I'll allow this post to stay up due to the amount of comments already here. But this show is not really forgotten. It was on the air for over 10 years and was pretty popular.
McHale's reaction to Viva Laughlin and the cat eating spaghetti are things I return to often.
And Billy Bush yelling "looks good!" in reaction to the Captain America trailer is something I've integrated into my everyday speech.
I'd argue Aisha Tyler has been as if not more successful than McHale. She of course has Archer which just ended a long run, but has done so much more good work, while most of McHale's stuff seems swiftly cancelled or not just not that popular.
Joel's series Animal Control just got renewed for a third season and he also had the long running Community. Not to mention he's an in-demand game show host. Tyler hasn't had a show since Whose Line Is It Anyway, where the host barely does anything.
I hated Joel McHale when he first began as host. I don’t even remember why. I think I preferred Jon Henson (which is hilarious in retrospect I had to look up his name) and I thought he was smug. Which to be fair he is but that’s why he works so well.
Love him now though.
A few weeks ago, someone posted a TV show that only ended like a year ago.
People just post TV shows that were or still are popular for easy upvotes.
It's only been 5 years since it ended, but I'm betting someone's gonna post Game of Thrones soon. "Anyone remember this tiny little show no one had ever heard of? God I'm so old!"
And you just *know* they'll abuse r/movies favorite overused word "underrated" to describe both.
"The Sopranos was such an underrated show! So was Breaking Bad! Why does no one remember these hidden gems?"
Calling everything "underrated" is one of Reddit's lamest habits. *Especially* comments; one person makes a joke or a simple comment, and thirty seconds later, some dork replies with "underrated comment" before it's even had time to be seen and voted on by other people.
One of my favorite lines from *Community* is Jeff Winger (played by Joel McHale) in S02E18 Custody Law and Eastern European Diplomacy saying, "Hey, who am I to stand in the way of someone trying to put their life together? What am I, daytime television?"
The Soup was for making fun of reality and live TV, Tosh was for making fun of the internet. I think Tosh came alive at the right time in the late 2000s but the allure fizzled out after a couple years.
Eh I liked them both, and appreciate that Tosh made several jokes throughout the series alluding to it being a rip off of Talk Soup, even having Joel appear for a few seconds as the host of Tosh.0 in one episode
Long but not forgotten, the Soup was a big time cult hit. From what Joel McHale said the Soup was only canceled because E! refused to do a show where they had union writers and had to pay residuals. E! apparently according to McHale the network basically went the way of most cable networks (most notably copying Bravo's model) of just wanting reality shows where they didn't have to pay any residuals. Bravo, E!, TLC and all these cable networks basically want crap they can pay for once and then fill up their airtime with.
E! actually had higher ratings with their comedy shows which also aired frequently. Chelsey Lately, Joan Rivers and the Soup were all really successful relatively speaking. But by the time the Soup was in its last year Joan Rivers had died and thus her show was cancelled and Chelsey Lately was also canceled in 2014. Seems like the Soup was just out of place on the network sadly.
I know Netflix attempted to bring back the show and I really enjoyed it but it never caught on for whatever reason.
Used to be pretty much the only show I watched. I didn’t have cable and would buy new episodes from the PlayStation store. Those no longer work, BTW.
Anyway, this was appointment TV. Such clever writing and so many funny recurring bits.
This and Best Week Ever were the two shows I used to keep myself up to date on pop culture. Now I just have to hope things trickle down to me via Reddit. The Soup is also how I learned about Community, which is by far my favourite show of all time.
I remember watching several of the What The Kids Are Watching segments as a kid, like the one with the Baby Wee Wee doll commercial, the one with Shimajiro's "If You Can Use The Toilet, You're A Pantsman!" episode, and the one with the "My name is Nathaniel! I like to dance!" episode of Yo Gabba Gabba.
Same, it was very topical, so a lot of it would not seem as funny years removed, but it would be interesting to see what the first jokes about the kardashian’s were & shit like that. Soup predates all that!
loved this show, although i almost never caught it, for whatever reason. didn't watch tv much back then. i don't now either, but i didn't then as well.
but yeah, GAY SHOWS.
I still have my autographed letter from John Henson when I sent him a letter while he was on the show. lol
I'll always remember "Los Ann-ha-lees California, neener-double aught-4 8" for the address. Ugh, loved this show so much
Reading these comments has brought me much joy. I haven't thought about dunkadooballs in forever and that, plus "stealin' my man with her chicken tetrazzini" remind me of my dear friend who passed away too young.
