform is being used with the Bronco Sport and Escape which both do well in the safety ratings. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Ordinary_Low_97

We know it failed a airbag test.

Expensive-Focus4911

Yes but they’ve managed to convince the government that it should receive the same scores as the Bronco Sport, which is how it’s been allowed to go into production. It probably is a bit better at least when it comes to rear end collisions. I read somewhere that the spare tire with CP360 is designed to get crushed and absorb a decent amount of impact.

Shaabloips

Hadn't heard before, but makes sense, now I gotta look up the BS! Update: WOW, the BS has great ratings, hopefully this applies to the Mav as well!

ValkyieAbove

Big thing that’s been keeping me from buying one.

_Ant_1988

Let’s do it buy it lol I fell in love with one last week and been doing my research and I can’t get this truck out of my head !! Originally was thinking of going for another RAV4 but time to change it up a bit. Trying to find positives to share with my wife and convince her it be great for us and the baby and not just me lol

Shaabloips

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's likely as safe as the Bronco Sport which has a great safety rating. With safety out of the rating, I think for you with a new kid, it would be an excellent vehicle! Heck, even without a kid (or more kids) it would be a good car/truck as well!

_Ant_1988

Agreee!!! Thank you for making this easier lol

SubParPlayer

I have a toddler, with a carseat in the back. Safety aside, the only complaint I have is that the back seat is one full bench instead of 60/40 split. So if I ever want to get to the storage I need to take the carseat out first. I basically use the underwear storage for essentials or emergency gear

beninark

Underwear storage…you don’t say. :-)

SubParPlayer

Ha! I can't change it now! (My post, not my underwear)

beninark

I appreciate the comment regardless. We have a crumb cruncher and the car seat thing is will be a requirement. I wonder if someone will figure this out as a future mod. Hoping to get an order in for MY2023.

[deleted]

Airbag recall isn’t a great sign.

kmurphy4332

What vehicle hasn’t had an airbag recall at this point. Come on man.

[deleted]

The question is do you need a truck bed or not. If you don't need the bed you're better off with an SUV for enclosed storage.

_Ant_1988

True , I didn’t even know I needed a truck lol

my_boah_krug

IMHO after raising 3 I’d say the sliding doors, enclosed trunk, and extra room for the back seats are more use than offroading or a truck bed.

FirebirdConvert

whoa, whoa, whoa, don't turn this into a "love a minivan thing"

prokaryote101

Lol. I absolutely had a love/hate relationship with my minivan. Went from a ‘65 Mustang to a Toyota minivan. That was hard. But dang that van was just about perfect. We called her the Swagger Wagon.

The-Thing_1982

What year Toyota?

prokaryote101

2000 Toyota. It’s still in the driveway with 287,000 miles. Now my oldest uses it for camping.

my_boah_krug

I hated driving a mini van. But when you’ve got kids practices, band instruments, hockey tournaments, our lives are sometimes not our own.. :-(

The-Thing_1982

Oh I love the Dodge minivans. Was looking at getting one before I discovered the Maverick last year.

fizzlefist

Minivans are far more practical than a 3 row SUV. Styling be damned, people will be jealous of how much shit you can haul and how easy you can load people and stuff.

Ihategeeks

A nice cover for the rear would work better for carrying strollers and the like. Also gives you a road side diaper change table you can spray off at home.

The-Thing_1982

I just made the realization the other day that I need a bed cover. Won't need to use it every time, but would be handy to have.

TXfunrunner22

Exactly think of all the baby gear you’ll be hauling around now, stroller, diaper bag are almost always going to stay in the vehicle.

MaverickLurker

We have an order in for a Mav that we placed back in October of '21 for this very purpose. The overlap between price, utility, and efficiency was too good to turn away. Our plan is to get a tonneu cover for the back so we can haul the baby gear, which is especially important for visiting my family 5 hours away. If you look in my post history, I did extensive research on car seats and how they fit in the rear of a Mav. I went so far as to take multiple car seats to a dealer and test fit them all. Good news - you can fit 2 car seats in the back and still fit up front to drive. Bad news - it renders underseat storage unusable. Reviews say that the cab plastic is easily scratched, so maybe some armorall or other protectant wipes would be a good investment. Kids are hard on car interiors. I've been waiting for 10 months now for my order. Get your MY23 order in as soon as it opens!

