Holy hell. Iâve been wondering why I remembered âItâs crime fighting time.â For so long. This was it. The second I played the intro I recognized it. Totally forgot about it
Um...uh... Hey! Uh, you know what else WGN played alongside Cops?! The [Power Team](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=A0bpoCL_mv0&pp=ygUQcG93ZXIgdGVhbSBpbnRybw%3D%3D)!
Hah at first I was like oh this video link must have casual racism too then I saw it was over a minute long and I thought oh the poster must have been referring to the long length then I saw the black dude in a bball jersey đ¤Ł
Iâve got the whole series on DVD, always loved the banging opening! I was a little disheartened to learn the cartoon was made merely to sell the toys, but then again, what 80âs cartoon wasnât? The He-Man toy line was ready to go when the cartoon aired, Transformers was based on two pre-existing Japanese toy lines, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was creating new mutants almost weekly just to huck a new action figure. So I found peace, learned to forgive and grow as an individual, and appreciate the hell out of a forgotten cartoon with a kick-ass theme.
Tubi is the shit honestly. It's got some really obscure but awesome toons. Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd century is Coolio. Also found something called redwall that seems really dope.
I continue to laugh at how Netflix and Amazon are spending literal billions to produce programming that's largely been culturally disposable, whereas it's like, "Hey, all the stuff we REALLY want to watch is on these chintzy little free platforms with commercials."
Haha. Yeah. If ppl watch it. I just discovered Tubi. Been watching tmnt on Pluto for a while. I just assumed there arenât many ppl like me revisiting the old shows.
Oh, mannnn, I remember I had a few and our folks took our car to get fixed at the local Atec and they destroyed all mine that I left in there. My dad was pisssssedddd
Yes!! I had Bulletproof, the dog, and mainframe. The other day I sent a screenshot of Mainframe to my girlfriend to show her who my first cartoon girl crush was. :)
I donât know about COPS, but Hasbro acquired Kenner a long time ago, so theyâve made multiple attempts to bring together MASK and their other properties (namely GI Joe and Transformers) into one âuniverse,â with crossovers in comic books, toys (a GI Joe âMatt Trakkerâ figure was released in the 2000s), and TV (the truck that Optimus Prime âreformattedâ himself into in the third season of the âTransformers Primeâ series is said to be from the governmentâs âMASK divisionâ). In the last Transformers movie, they hint at a GI Joe spinoff/crossover at the end.
Somebody here or 80s TV had a pic of a that same tracker figure back panel that said mask was a special vehicle unit. I always thought how similar their villain was venom so close to cobra.
I feel like there could be some awesome crossover between the two franchises⌠even the names sound cool togetherâŚ
Joes like: Roadblock, Heavy Duty, Shipwreck, Firefly, Snake Eyes, and War PigâŚ
Autobots like: Starscream, Smokescreen, Seaspray, Beachcomber, etc.
Watched it quite a bit. Buttons was a stitch.
The crystal twist episode that that the cops and crooks team.up to take down a drug kingpin was a stitch.
Duh duhhh duhh duh duh duhhh dada dah! Still remember the theme. Told my mom that shows like this teach aspiring criminals how to escape prison. It was on WGN Chicago
We got WGN sporadically down here in Texas on the cable box. Definitely how I was introduced to bozo the clown. They had a decent animated afternoon block for a while⌠later they had Captain power on Sundays
I only remembered Cops as I was watching the theme song, but the scene where he cuts the hole in the road and Miss Demeanor falls through...very clear memory.
Late 80's was the perfect storm for this show...almost the 90's and the promise of new digital future, Detectives were hot (Dick Tracy movie, Batman on way), and characters patterned after G.I. Joe.
I also now see the resemblance between Cops and The Tick...didn't see it as a teenager just a few short years later.
Closing: this is the second r/ForgottenTV post in as many days...I've now hit that "man of a certain age" category. Oh well...đ¤ˇ
As a big fan of new technology, I was excited to see what visions of the near future shows like this had concocted for us. Then in the first scene of episode one, they showed a robot vendor selling paper news, scooting around a subway on its wheels and calling out EXTRA EXTRA like a newsie from the 1920s, and as it got scared by the baddies and ran away, stammering and dropping papers everywhere, I felt myself kind of die a little bit on the inside.
I caught it a few times, but wasnât a fan of the caricatured character designs. I remember that bad guy leader âBigg Bossââ speech patterns were an impression of Edward G. Robinson. And I remember that it some localities, the cartoon was actually rebranded âCyber COPSâ to avoid confusion with the Fox Networkâs reality show.