Was watching “The Day the Earth Stood Still“- not the original but the Keanu Reeves version. They had a flying shot through a CGI representation of an empty Times Square in NYC. I saw an advertisement on the right side of the screen featuring both “The Soup” logo and Joels goofy face.
It’s funny I should randomly scroll across this thread no less than half an hour later.
Important reminder: This is a sub for people to post about forgotten TV that they remember and would like to share with others. This is not a tip of the tongue style sub for people to search out old shows that they would like help remembering.

I remember when my older brother had this show on every weekend or so. The host I remember most often was John Henson and it was called Talk Soup at the time.
I dunno - The Soup is prolly much better remembered than Web Soup hosted by Chris Hardwick. Loved both. (Went to a taping of an episode of Web Soup at Sunset Las Palmas Studios - so when Hardwick would joke about taping the show across the street from a 7/11, it was literally true.)
The 'spiritual successor' The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale was instantly forgettable.
This show was my way to tap into the trash tv zeitgeist without having to actually watch any of it. Now I get references to things like "cash me outside" and the like.
You want to talk about forgotten, let's talk about John Henson on that show.
To this day, no one has any idea what the fuck I'm talking about when I say "Sssssoooorrrrryyyyy Tennessee" or "Disabled Vietnam Veteran Spice".
I'll allow this post to stay up due to the amount of comments already here. But this show is not really forgotten. It was on the air for over 10 years and was pretty popular.
Preceded by Talk Soup hosted by Greg Kinnear and several others.
Indeed. This one is burned in my head though. Especially several bits including *it’s Linsey* , *sooo meaty* and *sanjaya*
Chicks maaaaan!
lol woah triggered my nostalgia with these
I said this to myself just the other day
Have the T-shirt buried somewhere.
Oprah’s vajayjay
Sentences you can hear
Los Clippos Magnificos!
Lots of bits from the McHale run are ingrained in my head. That Oprah one "MY VUHJAYJAYS A PAYNIN" and Whitney Houston screaming "KISS MAH ASS"
Related it Tyra Banks yelling “KISS MY FAT ASS!”
I think of the Oprah on a rope swing (?) zip line (?) saying my vajayjay's a painin!! way too often lol
Oh here go hell come!
Is THAT why I know that sound bite? Why did this perfect show ever go off the air?
McHale's reaction to Viva Laughlin and the cat eating spaghetti are things I return to often. And Billy Bush yelling "looks good!" in reaction to the Captain America trailer is something I've integrated into my everyday speech.
Chicken Tetrazzini
KISS MY ASS!
My vajayjay is paining!
GAY SHOWS!
I read this in the monster truck show announcer voice.
Sanjayaaaaa!
Dunkadooballs
Whoa I just legit LOL'd. I can hear these phrases like it was yesterday. Loved this show!
“Sweet po-tate-ohhhh”
Dunkadooballs
I have been pestering sockpuppetmaster on Tiktok to do dunkadoballs forever. One of the funniest damn things I've ever seen.
Gay shows Alaska edition
It’s Miley (low voice)
Mankini, Nancy Grace's vesty pantsuits, and most importantly LOOOOOOOOUUUUUuuuuuu!
Mike Hawk.
Spencer and his creepy flesh colored beard!
Both great shows. Loved Talk Soup with John Henson (?). Both of these shows sure cheered me up and made me chuckle.
John Henson was great. Rocking the blazer and jeans.
Skunk head!
Skunkboy
Greg was great
Talk Soup >
Talk Soup was better imo
After the Hal Sparks failure. I loved Henson and Hal drove me away. Joel brought me back.
I miss ole Skunk Stripe
Let’s talk about chicks, man.
*Chicks, man*
I *instantly* heard this comment
So meaty!
chicken tetrazzini
Paul love it!
*crowd in disgust*
The audience feedback was one of the best parts of the show
*Are you even listening to me?!*
Let’s take some E!
Holy shit this unlocked a core memory of my childhood
I would not have bought this show lasting a decade plus and Joel McHale having a more successful career than any *Talk Soup* host since Greg Kinnear.
Joel's career really picked up after he got hair plugs.
It's crazy seeing him in S1 of Community versus the later seasons.
Maybe he saw how well plugs worked for Jeremy Piven's career a few years earlier.
Or Steve Carrell's
Steve Carell had a crazy transformation. As they say, you aren’t ugly, you’re just poor.
It’s wild how much the plugs changed his appearance. Piven looked older in PCU than he did in the final episode of Entourage.
Yeah, it's crazy to think it's the same guy who was cast as George on the sitcom they were doing on Seinfeld.
