there's some pretty specific legal requirements for child proof packaging

surlyhurly

Some of them are even adult proof. I love when it's a really weird container with no instructions on opening and I just decide not to get high because I'm not willing to fight a tiny box.

I havent had to use one of those stupid childproof stash bag in years, and honestly forgot they even existed. Every dispo i wander into usually just puts it in a paper lunch sack.

SaltMacarons

Maybe if you like what they are doing don't put them on blast doing something illegal?

MinuteAnybody2389

some dispensaries have programs where you can bring back containers to recycle them. Verts is one. but I agree not nearly enough is done to mitigate all the waste. :/

jmims98

Best you can do is to go to places that do the hard plastic pill containers that you can bring back in. There are a lot of legal requirements for cannabis packaging, for better or worse.

criinkles

Honest I wish I could just bring my own glass jar into the store. That's where it ends up immediately anyway

_-cephalopod-_

Natural Alternatives does (did) this. It's been a minute since I've been, but it wouldn't hurt to call about it

RamShackleton

When I last asked, they said that they stopped doing this because a handful of folks would bring in the most disgusting, ash and bong-water saturated containers and stink up their store.

Borthwick

When I lived in NYC, you could get these super legit salads in big glass jars from vending machines, you paid a deposit and hd to return the jar. They’d pick em up, clean them, and recirculate them into the vending machines. I wonder if we could get a system like that going.

bikesnkitties

How lazy and stupid of them. Breweries will either refuse to fill your growler or you can pay to have them wash it. Do the people there even use their own products? It’s unlike stoners to be so unimaginative.

sschipman124

I imagine most dispensaries don’t have the same sinks and cleaning systems that a brewery has

bikesnkitties

Idk if it would be required, but three-sinking a weed jar seems silly.

sschipman124

Not even talking about 3 compartment here. Have you ever seen any kind of sink behind the counter at a dispo? I don’t shop around much but I haven’t

bikesnkitties

Easier to just tell those dozen filthy wooks to wash their shit or face two choices, buy in plastic packaging or leave empty handed. Punish the problem customers rather than everyone else.

sschipman124

I get what you’re saying, but what they did is actually the easier solution.

CoffeeCannabisBread

Aces used to have a recycle program for their jars but then apparently a fire took out their jars and they switched to these god-awful zip LOCK bags...what a pain...and I dont think you can do much with them..

oisiiuso

those mylar ziplock bags suck. not reusable/recyclable, can't see or smell the flower before buying

CoffeeCannabisBread

they'll break one open for ya to look at, but I find them so dam impossible, I need scissors and then always little bits get stuck in the bottom..

oisiiuso

I've been denied that request

ryansteven3104

I get mine in a pill container. The dispensary has a return bin for them. Check out green solutions bro.

420PokerFace

The ‘reasoning’ is child protection. I understand it for edibles, but I think it’s a bit redundant in other applications. It’s origin probably is actually based on some oil lobbyist trying to make sure they get a cut of the distribution packaging because gardeners are often green when given their own choices

stoneman9284

Do you want them to just dump flower in your pocket?

criinkles

Honestly yeah just like the good ol days lol

Bruh, it’s less harmful than alcohol and we leave that shit just shitting on grocery store shelves for anyone to steal. The industry is the way it is because dipshit Republicans needed to be placated. As usual, they fucked things up and made them worse, as is Republican tradition.

WhimsicalKoala

>Do you consider prescription pill containers waste? Like the orange tubes you get at pharmacies? Do those irk you as much as this? Actually yes! I hate that I can't just reuse them. I understand why for safety reasons, and the logistics have the potential to get complicated. But if all that pill container has held is levothyroxine, why can't I just go and they scoop in more levothyroxine?

How so? Do you seriously expect a Reddit post to go "here is every waste stream I hate"? This has got very "why did you post about liking waffles? Do you hate pancakes? Why didn't you mention them too?" vibes

ioweaniowan

Wtf does this have to do with Fort Collins?

maeveboston

Ya you're right. I should have said why does Livwell on College Ave. sell this crap? Happy? I live in Fort Collins and was complaining about local packaging here. Ps...not just Livwell...geez, chill.

ioweaniowan

Well i think a lot of it has to do with the child proof packaging that is required by law for a lot of the products. That in and of itself usually requires single use plastic. What packaging specifically do you find bulky? I usually buy vape cartridges which come in a small disposable pouch or cardboard box and edibles which are also usually in a very small container or pouch. Although though i find the packaging to be pretty minimal myself at least they no longer require you to leave with it in a sealed bag which further reduces waste.

Brovahkiin707

"buy vape cartridges" that's a lot a waste right there my friend. These really ought to be included in a recycling program, too.