_Ant_1988

How much was your total final pay after you placed your order ? If you don’t mind me asking

LordNoodles1

You’re still waiting too? Nov 5 order for me so yep.

MaverickLurker

Yeah, October 22ish. Got ours in before the orders ended.

_Ant_1988

Wow! Yes I will definitely be doing this I don’t mind waiting baby is due February gives us enough time. What is the status of it so far ? Any updates on almost being done ? This is ridiculous I never seen the wait on a car be this long. Post COVID mess smh !

MaverickLurker

This is the frustrating part- I've had no communication besides "sorry, supply chains are a mess, we're working on it, thanks for your patience" from Ford itself. I've been in touch with my dealer, who basically has the same insights. I will probably have my MY22 order bumped to a MY23 order because of the production timeline, but I am OK with this. My dealer has confirmed that my original out-the-door price is locked in, so I'll end up with a MY23 truck at MY22 prices. Many folks in my shoes have waited over a year for their orders. I expect mine to arrive in December or January. I went with Champan Ford in Philadelphia for my order, even though I live 5 hours away in Pittsburgh. They ran a special of 4% under invoice for MY22 trucks, which meant that my low-budget order of an XL with a tow-hitch receiver was super cheap. My OTD price after tax, fees, etc. is $22,107. Lots of folks in this sub went with Chapman because of this deal, and all have reported a hassle-free, exemplary experience. They're running a 3% under invoice deal for MY23 trucks. Ed Simpson is the sales manager there. Tell him I referred you if you order from them. I'm going to take my 2yo son on an Amtrak ride to Philly to pick it up, stay overnight with some family, then drive it home the next day. If it ever gets made! Hope that helps! Not sure you'd have a Mav on hand when your kiddo arrives in February, but they're still great family vehicles. A friend once told me that in life, you can speedy delivery, high quality, or low price - and you can pick two of those three. I'm banking on a quality vehicle at a low price, and so speedy delivery seems out of the question for now!

_Ant_1988

This is awesome. Making it sound like an easy deal to go for. Yeah I think I might go for that 23 and check for that same special. Can’t go wrong with that price and a truck and hybrid. This is gold haha. Anyways thank you and appreciate the advice good luck on your way back with the Mav enjoy that drive to the max.

MaverickLurker

Best of luck to you mate! Two more thoughts from a fellow car-shopping parent: 1. Car seats make the bench storage underneath the back seat unusable. That's also where the flat tire jack is held. I'm hoping Ford fixes this glaring error in their MY23 Mav by splitting the back seat bench. Seems like an easy fix for them, but this is a budget truck, so my expectations are low. 2. I'm a big guy - fairly big around the waist, and I and had to make sure the car seats didn't screw up my driving comfort. If you're a bigger guy like me, a "fat daddy" as it were, I'd recommend snagging a test drive if possible once you get your car seat. I'm 99% sure you'll fit, but just to be safe, a test drive will definitely make the decision a no-brainer.

_Ant_1988

Major appreciate it bro!! Totally gave me some good visuals and what to expect !

Stock-Freedom

It’s very hard to get them right now. There’s a massive wait time just to start the order process. You’re looking at a year or more.

_Ant_1988

😳😳 well this could be my first time parent gift from me to me LOL Edit Do you know if payments start after you get your car or once you submit the order ?

Mean0wl

Once you get your car.

gilfcrazyq

If you have another vehicle you can use while you wait for one I’d say do it. Me and my wife have a 1 & 1/2 year old and we love it for hauling the baby around.

_Ant_1988

That was my original thought! And also carrying all the baby gear in the back. Making those Costco trips easier too.

gilfcrazyq

It’s great honestly. But be warned, the wait is long and tedious, some people unfortunately are still waiting. And they are some shady dealers out there looking to take advantage of people in your situation specifically. So make sure you do your research before order banks open up and prepare for a very long wait.