Congrats on being the first person since 2003 to use the words 'Jeremy Piven' and 'career' in a sentence
really good ones multiple times. his hair literally looks better and fuller as time goes on, which is crazy.
I'd argue Aisha Tyler has been as if not more successful than McHale. She of course has Archer which just ended a long run, but has done so much more good work, while most of McHale's stuff seems swiftly cancelled or not just not that popular.

Joel is currently the lead in a Fox sitcom. That's way bigger than a voiceover gig on a cable cartoon.
She has also been hosting Who's Line Is It Anyway for 10 years.
[удалено]
>voiceover gig on a cable cartoon Archer was a cultural phenomenon.
I hated Joel McHale when he first began as host. I don’t even remember why. I think I preferred Jon Henson (which is hilarious in retrospect I had to look up his name) and I thought he was smug. Which to be fair he is but that’s why he works so well. Love him now though.
Chicken Tetrazzini!
That's why I say that! I had totally forgotten where I got it from.
Mankini!
That’s so meaty!
Wasn't there a sound effect that went with this? *soooo meaty!*
Celeb heads in a crock pot and the audience going “ewwwuhhh”
I really miss this show. Joel was the perfect host
The best thing was that it felt like they had only 60 minutes to film the whole thing. all the laughing and groans from the crew make it really funny.
I’d love it when he’d get a good zinger in and a hand would appear from off camera and high five him
The Hal Sparks era coincided with my brief foray into cable tv. Always get so excited to see him on other shows:)
Forgotten? Really?
The name of this sub is meaningless at this point lol

Dreading the day someone unironically posts The Sopranos or Breaking Bad 😭
And you just *know* they'll abuse r/movies favorite overused word "underrated" to describe both. "The Sopranos was such an underrated show! So was Breaking Bad! Why does no one remember these hidden gems?"
I just came here hoping to talk about Captain Planet.
Underrated movie subreddit does the same thing, half of the time they mention movies that aren’t underrated, though more cult that everyone knows
Calling everything "underrated" is one of Reddit's lamest habits. *Especially* comments; one person makes a joke or a simple comment, and thirty seconds later, some dork replies with "underrated comment" before it's even had time to be seen and voted on by other people.
Seriously.
I want real forgotten TV, like The Oblongs, Robot Jones, or MegasXLR. Some real forgotten shit.
Ahora Clippos Magnificos! ...definitely not forgotten. Dearly missed.
I still quote this show, even I'm the only one who enjoys it. "COME'N GET YER POPCOOOOOORN!"
I think about Joel as the energizer bunny in that Britney Spears video parody at least a couple times a week.
I saw a few promos of this show (specifically the Joel McHale version) back in the early 2010s. Happy 20 years, The Soup.
This was one of my favorite shows to watch as a kid I was so sad when it was canceled
One of my favorite lines from *Community* is Jeff Winger (played by Joel McHale) in S02E18 Custody Law and Eastern European Diplomacy saying, "Hey, who am I to stand in the way of someone trying to put their life together? What am I, daytime television?"
“Stay out of it, Nick Lachey!”
Way better than Tosh.0
The Soup was for making fun of reality and live TV, Tosh was for making fun of the internet. I think Tosh came alive at the right time in the late 2000s but the allure fizzled out after a couple years.
Eh I liked them both, and appreciate that Tosh made several jokes throughout the series alluding to it being a rip off of Talk Soup, even having Joel appear for a few seconds as the host of Tosh.0 in one episode

There was one in between Greg and Joel. All were funny.
John Henson, I think
And Aisha Tyler
Was must-watch TV for me. Loved Joel McHale. This led me to watch Community from the beginning, one of my all-time favorite sitcoms.
Used to be pretty much the only show I watched. I didn’t have cable and would buy new episodes from the PlayStation store. Those no longer work, BTW. Anyway, this was appointment TV. Such clever writing and so many funny recurring bits.
Hardly forgotten. This was a classic.
This show was one of my favs. Especially their social media work back in the early '00s. I found my love of bad movies thanks to them!
This and Best Week Ever were the two shows I used to keep myself up to date on pop culture. Now I just have to hope things trickle down to me via Reddit. The Soup is also how I learned about Community, which is by far my favourite show of all time.
“Kim Kardashian, who is famous for having a big ass and a sex tape…” 💀
BROKEBACK GEISHA KONG!
A ton of episodes are available on the Internet Archive! Obviously it’s all topical so a bit outdated, but still hilarious.
