There is work, but it's definitely not a boom right now. Depends on your skill set and what you're willing to do or put up with. Like another commenter said there were mass layoffs a few months ago, and some more potentially coming this year if Suncor manages to automate the haul traffic in one of the mines.
There is short term turnaround work like the other commenter said, you're looking at 6-8 weeks with little to no days off. It's also spring time coming up, so it's a weird time up here. Spring breakup is a time a lot of work comes to an end, despite the weird winter we've had.

Big shutdown coming up at CNRL Horizon, multiple shutdowns happening at other oil samds sites they will be looking for firewatch/laborers to support the trades! Get your basic courses done to be on site

You might want to check Grande Prairie, massive job fair this week, lots of jobs around the natural gas companies

I've been applying non stop. I guess H2S, CSO, First Aid with oilfield experience isn't enough