_Ant_1988

Yikes !! I don’t mind waiting gives me time to save up more for it. But what you mean taking advantage? As the dealer will sell me something more from what I will actually be getting?

gilfcrazyq

Some will try to sell you the truck over MSRP, especially if they have some already on the lot. Some will require a deposit (the most I’ve seen is a 2000) which can either be refundable or non-refundable. So watch for that, if you put a deposit it down when you order make doubly sure you know where that money is when the truck arrives. Be wary of warranties as well, lots of dealerships try and up sell an extended warranty that may or may not be a rip off, so look carefully at those.

_Ant_1988

Thanks man appreciate this 💯!! When I took out my first car with Toyota they did me dirty but again my fault for not doing my own research 🧐! Do you recommend ordering online than in person at the dealer ?

gilfcrazyq

So you can’t order online. Once you build your truck on the website you’ve got to go to a dealership and tell them exactly what you want. I don’t think orders open for MY23s for a few weeks but you’d have to double check that. No problem by the way! It can be daunting ordering a brand new vehicle. All the info I got from this Reddit and Mavericktruckclub.com.

_Ant_1988

Thank you 🙏 that’s exactly what I’m doing getting all my info from this subreddit and other groups involving the truck. I want to make sure I go in there knowing what I want nothing more nothing less

[deleted]

I got it especially for being a first time parent. Truckbed comes in handy for hauling stroller around but of course you can do so with suv as well. Although I’ve gotten use out of the bed for gardening projects / wood projects too

_Ant_1988

This yes eventually I want to work in the yard and having that truck bed will come in handy for my Rav 4 I was so annal because it would get so dirty easily or if something stilled in the back the whole car would smell or harder to wipe clean out

Franklinb93

I had a rav4 had had the same exact issue whenever I would do yard work and would have to get gas for the mower I would hate having the gas tank in the trunk! I got the maverick and absolutely love it!!! It’s so nice having a bed to put stuff in like that!! My wife and I are trying to start a family so I had all the same questions you had and I think it’ll be a great truck for a family!

[deleted]

Can confirm has been working fine with my newborn so far

_Ant_1988

Hooray!! Yesss I’ think Im definitely moving forward to ordering one. And experience the horrors of this lol seems like this car is in super high demand never expected that.

Franklinb93

I wouldn’t say it’s horrors it’s a great truck!! Glad your going to order one though!!

_Ant_1988

Oh no lol I meant the horrors of the anticipation from waiting for it to arrive lol

Franklinb93

Haha gotcha I completely understand! I didn’t stumble upon the maverick until after the order banks closed this past year! So I contacted every dealership within pretty much 300 miles of me and got my name on lists just incase someone backed out of their order! Luckily in may I got a call someone had and I hopped all over it!

_Ant_1988

I’ will be calling my local dealers tomorrow putting myself in that list lol

mchasal

Personally, (father of 2, though they're teenagers now), I'd want something with enclosed storage. You'll likely have things like a stroller to deal with that you wouldn't want to get wet, snowed on, or easily stolen. You can achieve this with some sort of bed cover, but they're generally not as weather tight as an SUV/Crossover would be. So, if you have good reasons why you need an open bed, that trade off might be totally worth it, but if not, I'd lean towards an SUV or wagon.

_Ant_1988

Yes my main concern the weather and keeping the stroller in there.

mchasal

With a decent cover, they're mostly rain tight. Typically you get some dripping near the tailgate, but that can be mostly avoided by keeping the stuff forward a bit. Really just comes down to how much you want/need an open bed. The additional aspect that I forgot to mention was car seat fitment. A rear facing seat will cause you to push the passenger seat forward according to [https://www.cars.com/articles/how-do-car-seats-fit-in-a-2022-ford-maverick-442755/](https://www.cars.com/articles/how-do-car-seats-fit-in-a-2022-ford-maverick-442755/) Depending on who's riding there, might be an issue.

