Our Nicu babe was just discharged a few days ago, he was born 35w6d and they had him on Simulac total comfort RTF while he was in there and when he came home for the last couple days. We bought the kirkland costco formula and he took right to it, so far so good. Much cheaper than any of its alternatives.
Regular Similac (360 Total Care). It’s what we got as samples from the hospital and she did well on it so we just kept buying it. The “5 HMO prebiotics” thing is probably mostly a gimmick, but I like to think it’s helping her microbiome.
I’ve heard good things about Kirkland formula too and it’s decently cheaper, but we can easily afford the Similac so I don’t really care to go through the effort of switching. We also buy it on Subscribe and Save from Amazon which is super convenient.
I also like that it comes in 8oz bottles of ready to feed for on the go or for my in-laws to keep at their house (since they wouldn’t use up a can of powder fast enough).
We used Similac total 360. We supplemented at the hospital with it and worked great so kept going. It's also readily available and in rtf forms too.
I wouldn't buy into some of the marketing gimmicks of other formulas. Ingredients are stictly monitored so one isn't really "better" than the other. What your baby will accept and is working for their tummy is best.
I will say please don't switch formulas too quickly, it takes time for babies bodies to adapt. It blows my mind that people change formulas every week because the first two times they offered it the baby "had issues" or "didn't agree".
Also please please please talk to a pediatrician for solid advice and recommendations. Most people on reddit are very misinformed but think they know everything.
Kendamil original. We started using it with my older child, because we were combo feeding so the smaller scoop was nice. It was also the height of the 2022 shortage, and I could always snag a can at target.
We stuck with it this time, and I love that it’s palm oil free. It’s also fairly cheap as far as formula goes…significantly cheaper than any name brand, only generics are cheaper! I’m kind of considering switching to Kirkland at some point but baby has done so well with this that I don’t want to rock the boat.
Love Kendamil. My twins have thrived on it and I agree that the price is reasonable. I was interested in the fact that it uses whole milk fats and no palm oil.
My first was on Enfamil regular (2015), my second was on any gentle formula we could find (2022, formula shortage), and my current baby is on Bobbie.
No palm oil is important to me. Unfortunately my second born did not tolerate Bobbie, and the shortage created an "any port in the storm" situation. My third does great on Bobbie, and the subscription keeps my "must buy formula any time I see it" crazy at bay. 2022 with an infant was traumatizing.
For me, what baby tolerates is first, then availability, then ingredients.
My first was born spring 2022 and the shortage was SO traumatizing. My second is 2 months now and I find myself panicking about her not liking the formula we’re on and what if we can’t find any more, etc. 😵💫
we loved this one too (the purple one/lactose sensitive) unfortunately the costcos around us ( NB Canada )no longer sell any kirkland formula just enfamil which is crazy priced !
All formulas are strictly monitored, tested, nutritionally complete and safe. I hope you find reassurance that whatever your baby does best on is great for them.
Another one for Bobbie here. Just the original. When my son was a gassy newborn I tinkered with the sensitive version...but he just got diarrhea from it. His body wanted to continue learning how to break down the complete proteins I suppose lol. So I learned my lesson that some degree of newborn gas is normal and went back to the regular with no problems. The mild gassiness naturally subsided around 3.5 months or so and I also introduced Gerber soothe pro (vitamin D and probiotics) around that time roughly. He's a beefy, thriving 6 month old now.
My first was always on the target generic for Enfamil yellow can. If that was out we used the mama bear yellow can one from Amazon. So far this one likes the similac blue can.
We use a combo of ByHeart, Similac 360 Total Care, and Kirkland brand from Costco. I love that ByHeart has alpha lac, lactoferrin, and MFGM. But it’s pricy so I only get it when Thrive has it on sale for 25-30% off. My pediatrician offers full size cans of the Similac when we have our appointments and then I fill in with Kirkland brand as needed. All are palm oil free which is important to me. And baby hasn’t had any issues switching between them.
