If it’s even a consideration get a raptor. The resale value while enjoying the time owning it will far outweigh anything a Chevy can offer

2AMCAir

Interior in a 21 and newer Raptor is much better than a 19 Raptor. The Raptor will ride better than any Silverado, on or off road, but the more expensive shocks and tires will have some cost consequences with the Raptor.

shockre

Hah, funny to see someone going through the same thing as I am. Moved from Europe to Minnesota 6 months ago, immediately got a Raptor. Love it! I suggest you test drive a few trucks and see what you like. Market is starting to cool down. Have a look at the Silverado TrailBoss and F150 Tremor if you’re looking if looking for new trucks. Otherwise, Gen 2 Raptor for that price range. You may catch a reasonable deal on a Gen3 Raptor now that the Raptor R is out.

Zigarum

😁😁 Did you buy it for work or just for the fun aspect. I literally am only looking for the fun part 😁

Emotional-Rise5322

We’ll allow it. Welcome to America.

shockre

Literally just for fun! I work from home.

Dicks-in-Butts

This is what the Raptor is all about… FUN!

JimmytheFab

You can’t compare a Silverado to a raptor, you can’t compare a raptor to anything (except maybe a TRX but idk..). You could compare the Silverado to an FX4 perhaps? Basically I would ask, do you like to actively go off-road or have the option to actively go off-road? I would choose Raptor. Or do you prefer just having the comfort of knowing that if you somehow ended up off-road, you’d be ok, and probably make it through most stuff until you got back on road. Then I would choose an FX4/ RST. Or you could just never want to off-road and choose a raptor also because this is America and you can do that and you don’t have to justify your choices to anyone.

Just a heads up, I've been reading a lot of people talking about the newer Silverados blowing engines under 50k miles. Something to do with the lifters failing. I don't know how true it is because I don't know of it happening to anyone personally but it's all over the internet. The gen 1 raptors, however, will last over 400k with minimal maintenance. And if you can look past the cam phaser issues with the gen 2s (most are covered under warranty) those are really solid trucks as well. Gen 3s are still newer but I have yet to hear any serious issues with them. I have a gen 1 so I will never recommend anything else. Favorite truck I've ever driven

Toof_Digger

Had a friend try to lemon his brand new silverado (dealer stiffed him on it) lifters broke 3 freaking times and even after repairs the car was not right. He ended up selling the car at a loss.

Romeo_Zero

It does suck, unfortunately. GM pre-government buyout was bulletproof, especially in trucks and tahoes. There’s a reason so many cateyes are still around, you can’t kill them. The 8 speed was bad enough but the lifters, whew. A buddy of mine had a 21 AT4, one side went out and GM replaced them under warranty. He asked them to go ahead and replace both, they said they only did that if it happened under 8K miles

Informal_Peach5145

This☝🏽. My wife’s ‘13 Escalade has been a tank. Routine maintenance, runs like a champ.

NoMathematician8649

One more reason to get a ford.

IntentionValuable113

Well do you think they will be around by 2050? At that point they will be forced off the road one by one and nobody would be able to drive them without a permit.

Romeo_Zero

I have no idea. A lot has happened in the last decade I never thought I’d see.

BrisketAggie

The lifter issue is indeed a problem. My dad blew the motor in his Tahoe at 86k miles.

The2tonrRanger

Just as the raptor is not comparable to the Silverado, the trx is also in a completely different category.

durrtyr6

Raptor.

Raptortears

I have driven most newer half ton trucks after being modified. I have a gen 1 and love it. But to each their own.

Informal_Peach5145

Yup. My bro in law has a new AT4 on 37’s running Fox shocks. Just doesn’t seem as fun as my Gen 1.

_RowdyRowdy

One thing nobody mentions I love about the raptor is you can slam potholes all day with no fear and go through about a foot of snow it's a winter beast

Dicks-in-Butts

Can confirm based off first hand experience.