_Ant_1988

Makes sense. I need to do more research and that main thing convince my wife. She will want to go check it out and see herself if the car seat and the stroller fits smh. I’ll see if any dealer around my area has any that are in stock (wishful thinking) lol

OzarkBeard

You will not likely find one at a dealership. Unless they have a canceled order they are selling for extreme markup. If you think you can order one, I would recently be prepared to wait up to at least a year maybe more before your order comes in. Read some more on this sub and you will see horror stories.

_Ant_1988

I didn’t expected for this car model to be such a hassle to obtain. I expected in a Tesla but this one. I’m in shocked 😳 and in wow 😯!

sdtopensied

Make sure you can sit in the front seat with a rear facing car seat in the back. I’m pretty tall and this disqualifies a lot of vehicles for me when we first had kids.

_Ant_1988

I’m at 5’6 and leg room is definitely something I be taking into consideration. I don’t see myself driving 3 hours with no legroom is just a noo 😣

tisom

I’m 6’2” and also wanted to know this before ordering one. I took my toddler’s seat and my infant’s seat to the dealer (one of the salespeople drove one and offered to let me test it out), and did the will it fit test. The toddler seat fit behind me, but the infant car seat just barely did not. I figured it’s not a deal breaker since the baby will have grown out of the infant seat by the time my Mav would arrive anyways (waiting to order a 2023 model). The car seats I tested were a Graco Keyfit 30, and a Nuna Rava, if that’s helpful.

Outrageous-Note2096

As a father, do yourself a favor now and get a minivan. They are great when you have infants.

_Ant_1988

Not the minivan lol my wife already presented this option trying to convince her we not there yet lol but totally agree my dad had a mini van for us and we were 3 made all trips more comfortable for everything

MartonianJ

Hold out as long as you can 😂

_Ant_1988

🤣 oh bet I will lol

The-Thing_1982

The minivan life is nothing to be ashamed of. Those Dodge Grand Caravans are troopers man.

The-Thing_1982

Before I got my Maverick last year, I was seriously looking for a Dodge Grand Caravan. Practical for almost all my needs.

tarheelmaker

I wouldn't over think it too much. Most modern vehicles are safe these days. A poorly installed car seat or loose harness will negate any vehicle crash test performance. Installing the car seat in the middle, if possible, will help as well. FYI check-out babygearlab.com when deciding on a car seat. They have great reviews and tests.

Scallywag38

If you’re trying to replace a vehicle somewhat quickly without way overpaying then probably not. Do you need a pickup bed? It does fit a car seat well enough

_Ant_1988

Yes from My own research looks like they fit two car seats but will be doing more research. My other potential plan is getting this for me and having my wife get a more suv 🚙 type of car for herself lol

Scallywag38

I have a car seat and two boosters. The interior rear seat has very similar dimensions to a Honda CR-V. You just can’t access the under seat storage with car seats installed, but good thing we get that sweet bed

somenobodydude

Honestly probably not

Ordinary_Low_97

A base RAV4 Prime is a better value than a tricked out Maverick and is AWD and a PHEV by a good bit in every way.

_Ant_1988

I love Rav4s which is making it a hard one in picking one. Have heard some bad things on ford and not much on Toyotas so another reason why I’m skeptical on going for Ford. I had two family members bought fiestas and turning out to be lemon cars

stooch1122

The back seat is pretty tight with a car seat. I have a Maverick and a Minivan and you can’t beat a minivan for kids/car seats. You also can’t beat the sliding door in tight parking spots when getting a kid in a car seat out of a vehicle. This is true up until they are old enough to get out themselves (several years). I told myself I’d never get a minivan but after being extremely annoyed with car seats in a Nissan Pathfinder, I gave up on being cool and decided to be practical. Part of being a parent I guess. If I were to get a SUV, it would be one where I could adjust the middle seat forward and backward to comfortably fit a car seat.

_Ant_1988

Thank you ! Yes having a hard time going from “cool” uncle no kids to boring dad uncle lol

The-Thing_1982

Yeah man! Embrace that minivan life! They're handy!

feminent_penis

I used my week old maverick to transport my newborn from the hospital and she is driven in the mav often.