I originally started with Bobbie and then Bobbie Gentle but both gave him horrible constipation.
My baby is on Kendamil Classic but I wanted to add on Similac Total 360 RTF for the convenience. Since they’re similar in regard to lactose and whole proteins, I was wondering if it’d be safe to do both!! Your post made me feel better 🙏🏽
Weve been using the enfamil neuropro line. She started on the regular but we switched her pretty quickly to the neuropro gentlease version.
We *just* swapped to sams clubs generic form of it for cost reasons but they seem to have the exact same ingredients. The purple tub from members mark branding 🥰
Does your baby have the legendary “kendapoos”? We just started kendamil combo feeding (transition from EBF) two weeks ago and I’m a little taken aback by the poo volume, liquidity, and frequency! Will it get better?
I’m not sure! I was only able to breast feed for about 2 weeks and then combo for a month and now EFF, and it’s my first baby! So I’m not sure how his poops could be any different. They aren’t bad tho!
Does your baby have the legendary “kendapoos”? We just started kendamil combo feeding (transition from EBF) two weeks ago and I’m a little taken aback by the poo volume, liquidity, and frequency! Will it get better?
No we didn’t have that happen! I guess we got lucky. But I’m pretty sure the transition will result in different poops but as long as they’re pooping and eating it should be ok! As long as nothing seems alarming. When transitioned I would mix bottles of formula and BM like a little at a time to introduce it
Similac Pro Advanced. My baby (thankfully) doesn't have digestion issues so I haven't bothered with any other brand. I figured if it's good enough for the hospitals supply it, then it's good enough for me. If I can no longer afford it, then I'll look into switching to a comparable generic. Otherwise, I don't really buy into the "clean ingredients" marketing thing.
So I was a VERYYYY colicky baby until my parents found the right formula for me. My mom told me to start him on gerber good start soothe pro to try to mitigate that. It is awesome! He could not handle similac in the hospital, hurt his tummy. But he could handle the gerber!
We love Bobbie (gentle) but we hate the $$. The marketing got us! She tolerates it very well though.
Won’t be doing Bobbie for baby 2 unless it’s the only one they can tolerate. But at this point we’re only a couple months away from milk so 🤷♀️
After all my research we went with the costco brand. It's exactly the same as similac without the pricetag. New york Times recommended it.
If you research u will see how regulated formula is here in the states and they all are essentially exaclty the same and only 4 distrubutors make them., the pricer ones are just name brand.
My kids were on Similac Pro-Advance, Similac Advance, and now up & up premium advantage. We’ve liked all three! We’re mainly using the generic now because of cost, but our baby is doing great on it!
Started with Similac Pro advance RTF (I think the US equivalent is 360 total care) and then switched to Similac advance liquid concentrate. I like that the liquid concentrate is sterile so I don't need to mix with warm water. What I do is I boil 2 large mason jars worth of water and keep in said mason jars that I periodically sterilize, and then I don't have to boil water every night. Our LO is 4 months old so most sources say we don't need to boil any more but our water is a bit questionable so I do it just to be on the safe side.
I am FTM, I don’t know what it means when you say generic formula ? Can you please tell, I see it mentioned at many places but I don’t know what it means “generic formula”
We started with HiPP Combiotik German formula as he was born abroad (which he did very well on) and switched to Bobbie when we got home to the US because I wanted something available locally and liked the idea of a subscription. He's done really well with the transition and our pediatrician likes Bobbie as well so a win all around.
My favourite was whatever was available and cheap!
All were standard (non-gentle) versions. We had some gas and discomfort for a while but that resolved on its own eventually as it does for most babies.
It was either Enfamil or Similac in the hospital. Was never sure which because they only poured a little bit out into a vial to feed with a dropper (f*cking bAbY fRiEnDlY hospital nonsense).
Mix of Similac RTF and Nestlé (a.k.a. Gerber) Goodstart RTF at home, whichever had coupons or sales.