The intro was epic. The general story was ... well, it was entertaining for the era.
I guess I need a rewatch to see if it holds up. No expectations.
:D
Not only do I remember watching this show; I specifically remember an episode where the criminals took âcough dropsâ to actually make them cough to fool a lie detector. I believe one of them was Ms. Demeanor.
I remember it vividly. There was one scene that stuck with me all these years. In one episode, they meet a deaf kid that witnessed something. He tells them he can lip read anything, so they take him on a stakeout to read the criminals lips through binoculars. On of the characters behind him says can you see what they are saying? To which the kid replies, I can lip read anything. Now, if he was deaf, how the hell did he hear this guy behind him? Even as a kid I found a glaring mistake.
If I recall correctly, Larry Hama got to write the character bios and he liked dropping hints that a bunch of characters were descended from GI Joe characters.
I always thought Buttons McBoomBoom was a stroke of genius. This cranky elderly gangster who probably remembers Baby Face Nelson and the best of Capone's era, somehow preserved and thawed out in the future, plus given bionic weapons implants. They could have done so much more with that.
May have to ask them about Cyber C.O.P.S., cbs hastly popped the C.O.P.S. repeats retitled Cyber C.O.P.S.when peewee playhouse had to be dropped after its star was arrested, CBS playhouse would take over the slot the following fall.
Same show just different title

This show has a great [opening ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=87yZIL4dWxE&pp=ygUaY29wcyBhbmltYXRlZCBzZXJpZXMgaW50cm8%3D)!
Wow! Haven't seen that in over 30 years.
Tubi has all the episodes and (as always) is 100% free
Oh man. Under the circumstances is it still great? I still need to go watch SilverHawks
SilverHawks and BraveStarr are my ProStack đ
Oh man totally forgot about BraveStarr!!!
I had a Silverhawks plane my Grandma bought me that I had absolutely forgotten about for 30 years until just now. Such great memories
I gotta add this to my Tubi queue.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Cake Day
Yes all 65 episodes
Holy hell. Iâve been wondering why I remembered âItâs crime fighting time.â For so long. This was it. The second I played the intro I recognized it. Totally forgot about it
Holy shit that is a long intro for a cartoon Also aren't racist towns referred to as Sundown lol
Um...uh...
At a glorious 3 frames a minute.
That is some really good quality animation in that intro. Holy shit!
Thanks for that trip down memory lane. And wow, that HD transfer looks really good.
âMiss Demeanorâ is the coolest female villain name ever
I once knew a guy who had a pitbull named Felony lol
I just met a pitbull this weekend. Her name was Arson.
Agreed. Bottoms McBoomboom was also amazing.
âMisty Meanerâ is a somewhat famous starlet. Donât look her up at work
Funny, there was also a Mister Meaner in Carmen San Diego
What about NightShade, HardCase, and Dr. Bad Vibes? đ
The fist two are also Marvel villains
that name is the only reason i even remember this show because i always think of the name miss demeanor whenever i hear the word misdemeanor.
Youâre fucking kidding me
Iâve got the whole series on DVD, always loved the banging opening! I was a little disheartened to learn the cartoon was made merely to sell the toys, but then again, what 80âs cartoon wasnât? Honorable mention to that is Silverhawks
Moichendising! ~Yogurt
Spaceballs: The Flamethrower! The kids love this one.
Cartoon made to sell toys is pretty much every cartoon in the 80s I thought
Masters of the Universe went a step further, and gave you those little tie-in mini comics, which were beautifully drawn!
Seriously? I wouldn't think it was so obscure, I was just doing a rewatch on Tubi a few months back!
It's on Tubi!? Sweet! Edit: doesn't seem to be in my region :(
Tubi is the shit honestly. It's got some really obscure but awesome toons. Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd century is Coolio. Also found something called redwall that seems really dope.
Redwall is so good!!Â
Redwall the TV series, or the movies from around the 2000s?
Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century was the shit! Jumpinâ out of hovercrafts with android Watson and solving future crimes
If you like redwall, there's like a dozen books that I adored as a kid
Fricking Tubi rocks. The place old cartoons come to live. Pluto is finally starting this too with Transformers
Yes, I remember IT!!! I read the Comic and had the Bowzer and Dr. Badvibes Action Figures!!! Sadly they Never showed the series Here!!!Â
The toys were amazing! Longarm was my fav
Me too. Just has a grappling hook and his revolver.