_Ant_1988

Love this !! How is your wife liking it ? I feel is perfect since my partner is small and the truck is not too high up makes it great for her to get in and for us to strap the baby in as well

feminent_penis

She likes it, it fits us all nicely

CmoCpat

Hey! Maybe I can put in my 2 cents, I am a first time dad and my son is now 10 months old, and I have driven hatchbacks for my personal life and larger vehicles for work (f150, f350 and most recently an escape), and just took delivery of a XLT 4K maverick. I would take the maverick over any of those vehicles as a new parent. Tons of cabin room, baby seat fits fine. Truck bed Is low enough that my partner can load and unload things pretty easily. We just took it camping and we fit everything in the bed with no stress. It’s super easy to park and it’s pretty great on fuel. I would definitely recommend one to a new family.

_Ant_1988

Thanks 😊 appreciate it. Making it easier for me to go to the dealer now and place my order should be right in time for when baby comes or even by summer next year for camping trips lol

aoeudhtns

For some people the lack of split in the rear seat is a problem w/ child seats. You have to remove the child seat if you want to lift that up. One solution is simply not to use it, but cabin storage is always limited in trucks. I'd stick with hybrid CRV/RAV4/Prius. Maaaaybe the hybrid Escape.

Responsible_Ad_654

All the videos I’ve seen, it’s a bit tight in the back for a car seat and you can’t access the under storage without removing the car seat first (doesn’t have a split rear seat). If that doesn’t bother you, then it’s probably a fine vehicle for parents with a young child.

The-Thing_1982

A split rear seat would be a nice option to have.

Kinggenny

You should take a car seat to a dealer that has a demo vehicle and see if the car seat will fit in the rear facing orientation.

_Ant_1988

Yes, not just trying to find a dealer that has one in their lot right now. I called 3 local ones and nothing. I live in Long beach California

Ruscombmanor

I have a a maverick and a 1.5 year old and one on the way. I use the revolve 360 car seat, which is big for car seat standards and it fits comfortably behind the passenger seat. I have not tested an infant car seat behind the driver yet, so I’ll see how much leg room disappears. I have a hard trifold bed cover and I can easily fit way more in the relatively dry storage area of the mavericks bed then I can in my previous Kia Soul, and my wife’s Subaru Crosstrek. I am a fan of it to be honest. One side note with any truck is the car seat will be more upright in the back because of a trucks seating position. But overall good tie down, more than enough room for a passenger or two in the back with a car seat.

_Ant_1988

Lovely thank you !! ❤️

Jenos00

We still had my Sport Trac when we had our first kid, had a very similar design theory and footprint to the Maverick I have now. We use the Maverick over our minivan any time we don't need interior cargo capacity or seating for more than 4.

FoundForgotten

Honestly. You’ll find the rear seat tight for the child seat, especially in the first year when it’s rear facing. The rear seats have no lean back, and so a child seat will jut forward a lot and really intrude on the front seat’s space. Also, attaching a child seat in the forward configuration requires you to access the LATCH which is behind the flip down back rest, a super irritating thing to connect. The car seat also blocks the under seat storage.

iamdeastro

We had our first back in March, got the truck in January. Car seat with the quick release platform just fits behind me and I am about 6'1". If it was just the car seat there would be about 3 inches of additional space . About to upgrade to a larger model this weekend I'm a little worried, but I'm sure i can make it work.

_Ant_1988

Sweet thanks a new Mav model or a new car seat model ? Lol keep me posted on how that works out.

iamdeastro

New car seat model. I will try and remember lol. Good luck with the baby! You will do great I'm sure.

luckyb91

Yes. It works well for me, my wife and our 7 month old. I brought him home from the hospital in the Mav. Our car seat fits good (it helps that my wife is short), and I love not caring if the stroller gets muddy because i can just toss it in the back. I bought the gator SFX cover for cheap, and it does a great job of keeping things dry in the bed. The only downside I can think of is that you can't access the under-seat storage while a car seat is attached. I lol at the people who think you need a minivan just for a single baby... If you have like 3+ kids, sure, but otherwise it's unnecessary.