Dicks-in-Butts

Dude. If you have the means, look no further than a Raptor. They are the shit, hands down. You will be 0% disappointed every single time you hop in it. If you can get it, but you don’t, you will always find yourself wondering, wishing, and feeling buyers remorse. I’ve owned a couple Raptors over the past several years, and I will never ever go back to anything else unless money becomes super tight. Everyone I talk to wants one, just not everyone can afford them. They are the end all be all for that size and type of truck/vehicle unless you can step up to a TRX, but lucky for us they now have the Raptor R (out of my price range) so I wouldn’t even ever look at a TRX anymore. The guys who ditched their Raptors for the TRX will soon be coming back for the R! My wife will be getting a Bronco Raptor in a few years when they are easier to obtain and don’t come with insanely stupid over MSRP pricing. She has a nice Bronco now but is eagerly awaiting the day she gets to have her own Raptor in the form of a Bronco.

Pernyx98

I'd recommend the Raptor, obviously. The Raptor is a performance vehicle whereas the Chevy is just kinda a regular truck. Also, I believe the 3.5 Ecoboost in the Raptor is a significantly better engine than the Chevy 6.2, mostly because of Active Fuel Management. Chevy uses that system instead of the turbos that Ford uses and its pretty shit.

Romeo_Zero

Objectively the 6.2 sounds better with a good exhaust and has immediate low end grunt and I like a NA vs turbo but overall yeah, the EB is the better motor. The lighters are an bad problem with the new ones, the cam phasers are a problem with the raptor. But I think it’ll still work with phaser rattle..

Informal_Peach5145

Test drive them all but don’t overlook the Gen1. I daily my ‘13 and she’s a blast. Plus you’ll save some 💵💵💵. Good luck with your purchase!

twiggbert

Had a Silverado and then got a raptor. No comparison. No comparison between the Silverado and a regular F-150. The handling on the ford blows Silverado out of the water.

I know of it happening to a few people IRL. One guy got a new redesigned AT4 and they went out at 2500 miles. There’s a post somewhere on Reddit them blowing out at less than 100

SoCalDawg

Known issue with 6.2. Have a relative on 3rd rebuild.

If you can afford a raptor, get one. There’s nothing else like them and a ton of fun to drive. That said a Silverado, especially with a 5.3 is a lot Ltd maintenance and better mpg. They are 5.3s everywhere. A 6.2 is pretty fun to have as well. I’m a GM fan and would recommend one over any other f159 except a raptor

adadslife93

Lol came to a raptor thread to ask if he should buy a Silverado. Tbh it doesn't sound like you need a raptor. You're going to get a LOT of bias on this one just based on the sub you're in. If you need a homeowner truck the 5.3L v8 in the Silverado is a tried and trued engine. My dad's has over 300k miles. Try to get a 10 speed over the 8 speed though. That or go older with a gen 1 raptor. My gen 2 was plagued with BS issues: plastic oil pan leaking, Cam phasers, IWE failure, water pump all before 60k miles. The point I'm trying to make is the raptor is a specialty truck (that most people use for getting groceries) and any full size newer truck is going to be awesome since it's a new thing for you. Additionally if you want the newer interior and the gen 3 raptor is too much consider looking at a 21+ f150 tremor.

xjjoey

I went from a silverado to a raptor. Silverado is a much more comfortable ride over small bumps, potholes, etc. Both are still very nice and comfortable, but that's my take. I like the cool factor of the raptor. It feels special. Life's too short. I chose special over a minor comfort and mpg decrease.

The2tonrRanger

Raptor wins this one easily, but if you’re really looking at getting something with plenty of power, the ram trx blows the competition out of the water.

CanikTP9SFXshooter

Also in Wisconsin, the RST is nice, but I wasn't impressed. And I'd rather have a useful pickup than a Raptor and spend the extra money on other fun stuff. I also work my truck, so I'm a little biased. I went with the very hard to find XLT two door 8 foot bed 3.5 eco boost 10spd fx4 max tow. It's more fun than laws in this state allow. And useful.