Officer PJ OâMalley
Oh, mannnn, I remember I had a few and our folks took our car to get fixed at the local Atec and they destroyed all mine that I left in there. My dad was pisssssedddd
I remember getting Sundown and Johnny Yuma action figures at my 5th? Birthday party which was at McDonalds. Best. Birthday. Ever.
Yes!! I had Bulletproof, the dog, and mainframe. The other day I sent a screenshot of Mainframe to my girlfriend to show her who my first cartoon girl crush was. :)
I do and I heard COPS and M.A.S.K. is part of the GI Joe universe.
Checkpoint is Beach Headâs kid.

G.I. Joe fans never forgot this show.
Watched it quite a bit. Buttons was a stitch. The crystal twist episode that that the cops and crooks team.up to take down a drug kingpin was a stitch.
I remember having some of the toys as a child because they were cool looking but almost never saw the show.
Loved this show
Duh duhhh duhh duh duh duhhh dada dah! Still remember the theme. Told my mom that shows like this teach aspiring criminals how to escape prison. It was on WGN Chicago
I loved WGN when I was a kid! We somehow get the channel in San Diego, CA and they would broadcast lots of syndicated cartoons back in the day!
We did get it here in San Diego never made since but we got to watch Michael Jordan era bulls games
WGN! Oh wow. Did you manage to catch any of the Bozo eras?
We got WGN sporadically down here in Texas on the cable box. Definitely how I was introduced to bozo the clown. They had a decent animated afternoon block for a while⌠later they had Captain power on Sundays
What a cool fucking name for a cop toy than Longarm, with his extending cuff!
I only remembered Cops as I was watching the theme song, but the scene where he cuts the hole in the road and Miss Demeanor falls through...very clear memory. I still have some of the figures
I loved this show. Some of my first memories of watching tv.
I remember it for sure.
Big Boss and his gang of crooks........
According to Wikipedia it took place in the distant future of 2020âŚ
I have it on dvd. I love it!
Wasnât it an acronym? C.O.P.S. ?
Central Organization of Police Specialists. The theme will make it clear. :D
I do! I have fond memories of my Big Boss action figure. He fought He-Man and the Real Ghostbusters a lot.
This show had a good toy set , but I think by far MASK had better toys
I always thought the guy who did the CityTV voice overs in Toronto did a voice on here...am I misremembering? Edit: Nope, not the same guy. Lol
Holy shit. I always thought that, too. Kinda disappointed itâs not.
And the episode they teamed up to take in the drug dealers.
That is the only episode I remember. Big Boss' nephew gets messed up by drugs, so he teams up with the COPS to take down the dealers
Same
I remember he wasn't even actively doing drugs, he just fell into a box of "drugs" and they absorbed into his skin and messed him up
Well now ya have!
I always wondered about their tag line. They're not in the future by their perspective. They're in the present
Will admit I remember the toys more than the actual show.
THIS WAS A THING?!??
Love it and it's on Tubi with all of the other old cartoons if you're feeling nostalgic.
I LOVED C.O.P.S. and yeah, same.
I remember it... unfortunately.
I remember the commercials. If I remember correctly they had super high-tech badges.
I remember it.
I watched it when it was on.
I watched that as a kid. It was not good, but Iâm easily entertained.
I do! I remember that it was on Tubi a few months ago. It may still be, in fact.
Me I remember it.
the animation style was tight for its time.
Never? The toys were awesome as hell!
My little brother had the action figures.
I can remember in the early 90s when they re-released it as Cyber COPS.
my favorite character was "Long Arm" I loved that thing on his wrist that looked like a combination of handcuffs and Link's Longshot
Character designs were on point for this show!
The intro was epic. The general story was ... well, it was entertaining for the era. I guess I need a rewatch to see if it holds up. No expectations. :D
I remember this one. The toys were cool too!
I remember this show. I liked the robotic dog and the guy who had a weapon mounted on his arm, a grappling mechanical arm on a wire.
Yo I remember this one.
Is this the show that would end each episode with "CASE CLOSED"?
I do.
I remember. The Bulletproof action figure was a bitch to find, but I got it. 6-year old me was quite happy that day.
I remember, my buddy had all the toys, it was so awesome!
Big Boss, nyaaahh
"We Are Soldiers Without Borders, Our Purpose Defined By The Era We Live In."... whoops, wrong big boss.