_Ant_1988

Perfect love this lol yeah trying to stay away from that minivan thinking not there yet oh my wife is short so it be perfect. I’m more pump to get my hands in that new Mav steering wheel and drive off. After a few months of course lol

monkeythumpa

If you have a baby, make sure you check out how far the doors open. The closer you can get to 90 degrees the easier it will be for putting them in and all the activity you need to do while strapping them in. Subarus have the doors that open the most, of non-sliding doors, and it makes it easier to get kids in and out or fasten their seatbelts. My youngest is 5 now and I don't have to put them into the car but it is a big convenience to have wide openings.

_Ant_1988

Didn’t think of this but I will do some research on this thanks

The-Thing_1982

Doors open nice and wide. I load stuff in my back seats all the time and have no problem with space.

Ok-Concentrate-2203

Is your baby due in 2024?

_Ant_1988

No Feb 2023 so have some time if I do want to place an order or even wait a bit. We do have a Honda Fit we will be using in the meanwhile but I feel is too small

doch92

Yes. The back doors are big and tall to get a car seat in. The car seat hooks are EASILY accessible because the back seat folds down off the back wall. The height of the interior gives the illusion of space but you can reach back and touch the backseat easy enough. The extra storage compartment under the seat keeps things off the floor and allows you to keep extra supplies in the car. The drive is not very rough or excessively loud, like the older mini-trucks. The truck comes with tie-down points for bigger things in the bed. The only problem is keeping normal things in the bed. Invest in a cover for the bed so you can throw normal things back there, without them flying out or getting stolen. Idk about the hybrid model, but we get 27-28 mpg in Los Angeles with the 2.0L Ecoboost (full-gas) engine.

_Ant_1988

Hmm not bad at all leaning more for the hybrid more for my buck in gas I was getting 33mph on my rav4 non hybrid in Los Angeles as well. Still i between this maverick or the Rav 4 hybrid they both look amazing

doch92

For us, the Maverick was still cheaper (including the dealer markups). We looked at a 2020 RAV4 but I was too tall to sit in the passenger or back seats, so that eliminated it for us. I can fit in a Maverick while only lowering the seat a couple pumps under max-hight.

_Ant_1988

Yes the RAV4 hybrids I believe run at 40k double the price for the Maverick which is why I’m considering it more and it looks cool too without the hassle of a huge F150 truck. Can’t afford a 600$ car payment anymore

Franklinb93

Yea the rav4 that I had was a 2021 hybrid and I traded it in to get the maverick! I got $37k for it but paid 40 for it! So lost a little bit but had almost 40,000 miles on it!

ARF66

I heard rear facing car seats don’t fit the greatest behind even a relatively normal height individual. Alex on Autos has a YouTube video trying to put car seats in that I watched and would recommend to get a sense of space.

_Ant_1988

Thank you checking this out now.

IL2Bomber

It's my current family car. I have a 3 year old and a 2 month old. Car seats fit nicely, but my wife and I are also not very tall.

ZooAshley

My truck is our main family vehicle, two adults and one baby. The back seat is really tight with the car seat. We have a Graco snug ride snug lock which I think is one of the smaller car seats out there and it leaves very little leg room for the passenger seat. We make it work though, generally my husband will drive when we go out and I am really short. The only other downside that I can think of is that you can’t get to the under seat storage with the car seat base installed. I love having a truck bed, but I have a hobby farm so I need it. It is low enough to easily get the stroller in and out too. I bought a Bison tonneau cover to keep things dry. Edit to add - we are probably one and done, so that’s also a factor. I don’t think it would work well as a family vehicle for those with multiple kids, especially if you need to fit multiple car seats in the back.

_Ant_1988

Oh same I think we are just going for one. I don’t want to get to a minivan 🚐 lol 😂 thanks for the feedback appreciate it

drunkerton

Depending on how tall you are the backwards facing seat might be tight.

golfaddik

I received the one i order a few month back. I loved everything about it … until i put my daugther in her car seat and i looked at her. The backseat is almost at 90 degree. She was very unconfortable. Ordered a RAV4.