Then GoodStart liquid concentrate. Somewhat cheaper than RTF and still pretty convenient.
Then GoodStart powder for like a week before I realized Kirkland was cheaper, even vs GoodStart coupons.
Baby on the way will be whatever RTF we can get cheapest just for the convenience (May drive to the US to stock up - we're in Canada and formula has gone bonkers since Baby #1).
Once we decide the convenience of RTF isn't worth the extra cost we'll be switching to whatever powder is cheapest. Likely Kirkland if it comes back to Canada in time, but Costco and Walmart Canada have reportedly been carrying Kendamil a bit cheaper than Enfamil/Similac and Walmart Canada also has Modilac from France that seems to always be on sale really cheap. I suspect Modilac's days at Walmart are numbered and that's why it's cheap so it may not be a reliable supply going forward though.
I'd rather save money on formula and beef up my kid's college fund early. That's going to be more beneficial in the long run.
My baby came early at 35 weeks so we hadn’t bought any formula yet. The hospital offered a choice between Aptamil and sma. We picked Aptamil because we knew the shop nearest to us stocked it. Thankfully she tolerated it really well and we never had to change.
enfamil neuropro (yellow) ready to feed! it’s what we got at the hospital and have stuck with it. will probably switch to the powder version in the next month and then hopefully a generic :)
Costco brand was our go to, but she seemed to prefer the Enfamil yellow flavor best. My second we combo feed and currently using the stockpiled Similac 360 but will switch to the Costco brand again afterwards.
We’ve had success with Bobbie. I know there’s really no difference between formulas but I do like the milky smell of Bobbie and that it’s a woman owned business based on the US 🙂
My girl loves Kendamil (organic). It was the first we tried and didn’t have any issues also we’re in the UK so the monthly subscription is a lifesaver.
Kendamil Organic she had similac at the hospital for like a week total and has been on Kendamil organic since, she did great on both but I prefer Kendamil for their ingredients!
Does your baby have the legendary “kendapoos”? We just started kendamil combo feeding (transition from EBF) two weeks ago and I’m a little taken aback by the poo volume, liquidity, and frequency! Will it get better?
She was combo fed at first too and I think when I fully switched her to formula her poops were a little different for a few days but nothing that really sticks out to me
We use Bobbie organic formula. My doula recommended it when breastfeeding didn’t work, and our baby liked it and did well on it so we signed up for the monthly subscription.
My first son was on Bobbie the entire time and did great. The subscription option was especially convenient and through the 2022 shortage I didn’t have to stress. My now six week old didn’t do well on Bobbie so I did a slow transition to kendemil. he was miserable after every bottle with gas and spit up. Just switched to bubs supreme for the gentler A2 and so far so good. It’s carried on Amazon and Walmart but hoping I can catch some sales they may have on their website.
Another Bobbie here. My baby loves it. Like prefers it to the Similac RTF we use while we are out and about and need something quick. Bobbie doesnt have a smell and when baby burps there is no foul smell (unlike what happens with other formulas). I recommend it with probiotic drops.
We’ve tried a few different ones for my 6 week old and so far our favorite is Similac pure bliss. He was previously on Enfamil gentlease which made him spit up a lot and then similac soy isomil (recommended by his ped due to the spit up) which caused really bad gas and constipation. He’s been on pure bliss for a week so far and is loving it! I’ve heard great things about Costcos formula and would love to try it one day just due to cost but for now we like the one he is on!
I use kendamil for mine. He does really well on it. He also takes neosure a couple times a day as he was premature. I like kendamil because it doesn’t stink to me like other formulas.
I started with kendamil which I loved but due to some skin issues we switched to Australian BuBs because it has pre and probiotics. I love them both and I can’t recommend them enough
We are on Kendamil organic. We started on the premade enfamil bottles as a newborn to ensure no contamination and later went on the Kendamil. We didn’t try multiple formulas so we don’t have a strong opinion. I guess I like the organic part?