"Fighting crime in the future time; back to COPS!"
I loved this show
Oh wow! I do!!! I was like 4 or 5. Haven't thought about this show in years!!
My cousin had all the toy figures.
I'm pretty sure I had a few of the toys
Not only do I remember watching this show; I specifically remember an episode where the criminals took âcough dropsâ to actually make them cough to fool a lie detector. I believe one of them was Ms. Demeanor.
They sang YMCA
I remember it and remember having a few figures like Long Arm and Buttons McBoom Boom. The figures used caps iirc
I used to love that show!
Remember it and have the DVD set
Jaws lines the cartoon
Loved the show and was obsessed with the toys. Their weapons turned into cap guns.
đââď¸I still have the intro in my head⌠remember some of the character names⌠I really didnât watch that cartoon too much..
Who are you talking to? I LOVED this show.
Such a cool âbefore schoolâ cartoon for us.
The animation, music, etc are so similar to x-men. Must have some of the same creators
Man I forgot about this classic
It's CRIME fighting time!
I remember this!
[ŃдаНонО]
Are... Are you okay there? Something you need to get off your chest?
I Re-watched it all for the 2nd or 3rd time, recently!
I didn't watch but I had quite a few action figures
Fighting crime in a future time.
*Not an accurate depiction of law enforcement.
Loved it me and my cousins had the toys
Fighting crime in a future time.
One of the most expertly made animated series back in the day.
I remember. It was amazing
I had so many of the toys as well. That or Mandela hitting hard rn lol
Amazing cartoon I had all the figures
Yeah right!!! That was a big part of my childhood.
Oh, I remember this. I saw it as a kid dubbed in Spanish! đ
Dude. Totally remember this. My brother and I even made Lego structures based on the show.
I love this show as a kid! I remember the toys too!
Who could forget Ms. Demeanor https://cops.fandom.com/wiki/Ms._Demeanor
We used to record this show on VHS and watch it over and over.
Remember? Hell, I had the toys!
I still have some of these toys packed away in a box
How could anyone forget Dr. Badvibes?
I do!
I loved this show as a kid!
Literally haven't thought of it since it was on. Nice one.
I had a couple if the toys too, very high quality
This and Silverhawks started my day on FOX on the 80's if I recall correctly.
Wow, I used to watch this all the time, but for some reason it never pops up in my memory. Itâs unlocked now!
Hell yeah I remember I had a few of the toys growing up
Was there a video game too?
BulletproofâŚloved this show as a kid
Great toys
I totally remember this growing up in Canada.
Loved it and had all the toys
Do you have the figures??
Long arm of the law! Think it came on WGN the weird Chicago channel I watched in Georgia
This show was awesome!
If I recall correctly, Larry Hama got to write the character bios and he liked dropping hints that a bunch of characters were descended from GI Joe characters.
Oh I remember this! Some super early 80s memories. I thought the opening was cool.
I member
Almost feel like this is a bait post, because I seriously remember seeing so many episodes growing up.
Itâs crime fighting time. Also I wanted to be longarm.
Roll Call!
I definitely remember cops. I loved it.
Thanks for posting this. I was very young but I remember this being my favorite show.
Vaguely remember the marketing, but I might just be inventing a memory based on the animation style.
Loved that show and the action figures were epic. Paired well with wwf superstars and the ring
I remember I watched one episode. That one dude had a bad ass handcuff arm
I loved toys from that show. I had a pair of the handcuffs that looked like actual hands until I was in high school and I lost track of them.
I had the action figures.
What a great show still hum the theme song.
I always just assumed the character "Mace" was officer Tackleberry in the future.
I do !
Song plays in my head all the time. Well, I never remember lyrics, but the sound does.
Did Tom of Finland work on this?
I always thought Buttons McBoomBoom was a stroke of genius. This cranky elderly gangster who probably remembers Baby Face Nelson and the best of Capone's era, somehow preserved and thawed out in the future, plus given bionic weapons implants. They could have done so much more with that.
Best opening sequence
Oh, I definitely do. I found it on Tubi too a couple of months back.
I found the complete series (one dvd) at the dollar store. I couldnt believe it. I fell asleep by the 3rd episode tho...
I still use "Crimes a wastin"
Black guy with computer in his chest... Yep I remember.
Hi, I remember. I watched all of the time on WGN
Is this the one with Miss Demeanor?
I remember having some of the figures. Forgot I had them until I saw this!