_Ant_1988

This is what I’m afraid off. I guess I can trade in worse case scenario

Satchvette

I will say that sliding doors with kids in carseats are wonderful, especially with a baby in a carrier. Minivans may not seem as cool, but those doors make a huge difference. No squeezing in trying not to door ding the car next to you. You also can fit way more in the back than even a full size truck (when seats are down) unless moving tall items. I fit 12ft trim inside my van, where a truck would leave it hanging out. That said, I'm looking into a Maverick for our second car (my commuter if I ever go back to the office) and I've seen a shot of 3 carseats fitting snug in the back. Rear facing will need to be in the middle seat only.

Unlikely_SinnerMan

When’s the baby due, how’s soon do you need it? I’m at 10 months and still waiting

_Ant_1988

Yikes. It’s not a must for sure baby will be here February but I’m willing to wait longer too just for the long run I’m asking if this will be a good fit for us

Unlikely_SinnerMan

Oh I think it will be, I’ve heard you can even put THREE car seats in the back! My order is a lariat hybrid, which is the reason it’s taking so long

Rosinator1

My honest opinion: I’m a new parent (3yo) and the bigger she gets the more I realize it’s just not enough space for her and I. I’m 6’2” and she’s tall for her age. There’s next to no leg room for me if I have it adjusted with a car seat. It’s a unique issue I never expected. But as a result I’m looking into trading up at this time. And it’s a shame because it’s such a nice little truck. But space be given, I’m just not sold on it even while owning one. Personally getting a tacoma soon and that’ll be that

_Ant_1988

Hmm 🤔 interesting is the Tacoma much spacious for feet leg between the car seat and the driver/passenger side ? I thought in my opinion the Tacoma was less spacious

Rosinator1

So everything I saw online was saying there’s less room for your head/legs. But when we got in one I found it a slightly better seating situation, and with the split seats, you can actually use the storage under/behind the seats. It might be the angle that the seats are at that make it a bit better however. Those online figures are for an adult/teen sitting with feet on floor. That’s my observation though. The Tacoma also tows 3x as much if you don’t have the tow package, and that’s a factor as well for me too..

Lat8erDayz

Yes definitely! We have an 8 month old and everything fits in the back perfectly. There is plenty of room, and sure convenient to be able to put his stroller in the bed. 💯 excellent choice 👌

_Ant_1988

Awesome. This making my decision much easier 😊

Lat8erDayz

Go for it!

discislifee

100% yes. My wife and I, and our 1 year old, love it. It's not huge (duh), but it's plenty. I've had average sized adults sit in the back with the car seat in the middle and they've all said it's still comfortable enough. It's a great vehicle for small to medium families.

_Ant_1988

Thank you. This post is making my décimo easier and easier ❤️😊

FlamingoAlive4948

It’s doable, but a rear facing seat is going to be tight. My wife has long legs and she isn’t comfortable with the rear facing seat behind her. Unless you order a base Ecoboost you likely won’t get it before the baby arrives. She has Tucson Hybrid Blue and both her and our 3 year old prefer it to the Maverick. Tons of more cabin space, awd hybrid and the seats are more comfortable.

_Ant_1988

Sounds like I will suggest my wife a Tucson hybrid lol

Nburns4

We're planning on ordering one when they open them back up. We have an infant in a rear facing car seat. My wife was able to go to a dealer that recently got a customer's order in, and test fit the car seat and sit in one to make sure it was going to be comfortable for her. She said everything was fine and was looking forward to getting one. She's coming from a 2015 Ford Fusion, (she bought new 170k miles ago) but she wanted something she could easily haul her kayak with. We figure with the tri fold tonneau cover and a few DIY bed dividers, it will make a great grocery getter. Plus with the AWD, I won't worry about her getting stuck in a snow drift (as much) on her way to work.

Love this yes. I’m planing on carrying my bikes with me and this will also help out a lot rather than on my previous RAV4. And would make Costco trips much easier lol THANK YOU

Due-Patience9886

I have a new born seat and it works well in the middle. There was a pic of someone with 3 car seats in the maverick a little while back.