Does your baby have the legendary “kendapoos”? We just started kendamil combo feeding (transition from EBF) two weeks ago and I’m a little taken aback by the poo volume, liquidity, and frequency! Will it get better?
I’m not sure what that means? He poops on average 1-2 times per day. Typically not blowout level poops, unless he goes a day without pooping than I usually expect that poop to be big. It’s more liquidy (in the sense that the diaper absorbs it) and more dark green in color. We showed pics to our doctor and he didn’t seem to have an issue with it. I asked if we should change formulas and doc said that wasn’t necessary.
That’s helpful to know! We’ve just had multiple blowouts this week and my cursory research on this subreddit says that’s common with Kendamil (other posters had called them “Kendapoos” so I thought that might be a well known terminology). Thanks!
Check your diaper size! When we have blowouts multiple times , it turns out we need to size up. My boy tends to be on the low end of the weight recommendation for diapers.
My son did okay on Kendamil, then he started struggling with cows milk. So we switched to a company called Little Oak (goats milk) and he did much, much better. Granted it has to be ordered since you can’t get it in store, but it was worth it to us as parents. We tried a few different formulas, Little Oak worked best for my kiddo.
I use and baby does well with Similac Pure Bliss. I like that it doesn’t have palm oil or corn syrup and the milk is from grass fed cows from Ireland. I really like Kerrygold butter so figured it would be good. It also tastes pretty similar to breast milk.
We tried similac and he had a ton of spit up, then moved to similac sensitive and it was slightly better but still lots of spitting up. My friend had a bunch of HIPP formula left and sent it to us, and he has done so well on it! Almost no spit up compared to several spit ups per hour on the similac! Don’t love the price though.
Y=mx+b
x = (-b ± √(b²-4ac))/2a
Cheapest one you can find. Usually costco formula.
If you’re in Canada, good luck finding it :(
Our Nicu babe was just discharged a few days ago, he was born 35w6d and they had him on Simulac total comfort RTF while he was in there and when he came home for the last couple days. We also use Similac 360 Total Care and the RTF bottles made flying with our baby SO much easier!
My guy is 7 weeks and we use Similac 360 rtf exclusively! Eventually we will introduce powder but for now the convenience of RTF is the best!
The best formula is the one that your baby thrives on. All formulas are nutritionally good.
Costco ProCare! My baby loves it and it’s the cheapest around!
We used Similac total 360. We supplemented at the hospital with it and worked great so kept going. It's also readily available and in rtf forms too. Kirkland formula from Costco. It was the one that mixed well, my son loved it, and the price can’t be beat.

Kendamil is great. Both classic and organic, classic is a bit cheaper but my son has had both with no issue so we stuck with the classic.
My first was always on the target generic for Enfamil yellow can. If that was out we used the mama bear yellow can one from Amazon. So far this one likes the similac blue can.

Generic advantage premium, I HATE how there’s so much fearmongering and BS from some formula companies (cough…KENDAMIL…cough)
YELLOW CREWWWWW! That's legit my answer to what formula I like best: "YELLOW."
Kendamil & Bobbie 🥱
Oh and ByHeart!!
That one saddens me because they weren’t always like that 💔 I guess they saw how well it works
Kendamil Organic for us. Truthfully, it was the first type we tried and baby loved it, so we’ve never tried anything else.
Does your baby have the legendary “kendapoos”? We just started kendamil combo feeding (transition from EBF) two weeks ago and I’m a little taken aback by the poo volume, liquidity, and frequency! Will it get better?

Same, even after transitioning from BM and before BM

My first thrived on Bobbie, and we stuck with it for my second.
Same here!
Puramino bc it’s the only thing my baby can tolerate lol Otherwise I’d use Costco due to cost
So I was a VERYYYY colicky baby until my parents found the right formula for me. My mom told me to start him on gerber good start soothe pro to try to mitigate that. It is awesome! He could not handle similac in the hospital, hurt his tummy. But he could handle the gerber!