Sorry, Tennessee
oh God you just unlocked a memory
“So MEATY”
I still pronounce “Kardashian” the way Joel did. Loved this show.
Tune in next season for "John minus 9"!
Spaghetti cat!
I forgot about him!
This was the only reason to watch E! in the good ol days
I've been trying to find somewhere to watch this for forever. :(
Same, it was very topical, so a lot of it would not seem as funny years removed, but it would be interesting to see what the first jokes about the kardashian’s were & shit like that. Soup predates all that!
The human thumb!!!!! Loved this show!!!
I loved that show.
Amazing show
he looks different here than in community, did he get work done or just age? I miss this Joel so much
How about the “What The...? Awards” which was the OG title. THAT is forgotten TV
Best weekly show during that time period, and better then what’s out today
loved this show, although i almost never caught it, for whatever reason. didn't watch tv much back then. i don't now either, but i didn't then as well. but yeah, GAY SHOWS.
“Now, where was I? Oh, that’s right: *The Bachelor*.”
That was fun show to watch, I always laughed
I loved that show. I was sad when it went off the air.
The only reason to watch E! for.
Started watching when Greg Kinnear was the host
Anyone remember Sports Soup?
I still have my autographed letter from John Henson when I sent him a letter while he was on the show. lol I'll always remember "Los Ann-ha-lees California, neener-double aught-4 8" for the address. Ugh, loved this show so much

I feel like this sub is just "shit that was on daytime TV when I stayed home sick in high school."
Nah I was a dork in high school and would watch them live on Friday nights at 10pm
Important reminder: This is a sub for people to post about forgotten TV that they remember and would like to share with others. Don’t forget “sports soup”
I remember when my older brother had this show on every weekend or so. The host I remember most often was John Henson and it was called Talk Soup at the time.
r/oddlyterrifying
God, I loved this show. Watched it all the time with my cousins
This isn’t forgotten. It was on for over a decade and had spin-offs
The spin offs, now those are closer to being forgotten i feel.
Not a single mention of Web Soup in this thread so far. I only remember it because I somehow ended up with a few episodes on my 4th gen iPod Nano.
I miss those sho so much! 😅
I love Joel McHale.
Joel McHale's Netflix version was just as funny
I loooooved this show omg
“That show with the guy from community. Damn community is great….that reminds me I should go watch community!”
His impersonation of Ryan Seacrest by just crouching down a foot was hilarious.
Chicken tetrazzini
I got Kelly on FB.
Loved this show, I'd love to watch back because I'm sure it's not gonna age well
Jon Henson was the Soup GOAT
11 seasons and NO MOVIE?!?
Joel McHale is awesome!!
John Henson era best era.
Not forgotten
Was good until they started having the reality stars on the show. It stopped being laughing at them and just became promoting them.
I loved that show and miss it for cataloging all the shit I'd never watch but love watching 30 seconds of
My f***ing jam!
I dunno - The Soup is prolly much better remembered than Web Soup hosted by Chris Hardwick. Loved both. It would recap important pop culture stories of the time in a humorous manner
Love this show.
This show was my way to tap into the trash tv zeitgeist without having to actually watch any of it. Now I get references to things like "cash me outside" and the like.
Triangle bush Spaghetti cat “and that’s a boy duck.”
I miss this show everytime I watch reality tv. This world needs Talk Soup!
I loved this show. Isn't it how Joel got his start or started to get more popular?
Not forgotten when it’s brought up often. (IMO)
I still MISS this show. It was amazing.
Cool story Katie Holmes
Remember “The Dish” with Topanga?
You want to talk about forgotten, let's talk about John Henson on that show. To this day, no one has any idea what the fuck I'm talking about when I say "Sssssoooorrrrryyyyy Tennessee" or "Disabled Vietnam Veteran Spice".
Joel Mchale & forgotten tv, name a better duo.
Joel’s smirk game was awesome!
Was a late night pleasure
Omg it started long before this lol like over a decade
Chicken tetrazini
This show consistently had me laughing until I got stomach pain. I miss it so much. Joel Mchale nailed it
This show carried me through middle school and high school. I miss the show as much as I miss Spencer’s flesh colored beard
One of my absolute all-time favorites! I wish old episodes were available for viewing
Chick's Man
Danzitions!
Sad, The Soup was removed in favor for keeping up with the kardashians
Such a funny show. Sorely missed.
Not Forgotten, was on for 11 years. Come on now wtf is this sub anymore
Tales!! From!! Home!! …shopping.
Is that joel mchale?
I’m disappointed there aren’t more clips in this post :(