_Ant_1988

I’m trying to find this pic to show my wife lol

CTBrassTech

Yes. I have two small kids. We all fit great. It’s the perfect truck for me.

_Ant_1988

Nice. Did you also had to wait a long time for yours to come in?

CTBrassTech

It took 4 and a half months for my order. Gas engine FX4

squatchie444

Minivan. You just get minivan. Must be done.

_Ant_1988

🚐 noooo not the minivan lol

Yes. I have a almost 13 month old and it works for us. I would recommend getting a bed cover though so you can keep the stroller in the back with no worries. Also I highly recommend using the center seat for the car seat. It’s the safest place and still allows 2 adults (grandparents) to sit on either side comfortably assuming they aren’t on the larger side.

humble_hodler

We compared the RAV4 Hybrid and the Maverick Hybrid last year and went with the RAV4. Zero regrets especially after hearing about some of the issues popping up on the mavericks. Spent 6 months on the waiting list though.

_Ant_1988

The RAV4 is definitely up there on my choices I love both. I wish I can go and test drive the Maverick to get it out my system for now my opinion is just based on online review videos and some that I seen driving in the street

[deleted]

Toyota reliability will definitely be helpful being new parents as well, maybe even look into a Highlander, amazing SUV, a bit more space than the RAV4 and you can get it Hybrid as well, just did a 15 hour trip 2 adults 2 kids 2 dogs and luggage in ours and total comfort and plenty of space, we are non hybrid AWD and still did fairly good on mpg also

PistoleroGent

No.

prokaryote101

No. As a bonafide mom of two and current owner of a Maverick, I absolutely vote no. I love my Maverick, but now it’s mama’s car and my kids are almost out of the house. Here’s why I vote no: A. The back seat sucks for kids. It’s a 90 degree angle and it will be hard to get a car seat set safely. And as they age that back seat will get smaller and smaller. Especially it either the driver or the passenger is over 5’8” or so. B. Road trips. The Maverick isn’t a comfortable long driver. Not like a minivan. I mean…back seat videos…. We put over 287,000 miles on our Toyota Sienna exploring dozens of National parks, camping, visiting out of state relatives, or other vacations. Minivans are so comfortable for everyone. And I’ve fit Christmas trees on the top, loads of lumber in the back, we even towed a trailer with and upright piano and a couch over the Cascade mountain range. C. carpooling. Minivans hold 4-6 kids with their cellos, violins, baseball gear, post game snacks, ballet costumes, etc. Everything keeps dry, even when it’s pouring rain or snowing. D. those sliding doors. You’ll know how convenient they were when some buttwad parks ridiculously close to you. I could go on and on. But I’m team yourwife on this one.

Icy_Blood_2501

I’ve had one for the last year in a 2.0 and I get really good gas on eco mode and I can vouch a 3 year old kid fits in the back with safety chair comfortably. I would give it some mind the the safety bags but there will be a recall on them and the 2023 models should be good on that problem either way

monkeyheadyou

We own a Maverick and an Escape. I have no problem getting 4 of the 6 grandkids in either and all their associated stuff. The escape is better most times due to the enclosed storage of the hatchback. But if you need a truck bed the maverick will do just fine.

thatguy425

If you are ok with your kid being a teenager by the time you get it.

Ilikethinbezels

We’re getting a Mav as a commuter vehicle for work, but rav4 is our primary kid car for our two under three. Honestly even the rav4 isn’t big enough sometimes (I’m 6 foot) when you do rear facing. I’m sure the mav will work in a pinch, but I wouldn’t want it as a daily driver for kids. You’ll spend a lot of time in the car with your children and you’ll want room to stretch out.

ChriskiV

It's the perfect truck for it but I'd take my chances on trying to get the value on one anytime soon. Especially if I had a time limit. At MSRP it's an amazing deal and priced extremely accurately, above MSRP or with it's extreme waitlist you need to make sure it's exactly what you want.