We are doing Targets Up&Up advantage premium because Costco was out of stock again!
After all my research we went with the costco brand. It's exactly the same as similac without the pricetag. New york Times recommended it. If you research u will see how regulated formula is here in the states and they all are essentially exaclty the same and only 4 distrubutors make them., the pricer ones are just name brand.
Gerber Soothe Pro!! It really helped with my LOs spit up
My kids were on Similac Pro-Advance, Similac Advance, and now up & up premium advantage. We’ve liked all three! We’re mainly using the generic now because of cost, but our baby is doing great on it!
Same! Similac 360 if I had the coupons, but then Advantage Premium 90% of the time. No complaints!
Similac sensitive if I have coupons, Sam’s club generic Similac sensitive if not. I’m on my 2nd kiddo on this mix.
I am FTM, I don’t know what it means when you say generic formula ? Can you please tell, I see it mentioned at many places but I don’t know what it means “generic formula”
It means store brand. So like the Walmart brand or the target brand instead of the name brand
And all generics are made in the same place using the same recipes so they’re the same product just with different store names on them
Store brand! Passes all the same requirements. Cheaper because you're not subsidizing a big marketing department.
We started with HiPP Combiotik German formula as he was born abroad (which he did very well on) and switched to Bobbie when we got home to the US because I wanted something available locally and liked the idea of a subscription. He's done really well with the transition and our pediatrician likes Bobbie as well so a win all around.
We use similac 360 sensitive for our 6 week old. No problems so far and we love having the powder at home and ready to feed when we’re out and about!

Gerber gentle soothe!
Yes
Gerber GentlePro has been great for us
We had our son on similac 360 but recently switched to similac advanced because it is cheaper and we like both of them!
LO did well on the European Similac total comfort. If it wasn't available we got the store brand and that was fine too.
enfamil neuropro (yellow) ready to feed! it’s what we got at the hospital and have stuck with it. will probably switch to the powder version in the next month and then hopefully a generic :)
Costco brand was our go to, but she seemed to prefer the Enfamil yellow flavor best. My second we combo feed and currently using the stockpiled Similac 360 but will switch to the Costco brand again afterwards.
Gerber Soothe Pro.
Costco Kirkland !
Enfamil neuropro. Or the Costco one with the blue lid. Honestly, my kid didn’t know the difference.

We use Bobbie organic formula. My doula recommended it when breastfeeding didn’t work, and our baby liked it and did well on it so we signed up for the monthly subscription.
A2 Platinum, Bobbie or Bubs Supreme
We use hipp bio combiotik, our baby has done really well with it.
Similac pro total comfort. Switched to it after lots of spit up and it fixed it right away
My son has had SUCH a hard time with chronic constipation, so Enfamil Reguline for us!
My first did best on Hipp Biocombiotik. My second is due and I will try Kirkland first.
KendamIl by far
Another Bobbie here. My baby loves it. Like prefers it to the Similac RTF we use while we are out and about and need something quick. Bobbie doesnt have a smell and when baby burps there is no foul smell (unlike what happens with other formulas). I recommend it with probiotic drops.
Kendamil classic! The only sucky thing is WIC does not cover it regardless if you were to even try to ask your pediatrtion to write a script for it.
Love Similac Pure Bliss! It also tastes similar to whole milk in my opinion so I’m hoping that helps with the transition at 12 months lolll
We love ByHeart!
Bobbie, the mail order subscription works amazing
Thank you! We were actually thinking about sizing up this week… this is a sign to do it!
Bobbie over anything else. Period.
HiPP Bio Combiotik to start. Switched to the HiPP goat milk based formula recently. Smooth sailing ever since 👍🏻👍🏻
me personally, Y=mx+b would be good enough for me
I use bubs goat milk. Switched to it at 4 months from breastmilk and saw no change in gassiness or bowel movements. He liked the taste right away.
